Moving Multiple Folders

Is it possible to move multiple folders at once. I can't seem to do it, and it's tedious moving one at a time.

This does appear to be he case. One can select more than one FOlder, but then on a Drag & Drop LR, only does the first select. I would conjecture that this may be because LR has to manipulate the actuall folders remotely, so this is to prevent confusion or mistakes. (LR not knowing if you meant to select more than one or not.)
Since Folders and there relationship to actual Folders/Directories are relatively new to LR, it maybe that they are keeping things simple for now. Not saying this will deffinitely come (I don't know) but maybe as the app matures a feature like this will be added.

  • Moving multiple folders in LR3

It seems like it's still not possible to move more than one folder at a time in LR3. I can't believe this hasn't been fixed - isn't this a normal, regular thing to do?
I import all my photos into date subdirectories of a folder called import. When I finally get round to keywording them and copying them to DVD, I then move the folder into the appropriate point in my pictures hierarchy e.g. portraits get moved under the portrait folder, Yorkshire pictures go under the yorkshire folder etc. If I have a number of folders that I want to move to the same folder I have to move them one at a time. Even if I select more than one, it only actually moves one. It's a right pain.
Perhaps there's a better way to organise my workflow to get round this, but I don't understand why it is so difficult.

But LR is able to remove photos from your catalog, if they're not existant in the folder anymore.
Removing folders from LR that do not exist anymore, is not exactly a problem.   In fact, I want to LR to do that.
I'm not talking about removing folders, but photos !!
I think the opposite, synchronize is the safe thing to do as it cannot do anything to your files that has not already been done outside of LR . All synchronize does is update LR. It does not change anything, that hasn't already been changed.
The only time when it could be an issue is when you do not save to xmp out of LR and also alter files in Bridge as that is simply asking for trouble. But that way of working is wrong, not the syncing itself.
Not sure what you think syncing does, that makes it so dangerous.
OK, I'll give you a few scenarios where synchronize can do harm:
    A) Without writing XMP:
Move or rename an photo and synch: All edits (development and metadata) are lost
Move a folder within a master folder and synch: All edits (development and metadata) are lost
    B) With writing XMP:
Move or rename a photo and synch: Collection-, Flag-, Stack-Info, VCs are lost
Move a folder within Master and synch: ditto
Additionally, writing XMPs automatically is not known to be the most reliable function in LR, one reason for this being it writing asynchronously. I've had several instances where a status of "Metadata changed" was reported, although I have "Automatically write changes into XMP" set to yes.
I'm not saying that synchronize is a bad option as it stands, but you need to exactly know what you're doing if you want to avoid trouble. For that reason I think it's not a good general advice in a forum like this, where, among advanced users, also novices read what others recommend. 90% of all complaints I read in forums like this are about losing the connection to the folders/photos, and quite some of them losing their edits in the course of trying to solve the issue (e.g. re-import). What "Synchronize Folder" does on a renamed or moved image is nothing else than delete from catalog and re-import, and, as Paige uses to say all the time, "Don't ever re-import.", and rightly so!
MHO: If you don't want to stick with the organizational means that LR offers (keywords, collections, color-labels, ratings, ....) after you've originally imported (nothing against folder assignment and file renaming upon first import!), I think as a general rule one should stick with moving stuff around from within LR.

  • Would like to be able to select and move multiple folders in one operation.

Unless I'm missing something really simple here, there doesn't seem to be any easy way of selecting and moving multiple folders at once.
Here's a little example of a simple task I want to do. I presently have a multitude of folders each seperated by the day the photo was taken on. So in my case for a given year I might have maybe 50 folders or so. It's getting a little cluttered, so all I want to be able to do is to take all the folders for one given year and place them in a folder with that year's date. This should be a simple 30 second task, simply select the folders I want moved by either <CTRL> or <SHIFT> clicking them, and then dragging and dropping them into the new folder.
Right now, the only way I've figured how to do this this is to drag and drop each folder one by one, never mind that this is a slow process in itself, but to add to the slowness, whenever I try to drag and drop more than one folder consecutively, I get a message saying ... "Can not move a folder while another move operation is in progress...blah blah". Not that I want this to be the fix, but haven't they heard of queuing?
I've seen people on the net suggest that for this type of task, you should simply move the folders in Windows first and then locate them in Lightroom. Again, unless I'm missing something very simple here, there doesn't seem to be a way to locate multiple missing folders at once. If I have to manually locate each missing folder one by one, then I'd rather just do the drag and drop thing as this would actually be faster.
I've also tried moving the folders from within Windows first and then using the "Synchronize folder" option, yeah sure this works, but I lose any changes that I've done in Develop module. Not what I'm looking for.

Daniel is right. It´s really strange that I can´t move several folders in one move! When I need more space on my laptop I move a group of folders (one folder for every photosession) to an archive. Therefore I really would like to move them in one click, not "baby-sitting" the move of each folder.

  • Please add the ability to add multiple folders to the assets folder in order to better organize large numbers of files.

Please add the ability to add multiple folders to the assets folder in order to better organize large numbers of files.

    Hello KDLadage
Thank you for your recommendation. I understand the challenges of managing large numbers of files on the My Files page. I also understand the need to preserve project files.
Perhaps a compromise would be to create an Archive tab under My Files. Previous versions and retired project files could then be automatically moved into this holding area when a new version is published, thus preserving the files in a separate area that is still accessible to the author.
I will submit this suggestion to our product management team to consider as a future enhancement.

  • Batch Processing Multiple Folders Question...

    Hi,
I process multiple folders full of images using the "Include All SubFolders" option under File->Automate-Batch.
It works flawlessly when all the folders I need to process are under the same folder. Example:
    /images/folder_a
    /images/folder_b
    /images/folder_c
I am wondering if there is a way to nominate multiple folders that are NOT all in the same folder (so I can fire off a batch process over night).
    Example:
    /images/folder_a
    /temp/folder_b
    /photos/folder_c
Is there any way to use my action as a Batch Process for these at the same time (without moving the images, or folders)?
(PS CS3 10.0.1, OSX 10.5.5, JS for Scripts)
    Thanks,
    Matt

What about folder actions: you should need a script that runs a PS action on all images in the current folder (and embedded subfolders) only. Then you should be able to use folder actions to launch the script, which runs the action.
Not like I've done this, but...
You might also look into automator. If you can build the action in PS (which it seems you can), either of these two features might help with the rest.

  • Help - moved itunes folders to external drive and now my itunes is totally

A few months ago, in order to free up space on my c drive, i had to purchase an external drive - everything i installed via itunes since that date has been on the hard drive and everything was fine.
Last night i needed more room on my C drive so i stupidly moved the remaining itunes folders from my C drive to my F drive - unfortunately, when i opened itunes it was blank.
i've tried a few things - including adding the folder from the F drive - and that retrieved about 80% of my music/videos and the last playlists i had - however, they were all missing songs - even if all the songs that should be included remained on my itunes
i began the tedious process of manually adding files back in but soon realized this doesn't help itunes consider this the same ipod as what's still on my actual ipod.
*What I'd like to do (if possible) is to wipe itunes clean and somehow restore everything on my ipod into itunes so that i retrieve not only the songs and videos but also the playlists that i've spent way too much time building. At this point i fear that the various components to my ipod are in too many files on my external drive to be easily restored another way (though if i'm wrong please let me know)*
sadly (as this story might suggest) I am borderline computer illiterate - I've read a few posts suggesting some sort of software online (something the apple help line also made an "off the record" remark about) - but I can't for the life of me figure out which i would use or how to do this without risking the contents of my existing ipod (which has the playlists and songs/video I want to reestablish).
*Can anyone possibly suggest how to best handle this and walk me through it in painstakingly basic and specific detail? I would be forever grateful.*
    Thanks

iTunes uses the iTunes Library files - in particular the iTunes Library.itl file - to keep track of where your song files are located as well as playlist and related information.
Most likely in moving your folders around iTunes has been confused to such an extent that it created a new Library file. With a bit of luck you might still be able to find the old file which would restore your old Library.
So the first thing you want to do is look around your computer and make a note of any iTunes Library.itl files you can find. Generally speaking you'll find them in the iTunes folders on your system and depending on how you've been moving the folders - i.e. whether you "cut" them or "copied" them - you may still find at least one one on your F: drive and some on your C: drive.
Having noted where they are you know want to check each of them out as described in this article in the Apple Knowledge Base. In following those instructions you want to select the Choose Library option and use the pop-up window that appears to zero in on the various .itl files you've located.
Remember that each Library file will show a different Library in iTunes - perhaps slightly different, perhaps completely different - and if the first one isn't what you're looking for you'll have to close iTunes and repeat the procedure by selecting one of the other .itl's.
    Post back for any clarification.

  • Shortcut to close multiple folders in List View

In the Finder, in list view, I have multiple folders open (using the triangle by the Folder name). I'd like to be able to close all the open folders at once. I know that holding Option while clicking the red Close button on a window will close multiple windows and I want to do something similar with the folders.
I'm sure I knew how to do this once but can't remember now.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Command-click or otherwise select all of them, and then push the left arrow key.

  • How can "multiple folders/files" be deleted in ONE PSEXEC COMMAND LINE

    I can delete remote folders/files via bat command with psexec (below) but;
It takes a little time because of the 9 different folders. Maybe, looping of txt file can be used for different folders.
So how we can delete multiple folders in ONE PSEXEC COMMAND LINE?
Here my working code but it does its job in 9 steps :(
    psexec \\%PC% cmd /c "for /d %%a in ("c:\Users\1*.*") do rd /s /q "%%a""

  • Multiple folders on a single MP3 cd

when I put a MP3 cd in my car stereo, it asks me which folder do you want to play? This leads me to believe that I can put multiple folders on one cd, and I was wondering the logistics of this. Can I simply burn one folder on the cd, pick another play list in itunes and click burn while leaving the same CD in my drive?

We don't support this yet but we are starting to look at what it would take to add this to the product.

  • Can I export multiple folders at the same time, keeping the album structure

I'm exporting all of my photos from 2010 so far. Is there a way to export multiple folders at the same time, while keeping the existing album structure? It seems that when I try it, iPhoto exports them all to the same folder.
I really don't want to do this one album at a time, and here's why -
I'd like to select all of the albums, then export, using the plugin, to WalMart so that I can order prints.

    Check out [iPhotoToDisk|http://www.iphototodisk.com/index.html]
I'd like to select all of the albums, then export, using the plugin, to WalMart so that I can order prints.
Why not upload to Walmart from iPhoto? Check out the first option here:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Exchange 2003 - 2010. Moving public folders one at a time

    Hi all,
I'm in the process of decomisioning our old Exchange 2003 server (long overdue after what has been a relativly smooth and trouble free transition to 2010). As the first step in the decomisioning process, I'm looking to move the public folders from the 2003
box to the 2010 box. From my understanding there are a couple of ways to achieve this (please correct me if I'm wrong). The first is to add the Exchange 2010 server as a new replication partner, allow for replication of the PFs to occur, and then remove the
2003 partner from the replication partnership. The other option is to use MoveAllReplicas.ps1.
I opted for the first option, but the problem I have is that the initial replication process started to generate a very large number of transaction logs on the Exchange 2010 server, to the point I was slightly conccerned I was going to run out of space on
the volume (our server is backed up nightly at which point the transaction logs are normally flushed).Whilst I know I could potentially increase the size of the volume or turn on cicular logging for the duration of the migration (neither of which is appealing
as it will involve down time), I was wondering if there was a way to move a smaller set of Public folders one at a time with a powershell command, or is it an all or nothing operation? My other option may be to replicate a small subset of folders everyday,
but that just a little painful as there are a large number of child folders with in the structure. Any other suggestions welcome!
    Many thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,
If your Public Folder Database is large, you can use tool like Exfolders or ESM to add replica folder by folder.

A while ago, I moved the mobilesync path so that it would stop trying to backup onto my C drive. However, since then I moved some folders around which I think is the source of my error. I can no longer backup my iphone It just tells me that the backup is corrupted. When i go to preferences, devices, and look under backups it is empty. How do I fix this?

    Howdy there mjspace1994,
It sounds like you are unable to backup your phone after moving the mobile sync folder from its default location. If moving it back manually does not resolve the issue, I would next use either of the following articles to remove iTunes from your computer and then re install it. The articles outline the proper order to remove them in, and step by step instructions:
Remove and Reinstall iTunes and other software components from Windows XP
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
