Moving Multiple Subtitles in DVDSP4

Hi Folks
Ive had a a job come in, a multi segment DVD. As is often the case someone wants a change and i've been asked to re-edit one of the sections into another. Normally of course this wouldn't be a problem. But for the fact that the original segment has subtitles which were manually entered into DVDSP.
Now the subtitles, which took the original maker 2 months to get round to doing are entirely in the wrong place; and what i'd ideally like to do is shift select the subs and drop them in their new location. Is this possible in DVDSP4 (Cant find it in the manual)
Failing that, does anyone know a good time code calculator?
I have another idea which involves having a laptop running FCP and moving an appropriate length slug up the timeline and reading the out points from that.
Please tell me DVDSP4 will let me group shift the subs!

www.truevision-video.de
download Subtitle TC-Converter
this is the piece of software that'll save your bacon although it is only in german!
all the save and don't save buttons pop up in the same place as in english...as long as you are familiar with other apps i'm sure you can work it out...that or find yourself a German friend.
copy and paste into text document if you only need to move specific subtitles and do a save as.
You can then re importthe txt file as an STL into DVDSP... i think....i have done it but can't exactly remember what the workflow was,

  • Moving Multiple Subtitles

    I have a ten minute educational video that I have manually created subtitles for in DVDSP4 (I realize there are better methods for creating subtitles, but I wanted to get this done as quickly as possible and I very rarely do subtitles).
    After placing all of the subtitles, I decided to trim one section of the video by a couple of seconds in FCP. I then reimported the footage into DVDSP. I was hoping to then select all of the subtitles after the edit point and move them to the left by the duration of the trim, but unfortunately I cant figure out how to move more than one subtitle at a time. Even if I select multiple subtitles, only the one that is clicked on gets moved. Even better would be to just hit the "minus" key, type the duration and hit return to move them, like you can with clips in FCP.
    Is there any way to move a range of subtitles, or do I have to move each of them one by one? (Im hoping Im just mising something as it would be incredibly stupid if this was the case)

    As Hal says Belle Nuit is supposed to be good. Played with the demo but never actually used it extensively. STLEdit would be your best bet but unfortunately the developer has stopped offering it for sale due to lack of interest.
    We use both STLEdit and on a PC we use Lemony which is very good for taking one subtitle format and changing to another, shifting timecodes, etc.
    Subtitle Workshop on the PC is supposed to be good. I believe soemone on the Tully DVDList (Bouke?) is about to release new subtitling tool.
    Most people who deal with subtitling a lot are usually supplied with some kind of ready prepared file from the film distributor or the like. We do quite a few Japanese movies and always get some kind of file sent with timecode references - of course the English often has to be corrected! (Bet their English is better than my Japanese however...)

  • Script for moving multiple subtitle clips in the works - EXAMPLES NEEDED!

    Hi everyone!
    One severe deficiency of DVD Studio Pro is the inability to move multiple subtitle clips back or forward in a track by an arbitrary offset.
    I ran into this problem while I was creating a DVD from an EyeTV recording of a DVB broadcast, the subtitles from which have to be extracted to a SON file and a bunch of .bmp images with a separate piece of software, ProjectX. For some reason, ProjectX messed up the subtitle timecodes, so I had to move the entire track forward by a fixed amount. Unable to do this inside DSP, and unable to find tools that would do this for SON files, I set out to code my own tool with Python.
    Currently, I have a very simplistic working version of the script, which I successfully used to shift the timecodes of the aforementioned SON file.
    This got me thinking: I can't be the only one who has faced this problem. So, in the spirit of giving something back to the community, I thought I'd try my hand at turning this little script into a versatile tool for timescaling several different subtitle formats.
    If possible, I would like to receive real-life examples of several different plaintext (no binary formats, thanks) subtitle formats from you guys, both those that DSP supports and those that it doesn't.
    For now the tool only shifts entire tracks and works on the command line, but who knows, maybe I'll create a GUI at some point and add the ability to shift specific subtitle clips instead of whole tracks - time permitting, of course.
    If you think you might have some juicy subtitles laying around, please reply or contact me directly by e-mail: elamaton (at) nic.fi. Don't worry, I won't redistribute anything you send me, it will only be used as test data.

    Sounds like a very good idea... but have you seen Subtitler:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26322
    Not to say you won't make a better version, and I'd be delighted if you did! Manipulating subs in DVDSP is not something I do any more - I use an external text editor for any job where more than a few subs are needed.
    The problem in DVDSP is that you cannot extract the subs directly, you have to export an track item description which has the subs and time code buried within the XML. You might find that PHP will give you a web based tool to extract the subs and time codes and write a text file, which you can then manipulate.
    In fact, wouldn't a web based tool be a good idea? People could upload the track description, it would export the subs and you could get it to adjust the timecodes and write a text file back in the correct format to import back in to DVDSP. Once the subs are in a text file it is a simple matter to manipulate them further...

  • Moving multiple subtitle clips

    I have not found out how to move multiple subtitle clips at a time on a track. I have tried to highlight multiple clips and then move them but then only one will move at time. Any help?

    Let me add a little more. I am putting together about 100 hours of footage with the subtitles displaying some data that will change every second. So lots and lots of subtitles. I'm importing them all as a .stl file and it creates a new clip for each segment of data (1 second). Is there another way to not have them divided up like that?
    Thanks.

  • Moving multiple queries from one category to another in QM

    Hi All,
    Is there is any way of moving multiple queries from one category to another in the query manager?
    Or is the only way of doing it by saving each one individually into a different category.
    Any ideas ?
    Regards,
    Rakesh N

    Hi Rakesh,
    The query manager has limited function compare with normal file management applications. Under current design, you have to do this one by one. You just need to make sure move the smaller amount of queries to large category. Category name can be changed easily.
    Thanks,

  • "manually manage music..." missing songs when moving multiple albums at once

    Since updating to iTunes 10.6.1.7, when adding songs to my iPhone (iPhone 4, iOS 5.1) it does not fully copy every track/song.
    I have it set to "manually manage music and videos" ...when I am moving multiple albums to the thing at once, the earlier albums only copy the songs started before I select the next album. Consequently, I find that I only have partial albums for almost everything. I suppose I could be patient and wait for each album to download before selecting another album, but this used to work before and took a lot less time. (I would drag multiple albums into my iPhone and it would queue up all of the tracks(songs) and correctly download asynchronously.)
    Is this a known bug or is there something I am doing wrong? (As always, I did some searching for answers but came up empty on this one...)
    Thanks in advance for your help!
    MikeY

    The order iTunes is showing the tracks can be changed. Select the album column heading to get tracks list in album order. Normally within an album the tracks will list in track order when viewing this way.

  • How to move multiple subtitle clips?

    Hi!
    I want to move multiple subtitle clips in the timeline. How can i do that? I want to select multiple subtitles and then drag them to left about 2 minutes. Just click+drag doesn't work. I didn't find help in the manual also...
    Waiting for the small tip.
    Timo

    Hi Timo
    As you have discovered you can't drag all the subs in the timeline - you can only drag one at a time... which is why you will find most people recommend creating your subtitles outside of DVD-SP and then importing them. If you have to adjust them you can then go back to this file created outside and adjust the in outs of the timecode.
    One way you could save the situation (I''m assuming you made the subs in DVD-SP) is to export an item description of the track then use a little utility called Subtitler
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26322
    This can extract those subtitles back out of the item description and can (I believe) adjust the timings as well and create a DVD-SP friendly STL file which you can re-import into SP... then if any others need tweaking you can go back to that external file adjust, re-import...
    I've only ever tested it to see if it coul indeed extract a sub from an item description so can'tr vouch for it's other abilities - we normally use Lemony or Subtitle Workshop on a PC to adjust subs
    Hope that's some help

  • Moving multiple objects in a Finder window

    Try a simple experiment in Tiger (10.4): in a Finder window with the icon view + snap to grid ON, select multiple grouped objects (e.g. 10-20) and move them to a different place in the same window.
    They will not stay grouped but be sometimes dispersed in a random way or even move to places belonging to different grids.
    Another experiment is to move a single object from one window into another one: this changes the grid of the second window from time to time.
    This is extremely annoying when you want to keep the icons ordered.
    This bug existed also in Panther.
    I'm convinced it will exist in the next Mac OS X release. Do you bet ?

    Hi DarkStar,
    In my case there are no other major application running when I see the moving multiple objects bug in the Finder. And (as for econupmac) the problem is intermittent.
    I've checked the bug again and realize that it appears mostly when I'm moving a group of objects belonging to different columns. Here is what I did:
    Create a folder with the 'Snap to grid' option ON and 'Icon size 16x16'. Set its View as Icon. Load this folder with 30 files and organize them into 3 groups of 10 files side by side. Enlarge the size of the folder to have plenty space by maneuver.
    Now select the 5 bottom files of the middle column and move them gently around, then release them. The 'Snap to grid' feature will work fine and the files will be shifted to the nearest grid position... except when the files will stay in the middle of nowhere (you might need to do it several times until it happens).
    THIS IS THE APPLE BUG.
    This bug is more easily seen when a group of objects belonging to 2 adjacent columns is moved. Check this on a nicely arranged folder : Select the 5 bottom files of the middle column and the 5 bottom files of the right column and move them slightly. I bet that they will not stick to the grid. This will create a second grid which corrupts the folder. The next time you'll move around objects in this folder you'll see how crazy the folder behaves.

  • Moving multiple symbols "breaks" motion tweens

    I'm working on a character rotation in Flash CS 5.5 that leads into a basic walk cycle using all motion tweens. The tutorial I'm following (which only uses classic tweens) says to grab all the upper body symbols with free transform and rotate them forward a little. This works fine with classic tweens, but with motion tweens, the parts pop strangely out of place and the more frames I try to move the upper body symbols on, the worse the symbols start randomly sliding around. You can see a simple before/after example posted below. Moving the profile view upper body symbols displaces the arms on the first frame.
    Is there any way to move multiple symbols without ruining them? Someone else described at length a problem like this on an old thread, but no one answered: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1084800
    I've tried taking all the upper body layers and sticking them in a symbol, but that won't work because the left hand will pass over the left leg instead of under due to layering.
    EDIT - Whatever change is made to the arms during the walk  changes the key frames at the beginning, but only if selected with other symbols. If I move the upper body parts down instead of rotating them, the first frame arms will be retroactively be moved down.

    If you are interested in getting decent results at some point youwill have to looke into the Bone-Tool or use a extension like DragonBones
    The reason why you are having "Displacement"-problems lies in the "Math" behind how AnimatorFactory (the system behind Motion Tweens) handles transformations different from Tweens (Its outright misleading to call them Tweens, and Adobe did a poor naming job).
    Right click one of the Motion tweens and chosy "copy as Actionscript 3.0" from the context menu then paste the code in any available textEditor and you will see sth like:
    import fl.motion.AnimatorFactory;
    import fl.motion.MotionBase;
    import fl.motion.Motion;
    import flash.filters.*;
    import flash.geom.Point;
    var __motion_Symbol1_9:MotionBase;
    if(__motion_Symbol1_9 == null) {
        __motion_Symbol1_9 = new Motion();
        __motion_Symbol1_9.duration = 24;
        // Call overrideTargetTransform to prevent the scale, skew,
        // or rotation values from being made relative to the target
        // object's original transform.
        // __motion_Symbol1_9.overrideTargetTransform();
        // The following calls to addPropertyArray assign data values
        // for each tweened property. There is one value in the Array
        // for every frame in the tween, or fewer if the last value
        // remains the same for the rest of the frames.
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("x", [0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("y", [0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("scaleX", [1.000000]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("scaleY", [1.000000]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("skewX", [0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("skewY", [0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("rotationConcat", [0,3.91304,7.82609,11.7391,15.6522,19.5652,23.4783,27.3913,31.3043,35.2174,39.1304,43.043 5,46.9565,50.8696,54.7826,58.6957,62.6087,66.5217,70.4348,74.3478,78.2609,82.1739,86.087,9 0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("blendMode", ["normal"]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("cacheAsBitmap", [false]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("opaqueBackground", [null]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("visible", [true]);
        // Create an AnimatorFactory instance, which will manage
        // targets for its corresponding Motion.
        var __animFactory_Symbol1_9:AnimatorFactory = new AnimatorFactory(__motion_Symbol1_9);
        __animFactory_Symbol1_9.transformationPoint = new Point(0.499943, 0.500000);
        // Call the addTarget function on the AnimatorFactory
        // instance to target a DisplayObject with this Motion.
        // The second parameter is the number of times the animation
        // will play - the default value of 0 means it will loop.
        // __animFactory_Symbol1_9.addTarget(<instance name goes here>, 0);
        // Call the addTarget function on the AnimatorFactory
        // instance to target a DisplayObject with this Motion.
        // The second parameter is the number of times the animation
        // will play - the default value of 0 means it will loop.
        // __animFactory_Symbol1_9.addTarget(<instance name goes here>, 0);
    This is only the code for simply rotating a rectangle over the duration of 24 frames.
    You notice 2 two problems right away: while having the registration point in the center, Flash distorts the values:
        __animFactory_Symbol1_9.transformationPoint = new Point(0.499943, 0.500000); //should be (0.5, 0.5)
    you can imagine that this "error" gets worse when inherited from nested symbol to nested symbol, it "exponentially" grows with each nesting, and it will soon reach a point were it gets visible.

  • Moving multiple images

    I'm using RoboHelp 7.02. I have several images that were
    imported into various help files at the top level. This really
    clutters up my Project Manager, so I set about the task of putting

    I was happy to discover that moving an image in Project

    As above, it is not possible.

  • Moving Multiple Objects in Pages

    I have a 20 page document with objects on some of the pages.  I want to add a page in the middle and move all the object forward to their right pages.  How can I move all of them at once.  In appleworks this was easy.  I could select and move them all.  In Pages, if I select them all, on multiple pages of the document, I cannot then move them all at once, but only 1 at a time.  Help.

    Hey Jerry,
    Thanks.  The first tip worked well.  The second, to add the page break or section break, moves all the word processing but not the graphics.  Thanks, Lance
    That's odd. I tested here before posting and it worked, everything below the break moved together, except for a slight offset due to a paragraph marker or something that displaced some text during the insertion. I'll have to check it again.

  • Moving multiple video images?

    Hello, I would like to know if there is an easier way to doing this. Moving things individually is a pain especially when there are 6 to 8 and they are off screen.
    Here is what I am trying to do: I need 6 or 7 videos all on one "page". This page needs to be moved around while they are playing. Think of a comic book page where each comic frame is a live action video. I need to be able to move around that page freely going to each video separate or zooming out to reveal multiple segments on the same page at once.
    Thank you for any help.

    I do have Motion but have never used it.
    All of the videos will be sitting in a specific location under a "frame" image with holes cut in it. If that makes sense. I just need to be able to move the "camera" around that page freely and for everything to stay in place.
    One more thing, I would need the videos to start and stop at specific times. Lets say I zoom in on one image, it will start playing then freeze as I drift off to another.

  • Moving Multiple Tracks

    Hey all. Is there a way to move multiple tracks at one time, so that everything stays together? For example, if I wanted to move a guitar track and a seperate vocal track, could I move both at the same time?

    I've been wondering about this as well. If you're familiar with Pro Tools, you can select multiple tracks by Shift-Clicking their names (i.e. Violins, Violas, Celli, Basses), and then drag those tracks vertically. I'm not talking about moving regions here. I would like to change the vertical order of tracks in the Arrange Window (and not by sorting). Is there a way to do this in LP?
