Moving music from another mp3 player

I have a different mp3 player with a large library of music acquired from various sources. I just received an ipod nano as a gift. Is there any way to transfer my music from my old player to the ipod? I paid good money for my library and I hate to lose it!

Welcome to the forums!
iTunes is the only way I know of to get songs into your new iPod. SO the trick is to get your old libraru into iTunes.
So you have to know what format they are in now. Maybe WMA or mp3. iTunes works well with mp3 and I think it can convert non-protected WMA as well so you have to find a way to get the files into a format that will work.
Once you have a method you can just drag the files into iTunes and it will do the rest.

  • Moving music from another mp3 player to an ipod?

Ok, I have a Creative Zen Touch MP3 player and have most of my music on it. I just recently bought an ipod as well and most of the music that is one the creative zen touch is not on my computer anymore so it was not synced to the ipod when i got itunes. Is there any way I can move the music that is the creative zen touch over to the ipod?

I don't know anything about Creative players, but I can make some general suggestions.
Do you have a way to transfer the music from the Creative Zen to your hard drive? If so, that would be the first step. What format is it in? mp3 is good. iTunes will convert unprotected wma so that works, too. Protected wma isn't going to work.
Then, if the files are something that iTunes can work with, just import the music into your iTunes library (File>Add to library).
Or, I missing some really big issue.

    carlitos3373,
You need to use iTunes to transfer music to your iPod. You can download the latest version here:

    Hope this helps,

  • Is it possible to transfer music from an MP3 Player directly without going through iTunes?

Is it possible to transfer music from an MP3 Player to an iPad-2 without going through iTunes?

    No.

  • Why cant I put my music from my mp3 player onto my comput

I recently got a new comp and I have no music on it because I thought I could get it off my mp3 player. Is this blocked intentionally or am I doing something wrong?
    thx for your help

You don't say what player you have. I recommend reading the FAQ post, especially the information about how to post.
MP3s can be transferred from the player to the PC with all players.
The tracks that come with the player cannot be transferred, as these are locked.
Locked WMA tracks can't be transferred either.

  • Moving music from windows media player

i swear ive done this before, but i cannot remember how i did it. how do i move .wma files from windows media player into itunes library? i cannot drag them over, i just get the circle w/ a slash. ive tried sync-ing them directly onto my nano from media player program & it lists them in the pop up window on my computer, but they are lsited no where in song titles on my actual nano for me to access. ive tried converying the format & it wont allow me. i know it can be done, i just cant figure out how. thank you.

First, find out where Media Player has stored the music files on your computer. It typically is in Documents and Settings\(Your Name)\My documents\My Music and then there should be a folder that has a name that resembles Media Player. If you pull up Tools>Options and click the "Rip Music" tab it will show you where you have your music stored. So then pull up this folder that it tells you to, then pull up the iTunes window as well, and then simply drag and drop the folders into your iTunes music library. iTunes will convert the songs automatically for you, sometimes this may take a while. For example, I have 3300 songs on my Hard Drive and it took the entire day for iTunes to convert all of the ones it needed to. So just be patient and you should be good to go.

  • Moving music from Windows Media Player to iTunes

    Hi
Apologies if this is repeating what others have asked many times in the past - I know what these forums can get like sometimes! I have had a look around though and couldn't find a definitive answer, so...
I have to date put all my music in Windows Media player on my PC. I am now going to buy an ipod so, obviously, I need my music in iTunes.
Is it simply a case of copying the folders from 'My Music' into the iTunes version of 'My Music'? If so, where is the iTunes version of 'My Music'..?!
    Thanks
    Percy

FIrst before I say anything else, As of now its only...6:30am here on the east coast USA (Which means its 3AM in California) so the event has not taken place yet. Apple is very secritive about what there doing, and anything you hear is rumor til apple comes out, says what there doing/announcing and makes it fact.
Now that said, there has been RUMORS (So far) apple MIGHT release some type of new nano and/or video ipod along with an announcement they have made deals with hollywood to start selling movies on there US store.
I just wanted to give you a heads up just incase you was buying today and the rumors turned out to be true. I would of utterly hated for you me or anyone to buy an ipod today, and then later in the afternoon, or tommorrow apple release a new ipod. If that happend to me... I would be Cursing up a storm (Southern slang meaning I would be REALLY UPSET LOL)
Theres alot of news about the event along with rumors that have be heard, just not confirmed by apple yet. One of them is here

  • HT1751 Accessing iTunes Music from another media player

If I drag the whole iTunes Music folder (from Windows PC) over to an external hard drive, can the songs be played by any other media player apart from iTunes?

All the songs in your iTunes library can be played by non-Apple players.  Just make sure your other player can handle all the formats that your music is in.
The only exception is any "Protected AAC" files, since they have DRM that prevents their use in non-Apple players.

  • How do I play and control music from my MP3 player through my

    Thanks in advance

    Tommyknocker,
How about just a simple minijack to minjack patch cable, from headphone out into the line-in on your soundard? The Soundcard's mixer could be used to set volume and then you still have control on the player, current song information listed in front of you, and can use the volume on the player when needed to mute / lower for different scenes in the game.

  • How to transfer all music in my Zen Micro to either my PC or another mp3 player....help ple

i have a creative micro zen with about 000 handpicked and some very hard to find songs on it...i don't really have trouble with the player itself, just the software and the continous problems seems like everyone is having with something... my question is this..........if i wanted to get another mp3 player as a backup in case this one crashes, then what does everyone think about one of the smaller ipods? what about their software and such? and, if i do decide to get an ipod, then how would i transfer all these 000 mp3 songs onto the new ipod? would there be an issue with the fact that they are not bought from itunes?? would it not be safe to do that? and if it is okay to do that,? how would i transfer the songs back onto my PC, as i have tried everything suggested on this board recently in trying to do that using Mediasource and it just won't work even after downloading all new plugins etc. if someone has an idea about this, please let me know step by step if possible about how i can get these songs that are valuable to me from my zen micro, to my computer, and then onto another mp3 and if ipod (nano for instance) is a wise choice or if there is another player in the same category that others have found they have waaaay less problems with and better support/service with it's?any help anyone gives would be greatly appreciated!? i appreciate all the suggestions to my other questions as well!?thanks, barb

for a new mp3 player, i would get this one, its awesome (and the one i would get if i had a choice instead of my microphoto that broke)... here's a link
http://reviews.cnet.com/Samsung_YP_T9_4GB_black/4505-6499_7-3208083.html the 4gb one is $80, the 2gb one is $30... so thats cheaper than an ipod, and much better features and stuff

  • Moving music from one computer to another

I downloaded my music from another computer to an external drive, then uploaded to a new computer. I put it in the same folder as the current music from iTunes.   iTunes does not recognize that the music is there.  can someone help me get iTunes to see the music so it can be included on this new computer in the program?
    Thanks.
    Mike

Unless you've moved away from the default iTunes settings simply copying the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source machine into <User's Music> on the target computer (over a network, or via an intermediate copy on a portable drive) will transfer the library.

  • How to erase songs from an MP3 player?

I know this is strictly not an Apple question but I have looked around and cannot find an answer to my problem. I have an MP3 player. It is formatted to DOS FAT.
I can add mp3 songs without any problem to the MP3 player by just attaching it to a USB cable and then moving songs from iTunes Library by drag and drop.
I am having trouble erasing songs from the mp3 player.
I put the songs I do not want into Trash by dragging and dropping or by just choosing Put into Trash and they disappear from the window.
However, the songs are still on the mp3 player and I can still play them.
I have tried deleting the files from the mp3 player itself but it doesn't work either.
I am now thinking of formatting the mp3 player and erasing the disk using Disk Utility. Will that work? Or would that mean that my mp3 player will no longer function as an mp3 player?
The documentation is in a non-English language as the mp3 player was bought overseas so I can't get help from the mp3 manufacturer's website.
    Any suggestions?
I don't want to muck up the mp3 player so that I cannot listen to music. I'd rather keep the unwanted songs than do that because I will have to visit the A/S center to make the mp3 function again and that's a lot of bother. So that's why I am checking here first before I do anything drastic.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for that tip.
I found what the problem was (kind of) ...
When I tried to delete the songs that shouldn't be there, the delete function wouldn't work. When I pressed the button for "delete file", instead of deleting the file, it would take me to the first song which I didn't want to delete.
What I did in the end was:
    * I chose the first song (which was meant to be there).
    * I chose "Delete everything" ---> This time the delete function worked properly and the disk was wiped empty.
    * I then added all the songs I wanted individually again to the mp3 player.
    * I checked the mp3 player after adding the desired songs --- all the undesired songs had disappeared (unlike last time when they were still on the mp3 player even after I had removed them using the hard drive of my computer to open the mp3 player and delete the songs).
The problem was that the delete function didn't work properly when I was trying to delete the undesired songs (that weren't meant to be there as I had taken them to the Trash on my hard drive).
I might try your suggestion next time. I presume you mean empty the Trash on my mac. My mp3 player doesn't have a Trash folder (not that I can see anyway).

  • Can anyone help me with transfering my music from my Zen player to my comput

Hi! I have had this Zen for about 2 years now but I had only got the chance to put music on it. I ended up moving awhile ago and completely forgot all about my Zen mp3 and I found it! So now am trying to figure out how to transfer my music from my Zen player onto my computer. Thanks a lot
    -Diana-

I was having a similar proble. My Zen Micro was saying that errors occured while trying to sync from the player back to the computer. If the same thing happens to you, the problem is in your music. A dead giveaway is the file type. If your music is?a WMA file rather than an MP3, there's a security device that is embedded in the file that prevents you from syncing back to the computer. There is software that exists that strips that device and converts to MP3, but you have to have the songs on the computer first. I haven't figured that out yet. if you have any luck with this, post back.

  • Question about moving music from an iPod to your computer.

In my household, we have iTunes on three different computers. My mother downloaded music on my brother's computer, and it's on his library. We want to burn a cd with the purchased album, but his computer does not have a cd burner, but the other two do. Is there a way to move music from one computer to another, or possibly moving music from an iPod to a computer's library?

Music is synced to iphone from itunes.

  • I am having problems moving music from my computer to my IPhone.

I am having problems moving music from my library to my IPhone. I have everything marked properly and it still won't move to my phone. Any suggestions?

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?
