Moving Music From iPod to Playlist or LIbrary - Can't do it

In some of my playlists the dreaded exclamation mark appears. In locating these songs, I find them on my iPod. It seems that I can not move them to a Playlist or to the Library. I believe them to be tunes I've purchased thru iTunes. Why can't I move them from my Pod to the Playlist and/or Library?

My computer crashed, dammit. Fortunately, had my music backed up on my iPod.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like iTunes wants to allow me move it onto my new computer. Is this some crazy iTunes security feature, or am I doing something wrong?? Any workarounds??? Aargh!!!!

There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod which also supports the transfer of videos from iPod to computer.

i'm having trouble moving music from my iPod back over to my itunes library. Yesterday i could do it. Today i can't. Any thoughts or help?

Moving music off ipod into new itunes library

My laptop was destroyed in a house fire along with my back up itunes disks, though i had my 80GB ipod clasic with me (as usual). I now have a new laptop but i don't know how to move music off my ipod into my new itunes library, or even if it is possible. please help, i want to put new music onto my ipod without losing what is already there. For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

No backup and need to download music FROM ipod to new computer library

My computer crashed and I am on a new computer. I have no back up of my library. I want to upload my music FROM my ipod to my new computer's library. Any help?

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library.There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.

I have an ipod nano 6th gen that was originally synced to a laptop which has broken. all the music is gone but is still on my ipod. how can i transfer this music to my new laptop? is there any free/trustworthy programs available or are there settings that i must set my itunes library to? Please help, this will benefit many of my family members.

Open the ipod_control folder then open the music folder. Copy each one of those folders onto your computer. You can do this by creating a new folder on your desktop and dragging the files into the folder.Open itunes and insert the new folder you created on your computer's desktop into: library ---> Music
You can now sync your ipod to this new computer with out losing all of your music.

Problem moving music from ipod to library

Ok, I've got a second gen nano and it had a bunch of music I had put on it from a non apple mp3 player. I can't get said music to move over to my itunes library nor can I get the files off of the nano to save on my PC music files. I've tried the help guides and looked through the forums with no success. Thank you for any help.

iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer. For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. Unloading music from iPod into a blank library?

I just made a new library for myself and I want the music that's in my iPod onto that library. The easy solution appears to be syncing the two, but in the warning box is says that the music from the library will replace the music from my iPod, so it will probably clear my iPod completely. Now i'm clueless.
On iTunes 6 I would drag the music from my iPod onto the library file manually but there isn't a seperate list for the music on the docked iPod anymore. Please help!
The old library and the new library are both on the same computer, if that helps.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. If you want to continue using the iPod with multiple libraries you'll have to keep it in manual mode, you can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. Otherwise when you've loaded the new library you can return the iPod to syncing automatically: Using iPod with Multiple computers or libraries
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

Need help moving music from iPod nano to new computer

I had a computer that had all of my music on it, it was a combination of music I purchased from iTunes, purchased from other places, and that had been transferred from my CDs. That computer died, and the music was lost. My CDs are in storage and I can't put my hands on them easily. All of that music was on my iPod Nano, but when I plug it in it only gives me the option to erase and sync, and I don't want to lose what's on my iPod but I would like to add new music that I've added to iTunes on my new computer to the iPod. Is this even possible?

it 's possible you just have to change your sync option from automatic to manual
the way to do this is the do the following
-open iTunes while ipod is connected
-if you get the message to erase and sync just click cancel
-on the left hand side of the iTunes window click on your device in the devices section
-in the ipod summary page go to the bottom of the page and choose "manually manage music"
-click apply and now any new music you want to sync you just drag the music from the library section and drop it onto the ipod in the devices section in iTunes

Please advise if you know how to do this or if it is even possible. I already authorized this pc to be able to use the existing itunes account.

You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store. However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer. If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the songs files are on your computer's drive, add them to your iTunes library.

You cannot do it using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store). However, if you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get links for third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer.
NOTE: Songs previously purchased from the iTunes Store can also be re-downloaded on the Purchased screen at no cost.
