Moving music library from one account to another

Quick Question....my wife put a bunch of music on our I mac but on my account. I would prefer to keep her stuff separate like music and pics. Does anyone know if you can simply transfer the libraries music and pictures that she has put under my account to her user name

Are you referring to a Mac OS X user account, or an iTunes Store account? If you're referring to an iTunes Store account, there's no way to transfer a purchase from one iTunes Store account to another. If you're referring to a Mac OS X user account, though (presuming that you each have your own separate iTunes libraries), just copy the music from your OSX user account to hers. You can do this in several ways, but the easiest is probably to just drag the music files to the Users -> Shared folder (you can drag them right from the iTunes window), then log into her user account and drag the files into the iTunes window. Once you're certain that the tracks have copied successfully and play in iTunes, you can then delete them from your iTunes library.

I have 1 computer, an imac. We have two logins and each have a itunes account. How can I move EVERYTHING from one account to the other? I just want to close up one of the accounts and have everything in one place under the same library.

Hi JS,
I'm assuming that you simply want to move all of your music from one library to the other and operate iTunes ONLY from THAT library. If this is the case then follow these steps..
1. Make sure that you place your iTunes Library to be copied into a location where you can access it while logged in from the OTHER account. The only two options you have are the "Public Folder" ~Users/YourUsername/Public or the "Shared Folder" ~Users/Shared. These are the only two folders where you have access when logged into another account.
To do this open iTunes and go to preferences, selecting the "Advanced" tab and then the "General" tab. You will see the location of your iTunes Music folder and next to it a "Change" Button. Select the change button and a window will appear where you can choose to navigate to the desired NEW location for your Music Library. Once you have navigated to either the "Public Folder" or the "Shared Folder, select "Choose" and your library will be moved to the new location. Before you close the preference window make sure you have "Copy Files to iTunes music Folder when adding to Library" and "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" both CHECKED. Now close that window.
2. Go to the iTunes menu again, this time under the FILE menu, there you will see the option to "Export Library." Click this option and a window will appear with a "Library XML" file highlighted at the top of the window. Change the name if you like or leave it as it is, but make sure you leave the xml at the end. Save this document to your Hard Drive. ( Click on your Hard Drive in the window and save the document there)
3. Log out of this account and into your second account.
4. Open itunes and go the Preferences in the menu bar. Again select the "Advanced" tab, and then the "General" Tab. Make sure that the same two boxes are checked. "Add Files to itunes Folder" and "Keep iTunes Folder Organized" Select OK and close the window.
5. Now go the File Menu in iTunes and "Add to Library." In the pop-up window navigate to the Location of your first account (either your Public or Shared Folder) and select "Open." This will add all of your music from the original account.
6. Now go back to the iTunes File menu and select the "Import" option. Navigate to the location of the xml file you saved inside your Hard Drive, select it and choose "Open". This will transfer all of your playlists and restore your iTunes library to its exact same state as the first account...
It took a little while, but that's IT. Now if you no longer desire to use the original iTunes library, just log back into your first account and drag the iTunes Music folder in your "Public" or "Shared" Folder to the trash and delete it. Your new library already holds copies of those files so you won't lose anything.

I need to rephrase my question: Is there a way to transfer my itunes library from one computer (that is being discarded) to my new computer that already has an itunes library on it? we have a new computer that my son put his library on, but we want to combine our libraries and use just the one computer to sync our music on each of our ipods. You can copy the music directly from the iPods. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. I want to move my library from one account to another. However, when I try to sync th old account it is not syncing to my iphone or exporting out. How can I do this? Someone told me that it may be set to WiFi but it was not. My libray is sitting there but I can get it out. Mean while I have changed accounts and down loading to the iphone on my new account (and changing computers as well) How do I make this work so I can get my Library to sync to my iphone or export it from the old account. Media is permanently tied to whatever account was used to purchase it. There is currently no possible way to change the account it is tied to.

No need to do so, if you just copy the library. [Edit]: But it would be possible if necessairy.
Essentially you'll have to move (or copy) all your audio files to the new PC, then import them into iTunes and - if you want to keep your playcounts and ratings - copy the "iTunes Library.itl" from the old computer to the new one. This file is, and needs to be, located in the iTunes folder within "My Music". Make sure iTunes is not running while you manipulate the library file.

Moving music files from one PC to another

Can anyone help here?
I moved my music library from one PC to a new one (using the iPod in the regular flash disk mode).
I don't know what settings I pressed, consolidate library or something, but now I have phantom duplicates of every tune in my iTunes library, i.e. I have double the songs but one of each copy has an exclamation mark by the left hand side and when you click on it, it tells me "the song could not be used because the original file cannot be found ... " I want to delete these phantom songs but cannot sort them so would need to delete them one by one.
What on earth has gone wrong here? What can I do to remove all the phantom songs without deletely one by one (I have 2,000 songs).

How to move iphoto library from one account to another?

For one reason to another I'm making myself a new account on my mac. I'd like to move my iphoto library from the old account to the new one. I was wondering if the instructions about moving the library to a new location (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iPhoto/9.0/en/pht6d607c42.html) is just for moving the library within an account? Or does it also work for moving from old account to a new one on the same machine.
If not, any instructions for moving the library to a new account on the same machine?

If you have any problems with the library in the new account you might have to download and run BatChmod on the library to reset the ownership and permissions to the new account owner for all of the files in the library. User the settings shown in the screenshot below:

For Owner use the owner name for that account. If the account uses a different Group then use it also. You can find the group name by seleting a file in your other account and typing Control+i to bring up the Info window. The ownership and group will be shown near the bottom.

How will Time Machine react? Moving iPhoto Library from one HDD to another

Hi,
I had to move my iPhoto library from one external drive to another. The iPhoto library was backed up via time machine.
Is there a way that I can "teach" Time Machine that the iPhoto-Backup from the old hard drive now belongs to the new drive???

HT203167 Moved iTunes library from one computer to another using external hard drive. Cannot play many files. Says they are missing but locates them in an archive file but still won't play them. Are the files themselves part of the .itl files?

Moved iTunes library from old computer (PC Windows 7) to new (PC Window 8) using external hard drive. Library listing shows all music but can only play a fraction of it. On the ones it cannot play it asks to locate, then refers to an archived version (an .itl file), and still cannot play them. Do I just need to copy the archived .itl over, or is that not where the actual media are (do the actual media files even exist on the new computer?)? Any advice or information on this would be helpful.

*Also...is there any way I can filter out all the tracks with the ! so I can delete the unplaying copies as they're taking up room in my iTunes? I know how to find duplicates, but then I have to go and delete each one individually...*

Moving mail messages from one account to another sends to inbox, not IMAP folder

I have many email addresses (setup via Google apps) but I generally store all of my emails on one standard Gmail IMAP account. It makes looking for old emails easier IMO. Here's what my workflow should look like:
I get an email on account B, reply with account B, then file that email into account B's folder on account A.
Unfortunately, that workflow has been broken for a very long time now and 10.8.3 didn't fix it.
Here's what that workflow actually does:
I get an email on account B, reply with account B, then file that email into account B's folder on account A, the email ends up in the inbox of account A, I then have to drag the email into account B's folder on account A *again* so it actually sticks. The tricky part is that Mail seems to have the message in two locations until I
Instead of moving the email directly to account B's folder on account A, it goes to the inbox of account A. I'm really tired of having to move a message twice just to get it into the right folder. I was hoping 10.8.3 would fix this but it's still broken. I believe I started noticing the issue in Lion.
I only use Gmail IMAP accounts if that helps. I've re-installed from scratch to eliminate any user account / upgrade issues that could've caused the problem.
I would really appreciate any suggestions or confirmation of the problem from other people so I can file another bug report (did that already but they never understood the issue).

Locate your Mail folder via this path - Home/Library/Mail and copy it to the same location on the second machine - when you get the message about overwriting say yes. (make sure Mail is not open on either machine)
I f you're nervous about overwriting the corrupted copy - simply move it out of Home/Library first - say to the desktop. When you copy the new Mail folder over, and you know it works - delete the desktop copy.

I am new to this list, but hope someone can help.
I had purchased quite a few songs from iTunes store and also had copied some from disks.
I saved my whole iTunes Music folder onto a portable hard drive.
I changed computers, so I deauthorized the 5 accounts I had and authorized just my one currently used computer. I thought I downloaded all the music from the portable HD to the library, but apparently not...
Now, each time I try to play something in my library, it tells me it cannot locate the file. If I browse to the connected portable HD, I can find it and play it, but it seems that nothing transferred when I thought I moved the music to my iTunes account. Any ideas would be appreciated. My guess is that you just moved your iTunes folder to your new computer, and didn't consolidate the library (wich may have caused you this trouble). Maybe you should transfer your library again. Just make sure the original files are on your portable HD and don't erase them accidenatally)

I have 2 libraries, one under username "A" (personal) and one under username "B" (work).
it doesn't matter if they're work or personal, they were just names to refer to different accounts.
I have a library...the library is on a PC. I synced with an iPad. I'm syncing with a new PC ("B" or "work") and would like the import the library from the first PC but created with a different Apple account/ID ("personal" or "work").
I hope this helps explain my question.
