Moving music source folders without losing ratings info.

Hi, members.
I'm storing my original music folder at my Time Capsule. I want to move this folder to another USB external hard drive, but i'm afraid of losing ratings and play counts information of each song.
What should I do to remove without losing information? Please give me a solution.

The playlists, ratings etc are not stored in the iTunes Music folder with your songs, but in the iTunes Library database file. If this file is still on your Mac, then your song data will be preserved.
To copy or move the Music folder to another drive, and then use it as your iTunes source, read this article which explains all you need to know about how iTunes manages music :

hey Guys, I just changed my laptop which I use to sync my ipod. I understand that if I change the setting to manual update I will be able to see my song without losing them, and that if I show hidden files I can actually copy the music back on my computer.
My question is wheter if I do the overstated procedure, will I be able to see the play count and ratings that I had on my ipod in itunes? Please help, I put a lot of work in that

Make sure you have a full backup of your iPhone before recyncing with the iMac as during this process all data will be wiped out from your iPhone.

Keeping the folder you are moving to the far left will do the trick.

If things went correctly your phone should look the same. But now you are able to sync with your new computer without losing your data. If you succesfully synced your phone with iTunes and still have all your apps and other data intact then you're all set. (If you didn't get a merge or replace prompt for calendars or contacts you may not have chosen to sync these by selecting to do so on the Info tab of your sync settings.)
Updating is another thing; it does erase the phone but restores from backup later. Read "The Update Process" here: https://sites.google.com/site/appleclubfhs/support/advice-and-articles/updating- ios so that you understand what to expect before updating your phone. Also, as a precaution, before updating your phone you should always import all your photos to your computer and back up your contacts. Can I move my files to new folders without losing playlist/play count info?

I just moved all my mp3s to my external hard drive. Now they all have exclamation points next to them. Is there any easy way to reconnect the files than individually? I have 7000 files that I just moved, and I don't have the time to right-click on each and every one of them individually. But I don't want to lose my playlist and play count information either. What do I do?

If you keep your music in multiple locations, there's no easy way for iTunes to keep track if you just start moving things around. If you allow iTunes to manage your files (Keep iTunes Music folder organized & Copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library), then it is much easier to change the location of your music.
1. Change the location in Preferences -> Advanced -> General: iTunes Music Folder Location.
2. From the main interface, select Advanced -> Consolidate Music (from the menus).
This will cause iTunes to copy all of your music to the new location. When you've verified everything is OK, then you can delete the original iTunes Music (not iTunes parent) folder. The library database will remain the the original location.

Only music you purchased in iTunes can be moved from your iPad to your Mac.
Music in general goes the other way - from computer to iPad.
If you want to transfer music you purchased in iTunes from your iPad to your Mac, here's how:
Plug your iPad into iTunes, don't let it sync, then from iTunes' menu on your computer, do File > Devices > [your iPad] > Transfer Purchases

Moving music in Folders

I am currently ripping music from some compilation cds. This puts it all into one nicely labeled folder. When I go to convert the file, itunes then creates separate folders in different locations for all the artists from that compilation. I have spent time moving the converted files back to one folder, having to "find" then again in the itunes software so that it recognizes the new location. However, once I close out of itunes, it tells me it can't find those files again. Any suggestions on how to keep my music organized or to stop this from happening when I convert the songs?

Try opening iTunes preferences. Then click on advanced tab. Then uncheck "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library." By default, iTunes copies music to its own media folder when you use iTunes to play the music.

I use http://decimus.net/Synk to keep my iMac's iTunes synchronized with the backup iTunes folder on an external disk. Any changes I make are automatically synced to the backup. You might find it useful.

Retrieving old backups without losing current info?

My boss uses a BB Curve 9350, with a two-way sync with his Outlook account.
Until we figured out the issue this week, he had his BB set to delete messages/calendar entries that were older than 60 days.
Because of the sync settings he was using, this also deleted his older entries in Outlook.
I'm pretty unfamiliar with BB, but I gather that there are backups that he may be able to retrieve. Our goal at this point is simply to be able to print older messages and calendar entries that would (hopefully) be in the backup files.
Can someone walk me through doing this? Is there a way to do this without replacing/losing the current files?

Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
Restoring a backup file will overwrite what is currently on the BlackBerry® Curve™ 9350 smartphone. There is no supported way to open and print the contents of a backup file.
What I would recommend doing is backing up the BlackBerry® Curve™ 9350 smartphone, then restoring an older backup file and synchronizing one-way to Microsoft® Outlook® to restore the calendar entries to Microsoft® Outlook®. You may want to try doing this with different backup files to make sure you have recovered all calendar entries.
Once the appointments have been synchronized with Microsoft® Outlook®, I suggest restoring the new backup file and synchronizing again so that all calendar entries are on both the Microsoft® Outlook® calendar and the BlackBerry® Curve™ smartphone calendar.

What you are describing is iTunes default setting for synching with your iPod:
...iTunes automatically updates iPod's music library whenever you connect iPod to your computer. iTunes transfers new songs you've added, and erases songs you've removed.
There is an alternative, manual updating. But it's really a lot less convenient. For details, have a look at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61148 .
If you choose this method, pay particular heed to the warning about backing up your music.
