Moving music to second drive - keeping iTunes on same computer

I am going to move my iTunes music to another drive on the same Windows XP computer I have now. I will keep the iTunes base location (library file) on my current location and will only move the music itself. I'll change the itunes option to point to the new music location. I don't want to lose my playlists. Will this work?

#1 Create a new folder on another drive that will hold your music in future
#2 In iTunes preferences Advanced point the music folder location to this new folder
#3 From iTunes Menu Advanced choose: "Consolidate Library..."
Now all your audio tracks will be copied to that new location.
Check if everything went fine - then you may delete your old "iTunes Music" folder.
Don't touch or move your "Library" files!

  • How do I set up my second Ipod and itunes library (same computer)?

I recently filled up my first Ipod, and want to load my second Ipod's software on the same computer without causing interference and problems with my first ipod and library. How do I load my second ipod's software and create a library just for it, without the libraries becoming confused, or not recognizing ipods, or double copying songs?
    Thanks in advance,
    Doug

  • HT2729 Steps to transfer music from flash drive into iTunes library.

What are the steps to transfer music from a jump drive into iTunes library? I am not finding where to drag a song off my jump drive and onto my iPhone.

You can't drag it from a jump drive to your phone. You can drag it from a jump drive to iTunes on your computer then sync your iPhone.

how do I get all my music from icloud to my itunes on my computer and my iphone and stop using icloud?

    Hi,
You music is not in your iCloud account, it is in iTunes in the Cloud. Whether you use iCloud personally or not, it will not have an effect on the iTunes in the Cloud functionality. If you are using iTunes, then all of your purchases through iTunes will use iTunes in the Cloud as a backup for your purchases.

  • ITUNES Reauthorize same computer:

Itunes Reauthorize same computer: I deauthorized all computers, not I can't find the option to reauthorize the same computer.  The option has disappeared.  I'm using windows 8

    Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • Moving music from my iPod to Itunes...

I recently downloaded Yamipod because my computer crashed, leaving me no songs in iTunes 7.0, but 3783 songs on my iPod. I want to move these songs from my iPod to my iTunes, whenever I plug my iPod into the computer, iTunes automatically opens and asks me if I want to replace the songs on my iPod with the songs in my library, which is zero. I hit cancel because I want all of the songs off of my ipod to be put into my iTunes and iTunes then displayed the message Updating iPod. Thinking that iTunes was erasing my library, I disconnected the iPod, fearing that for some reason my songs will be removed from my iPod. None of the songs were harmed and the iPod still works fine, but I want the songs on my computer. How can I keep iTunes from recognizing my iPod? Is there a program that does this task better? (I would be willing to pay for some software if it is ensured to move my music flawlessly.)

Connect your iPod and when you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also if you are using Yamipod your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • Unable to add music from hard drive to iTunes

I have recently upgraded to iTunes 7.01 add for some reason my music was missing from the itunes library. I cannot add any of the files from the hard drive to the itunes library. They are all files that I have copied over from CD and there was no issues with them in itunes 6. Any help would be appreciated.

Solved. I changed the iT folder and my iP got lost the connection with the proper library. Had to change it back and re-connect to the correct library.

  • Put H.Drive with iTunes onto new computer...lost playlist and ratings

My main computer that had iTunes on it crashed the other day, my motherboard was fried. So I put the hard drive with the iTunes into another computer. The iTune files are not corrupted, but I have lost my playlist and ratings.
Is there a way to recover my old playlist and ratings?

    Yes there may be.
iTunes operates as a database of information for your music files. The actual music files are stored on your PC, not within iTunes. iTunes keeps absolute references of the music file location and other information in its database file. This allows iTunes to use music files from any location on the PC: different directories/folders on the main HD, another internal drive, an external drive, or a network drive (or any combination of the above).
Each song reference has a specific and hardcoded location (both drive letter & path) so iTunes can find and play (or sync) it. Move the file, change the path, re-map the drive it is on, shut down or remove the Drive, and iTunes will lose the file (giving you the '!' of a ‘Broken Link’). Lose, move or corrupt the ‘iTunes Music.itl’ file and your complete Library will ‘vanish’.
If you delete, corrupt, or otherwise lose your ‘iTunes Library.itl’ file, you will end up with a ‘blank’ Library within iTunes. Nine times out of ten, your underlying music files are still on the PC. They can be ‘re-Added’ via the File==>Add Folder/File menu command, but you will lose some of the music meta-data. Recovering your Library via backup copies of the iTunes database file, or from importing the XML file is always preferable.
By your placing the previous C: drive (I'm assuming) into another PC now reading it as the H: drive, iTunes is either looking at a blank Library database file, or reading the old one, but looking for the music on the C: drive where it was before (I'll guess the former).
IF you can put all the music on the C: drive into the exact same path as it was previously
AND you can place a copy of your previous ITL database file into the '..\My Music\iTunes' folder on the C: drive
THEN when you open iTunes, it should restore your complete Library.
Post back if you have questions or if you need to clarify your exact HD situation (I may have misread your meaning...).

  • I have a new hard drive and itunes and my computer (windows XP) no longer recognise my ipod. I also had the problem with the registry keys not being present but this has now been fixed. However i can no longer link my ipod up with itunes.

When I first tried itunes with my new hard drive there was the problem with the registry keys but something also flagged up about needing a signed driver. Is this anything to do with why Itunes and my computer no longer recognises when my ipod is linked up? Whatever i try under 'devices' my ipod is never available to sync up. If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this has not worked. I didn't have quicktime to begin with so I don't know if that makes a difference? After following the instructions, I get the "registry keys missing" problem appear again (which I've subsequently fixed again) and then when I connected the ipod I got the following message - 'Device driver software was not successfully installed'.
I've tried windows update but this doesn't do anything as '...the service is not running'.
    Any suggestions?

  • Just bought an apple tv and it wont stream music from my imac. when i click on the apple tv music icon it goes straight into the itunes store and so i can only access the music i have bought from itunes not the music i have stored in itunes on my computer

i just bought an apple tv and it wont stream music from my imac. when i click on the apple tv music icon it accesses the itunes store and brings up only that music i have purchased from apple instead of all the music i have stored in itunes on my imac.

The music icon will only access your purchased music. You need to go to the computer icon. It must be on and running iTunes, and home-sharing enabled in order for it to be accessible to Apple TV
