Moving not copying pictures to iPhoto 9.5.3?

Help! I ran out of room on my Macbook for all my pics. I bought an external hard drive and copied my Iphoto Library from my mac to my external hard drive. I found this action COPIED my file didn't move it. I then went back to my mac and deleted the iphoto Library. I then realized that for some reason in the copy it made a whole bunch of separate files for some of the photos, not all ( not sure why). I thought ok, I will just import these to my iphoto library. I went into Iphoto pointed to the external hard drive to find the Iphoto Library and THEN did an import of all these extra pictures. When I did that I noticed that they didn't go away on my external hard drive. It seems it just made copies. I tried again. This time Iphoto told me that these pics were duplicates. So I thought the pics were indeed imported and these were just copies, so I deleted a bunch of them. When I went back to the pictures it is now saying. " can't find orginal pictures" Well that's because I thought it imported the files. Seems it didn't and now I have lost those pics forever. I don't have the room to store pics in several places... How do I MOVE pics into iphoto and not just have it copy. BTW: I did try the command key and then drag them to the iphoto icon. NOPE, still copies.

I'm not clear on what you did or what is going on and since you state that you have iPhoto '11 version 9.5.3 which I am not aware exists (the latest version is 9.5.1) and you state that you have OS X 10.5.7 which would not allow the installation of any iPhoto 9.5.x version
I am guessing that maybe you imported your iPHoto library fromt he EHD back into iPhto but that is only a guess
It sounds lik you need to restr=ore your backup of the iPhoto library from before you did any of this and start over and do it correctly
the correct way to move your iPhtoo libreary to an external drive is
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Copy pictures from iphoto 08 to sd card

Can someone tell me step by step how to copy pictures from iphoto 08 to an sd card using a card reader?

hi, is there a way to have the SD card appear directly in iphoto in a way that allows you to drag and drop photos into it the same way you might do so with an album? I tried doing this with the default format of the SD card and it would show up but not let me view the contents or copy photos onto the SD card. They I tried using disk utility to reformat the SD card as a macOS Extended device and now it doesn't even show up in iPhoto. The main reason I'm trying to do this is so that my father will have an easy way to transfer photos from iPhoto to his digital photo frame using the SD card. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

  • Spotlight do not find pictures in iphoto 11

I have notised that Spotlight does not find the pictures in iphoto 11. I'm running Lion 10.7.2. Solutions?

Well, perhaps Spotlight doesn't understand the iPhoto database with the tags and stuff (which it did in older versions). But it does understand the file package. It's just a package of files and folders after all.
If I create a new iPhoto library and import a couple of pictures, then in the Finder show the new iPhoto library package content and search for "jpg" and click on "new iPhoto Library" it returns a lot of hits, since it's indeed full of jpg files. The problem is that if I do the exact same thing with the old iPhoto library package - it returns zero hits.
Does it have to do with the iPhoto library moving from one disk to another, migrating? I don't know the answer, but it's really irritating. And I'm hoping someone knows the magic trick out there to fix it once and for all.

  • Can not copy pictures from my library to folders I created

I have a lot of pictures in my Library - I only have one Library - the default.
Now I want to organize many/not all of the pictures in my library to specific folders/labeled to match the pictures.
I created some new folders that are labeled - then are not sub folders under the Library.
What I do is --- while I'm in the Library, I click 1x on the picture, copy - then I click on the specific folder, paste. The picture does not appear in my folder.
Would someone tell me what I'm going wrong - how to copy pictures from my Library to specific folders ?
Also --- I do backup my Library to an external drive, when I eventually get pictures in specific folders in iPhoto --- I must now choose those specific folders to backup in addition to my Library ? I use the backup software from OS X 10.6.x to run my backup's to external disk.
    Thanks,
    Bob

Now I want to organize many/not all of the pictures in my library to specific folders/labeled to match the pictures.
The easiest way to do this is using iPhoto - select the photos and export them (file menu==> export) to the folder you want
I created some new folders that are labeled - then are not sub folders under the Library.
What I do is --- while I'm in the Library, I click 1x on the picture, copy - then I click on the specific folder, paste. The picture does not appear in my folder.
This is not recommended -if you continue messing around inside the iPhoto library it is likely that you will change or move something and corrupt your library
Would someone tell me what I'm going wrong - how to copy pictures from my Library to specific folders ?
    Use the export command
Also --- I do backup my Library to an external drive, when I eventually get pictures in specific folders in iPhoto --- I must now choose those specific folders to backup in addition to my Library ? I use the backup software from OS X 10.6.x to run my backup's to external disk.
Backup will backup exactly what you tell it to - only you know and have access to those settings

  • Firefox will not copy pictures from webpages

    ''Basic Summary''
With Firefox version 12.0, now when I try to copy pictures and say paste them into a word document, it will only paste the URL for the picture.
    ''Steps For Recreating Event''
    1. Open up Firefox to a page with a picture.
    2. Right click the picture, select copy image
    3. Open up Microsoft Word, Right click on screen
    & select paste.
    4. URL only appears.
    ''Temporary Solutions''
Other browsers such as IExplorer & GoogleChrome will continue to work.
Also if I rollback Firefox to ''version 11.0'' It will work properly and not just paste in the picture URL. So it's made obvious that there is another bug with Firefox 12.0.

As a new feature in Firefox 12, when you copy an image, Firefox stores HTML code for the image so that it can be pasted into Gmail (and presumably some other online rich text editors). As you have discovered, there were some unintended side effects to this change. Those are now on the bug list to be fixed as described in this recent thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/926093 Copy and Paste of Images NOT working. | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help].
Your best workaround for Word is to use the Paste Special feature. In Word 2003 and earlier, it's on the Edit menu. In Word 2007 and later, use the little drop-triangle under the clipboard icon.

  • Moving (not copying) photos

I do photo editing with various apps on my Macbook. My original photos are arranged by camera number (e.g., IMG_1234) under date. When I edit a photo in an app like Photoshop Elements and do something like HDR, I save the image as the original file name plus and extension (e.g, IMG_1234 HDR). I have a folder on my Macbook called Photo Art where I want all those edits to reside. Current photos I edit can be saved directly to that folder. My problem is that I have dozens of previous edited photo that I want to move (not copy) to the Photo Art folder. Is there any way to move them to that folder? Copying means that the originals have to be manually deleted. OS 10.6.8. Sorry to be so wordy. Thanks.

Found it. Hold down the Command Key while dragging.

  • IPhoto 08: why Finder search does not include pictures in `iPhoto Library`?

If I try and search with Finder for all the images in my HD, there is apparently no way to make it show the pictures contained in the iPhoto Library directory...why?
Of course, if I start search INSIDE the iPhoto Library it will show them.......
It seems like the iPhoto Library directory is somehow 'different' and kept hidden, forcing you to use iPhoto directly.
Any hint on this and possibile workaround in finder?
    thank you
    Panoma

Just got my new MacPro a week ago and had not yet launched iPhoto 08, so I just now did that, authorized it to update the iPhoto stuff already in my account, then dinked around with some things. Changed one photo, deleted some stuff, and so on. Then quit the program. I just did a Spotlight seach on the photo I had altered and it showed up just fine. A command click on the title in the Spotlight results opened up the folder the photo is now in:
    "/Users/francine/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Modified/2007/Pine Lake Resort/titlePLRF_2.psd"
Must admit I was a bit startled by the fact that the iPhoto Library is no longer showing as a folder. Nonetheless its contents do seem to be updated--I imported two photos from an external drive, and they immediately showed up in Spotlight as being in the iPhoto Library.
So the only thing I can suggest is that you try to get Spotlight to re-index your iPhoto Library. You do this by opening the Spotlight pane in System Preferences. Make sure there is a check mark in front of Images, the click the Privacy tab and add your iPhoto Library to the list, you can just drag and drop it into the list. Wait a minute, then select it in the Privacy list and click the minus button to remove it. Spotlight should start re-indexing it.

  • My Time Machine did not backup of my iPhoto library

I change macbooks recently and, before sell the old one (wich has just 6 months old) i make a Time Machine. Anyway, when i try to restore my library from that Time Machine, it has pictures of 7 year ago, all the pictures that i take in those last 6 months are gone! I can't see them. And i try to 4 differents dates to restore but was the same resault: Old pictures. All the other documents are on it but not any pictures from iphoto. Even i use the finder and check in the "show contents" in the Original Iphoto album but they're not there. Its a way to recover that?

Look my friend, i made a Time Machine copy just before sell it. Then that computer travel so far away from me you know? and since i check that i have all my works and some important information y imagine that i also have all my pictures on it. How can all my work folders be updated if they were create almost at same time that all the pictures and i have no pictures at all?
Its a shame that the Time machine don't copy the iphoto in the backup.

  • ITUnes not syncing video form iPhoto

    Hi,
Since iTunes 10.1 has been installed on my iMac (with IOS 4.2.1) videos from iPhoto do not sync anymore, despite the setting in iTunes 'include video' being selected.
    Anybody else experiences the same?
    Thanks!
    JP.

You may have figured it out by now. None of the resetting of the iPod or the rebuilding of the iPhoto library (command+option) or permission rebuilding works to solve a -208 error when the error refers to an iPhoto library sync with iTunes. Supposedly, this error occurs with corrupt AIFF files as well. This error will occur on different iPods which try to sync to the same iPhoto library. The iPhoto library is definitely corrupted. Mine was due to a sudden power loss.
NOTE: I do not "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library" under Advanced iPhoto preferences, so that my photos don't have a chance of getting messed up (like error -208s). If you do, the steps below may be different for you. Always a good idea to back up your photos.
Here is how I fixed it. All the steps may not be necessary. Go to /pictures directory under your user (or wherever your iPhoto library is located), and rename the "iPhoto Library" or whatever you called it to something else, like "iPhoto Library 2". Open iPhoto, and it can't find the library, and asks if you want to find it or create a new one. Tell it to create a new one, and put at least a picture in the library. Sync with iPod, which should work without error and put the picture on your iPod. Close iTunes. Close iPhoto. Now, to save all your pictures (thumbnails) already in the iPhoto library, copy everything BUT "iPod Photo Cache" folder, which seems to be the culprit, from the "iPhoto Library 2" folder into the "iPhoto Library" folder. Open iPhoto, and all your pictures should now be in the library. Open iTunes and sync iPod, and all your pictures should sync out without error.

How can I copy pictures from iphoto on a CD then play it on my blueray player on the TV?

You are attempting to do this in a very difficult manner. Why not simply get an AppleTV ($75 refurbished from Apple) and you can share all your iPhoto content on your TV. That would be much easier than exporting to a CD/DVD, loading it into a player and then playing from a DVD. Apple tells about setting up Home Sharing in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4352.

  • Copy pictures from my iMac to my ipad

How do I copy pictures from iphoto to my ipad.  I do NOT want to sync, only copy certain pictures from various events to my ipad.

The sync method, by definition, means you replace all the pics, with all that you want.  Mentally, you are using your computer as the master, and just copying down what you want.  So if you really only want to just add specific pics, you cannot do that with the sync option. Although, once you get used to the routine, it is virtually the same.  Assuming you want to add 1 picture, and assuming you have the photo section set up as you left it last time, you simply x the additional picture and push sync.  It recopies everything that was there, plus the new picture.
But I can understand if you want to add and remove certain pics on the fly that you need a different solution.  And Dropbox works great.
There are other options that might not fit into your free approach, but when you get a buck or two left over, take a look at photosync.  I use that all the time to send picts to and from the pad, phone and desktop.  Buy the app once and you can install it on any I devices.  There is a desktop app as well, I think it is free, but not real sure, as it has been a year since I got it.   And if you are using a brand x phone, there is a version for android.  And they all talk to each other.      Not free, but a worthwhile couple of bucks if you really want an easy way to flip pictures around.  ( there are other similar apps, this just happens to be the one I am familiar with)
