Moving notes in Notation is reeeeaaally slow...
Before I trash and reinstall GB 09, I would like to find out if anyone else has this issue.
I write a lot in Score view. If I mess up on a note and try to move it, it takes several seconds for GB to do it. It's frustrating since a lot of time is spent re-re-correcting notes or waiting for the note to move. Since it happens regardless of what software instrument I use (even Grand Piano), I do think it's something with GB itself.
The interesting thing is usually when this happens, my MacBook Pro is running a "kernel_task" at the same time and they both chunk up CPU and memory. Unfortunately, it happens a LOT.
Any ideas?
I was experiencing the same exact problem using a 2.0Ghz G5 iMac and it was driving me nuts. I loaded a couple of my songs onto a USB stick and went to Best Buy and the Apple store and loaded my songs into GB on their display iMacs. Presto! I was able to edit midi notes with absolutely no lag time on the iMacs in both stores. So... I replaced my 3-year old G5 iMac with a 24-inch 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac and the problem disappeared. Not the most cost effective solution, but the lag time on my old iMac was horribly slow and made it almost impossible to be productive, especially when you are in the moment of a creative spark.
You might want to try the same thing I did and load one of your songs into a demo Mac in a store and see if the problem still exists.

After I change my OS from Mavericks to Yosemite, moving files between folders is very slow.
For example, if I move one jpg file in Desktop to Pictures folder (or just any other folders like Trash), it takes about 3 seconds.
When I was still using Mavericks, it made that Ding sound and transferred files right away. However, now, although it makes the Ding sound right away, the file is still there for 3 seconds.
I tried to clean up my mac using many apps, but they never fixed this problem.
I've also tried what I saw on this one thread. OS X File Transfers Very Slow
Go->Connect to Server then type "cifs://server-address" but it says there is a problem and did nothing. (maybe different issue)
Please help!There may be other issues, but you installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates

First, for changing my question to the right forum. I am new on this and wasn't aware I was in the wrong forum.
Secondly, even though my initial question is not answered as in: I just want to remove Classic, what you say is right. I think now, after writing my long question and seeing your answers, that I should start from scratch.
To answer your question, I bought the new drive to be able to store and back up into DVDs and CDs all the photographs and movies that are still in the computer. I also need to make CDs of my portfolio since I am trying to find a new job and buying a new Mac at this point is out of the question. To upgrade the computer: I just do not have use for OS 9 anymore; I cannot upgrade to the latest Java, Safari or have issues with Flash or other programs; the programs that I have and need will still run perfectly fine or better in Leopard. And even if I could buy another computer I would still like to hang onto this computer for a while. -
Time Machine not backing up. Very slow, essentially hanging. I have 10.7.5 Mac OS X Lion (11G63). I have put in all updates. I tried to put my folders into "private" in the Spotlight (b/c I read that might be the problem). Still not working.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.

If you didn't perform a totally clean install of the studio 2 when you got it, that might help. It's always been my habit to rebuild my startup disk any time a new OS comes out (i.e. Panther to Tiger) and when a new studio is released... I just have a very stable system as are the ones I watch after. I'm totally convinced this needs to be done periodically. At the school I teach at part time, there are about 65 FCP bays. They do this totally clean install every single semester. I'm convinced that this is the reason they are so stable in general, even being used by many user accounts etc...and by novice users to boot.
Also keep in mind that as drives get fuller, they get slower... so need to keep at least 10% free... they actually start slowing down at 70% capacity. As a side note, CalDigit's new HD PRO unit is stripped in such a manner that it doesn't slow down as it fills up... Apparently they stripe it so that every other drive is using the fastest part of the platters and the others start by using the slowest part of the platters or some such...

Firefox 4.0 is the WORST browser I have ever seen. It freezes, crashes, closes, changes screens, does not respond, and runs 8X SLOWER than 3.6. Tasks I used to do in 30 minutes, now takes me 40 minutes or more. I went back to 3.6 and immediately had a tremendous improvement.
Mozilla needs to get rid of this load of lies about a new crap program, and go back to the 3.6 version. Version 4.0 is WORST than any other program I have ever seen.The slow / hesitant scrolling problem seems to be an artifact of the database Firefox uses to keep track of where you go, what you do, etc. It uses sqlite databases which get fragmented over time.
There are several fixes:
Some are add-ons and work internally, such as Vacuum Places (search the addons for it).
Some are external. Speedyfox is one I just tried, and found to work quite well. I think it did a better job than Vacuum Places, but requires Firefox to be shut down before it can work properly.
Find Speedyfox using a web search. -
Why is PDF scrolling not always smooth and very slow?
With some of my adobe reader pdf's, when I scroll along, it goes super slow. Sometimes, when I stop scrolling, the document keeps moving for several seconds, so I then have to scroll back up to where I wanted to be. Why does this happen with some documents? Is there a way to fix it? Is there another reader that might help in those situations?

However, I have solved the problem, for anyone interested. I searched several forum discussions on this website and saw a lot of references to using "preview" rather than adobe reader, to read my longer pdf's. I followed one suggestion, changing the settings to "change all" pdf's to be opened and read through preview. OMG, what a difference! It is perfect now, an amazing difference. So, I am happy, as my digital ebooks in pdf form are now actually readable. -

purchased an app from iPad Mini for free, and then when I open iTunes in windows, it automatically try to download the app, and freezes.
I am not sure what is the problem behind, but the crashes certainly slows down my computer ( i7 quad core, with 3GB ram, after crashing it is slower than a P4 computer....)
Is it possible to Not Sync the app into itunes?Did you manage to get it working mine disappeared after I while I managed to download it but now my laptop/iTunes won't recognise my iPhone!

TO_CHAR not Scientific Notation
I want to convert a number to a string but guarantee that the result will NOT be in scientific notation.
TO_CHAR(num, '9999999999.99999999999999') is not very convenient since the data type of the number is BINARY_DOUBLE and I will not know how many significant figures the number will have.user3975338 wrote:

A while ago it became impossible for me to use the most desired function in Photoshop; I could no longer drag the display by simply holding the spacebar. After looking or some information online, it came to my attention that many people were experiencing the same issue. Appearantly there are many rather 'small' settings that can cause this issue.
First of all... ALWAYS make sure to have your software up to date when you are experiencing issues with your software!
In most cases this issue is being caused by external programs. Therefore I'd recommend you to troubleshoot these programs first.
Issue caused by external programs.
Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and in some cases other applications can cause this issue to arise. Try shutting down programs trough taskmanager. Check one by one to see if, and which application is causing the issue.
On laptops the mousepad can have additional settings that could conflict with the shortcut. In most cases this is some kind of a delay on the touchpad to prevent unintentional clicking while typing (TouchGuard, etc..). Check these settings if you are working on a laptop.
Issue caused by Adobe Photoshop.
When starting Photoshop from an user account other than your own, it should start from scratch. Seeing it does not contain your personal preferences and settings, this is the best way to make sure that the settings are fine.
In case you are unable to use a different account, or want to troubleshoot somewhat more, check the following:
By holding down the CTRL, SHIFT and ALT buttons while Photoshop is starting, this will give you the option to reset all settings.
Open the following directories, look for the Photoshop folders and edit the folder name by adding .old at the end.

%appdata%\adobe
Re-install software. When performing this step, make sure the folders shown above are renamed as well.Thanks!
I suspected the same .But in the keyboardviewer When im pressing cntl+spacebar it is showing the keys have been pressed visually. Thats what is making me to worry more.
But Wish to say that I bought a Microsoft Keyboard and it is working fine as expected. The previous one is
DAT keyboard and it has been said it is compatabile with Mac.

Moving not copying pictures to iPhoto 9.5.3?
Help! I ran out of room on my Macbook for all my pics. I bought an external hard drive and copied my Iphoto Library from my mac to my external hard drive. I found this action COPIED my file didn't move it. I then went back to my mac and deleted the iphoto Library. I then realized that for some reason in the copy it made a whole bunch of separate files for some of the photos, not all ( not sure why). I thought ok, I will just import these to my iphoto library. I went into Iphoto pointed to the external hard drive to find the Iphoto Library and THEN did an import of all these extra pictures. When I did that I noticed that they didn't go away on my external hard drive. It seems it just made copies. I tried again. This time Iphoto told me that these pics were duplicates. So I thought the pics were indeed imported and these were just copies, so I deleted a bunch of them. When I went back to the pictures it is now saying. " can't find orginal pictures" Well that's because I thought it imported the files. Seems it didn't and now I have lost those pics forever. I don't have the room to store pics in several places... How do I MOVE pics into iphoto and not just have it copy. BTW: I did try the command key and then drag them to the iphoto icon. NOPE, still copies.
I'm not clear on what you did or what is going on and since you state that you have iPhoto '11 version 9.5.3 which I am not aware exists (the latest version is 9.5.1) and you state that you have OS X 10.5.7 which would not allow the installation of any iPhoto 9.5.x version
I am guessing that maybe you imported your iPHoto library fromt he EHD back into iPhto but that is only a guess
It sounds lik you need to restr=ore your backup of the iPhoto library from before you did any of this and start over and do it correctly

Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
