Moving of connections

I recently moved into an older property and the telephone cables are coming in (in a rather unsightly way) through one of the window frames. Someone has actually taken the biggest chunk of frame away to accomodate it
I'd like to change the way this is entering the house so that I can tidy the window back up, is this an easy thing to do/move? Can anyone tell me what the 2 black wires are and also the 2 white wires you can see coming from the corner of the window? This particular box (we have them coming through 2 other windows) is currently connected to what I think is the Master socket and also to a slave socket.
Does anyone know if this is a job I can do myself or would I need to call in a Pro? I've attached a picture so you can see what I'm talking about.
Fingers crossed
Marie

  • Moving the Connection Broker SQL database

    Hi
I have a working RDS 2012R2 configured with high availability mode. I now need to move the RD Connection Broker SQL database to new SQL server. Can anyone please point to documentation that specifies how this might be done
    Cheers
    Laurie

    Hi
Well I gave it go and moved to sql2012 and all seems OK. This is what I did
Copy the old DB to the new SQL server. Database file location was same on old and new server
Apply the permissions same as old SQL server
    Logon to RDGATEWAY
    Get/save the current settings by
    Open PowerShell on RDgateway
    Type ipmo remotedesktop
    Type Get-RDConnectionBrokerHighAvailability. Save results
Used the following commandSet-RDDatabaseConnectionString -ConnectionBroker "RDGATEWAYSERVERFQDN"
-DatabaseConnectionString "DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 11.0;SERVER=NEWSQLSERVER;Trusted_Connection=Yes; APP=Remote Desktop Services Connection Broker;Database=NAMEOFSQLDATABASE"
    Detached old DB
    Restarted RDGATEWAY server

You could try reading about wingates, socks and proxies (oh before i forget, turn off java, javascript, cookies, what's related, and smart update ... if you are using IE you're not very smart). Also try installing a firewall, or DHCP or you can learn from me!Here is the info of best 10 proxy software, from which you may try: http://www.techyv.com/article/top-10-free-proxy-software

  • Moving house connection fee?

Well basically i've moved home and they couldn't promise my infinity because flat I was moving too wasn't listed as having a phoneline (Had it in my previous house) so they said what we'll do is put you down for regular broadband install it and if infinity is there then you can call us and just upgrade. The engineer came by and did install a phone line because there wasn't one.
Now i've checked my account recently and it says connection fee of 130? i'm confused I thought it was free, it was with infinity and the customer service agent on the phone told me yeah it'll be free no problems.
I'm not sure if this happened on my first infinity statement because I don't remember checking it, I think it just said connection fee 130 then said below -130 because it's free with the package.
What's going on here? I sincerely hope I they won't be asking for a connection fee or I would have gone with virgin instead. I was told there would be no fee.

yes infinity like any broadband service is better wired
yes infinity will work wirelessly but not as fast i have seen drops of up to 50% of a wired speeds
there are alternatives to wireless that will give you the best infinity speeds
powerlines are a very good option this lik may help you http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/networking/powerline_operation.jpg they just plug into a power socket and use the household wiring to make the connection between your hub and the PC

  • Moving router connection point.

Yesterday the BT engineer came round and installed Infinity in the house - everything works fine.
The problem is that connection point that I requested is only a temporary point - at somepoint I want to rig up a home network and put ethernet sockets in some rooms.
The original master socket was at Location A.
The engineer setup the open reach infinity socket at Location B.
The socket at Location A looks like this one:
    http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/635i42831032043407CB/image-size/original?v=mpb...
The socket now at Location B looks like this one:
    http://phil.lavin.me.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/fttc-faceplate.jpg
Originally the socket at Location B was a plain old phone extension socket.
My question is; how can I go about moving the modem from Location B to Location A? Is it just a case of procuring another faceplate and fitting it at Location A? Or is Location B now the master socket and an engineer will be required to make Location B the master socket?
BTW; the engineer told me that it is copper running into the house not fibre optic cable.
    Thanks,
    Ben.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes socket B is now the master socket.
The only person/people that can move the master socket is Openreach or one of their appointed contractors.
If you want / need the modem at socket A you can install your own data cable.
Method A High quality RJ11 to RJ11 cable.  The maximum length being 30 meters.  This cable should be as short as possible as it directly affects overall connection speed.
Method B using the centre pairs of wires from the cable in method A you can connect on to the back of the RJ11 socket inside the master socket.  Others please comment - Are you allowed to do this yourself?  I know Openreach normally do it this way.
Keeping the modem at Socket B and the router / HomeHub at socket A
Method A Connect the two together using a longer CAT5e or better network cable.  This can be up to 100 meters long.
Method B Conenct the two together using ethernet over power adapters. Others please comment!
Yes the technology you have brought into is FTTC, Fibre to the Cabinet. The connection between your premises and the telephone exchange goes via a local street cabinet.  Your connection to the cabinet is by copper cable. Unless you are unfortunate and then it could be aluminium.  The cabinet now houses the DSL equipment that used to be in the exchange.  Between the cabinet and the exchange is a fibre optic connection shared by everyone that is connected at your cabinet.
    Hope this helps.

  • Moving router connections

Presently have router connections in my basement. How hard is it to move connections to first floor?

For connectons, are you talking about something like a homerun? This is something where Verizon will install a splitter at your NID/enterance point that will filter out the DSL for the rest of your home. The DSL modem will be given it's own dedicated line.
If you don't have one of these, moving the router should be as simple as taking the modem/router upstairs and plugging it into a telephone line and power. If it syncs and your speeds are correct, it's probably good to go.
If you do need to change around any of the wiring, things depend on how your home is wired to begin with.

  • MOVED: Mainboard connections

This topic has been moved to Intel Core-iX boards.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=149512.0

As aqualab stated, your front input connections consist of 3EA USB 2.0 and 1EA USB 3.0.
The USB connection on your case that has a blue color is the 3.0 USB input.
The other 3 USB connectors without the blue are the 2.0 USB inputs.
According to the specs at MSI's site for that board you have 1EA USB 3.0 header.
    And 1EA USB 2.0 header.
The "header" is just the designation term used to call the connection point.
Your motherboard will have a stamp at the connection pins that should say 3.0 USB and 2.0 USB.
If you have 2ea USB 2.0 labled plugs you may not be able to use them both being the motherboard doesn't have enough USB headers, no big deal, one plug will give you 2 USB inputs on your case. ( Perhaps they have them all under one plug? )
If the other plug doesn't say 3.0 USB follow the cable to the blue color USB input on your case. Plug that into the header on the motherboard that says USB 3.0.
As mentioned earlier, this information should be in the manual and we all have to had reread something to fully understand.
I hope I explained this ok.

There is no way to find out your IP address from a remote location. Its possible that your home hub has locked up, or your broadband line has failed.
Unless you can get someone to check at home, there is nothing you can do.
The home hub does not normally respond to a ping request anyway.

I've moved recently and I'm only getting around about 2MB download via my homehub.
    anyone else seen this issue?

hi yes that is quite possible your speed depends on the distance from the exchange you are so you may have moved further away from the exchange then you were before

  • Moved the "Connections" folder, now Dreamweaver CS3 can't find MySQL connection...

    Hi,
Dreamweaver creates a "Connections" folder in the site root
where all database connection files are stored. I want to move this
folder to another path but then DW can't find the connection (for
    example in admin/includes/Connections).
How can I tell DW the new path of the "Connections" folder so
I can still use DW extensions to find all available database
    connections?
    Thanks!

  • JDBC connection to Oracle 10g RAC periodically times out

I've been banging my head against the wall for months now and can't figure out why this is and what's causing it.
We have 6x CF8 servers in our environment. 3 of which work perfectly and the other 3 have the following problem. All 6 machines were installed at the same time and followed the exact same installation plan.
When I configure Oracle RAC data source, some of the machines time-out connecting to Oracle from time-to-time.
    Config:
Solaris 9 on both CF and Oracle
CF8 Enterprise with the latest updater.
Apache 2 (not that it's relevant)
6 machines, load-balanced (not clustered), identical install and configuration.
    data source config:
    JDBC URL: jdbc:macromedia:oracle://10.0.0.3:1521;serviceName=dbname.ourdomain.com;AlternateServers= (10.0.0.4:1521);LoadBalancing=true
    DRIVER CLASS: macromedia.jdbc.MacromediaDriver
    The problem:
Every few minutes, CF starts hanging requests that deal with a specific RAC only data source. After about 30 seconds, all requests bail and generate this error in cfserver.log:
A non-SQL error occurred while requesting a connection from dbsource.
Timed out trying to establish connection
This happens with any RAC data source on the "bad" servers while the "good" servers don't have this problem. The "bad" server doesn't have any problems with direct (non-rac) Oracle data source.
    Already tried:
Moving server connections around on a switch (rulling out bad switch port)
Copying driver from the healthy server (but it's the same installer anyway)
Changed from RAC to normal Oracle type data source - works perfectly. So at the moment I have 3 servers connecting to a specific oracle instance and the other 3 connecting to RAC.
Tried googling and searching forums and even Oracle metalink - nothing I could see relevant to this.
It's a shame that after spending a ton of money on CF8 upgrades and Oracle RAC, we can't really utilize fail-over on the database connection.
    Any takers?
    Thanks,
    Henry

  • SQL developer cannot see connection info from tnsnames.ora file

    Greetings All,
I have been using sql developer for a while. Currently on 3.0.04.34.
    I have 16 database connections.
Everything was working fine until yesterday.
Today when I tried to connect to a database from the list of connections I am getting following error:
Invalid connection information specified. Verify url format for specified driver.
When I pull up the property for this connection -connection type is still TNS, Netwrok Alias is now greyed out and what was in Netwrok Alias has shifted to Connect Identifier.
When I try to create a new connection I do not see entry from tnsnames.ora file for the databse I am trying to connect to in the Network Alias drop down list.
I can connect to this database from sqlplus.
Has anyone seen this behavior? Does any one know the fix for this?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Maybe your preference settings got corrupted, or the Tnsnames.ora file got moved to somewhere SQL Developer can't find it.
    Are you using either:
    1. Tools|Preferences|Database|Advanced|Tnsnames Directory, or a
    2. TNS_ADMIN environment variable
to point to your Tnsnames? Having one of those should enable the Network Alias drop-down list to get populated. Otherwise, if the values moved to Connection Identifier are correct, then you won't be to connect in that mode without also having an Oracle client installed with an 11.1 JDBC thick driver (ocijdbc11.dll).
If there is no issue with the Tnsnames. ora location, it might be a good idea to use Export Connections to make a backup of your connections. Then you can try deleting the connections from SQL Developer and re-importing them. Even if that doesn't fix the problem, you should be no worse off.
    Regards,
    Gary
