Moving old music to iTunes 9

Hey,
I recently got a new iPod, a new model 160gb. It requires iTunes 9. To move the music from my old one, an 80gb mostly with music loaded from 7 and earlier, I copied it. When I loaded it into iTunes 9, all my volume levels were set back. I've spent hours working on these, I really, really do not want to lose them. Does anybody know why this is and/or how I could fix it?
EDIT: It only does this to the m4as. The volume information is intact on mp3s.

  • Moving old music into itunes - How??

I have some music on my computer that I've had for a long long time, I want to put it into iTunes so I can have it on my iPad. How do I move it in? I've tried moving the files into iTunes, but they don't show up in my music list.
I saw something on the net saying to go to itunes preferences and to change something in there, but I can't open that either

In iTunes - File>Add to Library.

  • New Computer, Old Music and iTunes 6.0, etc... Help!

    This is a multi-part problem.
    1. The laptop that my music was stored on died a terrible death. I bought a new laptop, which is authorized for iTunes. I pulled the hard drive from my old computer and transfered all of my music to the new laptop. Now everything shows up with the at the beginning of the song. I get an error message saying that the "original cannot be found" even though the music was transferred correctly (and is showing up in iTunes).
    2. In installing iTunes to the new laptop, I ended up with v. 6.0. I got that wonderful "updatiing iPod" message. After being updated, iTunes reinstalled all of the music on my iPod, but also changed everything around. While my iPod shows up in my iTunes folder, the songs on mny iPod don't show up in iTunes.
    3. In addition to all of this, I can no longer transfer music to my iPod.
    Any suggestions?
    Lynn

    Lynn,
    1. I recently bought a new computer and even though I kept track of my data files, I did end up with a few !'s. Here's how to correct.

    2. I take it that you're using auto-syn. It may be that you didn't transfer you data files (xml and itl) which is why everything was changed around. Does it resemble any type of order? Here's a little more reading:

  • Moved my music folder, iTunes can't find it

My music is there, but iTunes can't find it. I created a new music folder on an external HD because of space issues. I have set the preferences to find the music folder at the new location, then consolidated the library.
I deleted the original music folder in it's entirety. Apparently, that's bad. Is there a way to re-create that folder? Or is there another way to make iTunes find the music in it's new location?
    Any help much appreciated.

If you deleted the original iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml files, you may need to re-load all the music. You should be able to go to File-Add Folder to Library, select the folder that holds all your music and have it re-loaded.

  • Can I reactivate old music from Itunes and if so how?

Can I reactivate lost music when my computer crashed? If so how?

    What do you mean reactivate?
You buy one and only one download.  it is your responsibility to maintain a backup copy of your computer - as has always been very basic.
If for some reason you have failed to do the very basics and maintain a backup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • I have just down loaded i cloud and I can no longer sync my own music from itunes I have tried to close my i cloud account and it wont close down?

I have just down loade icloud and can no longer sync my old music in itunes I have tried to delete icloud but it will not delete?

Are you sure that these times are still selected to sync in iTunes?
When you connect your iPad to your PC and with iTunes running, select your iPad under the devices button in the upper right corner of the iTunes window. Then click on the Movies tab and make sure that the movies are selected (checked) to sync. Check the playlists in the Music tab as well.

  • I finally moved from Android to an IPhone 5s, my question is can i upload my music from my old android to itunes and if so how?

i finally moved from the Android world to an IPhone 5s i was wondering if anyone knows how to upload my music and pictures from my old android to either a folder on my PC or to itunes on my PC itself so that i can then sync it all to itunes so i can have all my music from my old android(HTC EVO BTW) to my new I Phone 5s?

You add music to iTunes via the File menu item in iTunes. Click on File, then Add file to library, or Add folder to library. Once the music has been added to iTunes, then you can sync to the phone. Once you have added the files/folder to the computer, you can add them to iTunes. Not exactly sure how to get the music from the phone to iTunes, but I would guess that it has something to do with however you were managing your music on the Android device.
Pictures once imported to the computer, can then be synced to the iPhone via the sync process. Once you have connected the iPhone to the computer and iTunes, then select the phone in the device list, tap on the photos tab, and select what photo folders you want to add to the phone.

    Hello Sandy
You can transfer the purchases from your iPhone to your new computer by following the steps in following article.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

If you have music that was not purchased from the iTunes Store, then you will not be able to move it from the iPhone to your computer. Instead you will need to follow the steps in this article that helps with moving the library from the old to the new.

  • I am unable to sync new music. Reformatted I Pod now I can't sync old music either, either automatically or manually. Is it possible to download all music over again without being charged for it? I think the issue is I moved the location of my music

    I am una
le to sync any music from I tunes. The problem started when I could not download new music because for some reason I moved the location of the music. At least the e/m says I did. I don't remember doing that. I decided to reformat my I pod and now I can sync my old music either, manually or automatically. I was wondering if I can delete all my music from I tunes & start over with new downloads? Will I get charged again?

Ok, got new phone and it worked fine..at first. Now I am getting the same error. I also notice that the iphone goes from saying "sync in progress" to back to the home screen with the icons. And then I get the message "could not sync phone - device not connected"
I am getting seriously frustrated. The Apple tech support people have been ZERO help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes twice. I have even gone so far as doing a CLEAN install of OS X on my IMAC. Now I have the smae problems as before. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

  • I switched music from iTunes from my old laptop to my new one, but can't get the music to play

I seem to be having problems with my new laptop, specifically in playing music on iTunes.  I have a HP Envy using Windows 8.  I downloaded the compatible version of iTunes for Windows 8 and moved the music from my old laptop (Dell Latitude D830) to my new one.  I tried to play some of the music and after clicking play nothing happens.  I have also noticed that I seem to have difficulties running the program if I don't run it as administrator.  So if there is any advice anyone could give me I would greatly appreciate it.

    Most Windows users don't.
Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.
Buy TouchCopy and install it on your new computer, connect your old iPod and transfer your songs to your computer.

  • After moving my music library from my old mb to the new one, my new mb pro does not play the files evenly. It takes a break for two sec's and starts playback where it stopped. Ideas anyone?

I may have found an answer here:

They only thing I can assume is that my external hard drive was slow to start and iTunes defaulted to its old directory (see the last paragraph at the link above). However, once my external was recognized shouldn't everything have fixed itself?

  • Itunes does not identify old music contents on new computer -

I have moved "my music" contents from and old computer to a new one. Itunes does not recognize these contents.
How do I make them corelate?

If you use automatic syncing, you must set up the iPod's Music tab in iTunes so that the selection of songs includes all the songs you want on the iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  That is the Music tab, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
To use automatic syncing for songs, Sync Music is checkmarked.  You can choose to sync Entire music library, if it fits.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.
If you chose the latter, you create a selection of songs on the Music tab by selecting playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres.  For example, if you want that new playlist, it must be checkmarked under Playlists.  If you want to keep it simple, you can create a new playlist in iTunes and put ALL song you want on the iPod on that playlist (including that new purchased song).  Back on the Music tab, checkmark that one playlist.
When you Apply the change, your selection of songs on the Music tab syncs to the iPod.  If the iPod was not previously set to use automatic syncing, its existing content is replaced.  Going forward, any changes to the iTunes Music library that relate to the selection of songs on the Music tab sync automatically when the iPod is connected, or when you click Sync.  So, if you are syncing a playlist as your selection of songs, just update that playlist (add and remove songs), and the iPod gets updated with those changes at the next opportunity.

Please help me I have tried everything, I cant delete all the songs in itunes again...
    Thank you so much

    Helen,
If they are MP3s, you can simply add them to iTunes without conversion.
If they are in a format that iTunes cannot handle, you need convert them first, with a converter.
