Moving or Saving Tabbed Windows

Using Safari 1.3.4 on OS 10.3.9 and 2.0.4 on OS 10.4.7.
I noticed a feature in Firefox and wanted to know if it exists in Safari, as well as a feature I wish Safari had, or if it has, I'd like to know.
FF appears to allow you to re-order the tabs in a window. Can you do this in Safari? Also, can you copy/move tabs to another window in either FF or Safari?
Feature I would love to use is to be able to "save" or "checkpoint" a window and all it's current tabs (save current URI/L info, and maybe even history for each tab) as an export. So that a window can be open with tabs, and have those current items. Also, if Safari crashes, you can then "import" or "restore" the window with all the tabs from a list.
I'd like to be able to do this for all open windows, maybe even automatically, as an option so that when you restart Safari after a crash, it can restore the contents of each window, and it's tabs by reloading the specificed URLs to each tab.
There is a feature in Safari, that you can add a menu/folder to the bookmarks, and select to open the window in tabs. This MIGHT be how to do what I'm asking, although it does not appear to be automatic, although for windows I'd like to get back to on a regular basis, this might work.
Anyone know if this does what I want?
Thanks.

Hi reststop,
Most of what you described can be achieved using the third-party shareware plugin, Saft. It's not free and you'll have to pay for separate versions for Mac OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.x, but personally, I think it's worth the money. Other plugins might satisfy one or two of your requests, e.g. SafariStand, and I'd recommend trying them out to see which, if any, you fancy. PimpMySafari has quite an extensive list of popular plugins for Safari.

  • Firefox does ask about saving tabs/windows on exit but recently stopped saving them. When I start my computer the next time and click on "Restore Previous Session" it's not doing so. What can I do to correct this?

    See above question

Had this trouble myself, just did some research and solved it!
Go to the '''Help''' menu, go to "'''Troubleshooting Information'''"
On the new window, click "'''Open Containing folder'''" next to ''Profile Directory'' (This opens the folder on your PC where Mozilla stores some settings, like a tab history)
In the new Windows Explorer window, Find the file "'''chromeappsstore.sqlite'''"
You'll want to close Firefox and then '''delete''' that file (don't worry, Firefox will create a new one, and you won't even lose the open tabs)
Start Firefox again and the button should work!
(For completeness's sake, the profile folder for windows7 is: C:\Users\Tiberion\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\c6xu23fh.default\
where you replace Tiberion with your own username, and the random characters in the final folder will be different.)

  • Firefox not saving tabs/windows to reopen next session

Whenever firefox crashes, a page saying "Ooops this is embarrassing" appears, letting me restore the previous session.
However, ever since a recent crash, it hasn't appeared anymore whenever it crashes, and I lost all the tabs I had opened because of that. I tried forcing a crash multiple times and that page simply doesn't appear anymore, whenever I open firefox again all I get is my homepage.
But if it was only that... I have my firefox settings to reopen my windows and tabs from last time when it launches, but it doesn't do that anymore either...
Is there a solution for this?

hello, you appear to be using an out-dated alpha version of firefox - please switch to the more stable release version or firefox 33 beta which contains some improvements to session restore: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/

  • Saved tabs menu bookmark brings Safari window to unusable state

Saved tabs menu bookmark does not ask for user confirmation when navigating away from many tabs, and when the user returns to the previous set of tabs (note that this possibility isn't clear to the user), the entire Safari window reaches an unusable state.
I have a saved tabs folder as a bookmark item that is also present on the bookmarks menu bar. That means if I accidentally click on the saved tabs link instead of the address bar then my Safari session with all of the current active tabs disappears! I'd like to suggest that Safari presents a confirmation page when the user is about to change the state of more than one tab, just like it would ask for confirmation if the user were to exit Safari or close a window with many open tabs. By clicking on that single button nearby to the address bar, the entire window state is altered, not just the current tab. That's not my initial expected behaviour. On the other hand, it was also not clear to me initially that I could navigate back to the previous set of tabs when that state is comprehensively changed. So maybe the user can be informed about the ability to undo that action. For now, I will certainly be moving that set of tabs away from the menu bar, tucked further within the Bookmarks menu. But the problem that I have now is more than just a temporary unavailability of the old state.
When I accidentally navigated forward to that set of tabs, and subsequently quickly hit the back arrow button to revert to the previous state, Safari itself reached a point where the content of all tabs became unavailable. This sounds like it could be a kind of race condition where Safari needs to throw away cached information for the old set of tabs before it builds new cached information upon loading all new tabs. By aborting the process of loading those new tabs, maybe Safari assumes that the set of tabs is up to date, but the transition back to the old set of tabs doesn't appropriately trigger a reload and revert of the state. In any case the symptom is clear. When I switch between tabs in the problematic window, I continue to get completely blank screens even though I had many distinct tabs open in that window initially. It seems that to reproduce this problem what needs to be done is to have this set of saved tabs in a bookmark that is stored just below the address bar, and then to quickly navigate backward to return to the previous state. The more tabs in the current and stored session, the more this process may bog down Safari and expose this type of race condition. I also believe I may have also double or triple clicked that saved tabs button, which may invalidate the original set of tabs since the state for several sets of tabs might not be stored transparently by default. In any case I would like to recommend that Safari warn the user when this step takes place. The user could even be warned because they place a set of tabs bookmark below the menu bar, since they might accidentally click there. When this problem occurred, the other Safari window I had open had multiple tabs but this part of the Safari session was considered still working and the symptoms were not there. Yet the problematic window continues to experience the problem where all tabs are currently blank. I believe that I'll have to restart Safari to trigger the reloading of the pages, but I don't even know if that will be sufficient. I hope that this information is helpful.

Recommend to whom? Discussions is a user-to-user forum. You are just talking to other users. We don't write the applications so we can't change how they work.
If you have what you believe to be a product improvement idea, send it to Apple via the feedback URL. Posting it here is pointless.

  • Why did "Well, this is embarrassing" window open when no saved tabs?

No saved tabs when I closed yesterday, opened today:
"Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. ..." window appeared but only "Window 1" & "about:blank" (my preferred opening) on the list.
-- i.e. there were no tabs to recover.
    Why? Is there a problem?

  • Moving layers from one image to another in tabbed windows

I don't know if it's currently possible, but I've tried every which way.  But I have 8 adjustment layers I want to move from one image
to another in the tabbed window interface.  Once selected, COPY LAYERS is grayed out.  I tried to ALT + DRAG them to the image tab I wanted to move them to but it never focuses the tab and I cannot move the layers over.

Well if I knew the feature exists in one way or another, I wouldn't have posted it in the Feature Requests.  It was because it seemed to be absent that I did.
I enjoy a tab-less experience, however I abhor how PSCS5 handles non-tabbed documents in Windows 7 taskbar.  it opens a unique block for each open document you have.  So if I have 20 images open as I'm slicing up a design, I have 20 Photoshop CS5 blocks at the bottom.
I don't like the Windows 7 "Taskbar Grouping" because when you click on Photoshop, it doesn't just go to Photoshop like it should, it instead opens up a menu for you to then select Photoshop (and focus it as wanted) or select an open image.
These all seem to be steps backwards...

  • Why firefox loses my saved tabs when it starts?

My problem is pretty simple, it doesn't give me my saved tabs. I just get a blank tab. This happens a lot, maybe 5 times in the last 10 times I started firefox. An unbelievable problem that made me hate firefox and don't want to use it ever!
I don't know why I still insist on using firefox, I should've turned to use chrome or IE9.

If you use [[Clear Recent History]] in Firefox 3.5 and later to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

  • Prompting to SAVE while moving from one Tab to Another

    Hi !!
We are having the User entry WEB layouts where in the data entry layouts for different applications are spread on multiple Tabs .
However i want the user to be warned to Save the data on a particualr tab when he moves to the another tab for data entry .
I have explored the options enhancing the class CL_UPWB_BSP_APPL however in there how can i check that user is moving to new Tab and how to send a prompt for saving from there to the user.
Appreciate your interest and help in the matter .

    Hi,
i think it is not necessary to warn the user during leaving each tab cause a warning is standard if the user try to leave the BSP-Application with the exit-Button.
Please note that the planning-buffer is filled and not refreshed as long as they dont leave the actual planning session.
So it is enough to put one SAVE-Button on the top of the page, this will save all entries were made on different tabs.
    Bye Gil

  • Saving tabs and quitting isn't working

under the tabs setting in options there is no option to turn saving tabs on and off. i started firefox in safe mode to see if any of my extensions/addons had anything to do with it. i also tried renaming the two files for tab saving suggested by troubleshooting. none of the above suggestions from troubleshooting work.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
    <br />
    Another possibility is to use:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

You can try to restore a previous version of the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • Opening file in a new tab/window

    Hi,
I have a form (HTML added through a widget) and a number of images on one page. I want each image to be a link to a file, where the images will be seen full quality. however, doing this takes visitors away from the page instead of opening a new tab/window - then clicking back means that the form data is lost - i.e. tickboxes are no longer ticked, etc.
I cannot use the photo viewing page included in iWeb, as the pictures will then overlap with my form because the enlarged images are loaded on the same page.
I hope this makes sense, and if anyone could help with opening files in new tab/window it would be great, or a way of opening a photo viewing platform in a separate tab/window directly from a click of one of the photos. I have seen other sites - http://www.aroundthebusch.com/Folio/London%20to%20Istanbul.html
(this is not mine) where the photo viewing "platform" is IDEAL. I would love something just like this if someone could advise.
i do not want the photos to link to an external page (which can be opened in a new window) as it would mean me creating separate pages for each picture, and linking them all... no way!
Also, it would obviously be preferable to be quick to set up, but also to change. I would need to have multiple pages of many photos, each with the viewing facilities so it could not take a long time to set up. I may also need to add/delete some photos, so if all the linking work was done automatically it would be fantastic.
    Any help much appreciated,
    Thanks in advance, James

If you open it in javascript and specify a height/width or location it should open in a new window.
    window.open("http://www.adobe.com", "_blank", "toolbar=yes, scrollbars=yes, resizable=yes, top=500, left=500, width=400, height=400");

  • Authenication needed when moving or saving files to a folder

I've been online searching but can't find a resolution to disabling having to authenticate when moving or saving files to any folder.
I read something about using Terminal and tried the suggestion which was typing in
sudo chawn -R yourshortname . Then putting in my password when prompted. It either will not type my password or not accept it.
    Can anyone help? Thanks

You can't disable or correct it with that command. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1216618 for more information.

hyper link of public image(hyperlink or image) can not be saved on windows server 2012 and sharepoint 2010 problem, is this a bug?

It is not a bug, you might be using IE in Windows server 2012 and and browser might be restricting your site actions to respond properly.
Check this in a different browser or access site in a differ OS.

  • When I click on links in websites the links don't work unless I right click and choose open website in another tab/window. This is even a problem on the Firefox page.

When I try to open a link on any page/website Firefox does not open the link. It doesn't even "work" at opening the link, it just sits idling. I have to right click and choose "open link in new tab/window" in order for Firefox to open the link. It doesn't happen 100% of the time but happens especially if there is a button or picture that must be clicked. Simple text links seem to work more often then button or picture links. One example provided below. When you click on the "launch Jumpstart" button it will not open unless you right click & open new. This also happens from my Yahoo! Email account, on Facebook, Cructhfield.com and other websites with "button" related links.

I have the same problem but it appears that an add-on I'm using is causing the problem. Try opening Firefox in safe mode (which disables add-ons) Then try it. If that solves the problem, you need to disable all your add ons and enable them one by one to figure out which one(s) is causing the problem.

One solution would be to generate the report via an servlet which you then call with an af:golink with an target frame set to blank.
