Moving Oracle production support to Configuration Management

Hi All,
Currently I'm going as Oracle dba in production support team. I'm getting call from Configuration Management team as come to this team. I dont have much knowledge about CM. Now my question is
1. What is mean by Configuration Management? what is the process going on in CM in general ? Is it having any link with oracle dba support?
2. If I go and do Configuration Management work, again can I come to dba support field?
3. Is CM good for carrer growth...?
Pls clarify me. Thanks in advance.

Ultimately all job titles, all job duties are only and exactly as defined by the individual organization.
2. If I go and do Configuration Management work, again can I come to dba support field?Career movement is career movement. It is fluid and multideminsional. Or at least it should be.
3. Is CM good for carrer growth...?
Define "good". No education, no experience is ever wasted. At least not to people with the proper attitude about themselves and their careers.
Pls clarify me. Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle Production Support Roles and Responsibilities

What kind of issues comes and how to troubleshoot them?
I actually need to understand the nature of this job in detail and few interview questions that can be asked for this position.

In addition to Joe's questions regarding if you don't know the answer, then how do you know you want the job .......
    Regarding job titles:
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less."
(Lewis Carroll - Through the Looking Glass)
And so it is with job titles.  Any given job title means only and exactly what the organization chooses it to mean -- "neither more nor less".
Even though we work in a technical industry, not every term you see has a universal, fixed, immutable, technical meaning. Not even close.
My first two jobs in IT were in shops that had exactly the same set of job titles for Programmers --
    - Programmer/Analyst I
    - Programmer/Analyst II
    - Programmer/Analyst III
In one shop,  the Programmer/Analyst III was the most junior of the three.
In the other, the Programmer/Analyst III was the most senior of the three.
So, you tell me, what is a "Programmer/Analyst III"?  What is a "development DBA"?  What is a "production support DBA"?

  • Does typical oracle installation support intermadia configuration?

do i have to install oracle in the custom mode in order to have intermedia configuration, or it is already supported when oracle is installed as typical.
how can i know if it is supported or not?
    thanks.

No. It is not configurable at B2B as of now. As soon as request will be processed, FA will be sent back to the partner. Usually such use cases should be handled by back-end system but you may file an ER with B2B PD with strong justification why this feature should be available in B2B. If it gets approved, you may get this feature in B2B.

  • Solaris Container Support for Oracle Products

    Hi,
Is there a special list about which Oracle products support Solaris Containers? Or can I assume that all products support the container technology?
I cant find any related information on this...

We run Oracle databases and application servers without any problems.
In the licencing documentations zones are explictly mentioned as capped zones are supported to partition a system.
So if you have an eight-core maschine but give the zone only one, you have only to licence this core.
Have a look at this document
    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/partitioning-070609.pdf
As said before if your software does not need low level access to the hardware or the kernel (as eg. a backup server or a nfs server) it should run fine into a zone.

  • Configuration manager showing question marks???

    Hello,
I installed BI Applications Configuration Manager as a requirement for the complete installation of BI APPS. For some reason I get something like this all over the application:
    ???configmanager.welcome_title???
    ???configmgr.etlparams_text???
    ???configmgr.pkgconfig_text???
    ???configmgr.etlexec_text???
Welcome to Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Configuration Manager
This is just the homepage of the tool. The Manager is fully functional but as you can imagine it is quite hard to work with it since there are no 'normal' headings or links, or column names.
Has anyone had this kind of problem in the past?
    Thanks,
    Luka

Then there is no specific reason to have an additional DP for just one of the domains. As mentioned, site roles should be divided by locations. Clients use the network access account if needed -- trusts are irrelevant for ConfigMgr client management -- as
mentioned, ConfigMgr doesn't care about AD for management purposes..
Having said that though, you will need 5-10 DPs (given the supported number of client connections for a DP is 4,000).

  • Configuration Manager 2012 - Hardware Inventory/Software Inventory insert into DB

    Hello,
I have SCCM 2012 R2 with CU1, with multi site hierarchy. One stand alone primary site with few secondary sites beneath it.
Recently have noticed an issue with a few (100+) clients that we have Inventory issues. Although I was trying to find out the solution on my one for some time now it seems that it is over my head. So decided to ask for a tip or advice.
The issue is that for some reason 100 + clients do not update their Software/Hardware inventory. All clients are reporting well. The clients are sending the mif's back and they are being processed. The issue seems to be that for those 100 + the miff's
cannot be imported into the SQL. I am receiving errorcode_4 issue. By the posts I have found it is supposed to be SQL error with data being truncated for pINSTALLED_SOFTWARE_DATA. Any Idea on how to approach this.
I have tried reconfiguring Software/Hardware policies, reinstalling clients. Nothing helps. I have also tried to locate the installed app/software on the machines but no luck.
All Ideas on this are welcome.
    Regards, Luka

    Hello Torsten,
I have traced down the error to this event in the dataldr.log. I believe this is my actual issue. After this event there are plenty delta mismatches, which make sense as full inventory for machines cannot be imported.

  • Oracle Configuration Manager - EBS R12.1.1

    Hi ,
    EBS R12.1.1, on OEL 5.4
Is there forums for Oracle Configuration Manager?
I am trying to configure it, but as usual the docs is very topsiturvy.
Identifying If Oracle Configuration Manager Is Already Installed or Configured
Oracle Configuration Manager is included with many Oracle product lines. To verify if
it has been included, check for the presence of the ccr directory under $ORACLE_
HOME. If the ccr directory exists, you must verify whether it has been configured.
    ■ Navigate to the ccr/bin directory and locate emCCR. If emCCR exists, OCM has
       been configured.
    ■ If emCCR is not present under the ccr/bin directory, OCM has been installed but
       not configured.
If the ccr directory does not exist, Oracle Configuration Manager has not been
    included with your Oracle release.
Note: For the middle-tier of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12
installations, check for the presence of the ccr directory under the
    $INST_TOP/ocm/10.1.2/ and $INST_TOP/ocm/10.1.3/
    directories.
For the database tier, the ccr directory can be found
under $ORACLE_HOME.I searched the "ccr" at the apps tier:
    [appldev1@apps1 ~]$ cd /u01/appldev1
    [appldev1@apps1 appldev1]$ ls
    DEV1
    [appldev1@apps1 appldev1]$ find . -name "ccr"
    ./DEV1/apps/tech_st/10.1.3/ccr
    ./DEV1/apps/tech_st/10.1.2/ccr
    ./DEV1/apps/apps_st/appl/fv/12.0.0/mds/ccr
./DEV1/apps/apps_st/comn/java/classes/oracle/apps/fv/ccrAnd I searched the "ccr" at the database tier:
    [root@apps1 ~]# cd /u02/oradev1
    [root@apps1 oradev1]# find . -name "ccr"
./DEV1/db/tech_st/11.1.0/ccrWhy is that there are lots of "ccr" directories in the appstier?
And there is also existing on the dbTier.
Where should I install the OCR? in the apps tier or db tier or both?
    Thanks a lot
    MsK

  • Support for Software Configuration Management(SCM) Tools

    Hi!,
I am using JDevloper for my project.
I want to maintain the versions of all files in the project. Also,if all are using one Workspace on network and someone updates a file then message box got dispalyed asking for reloading buffers again.
So to avoid this and maintain versions I want to use Software Configuration Management (SCM)Tools. So does JDeveloper supports for SCM tools? If yes kindly tell me how to use it?
    Thanks
    Amit

    Hi,
The upcoming release of JDeveloper (3.2) has support for SCM. In this release, support has been integrated with Oracle's own SCM product, Oracle Repository. In future releases, other SCM products (e.g. CVS) will be supported.
When JDeveloper 3.2 is released (should be available at the end of Nov / start of Dec), the installation guide will have full details on how to install the Oracle Repository and use the SCM integration in JDeveloper.
In 3.1 or earlier, a custom addin exists for JDeveloper that can be used to support SCM systems (see JDeveloper documentation on OTN). However, this is not as tightly integrated as the new SCM support coming in 3.2.

  • Oracle Configuration Manager Server is unavailable (500)

I have a few targets that report configuration to My Oracle Support using Oracle Configuration Manager.  Everything was fine until last week, when I noticed that the Last Collection Date wasn't changing.  When I try to manually collect, I get the following error:

    Collection and upload failed.
    E:\>
Anybody else experiencing this same problem?  If so, any ideas how to fix it?

Turns out this is expected, as Oracle is rolling out a database upgrade.  This notice is posted on MOS:
    Configuration Data in Read-Only Mode
We are making improvements to the database that holds configuration data for My Oracle Support. During this upgrade, the Customer Configuration Repository (CCR) is currently in read-only mode. You can view configuration data, but will not be able to upload new configurations or change configuration-related systems attributes. The CCR will remain in read-only mode until the planned My Oracle Support outage completes this weekend.
While CCR is in read-only mode, you will see an error message:
In the related log file during an automatic attempt to upload a new configuration or for offline Collector users who upload their configuration as a Service Request attachment.
On pages within My Oracle Support that access the configuration data
       Primarily under the Systems tab
Sometimes within Patch recommendations and Health Checks
When the CCR returns to update-mode after the outage, your last successful upload will remain in place as the benchmark for determining differences with the current configuration. The next collection you send will update your configuration and then becomes the configuration used for comparisons.
Please file a non-technical Service Request or contact Oracle Support if you need help or have additional questions.

  • Is Oracle Configuration Manager Available for Hyperion Planning Servers?

The "My Oracle Support" site (https://support.oracle.com) describes the values of installing the Oracle Configuration Manager on servers.
Question: is this available for the Hyperion products or just Oracle databases? If available for Hyperion products, does it add value to tech support?
    Any comments would be appreciated.

    John
This is partially correct. If you user12136418 are looking for a way to monitor health automatically and get access to web ex session technical support from one console OCM is a great tool. The fact that it is not a thick client in nature nor a windows service makes it ideal for having agents monitor network traffic SNMP and still have all hyperion health monitored without having to run a tool like SCOM. I have been waiting for this tool for a year . Now if only Hyperion would work with IE8. But we all can not have egg in our beer.

  • Moving Configuration Manager Database to a Different Drive

    Hello,
Is there a way to move the Configuration Manager database to a different drive in the same machine?  We are using Configuration Manager SP1 and SQL Server 2008 R2.  We are running out of disk space in drive C:  Please advise what would be
the possible solution for this.  Thanks so much.
    Regards,
    Joann

Yes, follow the SQL Server documentation for moving database files.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345483.aspx
In general, I have an easier time when I have stopped the ConfigMgr services and the IIS websites first.
Usually, then I will run the "Relocation for Scheduled Disk Maintenance" procedure.

  • Oracle Configuration Manager - No database target

    Hi,
i've installed the latest version of the oracle configuration manager (10.3.3.1.0) in my database home and ran the installCCRSQL.sh script successfully against the database instance.
Unfortunately i don't see any database instance target in the metalink system section nor if i run the "emCCR disable_target" command. A "Host", "Oracle Home" and a "Oracle Configuration Manager" target are available.
For the installation, i set the following environment variables:
    ORACLE_CONFIG_HOME=/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1
    OLDPWD=/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/ccr/bin
    ORACLE_SID=MIST
    ORACLE_BASE=/oracle
    TNS_ADMIN=/oracle/admin/network
    HOME=/home/oracle
    ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1
I'm running oracle enterprise linux 5.4 and oracle database 11.1.0.7.
Can anyone tell me why I don't have a database instance target?

  • Version and Configuration Management in Oracle Portal

    Hello ...
How is version and configuration management applied to real-life, large Oracle Portal applications, where e. g. both development, test, and production environments are used?
The build-in version management in Oracle Portal is inadequate for such environments.
Any suggestions, opinions, ... on this matter would be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Poul

In my opinion, Portal has a lot of work to do in terms of configuration and change management. If you are using Portal as an application platform, as opposed to KM, you are better of developing java portlets, so that you can use the SCM with JDeveloper and stay away from the application components. If you do want to use the components, then application export/import is the only way. You can setup your own procedures for handling the exported files (version etc).
You don't really version KM apps. Content is meant to be posted and otherwise administered by content area admins and users. It is not a "application", that must be change managed. There are versioning features available at the item level, which is adequate (but by no means a complete versioning system. Use iFS if you want that).
I have heard quite a few horror stories about exporting and importing content areas.
A 3-system Portal landscape, in my opinon, is overkill and trying to fit an existing approach to a new tool. A test/dev and a production Portal might be more palatable to the IT budget.
    My 2.5 cents

  • Oracle Configuration Manager (OCM) and Software Configuration Manager (SCM)

    Hi
Has anyone been able to install OCM(Oracle Configuration Manager, v 10.2.7) and
successful upload new Software Configurations to Metalink 3?
We have managed to download the OCM software (version 10.2.7), version 10.3.0 does not seam to be available
although it is the default suggestion from the download manger for the
    "Oracle Configuration Manager Family" products.
We have also been able to install the OCM software in out Windows 2003/Siebel 8.0 development
environment. The connection to Metalink/Oracle configuration server even trough a proxy is
looking fine. We even get confirm/success message for the upload.
The only problem is, we don't event one day after doing the upload, see the new
    configuration in Metalink 3.
Has anyone else been able to get this to work?
    Axel

We got the configuration upload to work today and it did show up rather fast on Metalink 3. What we ended up having to do, was to install the software twice on the server once in the c:\sba80\gtwysrvr and once in the c:\sba80\siebsrvr directory.
If you are behind a proxy remember to use the -p parameter when calling setupCCR.
