Moving Photo's around

Hello all,
I'm a recent user of PASE and am quite pleaesed with it. I have a query though.
I like to view my photo's in the style of Folder view (where they are saved to my pc). But I'm unable to drage photo's from one folder to another. The pictures all display very nicely as Thumbnails but they refuse to drag and drop into other folders.
For instance when I download photo's into one folder I'm not able to move them to another location.
I'm not fussed about dragging and dropping but would like to know how to move the photo's to another folder.

There is no direct way to do this. However, you can try the following steps:
- Select Edit->Preferences->Email
- In the Send Email using list, select "Other (Save to Disk)", set the path where you would like to move the images, and click OK to close the Prefences window
- Press Ctrl+Alt+3 to arrange the images in the photowell in Folder Location order
- Select the images that you want to move.
- Select Share->E-mail
- Check the Include Tags with Photos option
- Select the Individual Attachments option
- In Size list, select Leave As Is option and click OK
Now all selected images will be moved to the folder that you specified in the preferences.

No, reordering within folders and albums is not supported. the yare arranged automatically by date. I found this, but I have not used any of the apps besides iPhone. You might check the descriptions to see if they do what you need.

Moving Photos Around

I'm having trouble moving photos from my computer to my iPhone and deleting photos from my iPhone Photos album. I've done it before, but don't remember how. I've tried using iTunes, but that wasn't the answer. What am I forgetting to do here?

iTunes does not store photos, but you use iTunes to transfer photos from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.
if you use iPhoto on your Mac for photo storage, create an iPhoto album or multiple albums, and place the photos you want in the album or albums.
Under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences, select iPhoto for sync photos from.
Choose selected albums and then select the iPhoto albums available in the window below that you want transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync.
To add additional photos to your iPhone, transfer the photos to an iPhoto album that is currently being transferred to your iPhone, or create a new iPhoto album and select the new album under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.
To remove an entire album from your iPhone, deselect the album under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync. To remove select photos from an existing album that is transferred to your iPhone, remove the photos from the photo album in iPhoto followed by a sync.

I believe Frank is referring to the end use (e.g., for print or on-screen use).
Until he returns, I can tell you that I ran a quick test using an image from the Aperture 3 training book library which was as follows:
Camera = Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Master resolution = 5616 x 3744 (21 MP)
I was able to export to a JPEG with end file size of 1 MB as follows:
Export Presets drop-down > select 'Edit' option
Selected preset name 'JPEG - 50% of Original Size' > change percentage value to 40% > change DPI value to '300' > click OK to set as current default > Export version to desktop.
The exported JPEG has a resolution of 2246 x 1498 and appears on screen to have the same image quality of the original in Aperture.
Note - I did not change the default Image Quality slider in the Export Preset dialog (which left it at 10).
Basically, you will need to play around with the settings until you find the appropriate values to arrive at an image version you want.

Moving photos from one iPhoto library to another

Is there a way to move photos from one iPhoto library to another? I tried to use export, and that puts the photos in the other iPhoto library (I can see the photo if I open Hard drive>user>pictures>iPhoto Library but when I open iPhoto it is not in that Library's library.
If I have not made myself clear, please ask and I'll try again.

I love using iPhoto but this is a real drawback.

I have bought an external disk so i can free the space on my laptop by moving photos and now I have to buy some software in order to do that??
You don't have to buy it. What's more the free version of iPhoto Library Manager will move up to 20 pics at a time. And the paid version is only $20.
BTW: you can run an entire library from the external disk:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I moved the mobilesync path where my backups should be stored. However, since then I moved some folders around which I think is the source of my error. I can no longer backup my iphone. How do I fix this?

It sounds like you are unable to backup your phone after moving the mobile sync folder from its default location. If moving it back manually does not resolve the issue, I would next use either of the following articles to remove iTunes from your computer and then re install it. The articles outline the proper order to remove them in, and step by step instructions:

How do I free up space on my C drive by moving photos to a separate hard drive on the same pc?

I need to free up space on my C Drive by moving photos to Seagate expansion (H) drive. Currently use Windows Vista and elements 11 where I have organiser containing folders and albums which I want to keep intact after the move. Photos are currently held in C:users, valued customer, pictures. I’m pretty ignorant on how to do this but have tried to read and follow the FAQs and previous advice and think I have some understanding(!) I have made a catalog back up onto a separate Seagate expansion drive (F) and although the files appear to have been renamed as ‘B0000001’ for example, I believe this is normal and I can also see a backup.tly and a catalog.buc file so I’m assuming the backup was successful. I think I need to take the following steps;
1. drag and drop the folders containing my photos from the C drive into the (H) drive. (Does this have to be completed one folder at a time or can they all be highlighted and dragged and dropped in the same action)?
2. As I’m not changing computer then I’m assuming I don’t need to restore the catalog?
3. At this point I won’t have deleted anything off the C drive so how do I ensure the catalog establishes links with the photos that are now on the (H) drive if they’re still on the C drive?
4. Once I know the photos are safely on the (H) drive and all links to the catalog have been established I’ll take a new backup of the catalog onto the separate Seagate expansion drive (F)
5. Do I need to take a separate backup of the photos which are now on the (H) drive?
6. I’ll then delete the photos on the C drive.
7. In future any new photos I take and import into Element 11 organiser, I’ll save on the (H) drive.

Yes, the renaming is normal and the fact you can see a backup.tly file is good. However, even if you are 99% sure that the backup is ok, the only way to be 100% sure would be to restore somewhere else... (being somewhat paranoid!)

Dragging a master folder also drags its subfolders, no problem.

No, no need to do that. When you move (by drag and drop or the move menu) the organizer automatically updates the catalog.

The drag and drop procedure really moves, that is to say : copies the files to the new location AND deletes the files in the old location. Note that if there is a problem in the file transfer, the original files won't be deleted. The transfer of big libraries can require several hours. That happened to me with a power outage at 95% of the process. The files already copied stayed on the new computer, the original files were not deleted and the database of the catalog rolled back to the initial situation as if I had done nothing. So dragging and dropping is safe, at least on recent PSE versions.
4. Once I know the photos are safely on the (H) drive and all links to the catalog have been established I’ll take a new backup of the catalog onto the separate Seagate expansion drive (F)

6. I’ll then delete the photos on the C drive.

If you take a new backup, it will include all the files recorded in the catalog. If you still have pictures on your C: drive, and possibly others on other external drives, everything will be backed up. You can't specify a backup for images in a given disk, only for all images in a catalog. For instance, you can move only a part of your images on your C: drive. You can add pictures in the drive you want, C: or H:

Using iPad 2 photos and have not found key to organizing or moving photos from one album to another existing album

With ipad2 I have been almost successful in moving photos from the stream or roll to separate albums. It takes the commands but does not allow last step. What am I missing?

If you are wanting to copy photos from your computer to the iPad then you need to select all the folders that you want to copy together in one go - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are removed by not including them in the next photo sync, so on each photo sync you need to select all the photos that you want to remain on the iPad. So you will only do one photo sync to copy them.
So when you connect the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes, on the right-hand side on the Photos tab you need to select the parent folder under each those 100 folders are directly under - each of those 100 folders will then get their own album on the iPad. The folder to album relationship only works to 1 level i.e. if those folders have sub-folders in them then their photos will go into the parent's album on the iPad

Moving photos between projects

I'm having a problem - erratically - moving photos from one project to another. When I select one photo & drag it to a different project - the entire project gets moved instead of just the one selected photo. (I've double checked that there are no photos selected before I select the photo that I want to move.)
If I cancel the move, I end up with missing thumbnails & sometimes missing photos.
This is erratic because sometimes dragging one photo to another project works.

It is really hard to tell what might be happening - we need more details:
What is your Aperture version? The most recent Aperture 3.4.1?
Are your images referenced or managed? Raw or jpegs?
How did you edit them? With Aperture or an external editor?
Do you create new versions when editing and stack them, or edit the current version?
And after moving to a new project, the preview of the version shows the original master, but the thumbnail shows the original edits? Is that correct?
I Suspect, when you moved the images, they lost their previews. As a test, duplicate an image version (Photo > Duplicate Version) and force the generation of a new preview (Ctrl-click, hold down the options key ⌥, select "Generate Preview"). Does that bring back the edits? Also you could try to export the image version ans see, if the edits are still there.

How can I move pictures from a photostream to a album? do i need to move them to the camera roll first?

Moving photos first to the camera roll is the only solution to moving photos to an album...a bit time consuming if you have many photos.

Yesterday I was able to take photos but around 9pm last night my rear camera stop working. I have reseted my phone and have also restored it and the camera still is not working. Also I have deleted all apps that can have access to the camera.

How to? Please...I cut and paste items, it is removed from iphoto for a few seconds then they appear again.

The photos that are appearing on the mini - are they photos taken with an iPhone or iPad? If so, open System Preferences on both computers and select the iCloud tab. On the mini, click the Photos checkmark off and on the MBP click the Photos checkmark on (if it isn't already), then start iPhoto and select Preferences. Select the Photo Stream tab and make sure Photo Stream is on.

Why do my photos move around when I save an image from email so difficult to locate the new saved image

I believe the default is for them to order themselves in 'date taken' order. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do to change that. It's the default in the photos app and users can't change it. You can try looking for a third party photo app that may have more functionality. Afraid I can't recommend any since I've never looked for them but I'm sure someone can.

Moving plugin windows around causes spinning beach ball.. 8.0.2 near???

last q. for now...how come when moving plugin windows around in logic it can sometimes cause the dreaded spinning beach ball?? you think logic is going to crash but it doesn't, it recovers and then runs real sluggish... logic or leopard bug??? i can't wait for 10.5.2 to see what it magically fixes in logic!! any hope that we might have 8.0.2 in the near future...there are all these other updates floating down from cupertino but yet logic seems neglected...

When I bought my Mac Pro, there was an issue with the video cards; if you wanted to run 2 x 30" ACD's, then you had to up the spec to a more powerful card. The guy in the mac shop assured me the GeForce 7300 GT that came with the machine would be sweet enough for 2 x 23's... and it was. But that was with Tiger. (?)
Is Leopard &/or LP8 graphically more demanding than Tiger &/or LP7... I wouldn't have a clue? Does anyone have an opinion on this? (I'd be REALLY interested!) Are the cards shipping with these machines really up to the job of running the OS AND something as complicated as LP8? My opinion is; They SHOULD be.

But then, if it's a problem with underpowered graphics cards, I don't suppose it matters how many cores you've got... does it??? Thanks for your post... again, really USEFUL information. I only get this problem when I open anything UAD; it runs happily in the background but out comes "the ball" whenever I open & move more than 1 instance of a UAD plug. Haven't once had it happen with Logic or 3rd party AU's.
