Moving Photos Around

I'm having trouble moving photos from my computer to my iPhone and deleting photos from my iPhone Photos album. I've done it before, but don't remember how. I've tried using iTunes, but that wasn't the answer. What am I forgetting to do here?

iTunes does not store photos, but you use iTunes to transfer photos from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.
if you use iPhoto on your Mac for photo storage, create an iPhoto album or multiple albums, and place the photos you want in the album or albums.
Under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences, select iPhoto for sync photos from.
Choose selected albums and then select the iPhoto albums available in the window below that you want transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync.
To add additional photos to your iPhone, transfer the photos to an iPhoto album that is currently being transferred to your iPhone, or create a new iPhoto album and select the new album under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.
To remove an entire album from your iPhone, deselect the album under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync. To remove select photos from an existing album that is transferred to your iPhone, remove the photos from the photo album in iPhoto followed by a sync.

  • Moving photos around in an event

I was reading some other posts but want to make sure I've got it straight. I've been wanting to move some photos around in an event and now my understanding is that I CAN'T do that. I cannot move the photos around in the event but will have to create an album of that even and then move the photos around in the album. Is that correct?

the EVENTS are a 'list' or Library of any import into iMovie, listed in chronological order.
the PROJECTS now allow you to 'sort' and arrange any content from that Library - in total or just parts, in any order and as often as you like (=same lip again and again or in as many projects you like).
understanding this concept of iM comes to conclusion: you can not 'move' any content in Events.
you don't 'arrange' Events, you arrange Events or parts of it on Projects.
have you read the Tutorials of iM?

  • Moving Photos around  inside an "Event"

I am having trouble moving my photos. I would like to have a certain photo at the beginning, so it will show in the Event window, I would like to be able to put the photos in ANY order I like within the Event window . When I try to do it in "Photos" I lose what Event it belongs in .
In the Photos section, is the only way to organize the headings by the year??
Also it seems that iPhoto is slow. When I move the BlueBar to move thru the Photos In the Photo mode I have to wait for the photo headings to catch up with my Bar movement & start moving the bar again so that I know where I am......It seems to move fast enough when I am moving thru the Events in the same manner. I hope my explanation is not to confusing. Any help would be appreciated . Thank you, Warren

first this is posted in the iPhoto 06 forum but since you discuss events I assume that your question is about iPhoto '08 - If I'm right, it would be better to post it there - http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=227 - to avoid confusion and answers that do not apply to your situation
The SLOWness you are seeing is probably caused by viewing your library in photo view with no event titles - this causes a lot of extra processing as you open iPhoto and as you scroll through the photos - turning event titles on or going to event view probably will improve your scrolling speed a lot (as you have noticed)
I would like to have a certain photo at the beginning, so it will show in the Event window
This is easy - event view place your mouse over an event and move it sideways until the photo you want as the "event Photo" show up - let loose of the mouse and hit the space bar -- or open the event, select the photo and go to the events menu ==> Make key photo
I would like to be able to put the photos in ANY order I like within the Event window
You can not - events are displayed time based - you can make albums and put them in any order you want
You can manually sort the library in photo view with event titles turned off (but as you see that makes things slow)
But you can not "put the photos in ANY order I like within the Event window" -- that is the way iPhoto is designed and the way you have to use it
To request enhancements go to the iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback

  • Moving photos around  within imovie project

I am creating a slide show using imovie and when I imported the folder from iphoto, it rearranged all the photos. Is there an easy way to move them around within the project? I'm using imovie'11 for the first time.
    thx

You can drag them in the iMovie project to wherever you want them.
Also, if you drag in from an iPhoto event, it seems to import in chronological order or something. However, if you create an iPhoto album, you can arrange the order in the album. When you import the album into iMovie through the iMovie Photo Browser, it will retain the order of the iPhoto Album.

  • IPhoto'08  Moving Photos Around Inside Events

When I open up an events window and want to rearrange my photos by dragging them, they snap back to their original positions. How do I keep this from happening?

Marc - welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
When I open up an events window and want to rearrange my photos by dragging them, they snap back to their original positions. How do I keep this from happening?
You can not except by changing the photo times (Photo menu ==> adjust time and date -- or -- Photo menu ==> batch change ==> time and date) - events are a very basic time based view of your library and have limited flexibility
In photo view if you turn off "show event titles" you can manually order photos but this is not a great way and with a large library can created significant loading speed problems
The best way is to use albums which are infinitely flexible in both content and order - select the photos you want to play with and use the File menu ==> "make new album from selection" entry - in the album you can move photos to your heart's content - to add to an album just drag photo to it

  • Need help moving photos to external drive

Hi, all--here's hoping one or more of you Aperture veterans can help.
Here's my situation: I'm not new to photography, but I'm new to Aperture. Just bought 3.3 and still getting to know what it can do. I'm an emigre from iPhoto, and one of the reasons I upgraded within Apple is that I was tired of the non-intuitive nature of PS Elements. I like to take pictures, not spend endless time in the dim glow of a screen digging through sub-menus for stuff, and from what I read, Aperture seemed more intuitive.
But now I've got a seemingly very basic problem that hours of poring over discussion threads and searching through the hundreds of pages of the manual has done little to address with any clarity:
How do I move (not just copy) older photos in projects to external drives, but in such a way that Aperture still keeps track of them, even when the drives are not connected? (The Aperture marketing I read/viewed clearly said Aperture could do this, and I'm running out of space on my MacBook Pro (15" from about 2008, running Lion) with lots of CF cards piling up.)
    Info that may help:
-I need to move not just original (imported into iPhoto directly from the camera) photos, but also those I've adjusted in Elements, then re-exported into iPhoto (I would say "and now into Aperture," but as you know, there's no longer an import process b/w iPhoto and Aperture).
    -I shoot mostly RAW.
-I have no idea whether the pictures are "Referenced" or "Managed" (for space reasons, I have yet to import any files directly into Aperture; all existing photos are from iPhoto, and if I was given an option when I set up Aperture, I don't now recall it).
-I have external drives with plenty of space to move older pix to (I also have multiple backups, including Time Machine, additional external hard drives, and DVDs)
Can somebody who knows how to do this safely please explain in clear language how to move photos as projects onto external hard drives so that Aperture keeps track of them via viewable thumbnails, even when the photo files themselves live on a hard drive that is not connected at the time?
    Thanks in advance!

    First things first:
You can easily check if an image is managed or referenced by ctrl-clicking on an image version and selecting "Locate referenced files...". If Aperture says "No Referenced Files", your originals are managed by Aperture and stored within the library itself, otherwise it should show you the location of the original, and give you some options to verify the references and so on. I don't know which method is used when importing from iPhoto.
Now, here's something you need to ask yourself:
Does it make more sense for you to keep the library on your laptop and the originals on an external drive, or does it make more sense to move both the library and the originals to the external drives?
In the first case, you can open and look at the thumbnails, but there's not a whole lot else you can do with your images when the external drive is off line.
If you have vast amounts of originals, spread across multiple drives, it might make sense to keep the library on your laptop and connect whichever external drive you need at the time. However, it might also make more sense to split such a huge library into mutiple libraries, stored with their respective originals (which could be either managed or referenced).
In my case, it makes sense to keep multiple libraries, with managed originals, but your mileage may vary.
Here's a tip that might help you decide: A small library is quicker to navigate and work with than a huge one, although performance has improved vastly with later versions of Aperture.
Once you have decided on the appropriate organization, you can start moving things around (after you've created the appropriate backups):
If your library contains all managed originals already, and you want to move the entire library off to the external drive:Simply drag and drop the library itself (using Finder) to the new location.
If your library use referenced originals, and you want to keep it that way, or your library manages your originals, and you want to start using referenced originals:
    Select all your images
Click on the File menu and select Relocate Originals...
Locate the destination for your originals, and pay special attention to the "Subfolder Format" and "Name Format". I'd suggest choosing "Project Name" and "Original File Name" for the two.
Click on Relocate Originals, and twiddle your thumbs while Aperure moves all your originals to the new location.
If your library uses referenced originals, and you wish to let your library manage the originals:
    Select all your images
Click on the File menu and select Consolidate Originals...
Decide if you want to Copy or Move the originals into the library. If you're running out of space, it might be best to Move.
Click Ok, and wait for the operation to complete.
(Optional) If you wish to move your entire library to the external drive, drag and drop the library to the new location.
I hope that answers your question.

  • Problems moving files around in finder

Does anyone else have the same problem I do when moving files around in finder. It almost always says you do not have sufficient access privileges and each time I have to go to the destination folder info box and change access permissions. It is now getting really annoying. At work I can not copy files off my laptop to the network as again it says I do not have permission though if I log on from a machine using tiger I can move the files easily. Moving files to my Lacie drive causes the same problem. If anyone out there has and easy fix or explanation I would be grateful

I decided to go the long way and move everything where I wanted it to be.  I moved everything around in Bridge, I then synchronized the folder to reflect how it should.  So far so good!
Thank you all for your help and interest, I really appreciate everything!
I do have one more question now, I will also start a new thread to see what else I can get, but again thank you!
I have syncroniced the folder after making the changes, and due to the problem I was having last time I did it again just to double check.  It said there were over2k photos missing so I clicked sync, let it do its thing.  And just to tripple check I ran it again and it is saying the same thing, missing over 2k photos.  What does this mean?

  • Moving files around in LR5

I have imported everything from my external hard drive in LR5 so I can access all of my photos and move them around to organize them.
I started the organization process and moved files around in different folders via LR5 and I am happy with that.
I then noticed when I looked at the folders that should now be empty on my hard drive (viewing via Finder) the photos that I have moved in LR5 are still where they originally were when I look at the hard drive in Finder.
I want the organization that I did in LR5 to be exactly the same when I look at the files and folders on said hard drive in Finder.
I hope this makes sense and I hope someone out there is able to help me.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Finder hangs when moving files around in Flash Drive

Hello Apple Community! I just wanted to ask a question and a solution to my experience on OS X.
Recently, I started to experience Finder hanging on me when I move around files from in and out my flash drive.
What's happening in the picture was me trying to move the ebook into the 'cmpsci3' folder, but Finder hangs from the point.
I moved the Finder window and the icon just stays there.
There is nothing really wrong with the movement of files; the moving does work. The problem is that the small file operations
window disappeared and Finder just hangs there.
    I tried two solutions already:
         1. Remove the com.apple.Finder.plist file from ~/Library/Preferences
         2. Repair disk permissions on both OS X drive and USB03FD (my flash drive).
Unlucky for me, the problem isn't fixed. I tried to tackle the problem myself and sometimes I see two Finder processes running
in the Force Quit Applications dialog. I followed the instructions from this threadTwo Instances of Finder Running, but that does
    not work either.
I looked around and saw that making a new user would fix the problem. I would like the community's advice on how to fix this problem
    before I do anything drastic.
Thanks for reading and helping me out!

  • In addition to wanting to know how to move photos around on ipad , i also want to know how to delete photos

In addition to wanting to know how to move photos around on ipad , i also want to know how to delete photos

Photos that were synced from your computer can't be deleted directly on the iPad - they are deleted by moving them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing, and they should then be removed from the iPad.
You also can't alter the order of photos in the Photos app, the sorting needs to be done on your computer prior to syncing : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221

At the moment no, you cannot move photos between albums in the Photos app directly on the iPad - but with iOS 5 (which will be free to download) in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device.

  • Moving photos from one iPhoto library to another

Is there a way to move photos from one iPhoto library to another? I tried to use export, and that puts the photos in the other iPhoto library (I can see the photo if I open Hard drive>user>pictures>iPhoto Library but when I open iPhoto it is not in that Library's library.
If I have not made myself clear, please ask and I'll try again.

Is there really no other way than via third party software??
Yes there is, detailed above: export from one, import to another.
I love using iPhoto but this is a real drawback.
    Wow, really?
I have bought an external disk so i can free the space on my laptop by moving photos and now I have to buy some software in order to do that??
You don't have to buy it. What's more the free version of iPhoto Library Manager will move up to 20 pics at a time. And the paid version is only $20.
BTW: you can run an entire library from the external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How do I free up space on my C drive by moving photos to a separate hard drive on the same pc?

    I need to free up space on my C Drive by moving photos to Seagate expansion (H) drive. Currently use Windows Vista and elements 11 where I have organiser containing folders and albums which I want to keep intact after the move. Photos are currently held in C:users, valued customer, pictures. I’m pretty ignorant on how to do this but have tried to read and follow the FAQs and previous advice and think I have some understanding(!) I have made a catalog back up onto a separate Seagate expansion drive (F) and although the files appear to have been renamed as ‘B0000001’ for example, I believe this is normal and I can also see a backup.tly and a catalog.buc file so I’m assuming the backup was successful. I think I need to take the following steps;
    1. drag and drop the folders containing my photos from the C drive into the (H) drive. (Does this have to be completed one folder at a time or can they all be highlighted and dragged and dropped in the same action)?
    2. As I’m not changing computer then I’m assuming I don’t need to restore the catalog?
    3. At this point I won’t have deleted anything off the C drive so how do I ensure the catalog establishes links with the photos that are now on the (H) drive if they’re still on the C drive?

Yes, the renaming is normal and the fact you can see a backup.tly file is good. However, even if you are 99% sure that the backup is ok, the only way to be 100% sure would be to restore somewhere else... (being somewhat paranoid!)
    I think I need to take the following steps;
    1. drag and drop the folders containing my photos from the C drive into the (H) drive. (Does this have to be completed one folder at a time or can they all be highlighted and dragged and dropped in the same action)?
Dragging a master folder also drags its subfolders, no problem.
    2. As I’m not changing computer then I’m assuming I don’t need to restore the catalog?
No, no need to do that. When you move (by drag and drop or the move menu) the organizer automatically updates the catalog.
    3. At this point I won’t have deleted anything off the C drive so how do I ensure the catalog establishes links with the photos that are now on the (H) drive if they’re still on the C drive?
The drag and drop procedure really moves, that is to say : copies the files to the new location AND deletes the files in the old location. Note that if there is a problem in the file transfer, the original files won't be deleted. The transfer of big libraries can require several hours. That happened to me with a power outage at 95% of the process. The files already copied stayed on the new computer, the original files were not deleted and the database of the catalog rolled back to the initial situation as if I had done nothing. So dragging and dropping is safe, at least on recent PSE versions.
    4. Once I know the photos are safely on the (H) drive and all links to the catalog have been established I’ll take a new backup of the catalog onto the separate Seagate expansion drive (F)
    5. Do I need to take a separate backup of the photos which are now on the (H) drive?

    Thanks.
If you take a new backup, it will include all the files recorded in the catalog. If you still have pictures on your C: drive, and possibly others on other external drives, everything will be backed up. You can't specify a backup for images in a given disk, only for all images in a catalog. For instance, you can move only a part of your images on your C: drive. You can add pictures in the drive you want, C: or H:
