Moving Photos to a new folder in Lightroom 1.3.1 using Mac OS 10.5.1 Doesn't Work

I use an iMac with OS 10.5.1 and Lightroom 1.3.1.
First, I successfully imported the photos from my Epson P-2000 to a folder (Germany) which I created as part of the import into Lightroom (for File Handling in the Import dialog I used Copy Photos to a new location and Import).
Next, I created a new folder (Berlin) using the Lightroom folder panel and dragged some photos from the Germany folder into the new Berlin subfolder. Although the photos appear in the Berlin subfolder, they are still also in the parent, Germany folder.
Also, I would have thought that I could select photos and then use the Edit menu's Cut and Paste commands to move the photos. But even though I have selected images in the Grid view, these commands are grayed out.
I don't want to copy the photos - I want to move them. And I did not think that the same photo could be in two different folders. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you seeing this only in Lightroom? They are not 'still in the parent, Germany folder.' only visible their if you have 'Include Photos from Subitems' checked in the Menu/Library of Library.
Uncheck that you you will only see them in their correct folders.

The way I do it is through iTunes. First you have to have to import or already have the photos in your computer where you have iTunes and sync your phone. When you have your phone connected and iTunes open click on the iphone under "devices" in the left sidebar list - then over to the right select Photos then Sync Photos and probably best to check selected folders unless you want them all, then choose the photo folders you want. You have to have your photos in folders for multiple folders to be created in your phone, the names will be the same as the folders in your computer. Alternately you can sync from one of your photo programs if they are listed as options and they will go to the phone in the structure you have your photos in in that program.
Hope this helps... There may be other ways and other third-party programs for doing this but I haven't looked...

I researched a bit and found that I SHOULD have deactivated and uninstalled CS4 from my old Mac. I've now done that.

My situation is a little different. I am hoping you can help me with it. I hope I am not violating any protocols by asking you specifically? A year ago I reinstalled my Mac's operating system. My CS4 is on my computer under "Previous System." I am unable to open it from there and I do not want to attempt migrating it for reasons noted above. I did try to reinstall it as you suggested to hbrady67 by dowloading from CS4 products with my serial number but I got this message: "Upgrade Check We looked in the default location for qualifying products installed on the machine, but none were found. You may verify upgrade eligibility now by completing the fields to the right. 1) Select a product you already own. 2) Enter a serial number for this product. CS4 wasn't in the list of selections. The protocol suggested won't work for me since I am not doing an upgrade but trying to reinstall what I already have. Can you direct me on where to go/what to do? Thank you very much. Bergi.
I found the solution to this problem. I was able to download the trial version of what I have and enter the serial number from there. However, it still asked for a serial number from previous software: "your setup is for an upgrade version of Adobe Creative Suite 4." (I entered the serial number that I have for CS2. How do I move photos to a new folder without it showing in the original folder

I am trying to rearrange my iPhoto 11 folders. Every time I move a photo to a new album it stays in the original folder. If I delete the photo it is gone from both the folder and the album I created. Is there a way to do this. I am trying to separate pictures taken on my iPhone.

First off since we can only communicate via words using the correct words is critical
Folders in iPhoto do not hold photos - folders hold albums or other folders
Albums hold photos
Events hold photos
Alnums and folders are used to organize photos
Alnums are really just pointers to photos in events so any change mad eto a photo in an event, in photo view or in any album it is in is reflected everywhere
If you want to move phots between albums simply drag them
If you want to move photos between events flag them in teh source event and teh select the destination event and add flagged photos to selected event

When I import photos straight from my SD card tp Elements 10 I have been naming a new folder for them but they are going into sub folders of the last file that I had open. How do I stop this & how do I make move the sub folders into a new folder of it's own. Thanks

Are you using Adobe Photo Downloader to download and import photographs from a SD card? Make sure that option 'Create SubFolder(s)' has value 'None'

When I try to drag images into a folder, the folder isn't selected. I've tried creating a new folder. Didn't work. Made the folder a subfolder of the project and a stand-alone folder. Still didn't work.... Help!

What do you want to achieve?
Folders are structural items to group projects, albums, books, slide shows.
You can drag images to other projects, to albums, to books, slideshows, but not to folders.
To move images to another folder, you move the project containing the images to that folder.

Can new folder be added into a war using jar commands?

Hi All,
I am working on an installer creation attempt to make some changes on a war at the client side to inject my changes into it. As a result i am in need to modify the war using jar commands and have found some success.
I user the following command.
D:\MyWarLab>jar uf webtop.war customThis command helped me in adding my changes inside a folder named 'custom' placed at location 'D:\MyWarLab' into the 'custom' folder inside my 'webtop.war'.
Now this worked as expected since the 'custom' folder was already present inside the war.
Now my next step is to inject a new folder named 'customA' inside
webtop.war ->WEB-INF -> classes -> com -> application. This customA folder would contain the java class files i have created.The customA folder does not already exist at the above mentioned location, hence the need to create it.
I have not been able to find a jar command to add new folders at desired locations of the war.
Could you please validate my attempt and suggest a command to fulfil my requirement.

If you mean other folders then you need to create them in your email client e.g. in a browser (which you can only do in IMAP accounts, not POP account) - you can't create new folders in the Mail app itself

How do I get photos to show in my collections folders after moving photos to a new location?

After exporting my main folder to a new location along with the .lrcat and .lrdata files, along with my backup files, all of my collections folders show zero images in them. I need to somehow link these files together to get my collections back. The pnotos are there, just not showing in the collection folders.

Whats the simplest and most easily mainted method for storing files? Do folks dump them into one huge file and then sort with Lr collections or do they import into smaller files AND sort with collections.
I would like to back up the mess I have and use collections but not sure if there is an efficent way to do so.
I believe that sometimes you are using the word "file" to mean "folder"
The simplest and easiest way to manage files is to use the default import mechanism in Lightroom, which is to put them into folders by capture date. This takes zero effort on your part. From that point on, you NEVER move them, how simple is that? (there is one exception which I shall explain in a minute) and then you use Lightroom tools ... keywords and other metadata, to allow you to organize and search.
Backups are accomplished by making a backup of both your catalog file and all of your photos.
The exception to never moving your photos is when you need to move them to a new hard disk or new computer, then of course you should move them.

Hi all. My PSE10 is now working a treat after all the help I got from the forum so I thought I'd ask you knowledgeable chaps another question to save me buggering things up!!
My original HDD is full to capacity. I have purchased and installed a second internal HDD which I intend to transfer all my documents, photos, videos and music onto leaving only programs and the OS on the old HDD and creating a bit of space.
How can I transfer my whole library over? Should I do a restore? Will it ask me where to restore to so I can tell it to my new HDD? Can I then just delete all the photos of my old drive? Is the move option better? Just want to avoid a world of pain when I do the swap!

The benefit will be the transfer of the catalog to the new disk. You'll save the disk space taken by the catalog : simply locate the catalog as stated in my previous post and look at the disk space taken by the catalog folder. I do not see any significant disadvantage in moving the catalog.
