Moving Photoshop Elements & files from Windows XP to 8.1

After a major upgrade of my pc I temporarily have PSE (10) on a drive running on an XP platform, with all my photos on a separate "data-drive".
Question:  How can I best make programme and files work together on my new Win8.1-platform/drive without loss of data?  In short:  Where do I start, and how do I proceed?  Can I simply install PSE on my 8.1 drive and then connect it to my PSE catalog, and if so: how?

If your media files are already on an external drive, the question is where is your catalog? It can be on the default location on your internal drive, or it can be in the external drive if you have already moved it there.
In the last case, you simply plug in your external drive to the Win8 PC, install PSE10, and from the organizer you use the catalog manager to browse to the custom location of your catalog : the folder containing the catalog.pse10db file. You can also double click on that file to open the organizer with your catalog.
If you have PSE11 or 12, you'll have to use the organizer menu to convert the catalog to the new format.
If you are in the usual default location of your catalog in the old internal drive, locate it via the menu Help / System info. Copy the whole folder containing the catalog to the external drive, just under the root letter, not inside a folder containing your image files. Once you have copied it, see above.
Of course, doing a full backup is always a good idea.
Note that when you have recovered the catalog in the new PC, the catalog and images are shared between both PCs. Both can access your catalog. If you are not interested to share your catalog, you might prefer to move or copy the catalog back to the default location on the internal drive of your new PC. You'll have more speed. The organizer catalog manager has the option to move the catalog back to the default location.

  • Moving Photoshop Elements catalogues from a PC to a Mac

I have created several photo catalogues on my PC using Photoshop Elements 7. I have now moved to a Mac computer. I have imported my photos tom my new computer, and into iPhoto. However I would like to continue organising and editing them with Photoshop Elements. To this end I intend to purchase the Photoshop Elements for Mac software. However if I do this how to I move the catalogue (and stack details) for my photo collection to the Mac? Grateful for some advice.

And presumably once i have checked everything has imported correctly, i can then delete those photos in iPhoto that I now have duplicates of in my new Mac PSE folder? This would then provide a sort of safeguard on the transfer process. Will all the stacks, catalogues etc. in the new Mac PSE file be the same as on my old PC PSE file? As I have a lot of very old family photos from the early part of the last century i have numerous edits of each photo. These all appear separately in iPhoto. Presumably they will appear stacked as one photo in my new Mac PSE file? Apologies for these aggravating little questions but I want to make sure everything will be OK before starting the process.

  • "Edit in Photoshop Elements" missing from windows context menu.

How do I get the "Edit in Photoshop Elements" back in my context menu? I think what happened was that after installing PSE 13 I uninstalled PSE 12 and that may have removed the context menu item. Just guessing. Is there a way to add it back without re-installing PSE 13?

Right click on a photo file of the type that you will want to open in PSE. In the context menu, mouse over Open With to open the menu. Select "Choose default program" and in the window that opens select PSE 13 if it appears in either Recommended or Other. If it isn't shown, choose Browse and navigate to the PSE 13 .exe file in Programs/Adobe/Photoshop Elements. If you want files of this type to always open in PSE when double-clicked, check the box "Always use the selected program". If you want PSE 13 to only appear in the Open With menu, be sure the box is not checked. Click OK.

  • Possible to update photoshop elements 8 from windows to Mac platform?

I currently own photoshop elements 8 for the windows platform.  I now need to use this on my MacBook.  Is it possible to use my current serial number to download the installation or do I need to repurchase the product?
It seems that later versions of Elements come with compatibility to install on either platform but this isn't the case with mine.  I have one install CD for windows xp/vista/7
    Thanks

No. For PSE 8 serial numbers were not cross platform. You could buy a crossgrade from adobe, but you would still have to pay the upgrade fee on top of the processing fee since adobe only ships the current version. So there's no point.

  • Moved my Raw files from Windows to MAC - did they automatically turned to JPEG???

Very new to the MAC!!!  I just loaded Elements 6 for the MAC on my new Macbook Pro.  I had
about 500 photos that I transferred from my old PC via USB drive to the Mac to Iphoto.  They were shot RAW+JPEG.  When I open them, it appears in Iphoto that I really have 2 jpegs - on my old PC I have two files per photo - A blue PSE and a Jpeg.  What transferred to Iphoto is 2 JPEGS that are basically the same size as their Windows counterparts - 9 MB and 2 MB, respectively.  They both have JPEG extensions and when I open the large one in PSE6, i get the regular PSE6 menu - not the RAW options for adjusting WB, temperature, histograph, tint, exposure, etc!!!  Am I a complete Moron????  I think so!!!  I was expecting to have this all work like my PC?  Basically - what is going on, where are my raw files and converter and what do I need to do to work on raw files on the MAC??????  Thanks and I am really enjoying this computer.  But getting the cross platform transfer from Adobe was a ***** (10-12 calls over 10 days  - and cost $28!  Thanks for any help

I knew you would come to the rescue, Barbara!!!  And you are right!  I do have CR2 files on the PC and I drag/drop them to the USB drive - where they stay CR2.  It is in the importing to IPhoto that IPhoto turns them into JPEG (I notice when the CR2 file goes over, for a millisecond - the resolution of the thumbnail gets a little less sharp - so I guess that is what is happening).  At any rate, when I just connected the USB drive and dragged the CR2 file to a folder on my MAC and opened it with PSE6 - all was perfect!!!!  It opened with the RAW converter!!! - YOU are absolutely right!  Iphoto doesn't know how to handle RAW. So, I guess that is how I will transfer over RAW files from my PC.  BTW - in Image Capture - it was set to "no application".  Should I keep it that way and just import files from my Canon 40D (which will come over from a card reader) to a temporary desktop folder?  Thanks again!!!!

  • Moved photoshop elements 9 from a failed imac to a new one.

It will not activate. Error code 6. The error message also states "de-install and re-install". App is inert. Nothing works. What is my best move?

For activation problems there is a specialist Chat service at http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html. They should be able to reset your code on the spot.

  • Transfer from Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 on Windows XP to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 on the Mac.

I want to transfer from Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 on Windows XP to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 on the Mac. My problem is I have lost my catalog and Windows XP.  I need help.
I have installed the newest Mac version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 (PSE 12 Mac) and it seems to work fine but I have not been able to access my old (XP, PSE6) catalog file.
I am working on a MacBook Air running OSX version 10.9.2.  I have been using Parallels Desktop 9 Switch-to-Mac-Edition™ to run Windows virtual machines.  I had been working for over a year running Photoshop Elements 6 on Windows XP virtual machine.  The XP operating system was updated to 2/28/14.
When I installed Windows 8, the Parallels program initially offered me a choice of virtual machines, Window XP or Windows 8.  I could use the XP version to work with Photoshop Elements 6 as before and thought I could be leisurely about transferring my Photoshop operations to the Mac side.
However, without my knowingly doing anything to dispose of Windows XP, I have “lost” Windows XP.  Perhaps it occurred when I updated to Windows 8.1.  At any rate, now I have access only to Windows 8.1.
To compound the problem the Time Machine backup program for the Mac was not backing up the XP virtual machine files as I had thought.   I have since corrected the settings but I do not have a copy of Windows XP nor of the Adobe Photoshop Elements catalog which I used in the past.
Moreover, I do not have a workable Windows XP disk; the only one I could find is from Dell and it does not load on my MacBook Air.  I see Windows XP disks offered by Amazon for about $30 and have thought about buying a copy to help see if I could  accomplish the transfer of the catalog file to my Mac.  I would use XP only to accomplish this transfer.
I am not completely confident that reinstalling Windows XP would actually enable me to do the transfer and I can foresee potential big problems. Therefore, before taking that step I thought that I would check with you to see if there is a way to find the catalog file and perhaps to modify it so that I could work in the Mac Environment.
I have used Elements to improve and organize over a thousand travel and family photos taken with a pocket size digital camera.  Being a nonprofessional, I have edited mainly by cropping and using Quick Fix but have many hours invested.  Yes,  I still have the originals and probably could have redone much of that work with the time I have invested in trying to find the missing XP and catalog.
I have found two large HDS files (Windows XP.hdd and Windows XP (2).hdd) that were created 7/15/12.  I suspect they may be important but am not sure what they are.   I read that HDS files are commonly Windows media digital rights management files, DRMs.   HDS files may also be used by hierarchical data systems.  Do the names suggest anything about Photoshop?
Can you help me find the catalog and transfer it for use with the Mac Adobe Photoshop Elements 12?

  • Complete uninstall of Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements 9 from Windows 7 64 bit

I purchased Photoshop Elements 11 and Primere Elements 11.  I am manually uninstalling Photoshop and Primere Elements 9 before installing ver 11.
I went through the Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs to do this.  The process completed, but the following problems remain:
    1. Entries for Photoshop Elements 9 and Primere Elements 9 are still in the list in CP - Add/Remove Programs.  Re-uninstalling from there brings up Windows Installer msg " This action is valid for products that are currentlly installed"
    2. Entries for Photoshop Elements 9 and Primere Elements 9 are still in the Start Button - All Programs.
    3. The entries for the uninstalled programs are not listed at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    3. I could delete the folders pertaining to Photoshop Elements 9 from where the files were installed originally.  However, when I try to do that I get a msg saying that I need permission from SYSTEM to do that and the delete fails.
A gazillion folders and files remain in D:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 9
    4. The only entries in Services.msc for Adobe are for Acrobat Update Service and Flash Player Update Service.
So, obviously, the uninstall did not complete properly.
How do I manually remove all traces of Photoshop Elements 9 and Primere Elements 9 from my system?  Does Adobe have any automated tool to do this?
    Thanks.

  • Is there an instruction sheet detailing how to install Photoshop Elements 13 (from a DVD disk), on a Windows 8.1 computer, and if so, where do I find it

Is there an instruction sheet detailing how to install Photoshop Elements 13 (from a DVD disk), on a Windows 8.1 computer, and if so, where do I find it?

Googled for an instruction sheet.  Got the following.
    https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/getting-started/install-pse.html
    and
    https;//helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/photoshop-elements-installation-errors.html
(Don't know why the second one didn't turn into a link, that's the url that printed out at the bottom of the page)
In any case it doesn't matter.  I returned it to the store where I bought it.
Rule #1; Don't use a product if the people who produce that product (software, hardware, etc.) don't properly support it.
User forums and\or chat lines, are useful and may help.  But!  They do not constitute proper support (not for installation purposes anyway).

  • Due to Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer I uninstalled the program.  When I re-installed Photoshop Elements 12 on the same computer the "Photoshop Elements 12.0.exe" file is not available.  I have tried loading Photoshop Elements 12 from the Adobe web site

Due to Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer I uninstalled the program.  When I re-installed Photoshop Elements 12 on the same computer the "Photoshop Elements 12.0.exe" file is not available.  I have tried loading Photoshop Elements 12 from the Adobe web site without success.

The Elements 12 shortcut can't find the Elements12.0.exe file so the program will not load.  I can load the editor from its .exe file but not the organizer.

  • Adobe Downloading Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 MultipleLanguages Windows  The Akamai Download Manager has encountered an fatal error: File not found.

I am trying to download the trial of PSE 13 which consists of two files. The first downloads ok but on the second I get this message:
Downloading Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 MultipleLanguages Windows
The Akamai Download Manager has encountered an fatal error: File not found.
Same thing happens if I try to download the files individually and also in different browsers. Any ideas?

Me three.   I have been trying for hours, and have used three different browsers.
I have just noticed that the URL it is trying to use is looking for ...win32.exe under a directory called win64. That sounds like a stupid typo mistake.  I manually modified the URL to this instead (and it downloaded something)...
    http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/PSE/13/win32/PhotoshopElements_13_LS25_win32.exe
Now I just need to figure out how to install the product manually using the two downloaded files!?!

  • Problems installation Photoshop Elements 8 on Windows 7

I tried to install Photoshop elements 8 on my Windows 7 computer, but the installation gives a failure after a certain time. A file "...cab" is not working and may be corrupt ( exact failure code I can give, if necesary). Is there any possibility to get this file or the program Photoshop Elements 8 as download file so that I can complete the installation? Thank you in advance for your answers.

    Hello,
I just got the same problem already some time ago when I tried to install this programm in my computer. At that time (March 2012) the program crashed my computer, I had to reinstall all the Software completely including system software. The program I purchased in December 2011 from Amazon together with a Reflecta crystal Scan slide scanner as bundle, so I thought it will work.
I will try to install the program from the download link you gave me, in case it does not work, what can I do next without having to buy a newer version?

I am curious did you have this installed previously or did you just purchase a copy of Photoshop Elements 8?

  • Missing Camera Raw Dialog Box in Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows.

    Hello,
I have Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows. This runs on a 32-bit Windows Vista VirtualBox virtual machine.
It has been running fine, but suddenly opening raw Nikon images no longer opens the Camera Raw Dialog box, but takes me straight into editing on Photoshop Elements.
I really like having the Camera Raw Dialog box open as I do most of my image processing using this before opening the resulting file in Elements.
Does anyone know how to get this box back, or to open it from within Elements?
I have tried opening the images from within Photoshop Elements using the "Open As..." mnu item from the File menu, and the selecting "Camera Raw" as the image type, but it still opens without the Camera Raw Dialog box.
    Thanks very much.

Check your screen resolution settings for vista.
I believe the screen resolution needs to be at least 1024 x 768 for the camera raw dialog to show in pse 8.
For example, if instead of running VirtualBox full screen, your running it in windowed or seamless mode and made the window smaller by dragging on the corner, that would automatically lessen the screen resolution in vista.

  • W do I transfer Photoshop Elements 9 from my old computer to my new one?

I want to transfer Photoshop Elements 9 from my old computer to my new computer running Windows 8. I don't need to transfer photos. Just the software. Is this going to be a pain?

no problem, just re-install pse 9 onto your new computer and activate with your serial number.
if you no longer need the original pse 9 installation, deactivate it (help>deactivate) and then uninstall it.
if you need the installation file for pse 9 and if you follow all 7 steps, you can dl a trial via one of the links on this page:  http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-9-premiere-elements-9-direct-download-links.h tml
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a dl problem, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  typically, failure to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 is the problem.

  • Can't copy some files from Windows 7 to Mac OSX over network

    Hi,
I'm running the latest version of Max OSX v10.8.4 on a brand new Macbook Pro.
I have followed the setup instructions at http://www.7tutorials.com/how-change-workgroup-mac-os-x-easy-networking to access my Macbook from Windows, and http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/24950/how-to-share-a-folder-in-os-x-with-windows/ to share some folders from my Macbook to Windows.
I am now trying to copy some files from my Windows 7 Pro (SP1) computer to my Mac, and have hit the following problems:
I can view my Macbook in my list of local networked computers on WIndows, but I cannot access it. Clicking on it causes Windows 7 to try and access it, but then I get a message after a minute saying the network path could not be found. However, if I manually enter the IP address of my Macbook in the Windows address bar (\\192.168.0.191), I can view and access all the shared folders. I can never access the Macbook via it's computer name (\\MACBOOK-ROB).
I cannot copy some files from Windows to my Macbook shared folders via Windows. There is nothing to distinguish these files from the hundereds of other files that I have successfully copied to my Macbook. They are pictures and music with no special characters in the filenames, not overly long filenames or folder paths, no access restrictions, or any other security restriction that I can see. However, every single attempt to copy these files to my Macbook results in WIndows reporting that access to the destination was denied.
I have tried both these above scenarios on WiFi and Ethernet, and the results are the same.
    So:
Why am I unable to access my Macbook by it's computer name on the network? How can Windows see it, but not access it?
What are the limitations on transferring files over SMB that is (presumably) causing these specific files to fail?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have a fix for inability to copy files. I had the same problem moving a lot of old files across my LAN from a Windows XP machine to a Mac Mini running Mountain Lion. After confirming copy of some special file, I would get an error that terminated the copy operation, and info on the Mac side would show a locked folder.
I finally decided to eliminate all special files on the Windows side, before copying, by running
         attrib -s -h -r /s /d [drive or folder]\*.*
in a command window. Running attrib /?  tells what the arguments mean, but it doesn't explain that you need the *.* to make the command go through the hierarchy clearing the special attributes on all the files.
After I did that, and then used drag and drop between two Windows Explorer windows (one on the Windows drive, on on the target drive on the Mac), the whole move operation ran to completion without stopping either for error or to ask for confirmation.
I do not have a fix for the inability to access some computers by name rather than by IP address. I'm looking into the possibility of activating bind on the Mac but I haven't done anything yet.
