Moving pics from a pc to mac - keeps locking up

I recently made the jump to Mac from a pc.
I have about 10,000 photos ~ 22 GB and I have them stored on a external HD, firewire.
About 8,000 of the photos are in one folder b/c I used adobe photoshop album to store and sort them. It worked great until this transfer.
Whenever I try to drag and drop, the computer may get through a few hundred and then the black screen appears and tells me to hold the power button down to restart.
I called tech support, but they said that when too many files are dragged over this will happen. I have to break the files into about 100 photos per file and then drag each folder over.
You do the math, I don't want to do that.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Please?!

  • Where did my pics go ??? Transferred pics from memory card to Mac Pro and lost pics on memory card and unable to find on Mac

where did my pics go. Transferred 40-50- pic from camera memory card to Mac via  slot; lost pics on memory card and unable to find anywhere in Mac. May have gone to Open Office as Data . Is that possible and if so can I get pics back or if not so ,where could they be????

First place to check is in the iPhoto library. If the images were imported there then they will be visible in the previews created.
The physical location of image files in iPhoto is quite buried in folders within folders. So, if you want to copy them then select all of the ones needed from the previews and copy from iPhoto to a new location, preferably a new folder in the Pictures folder.
The other app that might have transferred the files is Image Capture. It would download files from cards or cameras. Launch this app and look in the preferences to see the default location of transferred files.

  • Moving pics from file manager to albums?

    Hi guys
Im getting so fustrated with this. This seems simple but i dont know why I cannot do this
I have pics from my computer which it lets me copy to my phone, but it wont let me copy it from my phones memory to an album? I try and just drag and drop the picture to an album in my phone but it wont let me
Can anyone help or tell me whats going wrong here
    thanks

You don't say what phone you are using, but I'm guessing it's a recent S60  smartphone.
You can't drag/drop into albums because the albums are not folders on the memory, they are databases. The only way to add them to albums is to get them to the phone, then go through "Photos" or "Gallery"*, select the photos by going Options>Mark/unmark>Mark multiple**, then select Options>add to album and select the album.
You cannot normally add files into the Download or Captured albums, they are usually reserved for the phone to use for images downloaded from the internet or from messages, and captured with the camera.
*The name is sometimes different depending on model
**if your phone doesn't have the mark multiple option, you'll have to select files by going Options>Mark/unmark>Mark

  • Moving pics from folder to iPhoto?

Since my drag and drop is not working can I move pics from a folder to iPhoto without it? I have managed to navigate to iPhoto for uploading pics on eBay or Craigslist, but I have to have them in iPhoto first as I can't seem to navigate to folders I have on the desktop. I usually just drag pics from folders to the desktop for uploading as that seems to be the easiest method without massive navigation skills. lol Or must I just take pics again? I deleted them from my camera for more room after importing them to folders.

I'm happy that worked for you!

  • Moving iTunes from Windows to a Mac... for multiple iPods

I have just bought a new MacBook Air, and am facing a problem of how to move my current iTunes over to it!
The main problem is that I currently have 3 different iPods on the go (shuffle, video and iPhone) all with different music on them. At the moment I have managed to put an iTunes library for each of them on 3 different windows laptops/computers, but as I'm off to university I would ideally like to put all 3 libraries on my new MBA.
Has anyone got any advice on how the best way is to do this? Would a separate hard-disk work for moving the music over from Windows to Mac? Also I have no idea how you create 3 separate iTunes libraries on one MacBook!
    Thanks in advance

The easy answer is to just drag and drop all her music files into the new iTunes Library on her new 12" PB.
Get them on media (CD/DVD) or however you want. My favorite method is to get both systems on the network, drag copies to a temporary folder on the desktop. Then the PC is out of the loop. And you have not commited to a MOVE or DELETE of the source at this point. Then, drag and drop the temporary folder into iTunes. As long as it is setup properly, iTunes will COPY the files as added, and ORGANIZE the files and folders for you. After all that, delete the temporary folder.

  • Moving files from PC to a Mac?

I bought my first Mac notebook and would like to transfer my PC stuff to it...I purchased "one-to-one". whats the easiest way to do that?

I would definitely recommend going into the store and having them show you how to do, or if you are more comfortable at home then use the phone option, because if you are trying to figure out how to do something on the computer while using the instant message feature, it is hard to keep switching back and forth while using programs; in addition, you may need to restart your computer and then you lose contact with your agent.

  • I used to be able to pull photos from my iphone into my itunes but something has changed. I dont remember how I did it before but I think an option is missing. Does anyone know what the process was for moving pics from your iphone to your itunes?

I cant download the new iTunes soflware on my PC because I have not yet been able to sync my photos from my phone to my itunes. If I update to the new software on my pc, for some reason I can't then update my phone software. What Ive had to do the past few times is go the the Apple Store and have them load the new iTunes on my phone for me but then that means I lose all my pics. I dont remember how I used to get my photos from my phone to my itunes but i know i used to be able to. I think I lost some of my options. Does anyone know what this could be?  PS: I have the iphone 3g and Windows XP on my PC

Refer to this article under section 4: Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed

When importing catalogue from lr4 to new install of lr5, are there any traps for the unwary?

Just to be clear, your title speaks of "moving", there is no moving of photos involved in this process.
Your text speaks of "importing", there is no importing of catalog or importing of photos in this process.
Your LR4 catalog will be upgraded the first time you launch LR5, that's really all there is to it (you probably have to click Yes or OK when Lightroom asks if you want to upgrade)

  • Moving contacts from Outlook 2007 to Mac Address Book

    Hello all,
I've tried to email VCard attachments of contacts from an Outlook 2007 / Exchange Server account so I can import them into my MAC Address Book. When I look at my sent folder in Outlook, the attachment shows a VCF attachment. When I pick up the email on my MAC using Mail, the attachment always comes back as WinMail.dat which the Address Book doesn't recognize.
Furthermore, I've tried sending the VCard to a Yahoo email address and download the attachment. That worked fine.
Was wondering if someone could help me isolate where the issue may be. Thanks.

If Outlook Express provides for exporting contacts in vCard format, you can send all contacts as vCard attachments to a message sent to an email account you access with the Mail.app. Save the vCard attachments from the message to a created folder on the Desktop and then use the Address Book import feature selecting vCards.
If OE does not provide for exporting contacts in vCard format, it should provide for exporting contacts as a tab-delimited text file.
The Tiger Address Book includes a Text File import selection/option.

  • How do I transfer all my pics from iPhoto on my mac to iClou

Hey guys I need a little help... How do I transfer all my pics and videos from my macbook pro to icloud? Doesn't all of our pics get photo streamed automatically into iCloud?

Only the photos that are taken by the phone are backed up to iCloud.  Pictures in your iPhoto library are already on your computer for safekeeping.  There would be no reason to have them in iCloud.

  • Moving pics from ipad to ?????

My wife has an ipad 2 and most of her memory is filled with pictures she transferred from her camera. I'd like to move the pictures to another storage place, but all we have for a computer is a pc. Can I move them to the cloud? If so, what's the easiest way to do it?

You will have to use the normal way to delete photos i.e. holding photos down for a second or two and tapping the "X" to delete.
If photos were synced from your computer then it can't be deleted directly on the iPad, you will need remove/de-select it from where you synced it from on your computer and re-sync.

Could I not just put them on a USB stick and connect that ?
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
