Moving pics from folder to iPhoto?

Since my drag and drop is not working can I move pics from a folder to iPhoto without it? I have managed to navigate to iPhoto for uploading pics on eBay or Craigslist, but I have to have them in iPhoto first as I can't seem to navigate to folders I have on the desktop. I usually just drag pics from folders to the desktop for uploading as that seems to be the easiest method without massive navigation skills. lol Or must I just take pics again? I deleted them from my camera for more room after importing them to folders.

I'm happy that worked for you!
And Thank You, for extending the courtesy, of awarding in Discussions, as this is not a requirement, nor mandatory, but is much appreciated!

How do I get pics from Preview into iphoto?

While you are viewing a photo in Preview, and want to import it into iPhoto, select the document icon in the toolbar of the preview window and drag this icon onto the iPhoto icon in the Dock or in the applications folder.
    For example:

  • Downloading pics from camera to iphoto

i down loaded pics from my camera [canon 500]and every thing performed correctly-the #of photos appeared, the pics displayed as they downloaded,i clicked the import button, but when the pics were thru importing they failed to appear in iphoto...
i must have clicked some button by mistake and now the pics are somewhere in my imac...
how can i retrieve them [if they are in my imac]?

Let me take this opportunity to get on my soapbox to recommend what I think is a safer way to upload photos from a camera to the HD and then into iPhoto.
I use a card reader and upload to a folder on the desktop. I name the folder with the date of the shoot and a brief description like: 12/25/06-Xmas Day Dinner. I then rename the files with R-Name so that they are uniquely identified. This prevents getting the same file name on multiple photos if the camera resets itself back to 1 each time after reformatting the card.
I then import that folder into iPhoto which gives me a roll with the same name as the folder. Once I'm sure the photos have been safely imported I delete the folder from the desktop. I then use the camera to reformat the card for the next shoot.
More work, yes, but it insures safe transfer to iPhoto.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • After transferring about 7 pics to a desktop folder, the last pic kept duplicating even when I highlighted another pic. I can't delete or move any pics from folder. I can not drag a new pic into folder.

Can not drag a pic from aperture onto desktop folder. was able to drag 7 but number 8 was a duplicate of 7. Can not delete any pics from desktop folder

This is a solution for duplicates
    http://osxmactips.blogspot.com/2009/01/delete-duplicate-iphoto-photos.html
or use a specialized software, Duplifinder
    http://www.haystacksoftware.com/duplifinder/
Advanced user tips ... but first backup your iPhoto library
If you want to get rid of your original photo files and leave them in iPhoto, thus freeing up much hard drive space, you can use these commands in Terminal:
    mkdir ~/.Trash/iPhoto-Originals
    cd ~/"Pictures/iPhoto Library/Modified/"
    find . -type f -exec mv "../Originals/{}" ~/.Trash/iPhoto-Originals/ \;
Type these commands carefully and it should work!

  • How can I preserve the date and time of photos when moving them from iPhone to iPhoto and then to other folders on my computer?

In the past I’ve had no problem moving photos from my iPhone 4 into various folders on my computer while retaining their original date and time. I would import into iPhoto, then drag the photos from iPhoto into other folders via the Finder or Adobe Bridge (which is my principal image organizer). The original date and time of the photo would always travel with the jpeg into iPhoto and then into other folders. However, sometime during a recent session transferring photos in this way, the dates of the photos started to change at the point when I copied them out of iPhoto. Within iPhoto itself, the various original dates of the photos are retained. But in Finder and Bridge, copies of those same photos all carry the same (worthless) date: the date and time that they were imported from my iPhone. I can’t figure out what would have changed on my Mac to make it start re-dating my photos. I was happily dragging and dropping photos, and suddently I started to lose the original dates. Did I inadvertently change some settings? (I am running OS 10.6.8 and using iPhoto 8.)

(I use iPhoto only to import from my iPhone; I organize all my images, including thousands of RAW files, in folders on a big external drive.)
Why are you using iPhoto at all? use image capture or drag and drop the photos
The problem is that the files I am copying are getting stripped of the EXIF metadata
eliminating iPhoto from your work flow will eliminate one oppertunity to have this happen  For photos in iPhoto it is best to export them rather than drag an drop them - this assures your EXIF and IPTC data is correct and uptodate
Why would I be able, over many years, to retain EXIF metadata in photos imported from an iPhone--then one day find that the same workflow strips such photos of EXIF data?
Because exporting is the supported way to "export" photos - I never drag and drop photos out of iPhoto and I never use thrid party programs on the photos in the iPhoto library - try exporting as suggested above and see if that is the solution

  • How to get pics from iphone to iphoto library on hard drive

Hi there. I saved my photo library to an EHD. I pointed iphoto to open the library from EHD. Normally when I connect my iphone to my macbook pro, iphoto just pops up asking to import the pics from my phone. But now it doesn't do that and it doesn't show my phone on the left pane of i photo. How do I get my pics and videos from my iphone into the iphoto library i saved on my ehd? Thanks!

    Greetings,
Make sure your external hard drive is Mac formated and has a reasonable amount of space available.
--- Side note:  If you haven't already, you should tell TimeMachine to backup that external hard drive as Time Machine only backs up your internal hard drive by default.
    Try:
    1. Install all software updates for both your computer and your iPhone and turn both on and off and re-plug the cable between them.
    2. Try importing your pictures and movies using Image Capture found in Macintosh HD > Applications.
-- If Image Capture sees your iPhone when iPhoto does not, try creating a new iPhoto library on your internal drive to see if that library can see your iPhone.  This is done by launching iPhoto while holding down the option key.
If those steps do not help, follow this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3195
    Cheers.

  • Moving stills from video to iPhoto

I have been using iMovie 6.0.3 and captured some stills from my vidoe and was able to drag them into the movie introduction. Now I would like to use the same stills in my Web Gallery page, but I cannot drag or import them into iPhoto. The files are called e.g. Still 01.dv and iPhoto does not recognize these files. What can I do? Thanks in advance.
    Geraldine

    Geraldine,
Confusing though it may be, a *Still Frame* is a movie file and not an image file. What you want to do is select the still in iMovie and do File > *Save Frame* (or type Command F). You can then choose jpeg for your file type, set the name, and save to your Desktop. Once on the Desktop, you can import into iPhoto, then delete the Desktop copy. (You can't save directly into the iPhoto Library folder, because iPhoto has to import it.)
    Bottom line: use +Save Frame+, NOT +Create Still Frame+.
    Regards.

  • Moving pics from file manager to albums?

    Hi guys
Im getting so fustrated with this. This seems simple but i dont know why I cannot do this
I have pics from my computer which it lets me copy to my phone, but it wont let me copy it from my phones memory to an album? I try and just drag and drop the picture to an album in my phone but it wont let me
Can anyone help or tell me whats going wrong here
    thanks

You don't say what phone you are using, but I'm guessing it's a recent S60  smartphone.
You can't drag/drop into albums because the albums are not folders on the memory, they are databases. The only way to add them to albums is to get them to the phone, then go through "Photos" or "Gallery"*, select the photos by going Options>Mark/unmark>Mark multiple**, then select Options>add to album and select the album.
You cannot normally add files into the Download or Captured albums, they are usually reserved for the phone to use for images downloaded from the internet or from messages, and captured with the camera.
*The name is sometimes different depending on model
**if your phone doesn't have the mark multiple option, you'll have to select files by going Options>Mark/unmark>Mark

  • Moving pictures from Windows into iPhoto

I have a large number of photos on a Windows PC which I want to move into iPhoto on my Mac. The photos are organised into folders, but not consstently date stamped.
Is there any way I can import the photos in such a way as they will atomatically be organised into Events in iPhot in the same way there are in folders on the PC - or will I just ave to import them one folder at a time?
    Thanks

One folder at a time - drag each folder to iPhoto and it will create an event matching it
Note however iPhoto is not about files and you will not have a structured file set for future imports although you can export into one
And you never access your files directly in iPhoto - you use iPhoto or the media browser in the lower left hand corner or each open/upload/attach window
And unless you plan to pruchase Apeture is it strongly recommended that you do not change the default preference to copy imported items to the iPhoto library

  • Remove pics from trash in iphoto

Hi i have moved all my pics and albums to an external hard drive to free up some space, but they still remain(over 8000) in the trash in iphoto, not in the trash on applications, how can iremove these as it is still taking time when i click on iphoto to load up, which was the whole point to begin with.

What version of iPhoto and system are you running?
Have you tried to empty the iPhoto Trash bin?
Note:  iPhoto is known for crashing when trying to delete large numbers of photos at one time.  But give it a try.
i have moved all my pics and albums to an external hard drive to free up some space,
    How did you do this?
Have you considered moving your iPhoto library to the EHD and running it from there? That way you could keep all of your photos in the library.

  • Adding Pics from Shutterfly to IPhoto

I am trying to save some pictures that a friend emailed to me from Shutterfly (or any other online photo album) and I can not seem to get them into any of my Iphoto events or even a new one. When I was using a PC all I had to do was click on the photo and say copy then go over to my folder with the photos and paste it. This is not the case with IPhoto. Any help would be appreciated!!
    Thanks!!

Could I not just put them on a USB stick and connect that ?
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Moving things from folder to folder

Lets say i want to move something from one folder to another folder. Why can't i use the 'Cut' and 'paste' functions. Why can i only copy it and paste it? I don't want the hassle of opening a second folder in a new window to drag and drop it, in order to move items?
Is there any way to move files via cut and paste, using the 'apple X' and 'apple V' keys?
    Ilya

Don't understand what you mean. Yes, sidebar items are a kind of alias, but any alias, including the sidebar ones, work like the original folder. That is, you drag an item to the alias or to a sidebar folder and the item is moved to the original. You open the alias and the original opens. Indeed, I keep aliases to my drives and home folder on my Desktop, rather than the originals. I've never had a problem moving things to them. I keep three folders in the sidebar and drag things to them all the time, and frequently add a folder I'm moving things to and when I finish I remove it. Everything moves just fine. If your machine is not working this way then you have something terribly wrong.

  • Trying to move pics from iMac with iPhoto '08 to an iMac with iPhoto '11

I'm attempting to move my photo library from an old iMac with iPhoto '08 to a new iMac with iPhoto '11.  The old iMac is so old that I can't use Migration Assistant.  I tried using a WD external hard drive "formatted HFS+ journaled."  Once i dragged the library from the EHD to the new iMac, I couldn't upload the photos using the instructions given elsewhere in this forum.  At one point, after many combinations of clicks and keystrokes, the new iMac uploaded everything (including duplicates), imported the photos, and the pictures disappeared when I closed and reopened iPhoto.  Any tips?

Do not use migration assistant it does not do a good job
The iPhoto library can not be on a disk formated anything except Mac OS extended (journaled)
Never import one iPoto library into anothe iPhoto library which is appearently what you did
Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
