Moving pictures between different aperture libraries

I have an imac which has my current aperture library. I would like to have a mac air for travel purposes and then be able to place all of the pictures in my mac air into my main library on the mac air on my return. Can I do this if yes how?
Thanks

The "export as library" function is probably just what you want. Export part of your library as a new library, put it on the Macbook Air, work on it away from home, merge it back in, and remove it from your Macbook Air.

The link I included before is a little bit of a heated debate concerning this topic, but you can get familiar with the (unusually long) page from the manual in the above link.

Is there a way to be able to Edit pictures between different accounts on the same Mac?

What does 'edit pictures between different accounts' mean?
You can edit photos in each account. You can share the Library so the same library is available in all accounts. But I'm not sure what you're asking for.

  • Moving pictures between libraries

Greetings, is there a convenient way to move pictures between libraries. Copy and paste doesn't work. I have tried the import function but the other libraries are grayed out. Any thoughts. Thanks

put the picture(s) in an album then choose: File>>Export>>Album as new library. Then import that library to the library you wish to move to. You could just export the master, but you'd lose any work you've done. You could also export the version, but you'd "bake in" any work you've done.

  • Working and moving photos between two open libraries?

I'm not sure if it is possible, but can you work in and transfer photos between two open libraries at the same time? It is more an organizational question...i.e. I want to have some photos only appear in a particular library...

    nk3:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can only have one library open at a time but with iPhoto Library Manager (in the free mode) you can transfer 20 photos at a time between libraries and keep keywords, comments, etc.

  • Moving pictures to different libraries on iPhoto?

I have been useing iPhoto for three years completely unaware that i could create a second library. i take a lot of pictures, and i have 14,607 pictures all in one library and its become far too confusing to handle. i just created a new library yesterday. i need to move some events from my old one into the new one. after hours of attempting to move them i came to the conclusion that there was no way and i eventually downloaded the free "iPhoto Buddy". it seems alot of people use this. i see how it allows me to acces different libraries easily, but does it supply me with a way to move events from one library to the other? is there ANY way to do this?
i have tried exporting/importing them, but this is far too complicated. it will take me weeks to reorganize it all. am i missing something?

To move groups, albums or events, of photos between libraries and keep keywords, titles, comments, and other metadata intact the only option is to use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager.
Otherwise you could export those photos you want to move out of library A to a folder and import that folder into library B.  All you would get are the photos and none of the metadata.

  • Moving photos between two iphoto libraries

Is there any way to easily move photos from one iphoto library to another? We have two macs at home and my wife and I keep separate iphoto libraries on each one. Both computers are using iphoto '08 (version 7.1.2). I back up both libraries on an external hard drive. Recently my wife was traveling with one computer and I needed to access some pictures that were on it. The only way I could figure was to:
    1) hold down the option key when opening iphoto on my machine, choose the library on the external
drive that had the photos I needed.
    2) Then from within iphoto export those photos.
    3) Then close out iphoto and reopen it with the library on my machine.
    4) Then finally import the photos into the library on my machine.
Is there any faster and easier way to extract photos in a situation like this?

Like Larry said, use iPLM to copy events or albums between libraries while keeping metadata, keywords, titles and descriptions, intact.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can you share picture between different user on one computer

I am trying to move pictures from one user I photo to another user on the same computer but not sure how to do it can anyone help?

    Just the Photos?
Export from one user (File -> Export) to the FInder. Drag the images to the Users/Shared folder. Change user and then import from there.
    Or use iPhoto Sharing:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
Enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.

  • Codec missing and moving projects between different computers

    Hi,
Im a real rookie when it comes to premiere... and i have 2 problems.
First off i just want to know the best way to move a project between two computers... Usually when i move the folder and try open it all the links to the different movie files dont work, so i have to go through and select each one manually. There must be a way to get around this...
Second off i have a problem with importing my mac mov (i used iMovie to move the files from the video camera, which is a Sony HDR-HC3) files into premiere on the pc, it claims the codecs are missing. I have installed quicktime on the pc and i can play the movies fine, but they wont import into premiere because of the missing codec. Why?

FAQ:How do I transfer a project from one computer to another?

  • Problems moving pictures between rolls

I have also posted a topic about a problem combining rolls. This question was originally there too, but I thought it was a bit long, so I split it.
To solve my combining rolls problem, I could also move pictures from one roll to another. However, this is also flaky with iPhoto 6.0.6 (322). I can drag photos from roll A to roll B but then find I can't drag them back from roll B to roll A. Again, the behaviour is unpredictable. This is when I drop the dragged photos into an opened roll. What I find consistently seems to work is to drop the dragged photos onto a roll header wehn it has turned dark blue / purple. So, perhaps the answere here is to always drop onto the header - but it appears the pane should also work, and it does sometimes.
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You have the answer. Drop photos onto the roll's header. Only release them when the header is selected. That's just the way it works. I'm surprised dropping them into the thumbnails has ever worked for you; consider it a bonus.

  • Moving photos between different versions of iPhoto

Is there a way to move photos from my MBP running Maverick with iPhoto 9.5.1 to my iMac running Snow Leopard with iPhoto 9.1.5(I haven't been able to update the iMac as it lives on a sailboat where high speed internet is unavailable).
I tried using iPhoto manager and it doesn't work.

Copy them on a Flash drive and load them the next time you go.

  • Moving files between different devices, help needed.

Hi people, i need some help working this out. I am about to buy a Tablet, it will be my first tablet.
In a few days the iPad 3 comes out and that would be nice, But...I have 2 old PPC macs, both Running on 10.5.8 and an android Phone. I'm guessing that because the iPad doesn't have a micro SD card slot or a proper usb port, getting files from it to all of my other kit is going to be a big pain. I understand that Apple has finally made iOS5 which i'm told is non computer reliant, so in theory, i can buy an iPad, take it home, turn it on, set it up and use it, without having to connect it to a computer with iTunes on it.
I am aware that iPad will come with iCloud, but i'm guessing Apple won't allow any of my kit listed above, to access that except maybe a windows computer. I could use bluetooth?
Is it possible to access files i would store in iCloud from any device, anywhere in the world just by logging in over the internet browser? Or am i going to have to not use iCloud and instead use Google Docs, Dropbox, or some other combination of online storage to move file around, or get a completely diferent tablet.
I'm also concidering an Asus Transformer Prime Tablet plus docking keyboard as that does have a full sized usb port and a micro SD card slot and a full sized SD card slot as well, plus an extra battery.

Yes sorry, i missed a bit out. I would use iCloud from the iPad itself, to backup the iPad so that when it crashes i can restore it, but would have to keep a copy of any files in Dropbox, that i might need to share inter platform. As i tend to keep multi backups anyway coz over the years i've had 2 Hard disk failures and 1 memory stick failure. That approach is not too much hasel. Not as elegant as just using one on line storage area but Hey, Big companies are never going to make their stuff work properly with everyone elses, that would be way too idealic. It was hard enough to get them to use standard file formats.
    Thanks again.

  • Some Aperture Libraries don't open

I have about 50 different Aperture libraries ranging in size for 10Gb up to 300Gb. Some of them now show a size of 0Gb, and when I go to open them they produce the following error.
There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary”.
I have run the Aperture First Aid on some (after copying them), and they will open, however have no photos.
I have run Disk Utility, I have removed preferences and Application Support files. No difference.
Some of these libraries are 4 years old and have been upgraded, some have been done within the last 6 months. I can not see a pattern for which ones are OK, and which ones are not.
I am running 3.1.2. on OS 10.6.7 on a MacPro with 6Gb of RAM, and a bunch of internal and external drives. All these libraries are on an external drive, including ones that work fine.
I have found a couple of archived threads that do not fix the problem.
    Thx in advance.
    Jamie

Any idea what might be happening or how to further troubleshoot?
Sometimes Aperture will not import a library, if the libraries erraniously are considered to be the same as the one you are importing into.
Try to change your exported library intoy a new library by first creating a new library in Aperture on your MacBook with "File > Switch to library > Other/New" and then import your exported library into the new library.
Then import this new library into Aperture library on your iMac with "File > Import > Library".

  • Moving pictures in film rolls

Has anybody figured out how to slow down the scrolling when moving pictures from one roll to another? I keep whizzing by the roll I want.

This happens to me, too. I participated in a thread about this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3075268&#3075268
although nothing has really corrected the problem for me. And while I have the utmost respect for Terence Devlin, who is probably correct 99.9% of the time, I'm still not totally convinced that this is a mouse problem. [Sorry, TD.] I just don't see it in other contexts, (not even in Finder) but it happens consistently in iPhoto, and only when trying to drag selected items.
That being said, I have learned to live with and work around it. When moving pictures between rolls, I must keep all rolls closed except the one I select photos from. If the target roll is on screen with the beginning roll, there's no problem. If not, I may have to drop the photos in the closest roll to the target that I can manage. Like iPhoto leapfrog. Say I'm scrolling up. I may drop the photos into the highest roll on screen before iPhoto begins to hyper scroll. Then scroll the window to move that roll down, and drag them a second time upwards. Eventually the roll I'm in and the target roll will share the screen, and I can finish the job.
I'll be watching with interest to see if you find a solution. [Now TD will come correct me. That's okay, I'm used to it. And like I said, he's usually right. So he's probably right. Try anything he suggests and let us know if it works. :-)]

  • Merging 2 Aperture Libraries

I'd like to know if there's a way to merge two different Aperture Libraries.
I have what we'll call a primary library and another library which I would like to add to it.
I understand that I can Export the images from the secondary library and then Import them into my primary library however I'd like to retain both the Originals and Versions of the images I'm copying over to my primary Library. My intent is to just have one Library. It's a long story how things got this way.
Can I do what I'm wanting to do?
    Thanks.

It involves manually exporting every project from one library and importing it to the other...
that should preserve all versions and metadata.
    Read about it here: http://www.bagelturf.com/files/9ad36f04aff15d63635209d935f9c709-777.php
maybe there is an easier way.. perhaps some scripts or other programs that can help?..
