Moving pictures from iPhoto to desktop having permission problems?

Just installed iPhoto new as part of a brand new instal of SL.
Before I could drag a picture to the desktop and change the name etc.
Now I get a message:
You don’t have permission to rename the item “IMG_3909.JPG”.
I am on the latest version, 8.1.2.
Wen I try to trash it, it wants a password.
In the permissions I do have access to read and write to it, so I am puzzled.
Is this a finder issue?
Why and how to fix?
Thanks.

Good morning

That sounds very strange. It sounds like you don't have permissions to write to files on your own desktop.
Indeed. However I do.
Permissions are:
(Me) read and write
staff read only
everyone read only
The first step with anything permissions-related is to open Disk Utility and repair permissions on your boot drive. Give that a go and let us know how it goes?
Did that to begin with.
Now, you say it's a brand new install: where did your iPhoto library come from? What are the permissions on it? Perhaps you moved it over from your backup or old mac in such a way as to mung its permissions.
Library came from my old computer that had the same permissions.
Now it has:
(Me) read and write
staff read and write
everyone read and write

  • Moving Pictures from iphoto to finder?

I recently just decided to stop using iPhoto. So I moved all my images from iphoto to seperate folder in Finder. Now ... did I just a copy of the images? Because all the pictures are still in iPhoto.. I want to know if it's now okay to delete them from iphoto altogether? I think the only thing I would want in there is my Photo Stream.. I don't want two copies on my computer because this would be taking up more of my hard drives space, correct?

Lightroom (and Aperture) are apps for professional photographers to manage their photo libraries. I'd suggest until you learn how to master iPhoto that  you stay with that app. Get your self a book on iPhoto or take a class and you will find how powerful and easy to use it is. However until you understand it you may continue to be confused and make poor decisions. A good place to start is using the free resources you have available such as:
    http://www.apple.com/support/mac-apps/iphoto/
    or use the iPhoto forum.

  • Dragging pictures from iPhoto to desktop

For some reason, my iPhoto has stopped allowing me to drag pictures onto the desktop. Instead of the green plus sign that usually accompanies the mouse when you drag items to the desktop, it now shows an annoying grey circle with a slash through it (like a no-smoking sign), and the picture will not drop onto the desktop.
I keep most of my photos on an external harddrive, and I transfer pictures by placing them in a folder on the desktop, opening my external harddrive library with iPhoto, and dragging the photos from the desktop folder to iPhoto. Although this is probably not the ONLY way to put new pictures onto an external harddrive, it has always worked for me until this point.
Can anyone help?! This is driving me crazy! Thanks
OH! Also -- what's even more mysterious is that older pictures that are in my iPhoto library will still drag to the desktop. Only more recent pictures from a new camera that are still in my computer's library will not drag -- but it's not the camera, since most of the pictures from the new camera that are still on my computer's iPhoto have already been dragged and transferred to my external harddrive. I hope that makes sense!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

  • How do I move pictures from iphoto library to my desktop so I can these use them to sell on ebay?

I recently moved pictures from my ipad to my iphoto library on my Macbook Pro computer. I want to now use these photos to sell on EBay. What are the steps I need to do to move these from one place to the other. This needs to be in laymans terms as my husband and I are new to this. Thanks for help.

Put the photos in an iPhoto album.  Use the File ➙ Export ➙ File export menu option and export them to a folder on the Desktop.  From there you can upload them to Ebay via your browser.

Not having a media card in your BlackBerry may affect your ability to transfer media files onto it. There is a file size limit of 2.86MB when transferring files into device memory. http://bbry.lv/9XNuy0
Have you verified that the applications you are trying to install are supported by your current wireless provider? Unlocked devices from one provider may not have full functionality on another network.

  • I am having trouble moving files from iPhoto to a thumb drive.  Sometimes I can move 20 photos next time I can only move 2 photos or 0---this is during the same session.  I also have trouble downloading photos to the internet.  Can someone please help?

I am having trouble moving files from iphoto to a thumb drive.  During the same session sometime I can move 10 photos at a time, the next time I can only move one photo and sometime no photos will move.  I also have trouble downloading photos to the internet.  I was using a MacBook Pro and had no problems like this.  I then upgraded to the MacBook Pro with Retina Vision and this is the computer I am having problems with.  Can anyone please give me a suggestion in how to fix this problem. THANK YOU.

iPhoto problems should be posted in their forums.
I also have trouble downloading photos to the internet.
Needs clarification.  You upload from your computer to the internet & download from a website/internet to your computer.  So which are you trying to do?  Either way, sounds like a browser issue.  You need to post in the forum of whichever browser you are using.

If you used migration assistant then it probably created a new Login user and placed the migrated files under it.

  • How do I move my pictures from iphoto on my mac book to iphoto on my new Desktop?

I am not sure what how to transfer all my pictures from iphoto on my old mac book to my new desktop computer. Any help would be appreicated.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • I cannot move pictures from iphoto to the desktop

    I have a MacBookPro.
I cannot take pictures from iphoto and then drag them somewhere else, whether its on the desktop, in a folder or on a usb key: they do not want to more out of iphoto.
I have tried to put my computer to sleep and wake it up: it doesnt work.
I have tried to 'export' the photographs: it doesnt work.
I cannot afford to loose any of these photographs therefore reseting my iphoto is not an option.
    help please!
    Thank You

You do not ever directly access the contents of the iPHoto library - use the media browser - in the lower left of the insert window under media ==> photos ==> iPhoto

  • I am using iphoto 6.06 for my intel imac.  I have been trying to print pictures from iphoto and i keep getting a message that states " the picture you are trying to print is in the iphoto library"  what can i do to be able to print a photo from iphoto

I am using iphoto 6.06 for my intel imac.  I have been trying to print pictures from iphoto and i keep getting a message that states " unreadable file: the following file could not be imported.  the file is in the iphoto library folder"  also when i try to print a picture from iphoto i get a message that says "no page was selected"
not sure what happened but i can pnly print when i drop the photo onto my desktop as an 8.5 x 11 size picture and i am trying to print 4x6's

Since the new library gives you the same message log into another user account on your Mac and see if you can run iPhoto without getting that message.  If you get that message there also a reinstall of iPhoto seems indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all available updates to it.

  • Moving photos from iphoto to a flash drive

Not sure what I'm doing here but I have a flash drive taht I am trying to move pictures from iphoto to. I'm still in Windows world I guess and am looking for the flash drive on the left side so i can drag and drop the photos into it but I don't see it anywhere. What am I doing wrong?? thanks.
    Rob

usually for me, things appear on the top right desktop. Or, click on finder> file, new finer window and if Finder pref's are set to show HD, then the thing should show there- ( from finder>file drop down> create new folder and drag the pics to that... AFTER  clicking on the thing so that is waiting for you

  • How do I save pictures from Iphoto to flash drive?

How do I save my pictures from Iphoto to a flash drive??

File -> Export and export the files to a folder on the desktop.
Drag the folder to the flashdrive.
You might not want to reformat the drive as then it won’t work with many other devices.

  • How to I export pictures from iphoto to a sd card

how do I export pictures from iphoto to a sd card?

    léonie wrote:
Exporting from iPhoto to the SD card is preferable. Dragging to the card will only write the lower quality  preview files and not the high resolution originals.
Export to a folder on the Desktop and then drag the folder to the card. If the file system on the SD Card is not MacOS Extended (Joournaled), you'll avoid a problem with the limit of files, that can be stored on the top level of the card by collecting all files in a folder.
Actually I found the opposite was true.
As you can see in the following picture, the dragged photo, which is the one named IMG_2268.JPG  retained more metadata and had a larger file size than the one I exported which was reduced in file size, and lost a bit of the meta data in the export.   Including the creation date, and the latitude and longitude.
I think Dragging is the better option.

Select the pic(s) you want to export and go File -> Export and export them to a Folder on the desktop. Copy that to the memory stick.

  • When I try to email a picture from Iphoto, I get the error message "email server didn't recognize your username/password"

I have been trying to email pictures from Iphoto, but it tells me that the email server doesn't recognize the username/password combination.  How do I go about changing this?

no problem if you don't like Mail - I do and most iPhoto users do not relealise that with '11 this changed and is easly moved back
Oh, I like it - I just don't like it when the built-in iPhoto mailer does not work, for it should work. I like to use both - Mail and iPhoto. To have both, I have set iPhoto as mailer, and when I want to use Mail.app, I simply drag the photos from iPhoto to the Mail icon in the Dock.
