Moving pictures inside an event

How can I move pictures inside an event? I´ve spent lots of effort on organizing my pictures in the event folder ( and also made albums for for the pictures that I want to be organized in a different way- so far I think I´ve understood the "organizing system" of Iphoto...). But once inside an eventfolder the pictures wont organize manually. I´ve tried to choose "manual" in the "content" selection but its not an option! Only if I move over to the "picturefolder" the manual function gets activated and available... How can I activate the manual organizing choice while working inside the event folder? the "picture folder" is all messy and difficult working in and I do like the system as far as it comes to events VS albums and therefore really want to organize my pictures in events aswell. It seems like the pictures automatically organize in all kind of other ways ( by date, titel, keyword aso) but the way I´d like them to be! Sometimes pictures that I think belong in the same place actually are not registered on the same date... for example i you´ve used different cameras in different days but the pictures still shows the same. Help me! I´m pulling my hair here!!!

Events are organisation for those who can't really be bothered. They are automatic - based entirely on Date and Time the camera records the photos as taken.
You can move photos between Events, you can Merge Events, you can Rename them and sort them in various ways except one: You cannot manually sort in an Event as Events are all automatoed.
If you want to manually sort in an Event then you've outgrown Events as an organising tool. Now it's time to look at albums (Where you can manually sort) which are much more flexible than Events.

  • Moving pictures WITHIN an event

Is there anyway to move the placement of a picture with in an event? Keeping it in its original event, just moving it next to a different picture?
    THANKS!

Not really - use an album
Events are basically time based and just a place to store your photos - albums are the place to organize them
You can go to the View menu ==> sort photos and select by title - then by changing the titles you can force photos to appear where you want - but why not put them in an album where you can just drag them where you want

  • Moving pictures in iphoto event

Once you have created an event with your pics how can you adjust and move your pics around within that event, so that they are in the order you want them.
    New user to MAC!!!

The options for sorting in an Event are all in the View Menu -> Sort Photos command.
Manual sorting is not possible in an Event. Events are strictly for date and time arrangements.
For maximum flexibility use Albums, where you can sort things any way you want. Albums use no extra disk space.

When I load new pictures to iphoto how can I add them to existing events?
When I create albums do the pictures I put in there get "copied" or are they just linking to the originals in events? I don't want to rack up all my memory creating albums.
If I add, modify, or delete pictures in the events will it update my albums too?
How can I resize a picture to load it too ebay or something?
Where are the actuall files kept on the hard drive so I can copy them to a flash drive or something?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
When I load new pictures to iphoto how can I add them to existing events?
You can't. You can move them once they are imported by drag and drop, or by flagging the pics and then selecting your target Event and going Events menu -> Add Flagged Photos to Selected Event.
When I create albums do the pictures I put in there get "copied" or are they just linking to the originals in events? I don't want to rack up all my memory creating albums.
They are simply referenced. A pic can be in 1,000 Albums and use no more disk space than if it were in 1. A pic cannot be in more than one Event without being duplicated. In any case, it's not your Memory that would get used up, it's your HD space.
If I add, modify, or delete pictures in the events will it update my albums too?
If you add pics to an Event they will not be automatically added to an Album unless it is a Smart Album. As the pics in an Album are referenced, if you edit the pic in an Event it's edited in the Album, if you trash pic from an Event it's removed from the Album etc.
How can I resize a picture to load it too ebay or something?
Select the pic in the iPhoto Window and use the File -> Export command. In the resulting window you have various options, including resizing the pic.
Where are the actuall files kept on the hard drive so I can copy them to a flash drive or something?
By default your Library is in your Pictures Folder. It's called the, er, iPhoto Library. It's a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Want to see inside: Right click on the Library icon and go 'Show Package Contents'. A Finder window opens with the Library exposed.
Standard Warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • How can you take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in.

As the title says I need help on how to take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in. Right now when I want to move a picture from one event to another I drag it to my desktop then delete it from iPhoto then I drag it back into iPhoto and put where I want it.An example would be taking a photo from the Christmas event and add it to a specific person event.  Can I do that within the events section without all the dragging. Also is there anyway I can remove duplicates from iPhoto without going through each and every file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple doesn't make it easy to do what you want.  However, here's how I do it.
Select the photo you want to move and create a new Event for it via the Event ➙ Create Event menu option.
In the Event mode select the new Event with the one picture and drag it onto the Event you want to move the photo to.

  • The pictures in several events I imported disappeared, only the event names remain. Now iPhoto crashes when I try to import new files. Any ideas?

I imported several hundred pictures to different events. Some directly from a Canon EOS camera (large card) and some form old CD's. The import process went fine. But I noticed some events were empty after having seen them in the library. Thought it was my mistake and may have moved the pictures to other event. The last CD I was importing could not be read and iPhoto hanged. I had to force turn off the laptop and when restarted, several of the newer events were also empty and now iPhoto crashes when I try to Import to Library. Does anybody has had an experience like this? I really need to recover the pictures because I already deleted them from the camera. Help will be greatly appreciated.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Folders inside IPhoto Events

I was wondering if it was possible to create a folder inside an Event in Iphoto. My reason for doing this is simple. I have one event with a certain name but I don't want all the pictures disorganized in that event, I want to separate them into different folders (or mini-events) withing the event

No, you can't. Events are time-based units only, with no ability to form hierarchical structures. You can select the Event and crate a Folder from it, then divide the Folder into Albums. Folders can contain other Folders or Albums; photos must be contained in Albums. These all appear in the Source Pane (left column) of iPhoto and are a different organizational system from the Events. As for the Event in question, you must choose whether you want to keep it as one or divide it into multiple Events.
BTW, if you have Events you have iPhoto 7, and would be better off posting in the iPhoto '08 forum (iPhoto v7 = iPhoto '08). Yes, that is confusing.

  • Copying or moving video from your Event Library to an external hard disk

I have a Network Drive where I'm used to putted all my iMovie08 files.
I'm start using iMovie09 and i'm no longer able to have my *files/library in a network drive*. Did apple remove this functionality? If this is true this is unbelievable because now a days everything goes to network storage. On iTunes i can have my library virtually anywhere. I need to have the same behavior when i'm using iMovie.
    Can someone help me?
    with my best regards,

Copying or moving video from your Event Library to an external hard disk
If you want to save space on your computer’s hard disk, you can move your stored video in your Event Library to a compatible external hard disk connected to your computer with a FireWire or USB 2.0 cable.
You can also copy Events to another hard disk. You might do this, for example, if you want to create a duplicate copy of your video library or an Event on a friend’s hard disk.
NOTE:When using an external hard disk with iMovie, make sure it has been formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    - If i understood correctly, the solution you propose will replace completely my hard disk library with NAS location.
    - What i need (because when i'm travelling i dont have my NAS) is to have both. My hard disk library and the ability to copy/move (drag & drop within iMovies09 ) events and projects to my NAS at my description as i use to do on iMovies08.
And yes all my NAS locations appears with and yellow flag on iMovies09.
    best regards,

  • How do I change the date of pictures in an event?

I have just noticed, the date on pictures in an event are incorrect ( Jan 2099 ).I have tried to change it, but it will not allow me to, any ideas?

The date is taken from the EXIF data in the picture file.  That data is added by the camera when you took the photo.  First thing to do is to check the date and time on your camera, so this problem does not continue going forward.
It appears that iPhoto does not allow you to adjust the EXIF data, so I don't think you will be able to change the date, at least using iPhoto.  There may be some software out there that allows you to do this, but I am not aware of any.

  • Moving Photos from One Event to Another

I don't entirely understand how to do this. When I want to move photos from one event to another, I usually just drag the photos from one event to another. This works fine when the two events are next to each other (within the same window). However, it he event is not in the same window (requiring a scroll up or down) then the drag and drop can't happen (i.e., having to drag photos from my last event to the first event). Any suggestions here?

If you're merging two Events you ca do this in Event View - just drag one Event to the Other and they will be merged.
If you're moving pics from an Event to another (but not a Full Merge):
Photos View, the go View -> Event Titles and option Click on the wee triangle to close all the Events.
Then open the Event you want to get the Files From. Select the Files.
Drag them to the bottom of the iPhoto Window - above the toolbar - and the Window will scroll. (There's a bit of a knack to doing this: there's a sweet spot just above the tool bar. Get the Cursor there and the window will scroll. With practise you can even control the rate and speed of scrolling)
Drop them on the target Event.

  • Should I name each individual picture in an event or just name the event?

I could use some advise from those out there that really know how to organize their photos in iPhoto.
Should I name each individual picture in an event or just name the event?  The individual photos all have the typical camera file names (ex: 134-234.jpeg) when imported and in an event, but to be more organized, do most (or some) people re-name each photo in an event AND name the event?  For example:
Bob's Birthday Party on Saturday:  25 photos uploaded into iPhoto.  I named the event "Bob's 38th Birthday" but all of the 25 photos just have random numbered names.  I'd like to know who was in the photos so 10 years from now I can remember who I was standing next to.  Keywords for the event would not help (from what I understand) in this instance because I wouldn't know which of those keyword names went with what photo (ex: people's name that were in the different photos), because the keyword is for the entire event...right?  Not the individual photo?  But aside from keywords...
    1.     Should I name every single photo?  If yes,...how?  ex:  "Bob & me next to pool.jpeg" and "Bob and me in kitchen.jpeg"
    2.     Is there a "rule" to how long a photo name can be or how to type it"  "Bob and me by the pool at carol's house.jpeg" seems ridiculous, but how do you get all the pertinent info for that one photo so you remember who and where.
    3.     If I am naming each photo and there are different photos but with the same person do I name it "Bob and me 1.jpeg" "Bob and me 2.jpeg" so two similar photos don't have the same name?
    4.      If I go to a concert and have 68 photos are people taking the time to name each one?
My main question is about actually naming photos, and how best to name if there are lots of photos in an event, not keywords, etc.  I seem to find a lot of information on keywords and naming events, but not on naming the actual individual photos.
Thanks so much for any advice.

Totally wrong way to go about it
You want to use albums and folders not events
Sorry Larry, but I respectfully disagree. Events are a fine way to organize photos. And for me, organizing by event is more natural than using albums and folders.
I do agree that the OP is totally going about it the wrong way. And to that, I'll paste a response I always use for this question:
Here is how I go about using iPhoto:
    Import photos.
    Delete junk.
Split or combine events as needed. I tend to be an Event minimalist. For example, I don’t make the photos I took of my daughter at McDonald’s an event. Things like that get grouped into a “Winter 2014” event. Christmas photos often span a month or more, from cutting the tree to packing everything up, and they all get lumped into one of three “Christmas” events based on the branch of the family they relate to..
Set Keywords. I try to keep my keyword list to a minimum. For example, I have a keyword for “Vacation”, but I don’t use keywords for the location of the vacation (that’s taken care of with the Places feature). Another example: I have a keyword for “Birthday”, but I don’t have keywords for the person or the year (those are taken care of with the Faces feature, and the fact that all the photos are dated already).
Rate the best as 4 or 5 stars, and if I need to keep a bad photo for some reason, I rate it as 1 star. I don’t bother rating photos as 2 or 3 stars, but you can if you want.
Name the Faces. I only do this with the people I care about and delete the box around people that I don’t care about (this prevents them from showing up as suggestions when you’re viewing a person’s photos).
Set the location. This is very important for travel photos, but is also handy for others as well. If you want a really good reason to set the travel photos, pick a trip, do the work of setting the location of each photo, and then start the Travel slide show. The Travel slide show is really cool!
Now, with all this info set (called metadata in computer parlance), I can use Smart Albums to great effect.
I have a smart album that contains all photos of my daughter that I’ve rated as 5 starts. This album is automatically synched to my iPhone, my wife’s iPhone, my iPad, and our AppleTV. Every time I import a photo into iPhoto and mark my daughter’s face and rate the photo as five stars, the photo is automatically sent to all our devices when we synch. Super easy!
I have smart albums with Christmas photos for each branch of our family. So, when someone comes over for the holidays, I can easily show that part of the family’s Christmas photos on the TV. We don’t just sit around and watch the slide show all night, but the photos are there if people want to look and they add a nice touch to an otherwise empty sheet of dark glass. So, the Jones Christmas smart album has photos from 1972 to present, and only contain Jones family Christmas photos.
That's just a few things to keep in mind. I've found that combining Events and Smart Albums with Faces, Places, Keywords, and Ratings makes finding photos very easy.

  • So i was merging pictures together in events and all of the sudden I had several come up with no pictures just the image number when I click on the picture which is bland a black exclmation point shows up. Have I lost my pictures for good?

So I was merging pictures in the events and all of the sudden several went black and when i clicked on the photos they were gone and when I click on the blank picture with an image number under it an exclamation point show up.  Have i lot these pictures for forever?

I'm sorry, but your sister, unless she had already turned on the "Find my iPhone" feature and the person who took the phone has not disabled it, is out of luck. She should report the theft to local police authorities, including the serial number of her iPhone. While her experience is unfortunate, there are good reasons why Apple cannot do anything else about it.
I hope she gets her phone back.
    Best of luck.

  • IPhoto placed 7000 pictures into one event

After recently upgrading to Mavericks and the iphoto upgrade... iphoto merged about 7000 of my 12000 pictures into one event unders the Library/Photos... It's only those 7000 that have been merged and the rest are still as I had put them... Any help on resolving this would be great.

How can I put pictures inside the table in Pages for IPad? I can do that in Pages in my macbook, but I can't in IPad.

It would appear that unless you are working from a document that already had section breaks (or the equivilent) ,you can't. I have some files in pages that began as MS Word documents with multiple sections that allow that by tapping on the footer (or header) and making the change. Files created in Pages (or from other sources but without section beaks) do not.
