Moving Pictures off iPhone

So, is it possible to take pictures off the iphone without syncing it? If so how do I set it up to sync my photos without losing the ones on my phone?

Photos in your iPhone's camera roll must be imported as with any other digital camera. Photos in your iPhone's camera roll are not part of the iTunes sync process except for being included with your iPhone's backup.
Photos transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process are removed and can only be removed in the same way - via the iTunes sync process.
I use iPhoto on my Mac for importing photos from a digital camera and for photo storage and management. I create iPhoto albums for select photos - similar to creating an iTunes playlist with iTunes for select music.
Under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences, I've chosen selected albums. I select the iPhoto albums in the window below that I want transferred to my iPhone. If I want to add additional photos to my iPhone, I can add the photos to an existing iPhoto album that I've selected to be transferred to my iPhone followed by a sync, or create a new iPhoto album for the new photos, select the iPhoto album under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.
To remove a photo to select photos from my iPhone, I remove the photo or photos from the selected iPhoto album in iPhoto followed by a sync. To remove an entire iPhoto album from my iPhone, I deselect the album under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.
If you manually manage photo storage on your Mac, you can do the same manually with a parent folder and named folders with selected photos within selecting the parent folder to be transferred to your iPhone, but using iPhoto makes the entire process - importing photos from a digital camera, photo storage and management on your Mac, and for transferring selected photos to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.

I want to delete my pictures off iPhone because I want to free up space on the Phone. I have the pics on iCloud on my computer in my pics fdlder. I do not want to delete off computer, will it?

Open the iCloud control panel on your computer and click "Options" next to "Photo Stream". The pictures must not be copied into either of the folders listed, any other folder is fine.
Before you delete all the photos from your phone I would recommend that you only delete one, at first, to check that it is not deleted from your computer.

  • Can't get 2164 pictures off iPhone

At this point I have 2164 pictures I've taken with my iPhone, but I can't get a single photo off the phone via the USB connection (I can email a few, but this is not only extremely time consuming, but not very practical) and I need to get a few hundred off the phone ASAP for work.
I've read thru the many posts about this issue and I can not believe that Apple has let an issue this big slip past so easily.
I've tried to get the pics off with three different computers now - two Macs (a brand new 8-core Mac Pro and an older G5 2.0Ghz) and a Dell Inspiron 1501 (Laptop). None of them can read the pics on the iPhone. I've tried different USB ports and everything. This is most definitely an iPhone issue. The computers can see the iPhone, but iPhoto under Mac, Scanner and Camera Wizard under XP, and all other image programs I've tried will not read the pics off the iPhone.
Even worse, iTunes won't sync the photos without deleting what's on the iPhone first. And that doesn't do me a lot of good. I'm willing to look past the fact that this is a great disservice to what could be a great experience - as long as Apple comes out with a decent bug fix ASAP...
One last thing, I have only one folder for my pics, which is a massive amount of pics to have in one folder - scrolling thru to find one pic takes forever. Is there a way to put the pics in different folders thru the iPhone?

Rhyd, did you NOT read my post??? Your comment doesn't make any sense and comes off as sounding quite rude.
Even with only 5Gb of RAM, OS X can still cache to the hard drive whenever it needs to, so your comment about "All the RAM that a MacPro can hold could not do this for you" is absurd. The amount of RAM a Mac has, doesn't have anything to do with the fact that the iPhone isn't working properly.
No, I didn't ignore anything. I bought an iPhone specifically for a two week business trip (to Europe where I did not have access to iPhoto). When I returned with a lot of pics (2,164 pics to be exact), the upload process didn't work with anything - Mac OS X, nor Windows XP. iTunes didn't work. iPhoto didn't work. Nothing worked.
I took an additional 1500+ pics with another camera I had brought on the trip - filled up a 2Gb card with 6MP pics, and I didn't have any problems getting the pictures out of it. iPhoto is not the greatest of apps when you deal with a lot of pics on a daily basis, but at least it (usually) works. With the iPhone, it doesn't work - AT ALL. It doesn't see the iPhone as a camera device, and doesn't give you any options to even try, which leads me to believe that the iPhone has a few bugs that need to be addressed.
I doubt I could have exceeded the memory of the Mac for getting pics off an iPhone - we're talking roughly 930Mbs of pictures on the iPhone - which is not very much (I often fill up 2Gb cards on a daily basis) and even with the video and podcasts, the 8Gb iPhone still has over 4Gb of free space. If it's a problem with the iPhone not having enough RAM, then Apple should have made a built-in limit on how many pics you could take with it until they could figure out how to work with the limited amount of RAM the iPhone does have.
Either way, Apple needs to release a fix for getting pictures off the iPhone, ASAP.
And off the record, I probably take more pictures in a single week than most have in the past three years. I do Photography, High Definition, and Film for a living (including time-lapse photography) - I work with USB, firewire, SATA, and SCSI on a daily basis. I was using "OS X" when it was still called "NeXT" (btw, the spinning ball hasn't changed a bit). My systems aren't anything to laugh at here either - we're talking heavy duty 2k editing systems with over 9TB of storage on the Mac Pro alone. Needless to say, I don't dabble in video or photography, and these systems are not toys.

  • How to get contact pictures off iPhone

I saved a picture with most of my contacts on my iPhone. Now I'd like to get those pictures off of the iPhone and onto a computer. Can someone help?
So you know, I took the contact pictures from directly within the contact editor. I've tried sync'ing to my computer, but I only get thumbnails on my computer when I want the whole picture (I'm going to transfer the pictures to another iPhone).
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I have no clue, but don't think resolution is all that crucial.
Even a low-res picture can help preserve an important memory. Or something that makes a good phone contact picture may likely also make a good avatar for flickr, twitter, etc, and it would not need to be full resolution for such purposes.
Nothing taken with the iPhone is all that high-res anyhow. IIRC, pix assigned on the phone show up full-screen, so it's probably not as low-res as the teeny photo assigned on the desktop and transferred via sync.
Incidentally, google turned up this method of retrieval, using the Mac:
If you click "edit" on the contact's entry in Address Book and then double click inside their picture, it will appear as a somewhat bigger version, which you can copy with command-C. But it's a far cry from full-resolution.
    http://forums.macnn.com/103/ipod-iphone-and-apple-tv/341591/iphone-contact-photo s-how-to-extract/
I can't test it, though, as I don't sync contacts, and really have no clue whether the iPhone sync contact pictures to Outlook on Windows, which I assume the OP uses.

I am trying to get my videos and pictures off my iphone and onto my computer and itunes. Every time i google this, it seems to confuse me more. Please help!

Download Cyberduck. Other FTP software will be similar.
Go into the wifi settings on your phone.
    click on your network.
    write down the IP address
    Open Cyberduck
click on the open connection button
In the dropdown menu go to SFTP (SSH File transfer protocol)
In the server field enter your IP address
    Port is 22
    Username is "root"
    there is no password
Once connected you'll see "Library" and "Media"
    Above that you'll see /private/var/root
click that dropdown menu and navigate to the hard drive symbol that has "/" next to it.
    You'll now see 18 folders.
    Navigate to var/mobile/media/DCIM
Here are all your images and video
You can set a bookmark to this location so you're always just a click away.

  • Moving pictures form iPhone to my PC

Does anyone knows a way to move pictures taken from iPhone to my PC. It is crazy to email each picture to be able to save on my PC folder. Please let me know if there is a way. Thanks

Not sure on a mac but on a windows PC the iPhone gets recognized as a new device under "my computer" at the very bottom after network drives etc... But only if there are photos in your "camera roll".
All you need to do is click on the iPhone device and you will see the list of photos. You can drag and drop or copy using your prefered method. I like to put them into a folder I have already setup to sync so the pictures get removed from my "camera roll" and added to my "photo library" under the "photos" icon on my iPhone.
    A couple things to note:
    1. You can only see the iPhone as a device if there are photos in the "camera roll" on the phone.
    2. You cannot add anything to the file list when viewing the device in windows explorer.
    3. In windows explorer you can copy or delete only. Moving appears to only copy.
    4. To delete the photos you can delete them using your iPhone features (slow and tedious) or do a "select all" or "select individuals" in windows explorer and delete after copying them to your computer.

  • I get an error message when trying to import pictures from iphone to iphoto(Imac)

I get an error message trying to import photos from phone to imac. have 266 photos to get on my computer. how can i get these pictures off iphone onto my imac.?

Try a couple folders up - a parent folder's permissions can cause problems with a child subfolder.
And don't just rely on the read-only box. Go to c/users/username/music, right-click and get permissions, go to the security tab and make sure your username has full control and ownership.

  • Getting pictures off of a broken iphone

on my olf iphone 4 the screen is broken, making it not able to use, i need my pictures off of it, i tried using icloud but i did not put my pictures on icloud, and i have a passcode on m old phone, so i cannot back up my iphone to itunes, how can i get my pictures off of my phone

I asking you two different things here:
1 - Did you sync with icloud
2 - Did you backup to icloud.
I think since you only got your contacts and calendar back, that you only sync with icloud -
If you had backup your phone to icloud - all your data would've came back to your new phone.

  • My iPhone 4 has a cracked screen that I cannot see anything on it. I want to clear my pictures off of it before I sell it. I plugged it into my Surface RT, but I cannot download iTunes and I cannot unlock my phone. How can I get my pictures off my phone?

The solution would have been to back up your photos to your computer before the screen broke.

  • How do i get my pictures off my iphone to my laptop.

My old computer has crashed and i need to transfer my pictures off my iphone please help :O(

The only photos that can be imported to a computer are photos in your camera roll. Read here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
If these are photos that were synced to your phone, you will need third-party software, like this, to extract them from your phone:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Bear in mind, they were reduced in resolution when synced to your phone. There is no way to recover their full resolution.
