Moving platforms

Hi
I'm not if this is the correct place to ask this question!
I am in the process of swapping my windows PC for an MAC, I have been told that I can transfer the licenses that I have for Lightroom and Elements across to the new operating system. This would save me having to purchase new MAC versions of this software.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible and if so how do you go about sorting it out.
I have had a look around the Adobe site, but it's a big place and you soon end up running around in circles.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Peter

OK, I called Adobe Sales support; this is the "official story" which is still GREAT and made my day so I can say so long to Vista!
PS CS3: I can call Adobe, explain I am switching platform, give them my serial number and send a letter where I commit to destroy the Windows version. I will receive by mail (pay only S&H) the Mac Version of CS3. I can do thins only once, I mean I cannot go back and forth.
Lightroom: This is a multiplatform product, so I can just install it on my Mac and since it allows two install per customer, I should not have any problem. Other option is to download the trial into my Mac and then activate it with the S/N of the one I purchased.
I hope this is helpful to others... and Adobe rocks! it took down my switching costs by $1,000 and since CS3 and Lightroom are the only applications I use, then switching platforms will be a breeze as I needed to buy a new printer no matter what (gmail is free and basic word processing with iWork is just what I need)

  • Havok "floating" platforms - need some advice

Hi all, I hope this makes sense enough:
I'm trying to create a object that will act as a moving
platform in an "free-floating" world. Basically, the player( a
ball) is rolling around on a surface comprised of different blocks
and the idea is not to fall off. I'm wanting to create this
platform (and different moving variations of it) to take the player
to seperate, unconnected blocks or surfaces.
Although i know it's not the way to do it, I've got it
working somewhat by creating a moveable rigid body, keeping it
pinned, and then changing the body's position directly. My problem
is, if I try to use the "correct methods" of either
interpolatingMoveTo or CorrectorMoveTo, gravity effects the
simulation and the platforms move in a non-precise manner. if I
apply and anit-gravity force to the objects, then once the player
hits these platforms, they float off in the typical "no gravity"
    way.
Doing what I've been doing works as longs as i keep the
amount of movement per frame very low (resulting in very slow
platforms), but when I speed things up of course collision fails
because i've moved the object without applying a force or impulse.
Does anyone have any general ideas on how to use a platform
    with havok like this?
thanks in advance for any advice!

Got it! For future reference, though I may be the only one
    that DIDN'T know this...
Had to pin the rigid body, enable and use the
correctorMoveTo, then when it reaches it destination re-pin it and
disable the corrector....rinse, lather, repeat. Apparently using
correctorMoveTo unpins a rigidBody as the platform was succumbing
to gravity once it reached it's first desired location (the
platform moves back and forth or up and down repeatedly). So I also
had to add a reverse gravity register to keep the platform on a
consistent course, otherwise gravity started dragging it down over
    a period of time.
Hope that helps someone else in the future, as i took up
plenty of my time today. :-) Gary Rosenzweig's "Special Edition
Using Macromedia director MX" rocked.....just wish he had spoke
about the havok corrector. He explains everything else so well (at
least for a beginner's reading) but there is almost no corrector
info out there. Anybody know of any tucked away somewhere????
    Cheers

  • Photoshop CS-6 does not open images from Lightroom 5

I do have Photoshop CS-6 and Lightroom 5.  Nearly all images were created in a Windows 7 (64 bit) environment.  I have moved platforms to MAC. I have moved all images and the Catalog. I have changed platform to MAC. I am now using MAC OS-X (10.9.1).
I am able to see all images in Lightroom, I am able to modify all images in Lightroom. I can export the images to Jpeg (for example) from Lightroom.  I do have a warining at several images in Lightroom = "metadates have been changed - would you like to overwrite data or import ?"
First time I have tried to open an Image from Lightroom (hand over) Photoshop opens, but does not show any picture and no error message. But when I then look to recently opened files, the image is in the list. When I do click on this, Photoshop shows and error message: "the datamodule can not handle the file format" (which is either RAW or jpeg).
Another expirience is, when I try to open directly from Photoshop any other image, Photoshop ignores the XMP and opens the original file without any modification.

That's normal if the raw files were originally edited in Lightroom. Lightroom stores all edits in the catalog, not the xmp sidecar. You can set Lightroom to write to xmp as well, but that slows it down a little and so it's off by default. The Lightroom shortcut ctrl/cmd+S will also save to xmp.
I do have a warining at several images in Lightroom = "metadates have been changed - would you like to overwrite data or import ?"
That's related to the above, and also normal if you go the other way - edit in ACR and then move to Lightroom. It'll then be in xmp, but not the Lightroom catalog.
As for the missing on-screen image, that's a common video driver bug (although I suppose other causes are possible). For Windows you can download updated drivers directly from the manufacturer's website, but that's not possible with Mac. You'll have to wait for Apple to fix it.

  • R&D use of NXT

We need a controllable “moving platform” for demo purposes in a model urban environment. Since I work with LabVIEW and NI products, the Mindstorms NXT line seems worth considering, but I have a few concerns.
    1. Does this product fit into a professional environment, in terms of reliability, strong construction, and (not too much of a) toy-like appearance?
    2. Is there a place to get more specs on the various attachments? Right now we need more information on fast the servos can rotate, load vs. speed curves, weight limits, etc.
General comments about and experiences with using this “toy” in a R&D lab would be greatly appreciated.
    Jim

    Hallo Jim,
I'm working on the NXT in a laboratory. I'm tring to make a different humen-robot interface and try out some different kinds of positioning systems. Very often my supervisor comes in the lab with gasts and shows al the project we are doing here. And also mine, and these gasts never laught at me.

  • ASCII-EBCDIC convertion between z/Os and Linux

Hi experts, we are migrating our landscape to z/Os (DB+ASCS) and Linux (PAS). We have our GLOBALHOST on z/Os but we are experimenting some problems when we try to install our application servers because the conversion between platforms.
In the planning guide we can see that there is a way to mount NFS file systems exported from z/Os, that make this convertion in an automatic way, but the commands mentioned on the guide are for UNIX and not for Linux.
Does any of you have this kind of installtion that could help us to set this parameters ok?
Or does any of you face this problems before?
    Regards
    gustavo

First, yes, we have z/OS systems programmers and DBAs with specific knowledge of DB2 z/OS. One of the reasons we initially went with the Z platform when we implemented SAP was that our legacy systems ran there for many years and our company had a lot of Z knowledge and experience. zSeries was one of our "core competencies".
I also need to give you a little more information about our Z setup. We actually had 2 z9 CECs in a sysplex, one in our primary data center and another close by in our DR site and connected by fiber. This allowed us to run SAP as HA on the Z platform. For highly used systems like production ERP we actually ran our DB2 instances active/active. This is one of the few advantages of the Z platform unavailable on other platforms (except Oracle RAC, which is also expensive but can at least be implemented on commodity hardware). Another advantage is that the SAP support personnel for DB2 z/OS are extremely knowledgeable and respond to issues very quickly.
We also chose the Z platform because of the touted "near-continuous availability" which sounded very good. Let me assure you, however, that although SAP has been making great strides with things like the enhancement pack installer, at present you will never have zero downtime running SAP on any platform. Specifically you will still have planned downtime for SAP kernel updates and support packs or enhancement packs, period. The "near-continuous availability" in this context refers to zero unplanned downtime. In my experience this is not the case either. We had several instances of unplanned downtime, the most recent had to do with issues when the CECs got to 100% CPU utilization for a brief period of time and could not free some asinine small memory area that caused the entire sysplex to pause all LPARs until it was dealt with(yes, this could be dealt with using system automation but our Z folks would prefer to deal with these manually since each situation can be different). We worked with IBM on a PMR for several months, but our eventual "workaround" was much better. We stopped running our DB2 instances as active/active and never had the problem again. We chose this "workaround" because we knew we were abandoning the platform and any of the test fixes from IBM required a rolling update of z/OS in all LPARs (10 total at the time), which is a major hassle, especially when you do it several times applying several different fixes until the problem is finally solved.
We also experienced some issues with DB2 z/OS itself. In one case, some data in a table in production got corrupted (yikes!!) SAP support helped us correct the data based on our QA system and IBM delivered a PTF (or maybe it was a ++APAR) to correct the problem. We also had several instances of strange poor performance in ERP or BI that were solved with a PTF or by using some special RUNSTATS output by some IBM DB2 tool our DBAs ran when we gave them the "bad" query. Every time we updated DB2 z/OS with an RSU felt like a craps shoot. Sometimes there were no issues revealed during testing, other times major issues were uncovered. This made us very hesitant when it came to patching DB2 and also made us stay well behind currently available maintenance so we could let other organizations identify problems.
Back to the topic of downtime related to DB2 z/OS itself, we know another company which runs SAP on Z that takes several hours of downtime each week (early Sunday morning I think) to REORG some large BLOB tables(if you're not in the monthly conference call for SAP on DB2 z/OS organizations, I suggest you join in). The need for RUNSTATS and REORGs to be dealt with explicitly (typically once a day for RUNSTATs and once a week for REORGs, at least for us) is a major negative of the platform, in my opinion. It is amazing what "proper" RUNSTATS can do to a previously poor performing query(hours reduced to seconds!). Also, due to the way REORGs are handled in DB2 z/OS, you'll need a lot of extra disk space for the image copies which get created. In our experience you need enough temp disk to hold the shadow copy of the largest table being REORGd and the image copies of the largest tables that are REORGd in the same time period. I recall that the image copies can be migrated to tape or virtual tape to free the image copy space back up using a periodic job, but it was a huge amount of trial and error to properly size this temp disk space, especially when the tables requiring a REORG are not the same week-to-week. We heard that with DB2 z/OS v10 that RUNSTATS and REORGs will be dealt with automatically by DB2, but I do not know if it has even been certified for SAP yet(based on recent posts in this forum it would appear not). Even when it is, I would not recommend going to it immediately(we made this mistake when DB2 z/OS v9 was certified and suffered for months getting bugs with SAP and DB2 interoperability fixed). Also, due to the way that REORGs work on BLOB tables, there will be a period of table unavailability. The caused us some issues/headaches. There are some extra REORG parameters you can set, but these issues are still always a possibility and I think that is why the company mentioned previously just took the weekly downtime to finish the REORGs on their large BLOB tables. They are very smart folks that are very experienced with zSeries and they engaged IBM experts for assistance to try and perform the REORGs online and yet they still take the downtime to perform the BLOB REORGs offline. In contrast, these periodic database tasks do not require our Basis team to do anything with SQLServer and do not cause our end-users grief when a table is unavailable.
Our reasons for moving platforms (which, let me assure you was a major undertaking and was considered long and hard) were based on 3 things:
    1. Complexity
    2. Performance
    3. Cost
When I speak of complexity, let me give you some data... There was a time when ~50% of all of the OSS messages the Basis team opened with SAP were in the BC-DB-DB2 category. In contrast, I think we've opened 1 or 2 OSS messages in the BC-DB-MSS category ever. Many of the OSS messages for DB2 z/OS resulted in a fix from either SAP or from IBM. We've had seveal instances of applying a PTF, ++APAR, or RSU to z/OS and/or DB2 which fixed serious "unable to perform a job function" problems with SAP. We've yet to have to apply a single update to Windows or SQLServer to fix an issue with SAP.
To summarize... Comparing our previous and current SAP platforms, the performance was slower, the cost higher, and the complexity much higher. I have no doubt (especially with the newer Z10 and zEnterprise 196) that we could certainly have built a zSeries SAP solution which performed on par with what we have now, but.... I could not even fathom a guess as to the cost. I suspect this is why you don't see any data  for the standard SAP SD benchmark on zSeries.
I suspect you're already committed to the platform since deploying a Z machine, even in a lab/sandbox environment isn't as easy as going down to your local computer dealer and buying a $500 test server to install on, but... If you wanted to run SAP on DB2 I would suggest looking at DB2 LUW on either X86_64 Linux or on IBM's pSeries platform.

  • Upgrade from CS3 extended (Windows) to CS5 MAC - Invalid Serial Number

I just purchased an upgrade by 'phone form Adobe (UK). I specifically asked about moving platforms and was told that this was not a problem.
However, when I tried to install the upgrade it installer would not accept the serial number from the CS3 box stating it was invalid.
    What should I do now?

You need to work this out with support. Whoever you had on the line wasn't particularly well-informed it would seem. Platform swapping requires extra steps as laid out here. Once you fileld out the form, you receive a different serial and that will work then.

  • CS4 keyboard stops working

When I'm working in InDesign, my keyboard will completely stop working. I can still use my mouse and click into text boxes, but I'm not able to edit text. I can still use other programs and the keyboard works. Occasionally, I can switch back to InDesign and the keyboard will work. This happens quite often, regardless of restarting the program or my computer. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Just to update: I did have admin rights (I've always been logged in as the admin of the system). So this issue happened to me a number of times in Vista, but also in XP. The Adobe suite eventually begins to corrupt the OS registry and my only resolution each time was to reinstall windows entirely. Not a simple solution, but it worked for several months at a time.
My big final solution? I bought a MAC. I hate to say something so blunt, it sounds absolutely nuts. But there's no registry on a MAC and since I moved to the MAC platform everything has been stable. I'm a lifelong PC person, but the MAC has really made my workday a lot easier.
I'm sure moving platforms is not an option for most people, but when I added up the cost of my not being able to work for two days over and over - I had SPENT the money I could use to buy a MAC. I even bought a brand new PC before making the decision (with a beefy hard drive and processor) and the problem started almost immediately again (no extra software save for MS Office). Adobe will let you change your software license from PC to MAC (however they will not allow you to download it, you have to wait for it to arrive by mail).
It is one option to consider, however who knows. Maybe the problem will be solved in CS5 that comes out next month.

We need to know if (and how if possible) a WLC may control several APs, configured in a parallel grid array as bridges:

We would want to know if we can regulate how the right antenaes connect to the left. Right antenaes need to be on a moving platform, and there is no possible interconnection among the AP(r).

  • Problem with Acrobat Hyperlinks to packaged PDF's not working when moved to PC platform

    Hello,
I'm having a little issue with the new Acrobat CC.
I have a master PDF presentation that includes Hyperlinks (set up in Acrobat) that link to external pdf files (packaged in a sub-folder from the source PDF file).
On a number of macs they work fine, opening in Acrobat / Reader. But when transferred to a PC platform the link clicks but none of the files are opening.
I'm geting no dialogue boxes or error messages, just does nothing.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Second question: I can't seem to link an image that I inserted on a "My Photos" template page. There is no way to select the image--when I do, it just shows the "blue box" around the image but it doesn't actually select the image itself so I can link it.
This is correct, you cannot make the image holders hyperlinks. The solution is to put a Shape over the top of the image that you want to be a link, then Opn Inspector, Graphic Link and make the Opacity 1%, no more no less. Then make this shape a link. Beware that this image will still display in a slideshow and if you insert more images and it moves, the shape will not move with it.
You may also want to click on the shape and then go Arrange > Bring to Front.

  • Problem when moving our app to Linux platform

    Hi to all,
My app uses Java swings which will work only on windows (platform dependent).
We used Windows LookandFeel and font for labels as Arial, Tahoma... and set the size for each component according to the windows look and feel, while we developed our app.
If we change the look and feel to Metal look and feel, labels will not be displayed fully. (Instead of displaying the label as Observation, it displays Observ...). Everywhere in the view, we were facing this problem if we change the look and fell.
Now we are trying to make our app to be platform independent for which we are working with Linux.
While working with linux, there is no windows look and feel and no font called Tahoma or Arial.
Because no font called Arial or Tahoma exist and there is no windows look and feel, Instead of displaying the label as Experimenting, it is displaying as Experim..... This problem occurs everywhere in my apps.
Also wherever we used Labels in the classes (nearly some 150 class), we specified the font as Tahoma.
Is there any alternative in Java like Macros (Preprocessor) in C, so that wherever we used the word Tahoma, everywhere it will be changed, if i change it in one place.
    Thanks in advance.

    Bala wrote:
But how to make the components fully visible and avoid the above problem, even if we change different look and feel and runs on different platforms?IMO: the only real way is to use a cross-platform look & feel so the app looks the same on all environments - it doesn't have to be a built-in one, there are plenty of cool look & feels to be found on the net. In any other case its the same as developing a website: where you would have to create CSS and test it under each browser that you want to support, in the case of Swing you have to create the GUI with system look & feel and test it under every environment that you want to support; tinker and adjust until it works everywhere.
Another option which is even more of an overhaul is to build on top of the Netbeans platform, which is designed to display correctly in Windows, Mac and Linux (although you can probably still screw it up if you're not careful) and also gives you access to advanced features such as docking windows.

  • Thinking about moving to X1 platform, but have many questions.

So, for the last two months, I have been getting emails offering me a free "upgrade" to the X1 platform.  My current setup:3 Tivo DVR's - two 4 tuner and one 2 tuner  Mainly use one of the 4 tuner boxes and the 2 tunerStandard def cable box that is not connected, 105Mbit Internet, Xfinity Voice The Tivo's work real good, but are costly at nearly $60/month for their service Plus the 9.99 cable card fee each. My questions on X1 If I were to go to a single X1 DVR, and two X1 "Terminal Boxes" (That's what the local xfinity store called them), What do the terminal boxes use from the main DVR?  To clarify, If the DVR is recording 4 channels I was told it could view one other.  In a situation like that what could the Terminal boxes view at that time?  Could they only see one of the 5 channels (the four recorded ones or the live one) or could they stream something else that was recorded earlier?  Could they stream on demand content or streampix content?   The local xfinity store said I could only have 1 X1 DVR in my household, but from what I've been reading here, several people seem to have two, so was the rep at the local store wrong? Thank you in advance for any answers or recommendations.   Rick

The situation in regards to available tuners and recordings is changing rapidly. X1 DVRs just activated the 6th tuner and they placed a priority on recording over live TV. So at the moment you can record 6 programs as long your are watching one of the 6 recordings.
There are two X1 Companion boxes. The Xi3 is the more desireable Companion box but it does "steal" a tuner from the X1 DVR in order to watch live TV. Please study the comparison because it will answer your questions: http://customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support/cable-tv/x1-hub-vs-companion-box/
Multiple DVRs are allowed in most markets but some still don't. I have three but I had to pull strings. Please be aware that multiple X1 DVRs are not independent. They pool their resources. You cannot "hide" the recording list on one DVR from the other X1. You can prevent the actual playback but all X1 boxes in the house will see the record list on all DVRs.
Pricing aside, most people would agree that TiVo is a vastly superior DVR to the X1 DVR. The X1 DVRs have an almost appalling lack of basic features and flexibility. They have almost no adjustments over guide views. Ability to customize favorites is extremely limited and inflexible.
I would STRONGLY recommend that you spend more time reading in this forum. I also think that you should go to a Comcast location (or a friends house) and test X1 before you order.

  • Moving DS application from BI platform to Netweaver Platform

    HI All,
I have developed a Dashboard project with BW queries in Design Studio(1.3) application in BI BOBJ 4.1 SP 3 and its working fine.
All my data sources are BW queries.
Now we want to see if we can deploy the application directly on Netweaver  platform instead of BOBJ and create an Portal iView based out of Design Studio application.
Please let me know the steps to migrate the reports.
    Thanks for your help,
    Manju

    Hi Tammy,
Thanks for the replay. In my case what I have done is when I created application.I have directly created it on BI platform not on my local and now I need to move this application to BW platform this is where I am stuck.
Please let me know if we have a way to download the application as a local application and upload it to BW platform or if I can directly move to BW platform
    Thanks,

  • Moving Solution Manager content across platforms

I have a pretty good understanding of Solution Manager's capabilities but need to make a decision about the platform to install it on for our project.
We want to get something up and running quickly so we can learn from it, but this probably wont be the final platform that we use for our implementation and production running.
How difficult is it to take Solution Manager content from an installed server and move it to another one? Can this be done? Will it result in much "downtime" for our project?
What if the final platform is totally different from the initial one - say from SQL Server/Windows to Oracle/AIX - will we still be able to move developed content from old to new?

    > What if the final platform is totally different from the initial one - say from SQL Server/Windows to Oracle/AIX - will we still be able to move developed content from old to new?
You can do system copies - but the "content" (means solutions, EWAs) are not that easy to transfer since they depend on the CRM structure (Businesspartners, roles of them etc.)
We are in the same situation of having an upgraded SolMan (initally started with 2.1 over 3.1/3.2 to 4.0 with Unicode conversion) with > 7.000 support desk messages which we don't want to loose. Our research to move those messages to a freshly installed SolMan turned out to be too complicated and needing too much time - thus we decided to freeze the current SolMan at some point soon and install a new one and start the implementation from scratch.
It may be possible to export/import certain configurations/settings but as far as I know there is no standard procedure for this.
