Moving previous backups from timemachine to timecapsule

What is the best strategy for moving previous backups done by timemachine on another external drive to timecapsule?
Obviously, some of us will want to keep these backups when we move over to timecapsule.

Cable the Mac (to which the external hard drive is connected) to one of the LAN ports on Time Capsule. Then copy the files. Over an ethernet cabled connection the transfer shouldn't take very long.

Sorry no as you wipe the current data when you restore from your backup.

  • How do you restore previous backup from iTunes to iPhone?

How do you restore previous backup from iTunes to iPhone?  I did something wrong as now nothing is on my phone but several questions such as language, etc. They keep repeating.  When I turn phone completely off, the same thing happens when I turn it on.  It is very frustrating now to have no phone service or anything at all on my phone.

It sounds as if the phone is waiting to be activated. Did you update software or something like that on the phone? You can either try to finish the Setup routine, or you can connect the device to iTunes on the computer and then after selecting the iPhone in the device pane, click on the button that says Restore a Backup.

  • How do i delete the previous backups from HP surestore PD5000z?

I have been using the HP PD5000z to backup my main hard drive for a couple of years.
I now receive the error that the back up is too large and need to either reduce the files being backed up or delete files from the PD5000z.
How do i know which files to delete from the previous back ups on the PD5000z?
The amount of space used on the main drive is 476GB versus a back up drive size of 500GB, so there is enough total space.  The previous backups are taking up too much space?
    Thanks

We restored her new iphone 5s from a backup on icloud from her previous iphone 5. it was restoring for two weeks! we called apple and eventually reset and started over. verizon had us do this again a week and a half later. still, now, its been over two and a half weeks and the phone will not restore from her icloud backup. she has alot of our pictures from the recent past holidays and pictures in icloud that we dont want to loose. along with all her itunes purchases.she is starting to get really upset. i know her backup was a fairly big one but if icloud sold her the storage to do the backup. why cant we get her phone to restore from this icloud backup? Is it the device? is that covered under our apple care? or under our phone warranty? Is it the size of the backup? im so lost and want to help her. I, writing this on the support community to see if you guys can help us. i really dont wat to spend another grand on a phone. thank you for your time. thanks for reading. happy holidays to you all..

Essentially it would mean another Internet connection yes, however it's your local network that I am wondering about and whether it could be the problem.

  • Moving "previous recipients" from Snow Leopard to Yosemite

    Hi all,
My Macbook Pro died. RAM came loose and so it couldn't boot.
It was time for a new laptop anyway so I bought a new one.
My old machine ran Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and was backed up with Time Machine.
My new machine has Yosemite (10.10.2)
I chose not to use Time Machine to restore everything from my old machine to my new machine. I had a lot of junk on the old machine that I didn't want anymore, so I've been reinstalling things individually and grabbing individual files from the Time Machine backup folders.
I'm trying to figure out how to get all my Previous Recipients imported into Mac Mail.
I found a few posts on the internet but their pretty old and they reference Address Book and Yosemite uses Contacts so I'm not sure how to proceed.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Also, both my email accounts are gmail-based so if there's some way to get the addresses from gmail online, I could do that too.
    Thanks in advance.
    P

I think I may have figured it out.
It looks like in Yosemite, the recents now lives here:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd/Data/Library/Recents/Recents
The Recents file is an sqlite3 file which you can browse (and export to CSV) with sqlitebrowser.
Previously, and I'm not sure when they made the switch (maybe Lion?; around Oct 2013 is the last my file was edited) it used to live here:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/SyncedPreferences/com.apple.mai l-com.apple.mail.recents.plist
I'm not sure of an easy way to import from the plist file, but you could always skim the file in a text editor and grab what you need. Not elegant, but it would work. If I figure something else out, I'll let you know.

  • How to restore file system of the previous backup from OSB using webtool?

    Dear all,
I have some problem regarding to the file system restoration.
For example, I have backed up some files yesterday and today those files have been made change.
So tomorrow I am planning to restore the files from the yesterday backup (the original files before made changes) to other host for testing the data.
Is it possible to do that, since when i restore i can see only the latest ones and search options during restoration are not working well (as date, date range,.....) ?
Your reply to me is very important.
    Thanks and regards,
    Rasmey

There is no recovery partition on drives which haven't had 10.7 or 10.8 installed. You need to use a Mac OS X install DVD to restore the backup.

  • Moving Previous Recipients from old Mac to new Mac??

I set up my new MacBook using the Mac Set Up Assistant copying all the information from my MacBookPro. It looks like 95%+ was transferred perfectly. Both Mac's use OS X 10.5.4.
One thing that did not transfer was the Previous Recipients in Mail. All the accounts transferred, all the old mail transferred and even the SPAM filters transferred. But not the Previous Recipient list.
I have a large number of Previous Recipients that I don't really want to have Address Book vCards for, but I do want to be able to search for their e-mail addresses when I need to send something out.
    Does any one know:
1- Where the Previous Recipient file is kept?
2- Is there any special concerns in transferring that file to my new MacBook?
    Thanks
    Tim
Message was edited by: timmilner for clarification`

that file should have transfered. that list is kept in homdirectory/library/application support/address book/MailRecents-v4.abcdmr. If it didn't transfer for some reason, transfer it by hand. there are no problems with doing that.

How do I move previous iTune purchases from an old account to my new account?  The old account was previously set up for work use.

You can't since they were purchased using a different Apple ID. You will need to ask Apple to make such a change.

  • Importing contacts to Elm from PC suite (previous backup from W595)

I have just had to replace my W595 with an Elm and am trying to import the contacts from PC Suite but there is an error every time. I previously had a W995 which I lost and purchased a 595 and there was no problem transferring the contacts. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
If the back up is not restoring to your Sony Ericsson Elm, I would suggest attempting to extract the contacts from the Back up file so you can transfer these to your Elm using Synchronisation.
To extract the contacts, you would need to following the below instructions on your PC:
    1. Go to My Documents > Sony Ericsson > Sony Ericsson PC Suite > Phone Back ups
    2. Right click on the .dbk file and select Copy
    3. Right click anywhere in the window and select Paste
    4. Right click on either of the .dbk files and select Rename
    5. Delete “dbk” and replace with “zip” so that the files reads C902.zip for example
    6. You can then open the file to see it’s contents
    7. Double click on Contacts and you should be able to add to Windows Address Book
You may need to install an archiver tool such as Win Rar to open the zip file and view the contacts.vcf.
Once you can see all the contacts in Windows Address Book, you can connect your Elm to the PC Suite and use the Synchronisation feature. This should put all your contacts from here onto your new handset.
I hope this helps. Let me know how you get on. If you need any more help, feel free to ask or send me a message.

  • Moving previous recipients from OS 10.5.8 to 10.8.2

How do I move previous recipients file from OS 10.5.8 to 10.8.2?

    Try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc.
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
          logo appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now quit Disk Utility and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.

  • Can I delete the previous backups from iCloud on my iPhone 5?

I just got My iPhone 5 as well as a iPad 4. But I purchased the wrong iPad - before I returned the first one it backed itself up with iCloud and as we'll as the info from my iPhone 4S. It shows that I'm out of storage space but when I go to manage my storage I have info from I phone 4s and my first iPad 4 purchase. I exchanged my first iPad 4 a few days after because I wanted wifi as well as the other 3 or 4 g service.
i Think I'm just taking up space but what's actually stored is just the same crap over and over.

Go to settings-icloud-storage and back up and you can see each back up on your icloud, and delete the ones you don't want.

  • When I connected my new iphone 4S to the computer the first thing it asked me was to rename it, why didnt it ask me to choose a previous backup from the phone or from the computer first?

The first step it gave me was to rename my new phone which i did and it has caused many problems for me, it didnt back up my calender, camera roll, notes or even contacts on my new iphone but they still show up for the old one, I dont understand what the problem is, the iphone had started up and was at the main screen and the computer just asked what should the new device be called it never started with the process to either select as new phone or to back it up, why is that????

I think we both have the same issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3714941?start=0&tstart=0

  • Cannot restore iPhone 6 from a previous Backup

HELP!!!  Very excited this morning to receive my shiny new iPhone 6; non bendy version!  However, what on earth has gone wrong with the restore from Backup process.  I have been a faithful iPhone user now since their first introduction, and upgrading from previous models to the next has always been unbelievably simple.  With the new iPhone 6, I am now approaching my 5th HOUR of trying to set it up from my previous backup, and its still failing.
What is going on, and does anyone have a solution?  Is it a problem with the new phone, or is it a compatibility issue with iTunes / Apps / Music, etc.?
I have managed to get passed the App transfer stage by unplugging and plugging the lightning cable in every time the process froze.  Then it froze again on pictures, so I resolved again by unplugging and plugging back in.  However, now its got to (I think) the stage to restore my Music collection, and the top bar says "Syncing "<phone>" (Step 6 of 6) - Waiting for changes to be applied", and thats it.  Frozen again and will not move on, despite restarting phone and iTunes.  I can also hit the "x" next to the message, and it does stop, but restarting still seems to stall, and I cannot continue.
    What do I do???
    Mark

    Thanks Nick.
I'm on a MAC, so was hoping all would be smooth and straight forward, as per previous phone updates.  I'd already tried the second USB port and then using the new cable out of the box, but no change sadly.  I've even gone as far as moving previous backups from the MobileSync directory and starting completely afresh, but this didn't work either.
Problem with starting as a New Phone is, unless I'm mistaken, I'd lose all of my other stored items - Texts, Notes, Contacts, etc. - which I really need transferred.  Very exasperating!  I don't understand why it's always worked and, since Mr Jobs is no longer there, everything "Apple" seems a bit FLAKEY!!  Or is it me??
    Thanks again.
