Moving previous recipients from OS 10.5.8 to 10.8.2

How do I move previous recipients file from OS 10.5.8 to 10.8.2?

Try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc.
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
  4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
      logo appears.
  5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now quit Disk Utility and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.

  • Moving Previous Recipients from old Mac to new Mac??

I set up my new MacBook using the Mac Set Up Assistant copying all the information from my MacBookPro. It looks like 95%+ was transferred perfectly. Both Mac's use OS X 10.5.4.
One thing that did not transfer was the Previous Recipients in Mail. All the accounts transferred, all the old mail transferred and even the SPAM filters transferred. But not the Previous Recipient list.
I have a large number of Previous Recipients that I don't really want to have Address Book vCards for, but I do want to be able to search for their e-mail addresses when I need to send something out.
    Does any one know:
1- Where the Previous Recipient file is kept?
2- Is there any special concerns in transferring that file to my new MacBook?
    Thanks
    Tim

that file should have transfered. that list is kept in homdirectory/library/application support/address book/MailRecents-v4.abcdmr. If it didn't transfer for some reason, transfer it by hand. there are no problems with doing that.

  • Moving "previous recipients" from Snow Leopard to Yosemite

    Hi all,
My Macbook Pro died. RAM came loose and so it couldn't boot.
It was time for a new laptop anyway so I bought a new one.
My old machine ran Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and was backed up with Time Machine.
My new machine has Yosemite (10.10.2)
I chose not to use Time Machine to restore everything from my old machine to my new machine. I had a lot of junk on the old machine that I didn't want anymore, so I've been reinstalling things individually and grabbing individual files from the Time Machine backup folders.
I'm trying to figure out how to get all my Previous Recipients imported into Mac Mail.
I found a few posts on the internet but their pretty old and they reference Address Book and Yosemite uses Contacts so I'm not sure how to proceed.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Also, both my email accounts are gmail-based so if there's some way to get the addresses from gmail online, I could do that too.
    Thanks in advance.
    P

I think I may have figured it out.
It looks like in Yosemite, the recents now lives here:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd/Data/Library/Recents/Recents
The Recents file is an sqlite3 file which you can browse (and export to CSV) with sqlitebrowser.
Previously, and I'm not sure when they made the switch (maybe Lion?; around Oct 2013 is the last my file was edited) it used to live here:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/SyncedPreferences/com.apple.mai l-com.apple.mail.recents.plist
I'm not sure of an easy way to import from the plist file, but you could always skim the file in a text editor and grab what you need. Not elegant, but it would work. If I figure something else out, I'll let you know.

  • Import Previous Recipients from another Mac?

I need to import the previous recipients from another Mac. The importing OS is Tiger 10.4.
I have figured out how to import Address Book data which was exported from a Windows machine as a .csv file. That worked beautifully.
But I don't see any means of importing previous recipients which it seems is only a simple list of names and email addresses.
Anyone know how to do it?
    Thanks.

Just answered my own question. Turns out the import of the Address Book data also imported supplied the Previous Recipient function with the data it needed.
You guys are great! Just ask the question and it works before getting an answer!

  • Previous Recipients from Mail Account Not on Mac?

I have two email accounts on my iPhone but only one on my Mac.  On my Mac, I see previous recipients from contacts I've emailed on my iPhone from the account that is not on my Mac.  I also do not sync my iPhone to my Mac.  Why does this happen and how can I disable it?  The account I am getting the previous recipients from doesn't exist whatsoever on my Mac and the two accounts have no connections with each other.

One is iCloud which is on the Mac and then both the iCloud and Exchange are in my phone.

I apologize. I didn't see that you hadn't updated to iOS 7. That's an iOS 7 option. With iOS 6, you'd need to restore the device as new. Note that that will result in your phone being updated to iOS 7.
    Best of luck.

  • Moving Previous Recipients in Mail to New Computer?

Is there a method of moving the Previous Recipients in Mail from Mac OS X (10.4.11) over to a new MacBook Pro (10.6.4)? I don't want to have to put them all into my address book, but I find it useful to find old names and emails addresses occasionally and would like to keep using it.
Thanks very much for your help.

It sounds like you are doing things the hard way.
Is there a reason you didn't use Setup Assistant? If you still have the older Mac, you can do it with a FireWire cable, or with an Ethernet cable if your old Mac doesn't have FireWire. It makes the whole process a snap. It worked for me when I moved from a 2005 PowerPC eMac running 10.5, to an iMac running Snow Leopard. Everything came right over, including my Previous Recipients. It was "like magic".
You might want to consider starting over with Setup Assistant; I guarantee it will be faster and easier than trying to move items over piecemeal.
Otherwise, just copy over your entire Mail folder from /Users/yourhomefolder/Library. That should get everything Mail-related.

  • Deleting Previous Recipients from List

I cannot delete unwanted addresses from my Previous Recipient List. None of the addresses show a "Last Used" date past 2008. Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?

Make sure there are no addresses in the Previous Recipients that you need, then quit Address Book and Mail and delete ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/MailRecents-v4.abcdmr

  • Previous recipients - from old computer?

Is it possible to copy the 'Previous Recipients' file from my old G$ running OS 10.3.9 to my new Mac Mini with Leopard?
I am always being asked by my Boss to send an e-mail to 'that person who sent us one last year'. Since I probably never put that person into my Address Book, I rely a lot on the Previous Recipients list to fill in the blanks.
Please, someone, save my sanity (and save me from clumping my Boss next time he asks me that) - tell me how!
    Thanks!

If the old machine is still available, why not move the ones you want from Previous Recipients to Address Book, gather them into a group, and export the group for to import on the new machine?

  • Moving previous backups from timemachine to timecapsule

What is the best strategy for moving previous backups done by timemachine on another external drive to timecapsule?
Obviously, some of us will want to keep these backups when we move over to timecapsule.

Cable the Mac (to which the external hard drive is connected) to one of the LAN ports on Time Capsule. Then copy the files. Over an ethernet cabled connection the transfer shouldn't take very long.

You can't since they were purchased using a different Apple ID. You will need to ask Apple to make such a change.

  • Where is "Previous Recipients" located

    Hi All,
I have a very sick Mail.app. It no longer has default black font for non junk mail. It no longer filters junk mail by the advanced rules (just plain ignores them,) And training mode caches nothing after some 200 have been marked as junk over the last month. The junk filter has been corrupted in some manor. It has actual been quirky since I went from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 (by disk). So I intend on junking all of mail and reloading from my tiger disks using D.B. Cooper.app. But I want to save my "Previous Recipients" from the the "Windows" drop-down but I cannot find where "Previous recipients" is located. Can some one give me a Path?
    Jim
    thanks for all your help.
P.S. I too do not like the changes that have been made to this forum
    G5D2/2.5Gs/410in+500out/23HD   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I too have been looking for this for a long time, but checked on Library, Application Support, even examined package contents of Mail and could not find it. It is dumb for Spotlight not to be able to help find a file that contains OUR non-application-code data. I read somewhere else that it is kept with ADDRESSBOOK (so copying AddressBook folder to somewhere else should copy that data also), which is strange to keep it there since it is MAIL data. Anyway, I looked but cannot find a file or resource with that. Still looking.

  • Previous recipients in Mail Address

When I addressed one email, I discovered that I had four addresses for that person and wanted to delete the three now incorrect ones. After I had entered the wrong address, I held down the command key while clicking on it and the pop-up menu appeared so that I could click on "Delete" which just removed the address from the email message. However, when I re-addressed the email with that same address, I held down something while I clicked on the address and the pop-up menu appeared again; this time it had a new option that read something like "Remove address from previous recipients list". Clicking on it removed that incorrect address. However, I have not been able to reproduce that same menu thru which I could remove the other incorrect addresses for that person.
Question: how can I reproduce that menu to remove the incorrect addresses? Or where can I go to find it?
    Thanks for your help.
    Vernon

In mails menubar, select "window" and then Previous recipients from the drop down list.

  • Previous Recipients flagged as Junk

I have a friend who finds that mail gets flagged as Junk even though she presses the Not Junk button each time. Their addresses are in the Previous Recipients because they appear in the popup menu when she types their name in the To: field of a new message. Her preferences are set to exempt Previous Recipients from junk mail filtering. I also had her disable all her custom rules.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
    Thanks!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

A common cause for this kind of problems is having tinkered with the Junk Mail > Advanced settings without fully understanding how the junk filter works. Try this:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
    3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).
