Moving projects and imported media from computer to EHD

Hello all
I have just recently finished a project in  FCPX and all the media is stored on my Macs hard drive. I am wanting to move this project to my EHD, so its not taking up so much space on my computers HD. But in doing so i also want to be able to go back and edit the project at anytime. Can anyone help me out on how to move everything over. I tried to copy the project folder itself but says that the file volume is to small to copy over.
Thanks

Tom,
When I duplicate the project to a properly formatted EHD as you have suggested, fcpx accurately creates duplicate event and project files on the EHD, however it also creates an exact duplicate event in the event library i.e. with the identical name and contents as ther original - 2 exact event files.  Is this normal?

  • Why does my project and imported media in browser missing frames?

    Hello!!!
I have been using Final Cut Pro for about 6 months now and loved everything about it! However, since I have updated my software system and app itself I have been experiencing "missing frames" during playback and in the clip itself in my event browser. I have tried downloading Preference Manager to resolve the problem and it still doesnt help. What is the problem? Why does this happen? and what can I do? Is it an import setting? or maybe a recording setting on my camera.
Please a solution would be greatly appreciated as I have deadlines to make and I can't fluently edit my projects.
Additional info: when I export a file that misses frames during playback it is smooth and nothing seems wrong.
    Thanks guys!!!

    Some things to check:
Your media drive should have 15-20% free space. Does it after your clean up?
What kind of connection…Thunderbolt and USB3?
Is quality set to Better Performance?
If the answers to all of the above are yes, and you're still having problems, download and run one of the speed tests from ALA or Blackmagic.
Create proxy media and edit with Proxy, (Don't forget to change the setting back to Original/Optimized before you export.)

  • Can anyone help me with process of moving only my pics and music (purchased and imported cds) from a old G5 to a new iMac. Thanks Dan

Can anyone help me with process of moving only my pics and music (purchased and imported cds) from a old G5 to a new iMac. Thanks Dan

The easiest way is to connect the G5 and your new iMac together via Firewire.  Then you can use what is called "Target Disk Mode" which basically makes the G5 look like an external hard drive to your iMac.  The potential gotcha is if your new iMac does not have a Firewire port.  In that case, you need to get the Apple Thunderbolt-Firewire adapter in order to connect the two machines (as far as I know, all G5's had one or more Firewire ports).  I have done this many times, it's easy and works perfectly.
Alternatively, you could connect both Macs to the same network and log into the G5 from your iMac.  This involves going into System Preferences > Sharing on the G5 and turning on File Sharing and then logging in from your iMac to the G5 as if it were a server.   (Logging in through the Finder or via Go > Connect to Server).  This also works fine but it's a little more involved than using Target Disk Mode.  I do this all the time and it too works fine.
Either way, once the two Macs are connected, you will use the Finder on your iMac to copy files/folders from your G5 the same as you would from any external hard drive.  Regarding iTunes, you could just copy your entire iTunes library over to your iMac being careful to put it in the same relative folder location:   /users/yourusername/Music/iTunes   This method will preserve your playlists and album art.  Alternatively you could go into iTunes and do Add to Library but I'm not completely sure doing it that way will bring over your album art and it certainly won't bring over your playlists.
I see no reason to use a separate external hard drive.  It will just double the time it takes to transfer your files because you would first have to copy everything to the hard drive, then in a second step copy everything from the hard drive to your iMac.
Note:  In all cases there is the possibility that you may need to change file & folder permissions on the things you copy over so you can access (read & write) to these folders & files once copied to your new iMac.  This is not a difficult process.

Trying to move my iTunes Music and other media from the main drive on my pc to an external hard drive but iTunes is not recognizing the new file location?  Ideas?

    Hello there, Underwriter.
The following Knowledge Base article provides in-depth instructions on how to migrate your content to an external drive:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
Particularly of note for your situation:
    External drive
This option requires more work than Home Sharing, but it creates a backup of your iTunes library on the external drive in addition to moving your content.
    Notes before you start:
You can use most iPods as an external drive.
Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Because of this, you can't use a Mac-formatted iPod or external drive to move your music to a Windows PC. See iPod: How to determine iPod's hard disk format if you're not sure how your iPod is formatted.
Mac OS X can read Windows-formatted iPods and drives. This means there are many ways to migrate your information from your old Windows-based PC to your new Mac.
Mac OS X: To be sure external drives appear on your desktop, choose Preferences from the Finder menu. Be sure the options for "External disks" and "Hard disks" are enabled.
Part 1: Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder
Part 2: Copy iTunes folder from the old computer:
Part 3: Get iTunes ready on your new computer
Part 4: Back up any music that's already on your new computer
Part 5: Copy music to your new computer
Part 6: Add preexisting music that was on the new computer back into the library
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Import media from card vs. Finder

Is it a bad idea to Import MOVs straight from the Finder to FCPx as opposed to Importing from the original card structure? The only difference I see it the "Camera Name" and "Reel" columns are blank, but maybe there is something else I am missing.
    Let me back up:
I'm seeing signifigantly slower read/write speeds when I import media that are within the original CF card data structure as opposed to when I import files that are "loose" in the Finder.
I have cloned my source cards from the CF media to my RAID, which is where I am importing from (there is no card attached to my computer).
I am importing to an Event that is on the same RAID as my cloned card.
When I use FCPx to Import media from the cloned card on my RAID, I am seeing read/write speeds of about 20MB/s.
If I copy the MOV files from the cloned card to the "Original Media" folder in my Event (again, on the same RAID as my cloned card), I get speeds around 300MB/s. If I import the MOVs that I copied to the "Original Media" folder, the Import into FCPx is instant.
    Thanks

try this plugin. it will import directly to FCP X from cam

  • Best way to export and import data from an iPhone app?

How do people here prefer to export and import data from an iPhone app?
For example, suppose your app creates or modifies a plist. It might be nice to provide that plist to the user for separate backup and later allow them to re-import it.
How do people do that? Email the plist to an address? If so, how would one later get it back in?
Is there a common way people do this kind of thing?
    Thanks,
    doug

Or maybe the best approach for this is some sort of file synchronization feature? Is there a way of having files from the app's filesystem automatically get stored on the computer's filesystem when synchronizing and vice-versa?

  • Can't import photos from computer to my phone

I have recently updated my q10 to the 10 OS (10.2.1.2977) and also my desktop support to blackberry link. I am able to sync and import music, documents, videos etc. but when attempting to sync pictures I am faced with a sign that says loading sync relationships or it says sync currently not available. All the instructions on the internet demonstrate a different blackberry link to the one I have, I have the newest version of blackberry link. I want to know how to import photos from computer on to my phone. Thanks x

  • How to export and import on another computer whole database connection

    Hi
how to export and import on another computer whole database connection with all contents ?
    step by step

From the "source" computer do this:
    1) Open SQLDeveloper.
    2) Right click on the main connections node and choose export connections.
    3) Select the connections you want exported and choose a file name and location to save them.
    4) Save the file by clicking OK then copy it to the destination PC.
On the "destination" PC assuming you have already installed SQLDeveloper do this:
    1) Open SQLDeveloper.
    2) Right click on the main connections node and choose import connections.
    3) Browse to the connections file you copied earlier and select the connection you saved.
    4) Complete the import by clicking OK and you are done.
Mind that this is sufficient only if you have only basic connections, if you have TNS connections you will also need to manually copy the Tnsnames file from the "source" PC to the "destination" PC and set the
Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> Advanced Tnsnames directory
to the directory where you copied the Tnsnames file.

  • How import pictures from Computer To itunes??

How import pictures from Computer To itunes??

I'd like to add some personal photos to my iTunes account, library...WHATEVER!...so that I can attempt to use them as screensaver pics for my Apple TV component. Screensaver takes to the screen while playing music from my iTunes library that displays on the TV screen. Understandable....but if I can transfer some of my personal photos into my iTunes library/account...whatever...I'm sure there's a way to use them on my screensaver, rather than looking at friggin' ducks, fish, and trees, etc. seems like a simple and obvious concept to me! How do I do it?

  • Netbeans - Why do I need to make separate library projects and import?

I'm running through some of the some of the tutorials for netbeans like [acrostic example|http://www.netbeans.org/kb/60/java/javase-intro.html] and I can't seem to grasp the organization.
When and why do I need to create a separate library project and import when the MyApp project I created has a node for libraries?
When and why would I just create another class in MyApp source packages node as opposed to importing the class from a separate library project?
Java's organization seemed simple until I tried the IDE. Help.

Thanks so much for the response, I really have been having problems with this.

Well, for starters, a lib project can be shared amongst many other projects. For another, you won't be deploying your app alongside NetBeans, so you'll need to provide all the libraries as well as your app when you do deploy. Having them all kept in a lib project makes this very simpleAfter pondering it I'm comfortable with the idea that MyApp's Library node shows what classes I have imported and that those classes, being custom classes, should be in a separate project.

When and why would I just create another class in MyApp source packages node as opposed to importing the class from a separate library project?I don't know. Not really sure what's prompted you to ask this one, to be honest. What do you mean?Ok, bear with me as I try to explain my confusion... If I right click on the Source Packages node of MyApp it presents me with the option to create a new java class. So why not just put all my custom classes and packages in the Source Package node of MyApp instead of putting them in library projects and importing them?
I tried this, assuming all classes within a package would have knowledge of each other, thus obviating import, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is that it?

Java's organization seemed simple until I tried the IDE. Help.Maybe you started using an IDE to soon? They're there to make your life easier. If that's not happening, you don't need it yetI might seem quite green, but I have to dive in to this because the application I am attempting to make requires the nice GUI editing of netbeans and will grow in complexity with time.

  • Can I connect 2 sony bravia's, a sony home theatre, 2 macbooks, 2 ipads, 3 iphones and a dell laptop and stream media from my apple devices to my tv?

Can I connect 2 sony bravia's, a sony home theatre, 2 macbooks, 2 ipads, 3 iphones and a dell laptop and stream media from my apple devices to my tv? I have a sony bravia 600 series and 700 series and a home theatre( sony 7100 series)

The only way to stream directly to your TV would be if it is an AirPlay-enabled device.
There are many AirPlay-enabled devices but I am not familiar with Sony's products. If yours do not specifically indicate AirPlay capability, then you need an AirPlay-enabled device such as an AppleTV connected to your Sony TV or Sony AVR.

  • How do I move projects and associated media to new Library?

I have accidentally made 3 little test projects in an "old" Library containing numerous long projects.
I now want to move the test projects and their media to a new Library specifically for them.
    How?

Drag the project over the desired library and before you release the mouse button hold down the command key.
You should see the green ball with the plus sign disappear. After you release, you'll be presented with a confirmation dialog.
Apparently, there is a bug in that that dialog always calls the destination library "Final Cut Pro", but that seems to be an oversight without other consequences.
