Moving PSE12 to new computer...  Help please!

I am trying to move my PSE12 from my laptop to a new desktop.  I cannot find a deactivation or a sign-in/sign-out.  Please help me!
Thanks!

Hi sbas54,
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

    Nevermind, I got it working.
I ended up extracting the new vob within MPEG Streamclip, which gave me an m2v and an aiff audio. I multiplexed those two back together in FFMpegX which gave me a complete VIDEO_TS folder with BUP and IFO files I needed.

I cannot for the life of me figure this out.

What you need to do is connect your phone to iTunes but do not click sync.  Go to File at the top and click transfer purchases from phone, that'll put all your apps into iTunes.  When it's done transferring, locate your phone on the sidebar and click it.  Then find the apps option above the picture of your iphone, you can select which apps you want or don't want on your phone.  After selecting your apps then you can sync.  Once you do this you should never have your problem anymore.

  • I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?

I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  (My new compute runs Windows 8.1) How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?  Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?

The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety .

  • Upgrading & moving LR to new computer

Hello! I would love some help.
I have a question with a few question in it!
I have been using LR3 for 2 years and have one catalogue that has been on the same computer the whole time.
I just bought a new mac and want to do 3 things:
    1. Get LR on to my new computer (yes I still have the cd and #)
    2. Upgrade to the newest LR (5 I think)
    3. Get my catalogue that I have been using for 2 years on to the new computer  and have it work with LR 5
I want all these things to work together, I am hoping that I will be able to upgrade to LR5 and still be able to use my old catalogue.
So my question is what should I do first? Get LR on new computer, then upgrade, then transfer catalogue and will it all work like that.
I would love any and all help!  -- thank you - Alibaba

    Separate the two tasks.
Upgrade on the same computer, once you are sure everything is working, then move everything to the new computer; OR
Move eveything to the new computer in LR3, once you are sure everything is working, upgrade to LR5.
It probably doesn't matter which order you this.

Also, throughout this entire process, do not use this as an opportunity to rearrange files and folders for any reason, do not try to "clean up" your folders or make the more logical. Move them to a new computer yes, but other than that, no rearranging or moving files or folders from here to there.

When I try to publish a video in CS5 it adds the extension .new. Help please!

Your video is encoded in a format that PS doesn't understand. It's as easy as that. AVIs are just containers that can contain a multitude of different CoDecs and settings. You will have to do some reading up on that matter and then use external programs like VirtualDub, MPEGStreamclip and otehrs to convert your file to something PS understands - if that realyl is what you need. Otehrwise simply move on to "real" video editing apps that can handle all that much better.

  • Playlists not showing up after moving itunes to new computer

moved itunes to new computer and used an externa;l harddrive to move "iTunes" folder over.  the most recent "setup" of itunes on old computer is not showing on new computer.  For example "music" file size on external drive is 133GB - on new computer itunes, only 33GB.  and, playlists have disapeared.  any ideas?

See Make a split library portable for some background on moving the library successfully. You need the main iTunes library.itl file, its supporting files and the Album Artwork folder as well.
If you can find that data it should be possible to put everything together in the right shape and make it work.
Otherwise I have two scripts called ImportDevicePlaylists and SyncStats which may prove useful.

Safe mode is not what you want in this case. Reboot to recovery mode - hold down cmd-R as the Mac reboots. Go past the language-selection screen, click the Utilities menu, then Terminal. Type:
    resetpassword
Followed by the return key, and follow the prompts. Reboot normally when done.

I keep this as a copy and paste. It's the same process for Mac as it is for a PC. Read it over and see what you think. Post back if you have questions.
The following was copied from this thread. This is essentially what you want to accomplish.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your Mac and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Read this thread and the support links as well. There are apps that you can purchase that will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad to your PC. Look at Photo Transfer App in the App store and you can search for others as well.

  • New Computer Help from Users Please?

My 6 yr old top of the line Dell is working erratically. I'd like to move up to CS4 from my favorite PS 7 and AI 10 and can't do that with this machine, much as I have loved it. I have 2-250G hard drives and made 4 partitions. Apparantly today, that is far too little. Can't add more anything.
What is the best set up I should have: Quad core or Dual core processor? How much ram? How big the hard drives? How much memory and how allocated?
And a biggie---PC or Mac or Mac/PC compatable? (All my files over many, many years are PC.)
Better to have a 'puter "made up" with specs I furnish?
2nd biggie: I don't want Vista but if I use anothe PC may have to use this and I wonder how those using this are faring......
I appreciate whatever experiences forum users can offer...thanks so much..MM

My 6 year old "upper midrange" Dell ( a Precision 450 "workstation") died in November. I also was very pleased with it, and got alot of use out of it. However...
The failure began as an intermittent startup problem. I would have to restart it several times before it would boot.
Upon investigation, I found the problem to be a CPU cooling fan that was intermittently failing to spin up. There is circuitry that senses whether the CPU fans are running. If not, the power supply does not deliver power to the hard drives and other components to start up the computer. While troubleshooting, the fan motor literally burned up before my eyes (smoke, smell, and all).
Looking locally for a fan was fruitless and time-wasteful. None would fit. Dell's price for a replacement was over $150. I found one at an online house for $35. This was the weekend before a business trip, so I ordered the fan, so it would be here the following weekend when I returned.
It was. But replacing the fan did not fix the problem. Investigation at a shop revealed that when the fan burnt, it took other components with it. The motherboard was fried. So now I was faced with needing to replace the machine, having needlessly wasted a week of down-time due to the proprietary fan. A replacement MB from somewhere besides Dell would not fit.
Again, I have no complaints with the machine. It served me well for longer than I even realized (time flies). I was due for a new one.
But beside my studio, we have a houseful of Dells. On them, we have had numerous failures including several power supplies. That also is not unusual. But the frustration in each case was a needlessly proprietary case or design, requiring replacements to come from Dell, at exhorbitant prices, and with what should have been unnecessary down-time.
Growing tired of the proprietary treatment of what should have been locally replaceable parts, I decided I would look into building my own, and began the research. In the process, I came across XI Computing, a computer builder which essentially puts together the system you want from mainstream, off-the-shelf components. XI specializes in workstation-class boxes.
I found XI to be extremely helpful, very comfortable to talk to and deal with. No funny buisness; no pushiness. The price of my new machine ended up about what I was going to spend by building it myself after alot of shopping around.
So I now am using a very nice XI-built system with a Core i7 CPU (I read somewhere that the OS sees that as 8 cores), two 360GB disks, 6GB RAM, an upper-midrange graphics card, an Asus motherboard, a 950w power supply, all in a very nice, quiet, well-built CoolerMaster case with tons of room to expand. I'm convinced it's the best value I've ever bought in a new computer. After its 3 yr. warranty is expired, whatever fails can be replaced with off-the-shelf components bought locally, if I choose to.
It's new, so I can't claim to have a long-term endorsement with XI for you. But I had two rather detailed conversations with them while deciding on the configuration and had one occasion to call after receiving the
very protectively-packaged computer. On all three occasions, the phone was answered by a very knowledgeable and courteous human being, at their facility in CA with no waiting (yes, even on the tech support call).
My sons are due for new high-end gaming systems this year, and I have all expectations those will be ordered from XI as well.
    As for your other questions:
I was doing national commercial-quality print illustration and design before the "desktop publishing" revolution of the mid 80s. I "grew up on" Macs, forever buying the next higher-end machines as they appeared. I lateraled to Windows during the long-delayed and very disruptive change to Mac OSX. By then, Windows XP had caught up with the compelling Mac advantages (font handling, multiple monitor support, etc.) I'm glad MacOS is still around for Microsoft to continue to copy; but I haven't looked back. I see no compelling reason and have no desire to switch back to MacOS. It's nice swimming with, rather than against, the business-user tide; and I would not want to be without alot of Windows-only apps, including CorelDraw, Canvas, and Xara among others.
Your native files being created on Windows, though, should not represent much of an obstacle, assuming the same apps on MacOS should you decide to jump platforms. OpenType has made the font issue moot, and native app files are almost always cross-platform.
I'm running 64 bit Vista Business without problem. Vista is much-ado-about-nothing from my perspective. More gratuitous (and cheezy) eye-candy (MacOS has plenty of that, too), and a handful of very annoying behaviors (which can be turned off).
I don't know that Adobe apps other than Photoshop take full advantage of multiple cores, 64 bit processing, and related technologies. Illustrator is a performance dog relative to other programs no matter what it runs on. Others here can get into the minutia of all that. All my apps, including Adobe's run faster on the new machine. I don't sit and wait for anything (except for Illustrator to launch and quit, of course.)
If you stay on Windows, give
XI Computer a call and discuss your needs. Their site has a configurator, much like Dell's; but I was glad I called even after doing that. They gave some good advice that I went with.
