Moving "purchased" music from my iPod to my MacBook

I started with iTunes on my PC, subsequently I purchased a Mac Book and I'd like to consolidate everyting onto it. There has to be a way to transfer all of the songs I've purchased from my iPod to the Mac Book. Or is there? Darned if I can figure it out. Someone out there must know how to do this. Thanks.

The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

Can we manage our account, so my daughter cannot purchase music from her Ipod ?

You can hide the iTunes store app on her iPod via Settings > General > Restrictions > iTunes 'off' - that will remove the app and therefore stop hre buying things from it.

  • How can i upload music from my ipod to my macbook air?

hi, how can i upload music from my ipod to my macbook air? thanks.

    Try this.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.

  • Hi was wondering how i get back all my purchased music from itunes. i plugged my phone in to my computer and it syned all my old purchased music from my ipod list and not all my new purchased music is gone.

I am having trouble getting back all my purchased music from itunes

Does music show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone and the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes for redownloading ? Whether music will show there will depend upon what country that you are in - and even if music does show it will also depend upon whether it's still in your country's store.
If you aren't in a country where you can redownload music and you don't have copies of it anywhere, then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Moving purchased music from ipod

I purchased some music from the iTunes store but didn't back it up.
It's still on my iPod, but now not on my computer.
How can I get it from my iPod back on to my iTunes? (iPod is set to automatic update)
    Any help greatly appreciated

Well you hold shift and ctrl, WHILE HOLDING THEM connect the ipod and let go only after itunes opens and list the ipod. THis stops an auto update.
Now in iTUnes, goto edit>preferences>ipod and set the ipod to "Manual update" to get it ready for third party software.
Now close iTunes and use yamipod http://www.yamipod.com or Podutil http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php to copy them back
Yamipod is totally free and will copy the songs. Podutil is shareware/trailware and you can use there program for free to copy the songs along with all the playcounts, playlist if your library is blank or something

  • Moving iTunes purchased music from my iPod to my computer

Hi, over Christmas I was staying with my mum and during that time I downloaded some tracks to my iPod using my mum's computer. I temporarily authorised her machine to my account to do this. Now I have the tracks on my iPod, but want to copy them to my personal pc as a backup incase I lose my iPod or something goes wrong with it. Unfortunately iTunes won't allow this which i find very strange as my machine is authorised to my account. Is there any way to this, or do I have to burn them to a CD from my iPod then rip them to get them to my personal machine? If this is the case, I am not impressed. Maybe you guys know of another way around this?

The iLounge article dates from 2008 and has some outdated information, especially as regards to setting idevices to disk mode (you can't now).  You may be forced to use third party applications.  Here's my boilerplate post:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

I wanna get rid of the ipod but i cant since all my music is in there. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

  • How can i transfer non purchased music from my iPod classic to iTunes?

Recently, my laptop died and geek squad was unable to extract files from hard drive. How do I transfer non purchased music (burned cd's) from my ipod classic to itunes on my new laptop? Apple customer support suggested I engage support communities to find out about 3rd party software (not apple) that can accomplish this. Does anyone know of where I can find such software? Please and thank you

Back when I had to do something like that, I used Copytrans, http://www.copytrans.net/. You might see if they are what you want.
At worst, you could open the ipod classic in disk mode, locate the music files, copy them to your hard disk (they won't have good names), and just add them to your library. You'll probably lose play counts and *s with that approach, but it should work.

  • Moving purchased music from one account to another account

So I just purchased my first macbook. I am trying to figure out my next step in transfering my music. I am not worried about most of the music I want to transfer, as I can easily move it via thumb drive. My question pertains the purchased music specifically. I do not want to keep the same itunes account id as when I purchased the songs initially. (I was 15, long time ago. I would like to start fresh.) There aren't many songs that I purchased, and I probably won't want all moved, but I do not want to repurchase the songs again.
Is there any way I can get those songs onto my new mac, from my old and dying dell, without having to authorize use of a computer by an old account?
Would simply transfering via thumb drive work, or is there any other way I can go about doing this without losing about 100 or so songs that I spent money on?
I really do not want to keep the old itunes account id (I don't even have access to that email anymore), and have made a new one already.
Thank you to all in advance.

Do you want duplicated copies in both accounts? (that would be a terrible waste of space). The best way to avoid that would be to move your iTunes Music folder to the Shared folder on your Mac (Users/Shared). Then change your iTunes Preferences to point iTunes at this new location.
The other account should launch iTunes, then do the same thing.
You will now have a situation where the two accounts have separate iTunes Library database files (for playlists etc), but are using the same music folder. It is likely that only the original account will have read/write privileges to the actual music however.

  • Moving purchased music from Yahoo Music Jukebox to Itunes...

    Hi,
Is there a way to drag and drop music purchased from Yahoo Music Jukebox to Itunes purchased music too? I bought one album for an artist on Yahoo and another album for the same artist on Itunes. I want to move the music so I can create a cd. Can I do this? Thanks.
    Debbie

Sorry but no, that's probably not possible. Only iTunes can burn tracks that were purchased from the iTunes Store if they're copy protected, and then they can only be burned to an audio CD and you won't get 33 tracks on a single audio CD. Only if the tracks are iTunes Plus and hence not protected could they be converted to a format the Yahoo jukebox would accept (probably MP3).
