Moving QT's in the timeline.

Anyone know how to move the qt reference movie in the timeline? I get QT's separate from my omfs usually they are a few frames to a sec off. It would really be nice to just nudge the movie in sync with the 2 pop as there is no real easy way to nudge 22 tracks of audio with a few hundred regions. If you can't do this soundtrack still has away to go before being truly Pro.

thanks, thats one way to do it but if you select all you also select your ref audio track. I suppose you could de select the ref track and move rest but what if you want to stay locked to the omf? On longer projects with a lot of regions I really don't want to move them around, to much room for error. There still should be a way to move QT and reference audio in timeline. Anyone know how?

Maybe it can't put it on the track above it because you have the lower track set as the Source Patching destination.

  • Not happy with moving around keys on the timeline

I just changed from Final Cut to Premiere CS5.0 and I really like it. Working on a Macbook Pro i5 2.3GHZ, Mac OSX 10.7 But I am not happy with moving around on the timeline. I was used to using the up and down arrows to move to next video edit point, marker point or audio edit point. I tried everything to change it, highlighted the track etc. It only works together with the FN key, which is a bit uncomfortable. And then it definetely is not going to any audio edit points (very annoying!!!) and marker points (have to use Q and W keys). It makes me doubting if continuing with Premiere or not. Its such an esencial and easy to use tool while editing in a normal fast editing rythm. When I change it in the customize keyboard menu, into a Custom keyboard or FCP keyboard, it would ignore my changes on the arrowkeys, although it recognizes any other changes I do. Is it so complicate to change this issue in Premiere to how it is set in FCP? Its such an obvious tool, using the arow keys to move around, cannot beleive that we have to live with such a limitation. Please!!!

You dont have to live with that at all if you are fixed only to what you have previously done.

  • Moving all clips in the timeline

I have a sequence make up of all still images. I need to change and shorten the opening image. I delete the image insert the new shorter image. I select the entire time to the right of the new image (several videos tracks) using the double arrow selector. Then try to move the whole timeline as one block by holding down the mouse on the selection and sliding it to the left. However, it will not move. All I get is a down pointing arrow and can not move it left or right. I seem to be able to move the block up a track though.
    What am I doing wrong

    Thanks,
I selected the first image and everything to the left them deleted (event though I could not see anything in the timeline). I then had to replace the first image and could move the timeline to where it needed to be.
Could not see anything in the way but there must have been something somewhere.
    Thanks

  • Need help moving my code from the timeline into classes

    Hello everybody,
A few months ago I made a simple flashgame with the help of a tutorial (http://www.flashgametuts.com/tutorials/as3/how-to-create-a-brick-breaker-game-in-as3-part- 1/) as a school assignment. When I turned it in to my teacher, his biggest complaint was that the code was written onto the timeline instead of in seperate classes. I know virtually nothing of programming (dealt with agoraphobia while the classes took place ), so I was wondering if someone could help me move the code into classes.
Here's the complete package for the game: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xhjuhz04z8g129m/0nSwf1wngu
    Thanks!

You will need to learn about classes. I suggest that for the moment you set your actual project to the side--but keep it in mind--and work on some smaller chunks. Do some tutorials and learn a bit. Then try and apply what you have learned to your project.
    http://www.untoldentertainment.com/blog/2009/08/25/tutorial-understanding-classes-in-as3-p art-1/
Work on the individual bits and post more specific questions when you run up against them.
It will require shifting your thoughts a bit on how to design and structure things. For me the really key concept is encapsulation--the idea that your classes are self-contained and have very specific routes of communication for receiving and sending information. To achieve this you need to think about methods, properties, and events. If you've done regular timeline coding you probably recognize properties (x, alpha, htmlText, etc.) and events (MouseEvent.CLICKED). Methods is a fancy word for function. So when you do something like myMovieClip.gotoAndStop(5) the gotoAndStop is a method of the MovieClip class and that just means somewhere there is code like this:
    function gotoAndPlay(frame:Object, scene:String=null):void{
// code that tells flash how to move the movieclip to a frame
That is a bit of a simplification, but conceptionally it is what you will do for the methods of your classes.

  • Moving Subtitle clips in the timeline

I want to select all of the clips in one subtitle stream and slide them up in time by 1 sec. I'm sure it's simple but the obvious Shift-click or Command-click doesn't get it.
    Thanks.

Answer is - unfortunately - that it can't be done (at least not easily). this is why ou find most people who create subtitles a lot don't create them within DVD-SP. I know it's stupid you can't shift them en masse but that seems to be the way it works.
    Suggestions...?
You really need it as an external file - usually an STL file. This is basically a file which ahs information of the time in and time out timecodes and the text of the subs. There are various other commands you can add to this file to give you Italics where needed, typesize, font etc which are shown in the manual
What you need to do is export an item description of the track with the subs
Then download Subtitler (which is free) from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26322
You then import your item description into Subtitler.
Make sure when you use this not to use the Auto Detect as this often doesn't work. Change the format to: DVD Studio Pro Track/Disk Info
This will open the item description and extract the subtitles then save this out as an STL file. (ie. subname.stl)
You now have several choices - you open the STL file in Text Edit and manually add the time shift you want to the file. Alternatively you can something like STL edit (which would be usueful to have in your arsenal if you are doing a lot of subs).
    http://software.guishen.com/
There is a cost of $40 which isn't too drastic and this can do a timeshift for you in few seconds
Sorry this is a bit rambling but hope it helps

  • Moving Tabs in the timeline

    Hi
Is it possible to organise the tabs in the timeline window? I had them perfect but then FCP crashed and when i restored the project all the tabs were out of place. I tried moving/dragging them into order along the timeline but that didn't work. It's not a biggie but it helps with my workflow
    Thx

Have solved the problem by dragging each of the tabs into a new window

  • I am moving clips to the timeline and they arrive zoomed in.  how can I stop this?

need some help.  I'm moving clips to the timeline and they arrive zoomed in.  I don't want this effect.  How can I stop it?

To expand a little on John's questions and link, every clip and every sequence has its own frame dimensions (and pixel aspect ratio & frame rate). By default, Premiere preserves the dimensions (or "resolution") of a clip when you add it to a sequence. That means that if a clip's resolution is greater than that of the sequence, it will appear to be zoomed in on the frame. Conversely, if the clip is lower res than the sequence, it will appear shrunk, with black borders.
If all of your content is the same resolution (which is the ideal case), then you should use a sequence that matches. The easiest way to do so is the "New Item" method that John refers to--dragging a clip to the Project Panel's New Item button--or, in later releases of PPro CC, dragging it into an empty Timeline panel. If you're working with content of mixed resolution, then you have to pick your poison and scale smaller clips up or larger clips down. The latter option is generally preferred because the former--scaling clips up--often results in unacceptable pixelation.

  • ODD issue with the "timeline" getting moved over

notice the left side of the timeline how its been moved from the left side of the full interface window. even if i close the projects tab on the left the timeline "still" does not default to the very left side. what happened is i was pulling a clip away from the far left and i actually pulled the timeline instead. ive thrown away preferences and set as best back to any defaults i could find but nothing fixes this oddity.
also, it has nothing to do with the scrolling bars!
i ended up just throwing away the whole app and am now downloading the full program again. has to be a bug?

something is different still i think? zero meaning the beginning is just zero. in your example you have an audio clip laying further to the left than where your 00:00 actually is. how is it that you can get a piece of your audio to cross  over that point and butt up to the side of project panel? my clips only go to the edge of that opening, not in it?
id swear it wasnt there until i notice i pulled it over. maybe im dreaming.
    david
EDIT: yep, i must be on drugs or something because its there on some tutorials ive been watching. never noticed before until i did something then there was the illusion that i made that space. id still like to know though how you got your file to lay to the left of zero. thanks for your help!

  • Tips for moving around the timeline

Trying to get the hang of this Premiere thing and use as many keyboard shortcuts as possible. I've skimmed through the online help and picked up some useful ones (like - + \ for zooming)
Is there any way to scroll vertically besides the scroll bars? The hand tool only wants to scroll horizontally.
Also, if I'm zoomed in, how do I scroll down the timeline? Page Up/Down only gets me to the next clip.
Any shortcuts to twirl open a track?
Lastly, is there any sort of gap detector? Trying to hunt down 1 frame gaps is a pain.

Colin, but what do you think about consistency between applications within a suite?
Well, I agree that's important, but you need to consider that they're still different applications with different purposes and different modalities.
After Effects is temporally-based, but it's also--and perhaps more so--spatially-based. What I mean is that, while you are concerned with timing in AE (naturally--it's for animating), you're also focusing largely on positioning elements in space. In AE, everything resides on its own layer, even if parts of a comp are separated by time.
In Premiere Pro, the focus is different. Yes, of course, you're positioning things spatially, particularly since PPro has gained more and more compositing capabilities. But ultimately, you're primarily concerned with positioning elements in time more than in space. When I'm working in an NLE--PPro or otherwise--I'm working with full-frame video 95%+ of the time, and I'm not moving clips around in a frame. However, I am moving clips around in time--before this one, after that one, etc. Therefore, PPro and all other NLEs are more "horizontally-oriented" if you consider time a horizontal plane as depicted by the time ruler.
So, no--I do not think that moving vertically in a Premiere Pro sequence/Timeline panel is so important that it should be the default action. I understand people want this--I will not argue that--but this either needs to be a) a secondary function, or b) we need to be able to customize scroll wheel actions to accommodate individual users. Either is fine with me, so long as the current behavior is not changed.

  • Moving Around the Timeline

    Hi,
Just a quick question about moving around the timeline. I'm using the up and down arrow keys to jump between cuts, but for some reason I can jump back beween cuts, but when clips are stepped up it doesn't seem to let me jump forward to the next edit.(I'm on the FCP keyboard config)
Also, to jump forward the begining, or back to the end I'm supposed to use the home/end key. does anyone know what this is on a MacBook Pro keyboard?
    Thx

I assume you're referring to when you have more than one track with clips on them. In that case, you need to be mindful of which tracks are targeted; that controls which tracks are subject to the Next/Previous Edit commands.
    For example:
Any track that isn't targeted will be ignored by the Next/Previous Edit commands. Just click the header "button" to enable or disable a track. Track targeting affects many other operations in Premiere Pro--for example, adding edits or applying transitions. Check out this Help document page for some more info: Targeting tracks
Not sure about the MBP keyboard question, but a Google search for such turned up this: Home and End Keys on the Macbook Pro

  • Losing the audio track when moving a clip from the browser to the timeline

Today we were trying to add two clips from the browser in Final Cut Express HD to the timeline that was created yesterday. The problem is, the clips we were adding today are not moving with the audio tracks. All other clips from when we created the movie are fine but the two we added today have no sound. The audio works when viewing the clip in "viewer" but not once it is moved to the timeline. Any thoughts?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Look at the left side of the time line, there is a device (the patch panel) to set the current video and audio target tracks. (little V1 and a1 a2 icons). Swith them to desired tracks to select the target audio tracks (that's where the video and audio-or just one of them-will be inserted in timeline upon editing). There is also a contextual menu (control click) with reset panel command.

  • Cp8.0 html5 file plays fine in chrome, but moving the timeline button causes audio to vanish. what to do?

I have created a session with a combination of ppt slides with audio, and also a screen capture with audio and put it all together and published in html5. seems to work fine, i can open it on my computer by clicking on the html5 file (chrome and IE.) Moving the continuous scroll pointer often causes the audio to not be played. I know I can advance with forward and reverse buttons, that works ok. (Refreshing the html5 file in the browser fixes things and goes back to start)  This opens up many questions for a novice like myself:
    1. Am I posting this in the right place?
    2. Is the timeline button shown only to be admired from afar, and not touched ?
    3. Has this been fixed in 8.1 ?
    4. I don't want or need scalable window sizes ( 1300 by 720 is fine,) so should i not use html5 at all ? I want it to work on IE, Chrome, and Firefox.

thanks. i see i need to explain better:
I am describing the browser window as it appears if you simple display the html5 file that is created by publishing. I have not added a single button or feature to control movement. my project consists of slides with audio that advance after so many seconds, a captured screen sesssion, more slides, and a quiz. The buttons for play, forward, backward, and the horizontal progress bar with the 'button' (upward pointing triangle) are all native to the html that is being displayed and 'played.'
Now, seeing that displayed, a user would be tempted to hit these buttons and to move the linear time by grabbing and moving the triangle pointer. sometimes this works perfectly, but sometimes moving the pointer causes audio to disappear and it will not play again on any slide. is this a clear description of the problem ? I do not understand some of your comments, but it seems that we were not on the same page, so it seems ok not to understand. FYI, my published  ~10 minute sessions are about ~20 MB for all files and folders.
    8.1 doesn't exist. i see, my mistake. i meant 8.0.1
I do not need anything but a screen with 1300x720 resolution, so i will try going to SWF. I am recording a session to teach a software tool that is based on the eclipse environment, and the screen capture includes many graphics and much text, so any scaling whatsoever makes it ugly and hard to read. At one point i may have been thinking of scalable windows, but i realize now it is the last thing i need. The quality of the capture is excellent with 1300x720 ( and since 720 is native for powerpoint, i have no scaling in either ppoint or the captured screen sessions.

  • Playhead on the timeline stopped moving.

Unbeleivable. My playhead on the timeline doesn't move when I hit play(space bar). The program is playing but the playhead isn't moving. I hit the spacebar again to stop the program & it stops as it's supposed too and the playhead then advances to where the program stopped.
    Kosmc4

Man, I was sitting here trying to MAKE it happen on my system and couldn't.
    Though maybe playhead sync... nope
Something up with your external monitoring?
I'd shut everything down and unplug for 10 minutes... that should clear some handshake cruff you might have built up too. I've got some more drastic measures should this come back... but let's hope not.
    Good luck,

  • My connected audio only clips moved from below to above the timeline. What happened? How do I get them below the timeline again?

My connected audio only clips moved from below to above the timeline. What happened? And how do I get them below the timeline again?

Repeatedly crashes. What I ended up doing was using a backup Final Cut Projects file and jettisoning this one with the glitch. Luckily, nada much lost. I've had a couple of these weird glitches happen in the Timeline, esp. when dealing with compound audio-only clips & some fx's and rather than spending mega time trying to fix the problem, I bail and start again, and try to be more methodical in my approach.
