Moving Reports to Report Manager 2012

Hi ,
I am migrating and deploying all reports from RM 2005 to RM 2012
Reports still will be using Sql Server 2005, So should I create subscriptions on RM 2012 or Sql Server 2005 reportserver database  can handle the subsriptions?
thanks,
Gok

Hi Gok Sky,
As per my understanding, you want to migrate a Reporting Services native mode deployment to a new SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services instance. If that is the case, please refer to the following steps:
Back up database, application, and configuration files.
Back up the encryption key.
Move any custom application files to the new installation.
Configure the report server.
Edit RSReportServer.config to include any custom settings from your previous installation.
Optionally, configure custom Access Control Lists (ACLs) for the new Reporting Services Windows service group.
Test your installation.
Remove unused applications and tools after you have confirmed that the new instance is fully operational.
For detail information about migrating a Reporting Services Installation, please refer to the following documents:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143724(v=sql.110).aspx
If you want to update SSRS 2005 projects to SSRS 2012, we can copy project files from report server 2005 to report server 2012, the reports are automatically upgraded on first use. After you upgrade a report, you might notice additional errors, warnings,
and messages. This is the result of changes to the internal report object model and processing components, which cause messages to appear when underlying problems in the report are detected. For detail information about upgrading Reports, please refer to the
following document:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143674%28v=sql.110%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
After migration, you can configure subscriptions for the reports in report manager as bhanu_nz mentioned. For more information, please refer to
Subscriptions and Delivery.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks,
Wendy Fu

I know the cubes w/Excel offer a great way to get data for a **piece meal report or for getting agregated data (I.E. counts, sums, avergares, Max's & Mins) but I need a report that has zero totals and no agregations.
    Thanks
** A piece meal report is a report that has to be manually pieced together by combining data from others reports and other sources because no single report can be constructed to bring all the data togethere into a single report.  If you've ever
worked with an accountant taht uses Excel for everything but who has no idea how SQL or databases in general are deisgned then chances are you've either been asked to create a piece meal report for them and or seen them do one them selves when they open a

  • Service Manager 2012 R2 report libraries don't deploy

So I've got a fresh install of Service Manager 2012 R2 with SQL Server '08 R2 in the 4 server layout, everything on Hyper-V. My issue is this: after registering the data warehouse, everything appears to function normally, the MPSyncJob completes its first
pass and other jobs show up in the list but the reports section of the management console is never populated. All of the management packs deploy just fine except for the report libraries and there is no indication/logs of issues on any of the servers. I've
gone through the manual setup setups for SSRS several times with no change in results. This is the 4th full reinstall of Service Manager with the same result.
Any thoughts? Is there any way to tell whether or not SSRS is actually functioning as intended? Are there any special database permissions that need to be configured for the DW reports service account (I have read all set)?

  • Running SSRS 2005 in Reports Manager 2012

    Hi Guys,
I'm just wondering if there's any implications on deploying  SSRS 2005 on Reports Manager 2012( along with SQL Server 2012).
We are upgrading our OS from 2003 to 2008 and we're thinking when we migrate our reports manager to the new sever, we'll upgrade it as well.
We have plans to convert our SSRS 2005 to 2012 but for now we want to put on hold on it and check whether the old version can be ran in Report Manager 2012.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Vinxster,
Generally, Report definitions are also upgraded when you publish or upload an .rdl file created in an earlier version of Reporting Services. The original file is not upgraded unless you open it in Report Designer.
If a report cannot be automatically upgraded, the report is processed using the backward-compatibility mode. The report definition remains in the original schema.
When we upgrade a Reporting Services installation to a SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services (SSRS) installation, Report definition (.rdl) files are automatically upgraded in the following ways:
The Report Server automatically upgrade existing published reports and report snapshots to the new report definition schema for the first time they are processed.
When we open an .rdl file in Report Designer in Business Intelligence Development Studio (BI Dev Studio), if the report was created for a previous namespace, Report Designer automatically creates a backup file and upgrades the report to the current namespace.
This is the only way we can upgrade a report definition file.
Note: when we upload a report definition file directly to the Report Server or SharePoint site, the report are not upgraded. We should upgrade the .RDL file in Report Designer in Business Intelligence Development Studio (BI Dev Studio).
When there are references to custom code embedded in a report or to custom assemblies, reports might require additional steps to complete the upgrade during an upgrade of a report server. Custom assemblies should be moved manually to the new installation
folder if we want to continue using the custom functionality in reports. If these assemblies are installed in the report server installation folder, they need to be moved to the new installation folder after the upgrade completes.

  • Cannot download .rdl files in SSRS Report Manager 2012.

I am unable to download .rdl reports in report manager 2012.
I am able to create reports using report builder and I am able to run /view reports that I create.
However , the drop down box does not work work when I attempt to access drop down menu that is to the right of the report.
I am running this report manager on my local machine. I am an administrator on my local machine.
Under "site settings" I have set up my user account, which is administrator, I have checked the System Administrator box and System User box.
Under "folder settings" I have checked all of the boxes.  for my user account, I have all of the boxes selected. Browser, Content Manager, My Reports, Publisher, Report Builder.
My account is also sysadmin on the database.
After checking all of this, I still cannot access the drop down menu in order to download .rdl files. The menu does not activate at all when I click it.
What are some things that I can further check/confirm?
    [email protected]

    Hi wayne,
According to your description, you are unable to access the dropdown menu of a report so that you can't download the .RDL file directly from Report Manager. Right?
In this scenario, it can be many reasons to cause this problem, even the current user has enough authority to do anything on Report Manager. Please try to do trouble shooting as below:
Run the browser as an Administrator.
Add the Report Manager URL as Compatibility View settings.
Use http://<servername>/reports instead of using Localhost.
If the steps above still can't make you see the dropdown menu, it might caused by corrupt reportingservices.js file. Please try to restore this file on server.

  • Interesting SCOM Reports and "Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 Reports" MP Issue , Some reports appear others don't

Our test environment is quite simple one Operations Server 2012 R2; with the database and SSRS instance on another server; Service Manager 2012 is on it’s own virtual machine; and the Service Manager Data Warehouse on it’s own. I’ve been trying to demo chargeback
with scvmm and I’m having issues with the chargeback reporting.
I’ve followed this process to install chargeback reports:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj614406.aspx which
completed successfully. All of the cubes seem to process correctly in Service Manager and I can create a chargeback analysis excel sheet with no issues in service manager. I still do not get any chargeback reports in the Operations console though. I get some
reports under the “Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 Reports” heading like Capacity, Host Group Forecasting, Host Utilization, etc but no chargeback report.
I can see the chargeback report in the SSRS website but cannot get it to appear in the Operations console. If anyone has any tips or troubleshooting they can point me at I would appreciate it.

  • SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services Report Manager using non-HTTPS URLs on part of site

For potential ease of understanding, I am seeing the same issue as this person
    here.
Currently, my site is successfully using HTTPS in all areas of the /Reports site, with a single exception. If you drill down to a report and go to "Manage", the following links are all http://, not https://:
    Parameters
    Data Sources
    Subscriptions
    Processing Options
    Cache Refresh Options
    Report History
    Snapshot Options
    Security
These remain regardless of the configuration combinations I enter in Reporting Services Configuration Manager. I'm not sure what makes this part of Report Manager special. Even if I only enable https in the Report Manager URL settings, these links all stay
as http (port 80). I can find no references in config files to this.
Any assistance is welcome. Obviously having non-encrypted links is not acceptable.

    Hi SteveKSM,
According to your description, you specify the report manager URL as https://. When you open the child items on report manager, the URL change to the http://.
In your scenario, since you want to set SSRS to require all SSL connections, you need to change the SecureConnectionLevel value to 3 in RSReportServer.config file (located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer).
It means that all communication must use secure connections. So please specify this attribute like below:
    <Add Key="SecureConnectionLevel" Value="3"/>

  • EPSI Dashboard problem after moving from reporting services 2005 to 2012

I have created a Dashboard with Allscripts EPSI with a Reporting Services Report.  After we changed from Micrsosoft Reporting Services 2005 to 2012, the report now gets cut in half.  I turned a ticket in to Allscripts and they said that it had
nothing to do with their software, that it had something to do with a setting on our Reporting Services server.  Please point me into the right direction.

    Hi Jason,
Based on my understanding, after you move the report from Reporting Services 2005 to Reporting Services 2012, the report can’t display well.
In Reporting Services, upgrading a report definition in SQL Server Data Tools is the only way to upgrade the .rdl file. In your scenario, if the .rdl file isn’t upgraded in the new environment, it’s expected that the report won’t display well. So please
open an .rdl file in Report Designer in SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) within the new environment, then the Report Designer will automatically create a backup file and upgrades the report to the current namespace. After a report is upgraded, you might notice
additional errors, warnings, and messages. This is the result of changes to the internal report object model and processing components, which cause messages to appear when underlying problems in the report are detected.

  • Error publishing SSRS Report in Dynamics AX 2012 Enterprise Portal

    Good morning.
I have a problem ad i'll appreciate so much your help. I made a SSRS Reporting project with Business Intelligence Development Studio (through the template "Business Intelligence --> Report Server Project). Once deployed to report server, the report
successfully works. I Want to publish this report in Dynamics AX 2012 Enterprise Portal, through the web part "SQL Server Reporting

An error occurred during local report processing.

Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'.
An attempt has been made to use an unregistered data extension, 'OLEDB-MD'. To use this data extension, it must be registered in the Web.config file of this Web application.
I've Checked the config file and the specified handler is correctly set. I read in a forum that the problem may be caused by the fact that the database of the report server is set as "Native" instead of "Sharepoint Integrated". Is it
possible? just in case, there's the possibility to display a ssrs report in EP in "native mode"?
Thank you so much in advance

  • Cannot preview SSRS report in Visual Studio 2012 - assembly does not allow partially trusted callers

    Hi,
I have an SSRS report that works fine in Visual Studio 2008 BIDS.  This report references a .Net assembly namely:
    System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a
I use this assembly in some simple Code functions in the report. e.g.
    System.Web.HttpUtility.UrlEncode(inURL).ToString
I have converted the SSRS project to 2012 and am trying to preview the report.  However, I get an error relating to: "That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers".  If i deploy the rdl to my local SSRS it renders fine, but
how do I fix Visual Studio to preview the report without error? This is highly annoying.
    My Visual Studio version is:
    Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2012
    Version 11.0.61030.00 Update 4
    Microsoft .NET Framework
    Version 4.5.51641
    SQL Server Reporting Services
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Designers
    Version 11.0.3402.0
Any help is appreciated on this one.
    Regards,
    MrHH

    Hi MrHappyHead,
According to your description, you used custom assembly in the report, when you run the report in Visual Studio 2008, the report works fine. When you run the report in Visual Studio 2012, the error message occurred: "That assembly does not allow partially
trusted callers".  But the report works fine after you deployed it to report manager.
Only applications that are fully trusted by the runtime code access security system are allowed to access a shared managed code assembly that is not explicitly marked with the System.Security.AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers attribute. A partially trusted assembly
(one that is registered in SQL Server with the SAFE or EXTERNAL_ACCESS permission set) that attempts to access a strong-name signed assembly without this attribute causes a System.Security.SecurityException to be thrown. To troubleshoot the problem, please
    refer to the following steps:
Add namespace system.security to AssemblyInfo.cs file
    Add [assembly:allowpartiallytrustedcaller] to the file.
Set trust level to "Full" in web.config file

  • Reporting Looking for Management Packs

    Hello,
I am running SCOM 2012 R2 UR4.  I wanted to setup a scheduled report to show me a list of computers in a critical health state.  But when I go to the Reporting tab, it is asking me to import management packs.  Which MP's do I need for Reporting?

I got this issue once. I had installed SCOM reporting components but the reports were not showing up.
If you disable the Windows Firewall on reporting server, reports will populate in the SCOM operations console. Another way is by creating a new inbound rule on the Reporting server, allowing communication for TCP port # 80 and 443. see if that helps.

  • Updaing SQL 2005 Report Builder Reports (based on Report Models) to SQL 2012 Report Builder Reports?

We are upgrading from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012 directly (no SQL 2008 to be installed).  We have many SSRS Reports written in Report Builder 1.0 against Report Models generated from an OLAP datasource.  In SQL 2012, Report Models can no longer
be created or edited.  I have found many posts on this topic, including this:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/896522da-45c3-46c0-848a-16f8f02ab051/how-to-upgrade-report-models-from-report-builder-1020-to-30. which the 'answered' response states:
SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services does not include tools for creating or updating report models. Although you can continue
to use existing report models as data sources in SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services reports you should consider updating your reports to remove their dependency on report models.
But I cannot locate any instructions/documentation, etc. on how to go about "updating your reports to remove
their dependency on report models.".  How do I take existing Report Builder 1.0 reports that point to Report Models and upgrade them to the new SQL 2012 without Report Models?  Is there a way to convert them?  Or, do they need to be rewritten
from scratch?  If there is a link to these instructions, please post as I cannot locate it any where.  Thank you.

Katherine thank you for helping with this.  Here is what I have tried:
On the Report Manager (2012) site, I created a new OLAP data source.  And when I test the connection, I get the pop up "Connection created successfully."
I then pointed my Report Builder (v1.0) report to this new Data Source (from Report Manager site, selected 'Manage' for the report, from Data Sources, selected Browse and drilled down to the new Data Source I created and selected Apply).
Now when I try to View the report, I receive the following error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Query execution failed for dataset 'paramDataSet'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) The SemanticQuery element at line 7, column 279 (namespace http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/10/semanticmodeling)
    cannot appear under Envelope/Body/Execute/Command.
I then exited IE and reopened the Report Manager site.  I opened Report Builder 3.0,, selected Open and opened this same report.  Idrilled donw to Data Sources and  right clicked on dataSource1 (the only one listed) and selected Data
Source Properties.  I kept the same name, but selected the new shared datasource I created (New DataSource), and selected OK.
Next, I drilled down to Datasets.  There are two listed, dataSet and paramDataSet (yes, this report has parameters).  I right clicked on the dataSet and selected dataSet properties, and see that it points to dataSource1 (which is the dataSource
I just pointed to my New DataSource).  I cancelled and checked the Data Source for paramDataSet, and it also points to dataSource1.  Selected cancel and went back to the main dataSet.
