Moving sections of songs a la Garageband

s there a way to move "sections" of songs each having many tracks and regions. I.E. in Garageband you can label an entire section of music verse 1 then another section chorus 1. Then if you want to swap sections all you have to do is move the 2 markers and all the corresponding track/regions move with it. It seems that in order to this in Logic, I constantly have to highlight large amounts of tracks/regions and continually drag back and forth. I know you can move the markers but the corresponding regions don't move with them. What would be the easiest way to achieve this. Appreciate the help!

Sure you can do this with: "cut/insert time" from the edit menue. Check the availbale functions - very helpful for arranging indeed. Make sure to move/delete the automationalready written onto the tracks - otherwise you'll run into trouble. For automated Busses/Auxes create Arrange tracks and put some empty regions onto them - then the automation of those Busses/Auxes will also get moved/cut.

Yes yu can use the loops in your work and publish work using the loops. Only you cannot distribute the loops als stand-alone loops, see this Apple support article:

you might need codecs on you pc. i find vlc player and codecs is perfect for music and videos.

Moving half a song to left a few bars causes crash all the time

using GB 10.0.2
on IMAC 10.9.2
song has 121 bars
35 tracks
never had this problem before in GB 6 never!!!!!!
and i cant revert this song back to GB 6 cos its saved now to 10 **** it!
at bar 66 there is a break maybe 5 beats where the gtr riffs for 4 beats nothing else is in those 4 beats
and then the rest of the song continues
so i need to shift the rest of tracks to the left by 1 beat
easy in GB 6.0.5
in 10 when i select the tracks
dragging them to the left to fit nicely in tempo i get the dancing ball

i selected the first 65 bars/ 35 tracks and moved them to the right so it fits perfect and so the song now doesnt start ot bar 0 because i shifted the beginning to the right away from the start area and
this worked but what might be wrong that its crashing all the time dragging 35 tracks 65 bars in unison to the left just a smidgeon
there has to be a fix
any ideas please

Have you tried to set arrangement markers? Then you could cut out the five beats by deleting the arrangement region.
Place arrangement markers around the beats you want to remove as described here:

Then delete the markers together with the regions as described here: http://help.apple.com/garageband/mac/10.0/#gbnd704aca5e
Delete an arrangement marker together with its regions
Select the arrangement marker, then press Delete to delete the regions in the Tracks area below the arrangement marker so it is empty. Press Delete again to delete the arrangement marker.
Important: In case you accidentally delete regions that you want to keep, use Undo to restore them.
When you move or delete an arrangement marker, the sections to the right move left to fill the deleted section, closing up the empty space.

Moving Library = Missing Songs

I recently got a new PC and moved the hard drive with my music on it to the new machine. I also copied over my old iTunes library to the new box so I wouldn't lose my ratings and playlists and whatnot.
However, when I opened iTunes, I found about a third of my music was 'missing'. Now seeing as I dropped the old HDD into the new machine and assigned it the same drive letter as it used to have, there is no way its anywhere besides where it is supposed to be. Is there any way to tell iTunes to 'double-check your results before bothering me with this it's not there nonsense'? I really don't want to do it all by hand as I have about 8,000 songs and 1/3 of 8,000 is like...a lot. Thanks!

If you go to the My Music section of your computer's iTunes library then do any of those tracks have an exclamation mark against them ? The 'were not found' message implies that they are listed in your iTunes library, but that the actual music files are no longer stored on your computer (or not where iTunes is expecting to find them) - so iTunes can't copy them to your iPod. Have you deleted, moved, or renamed any directories on your computer ? The 'not found' message can apply to iTunes purchases and/or music copied from CDs.
If they are iTunes purchases that you no longer have on your computer and they are still in the store then you could select/highlight them in the My Music section of your library and either redownload them (if they are still in the store) via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage, copy them back from your phone (if they are on it) via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, or add them back form your backup of your downloads/library via File > Add To Library

Cannot add sections to song on iphone 4S

I have been using Garageband successfully for months on an iPhone 4S, and unfortunately after the most recent app update, I am no longer able to add song sections. Normally i would touch the "+" sign on the top right, but this now just scrolls the cursor all the way to the right side. I have checked under the gear cog, but there is no "sections" option listed here either. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I did try resetting but it did not make the glitch go away. I did however, accidentally solve the issue. By simply flipping the phone 180 deg, the screen also rotates, and then the "+" button will work. This seems to be more of a phone glitch than it does a garageband glitch. But thank you for the suggestion.

I have moved all my songs onto a new external hard drive but it has wiped my iPod clean. Although when I connect my iPod it's starts teh process of sync'ing - so many songs in I get a pop up advising the siong could not be read or written to?

I have moved all my itunes onto a new external hard drive to free up space. It has wiped my ipod clean! I can still see the itunes on the new hard drive so I restored my iPod and tried to sync. Although when I connect my iPod it's in the process of syncing, so many songs in I get a pop up saying could not copy to my iPod as xyz song title could not be read or written. I click ok for this pop up to dissapear and then another pop up appears saying could not coyp to iPod because of unknown error.!!! Help I'm going crazy.

Did you go into iTunes to change the location of your media files? if not you will need to go into iTunes and click on preference and select the advance tab then click the iTunes Media folder location. Select the location of your on external hard drive.

Can't import song created in Garageband into slideshow

Hi all, I put together a little tune in Garageband to use in one of my clients slideshows, saved it and have since tried to use it in the slideshow. It wont play. I have selected it in music settings under Garageband where it was saved and it wont work. Also, I imported it into iTunes and when back in iPhoto selected it from iTunes in music settings - still no success. When in music settings, when the tune is selected it will play when I choose the play button, but just not when I run the slideshow.
I can go ahead and import both the slideshow and tune into iMovie, but that takes oodles of time and from what I gather, it shouldn't be necessary. iLife applications are made to work together, right? Seems to me a tune made in Garaageband should work in iPhoto.
Oh, the tune saved with .band as its extension. I have tried to Save As with a different ext, but Garaageband wont allow it.
Any help out there will be greatly appreciated. Monica

inside garage band you can select from the main menu. 'share', then select 'send to itunes' it will load your song to itunes (it should load it as an .AIFF file), and then you can select it from iphoto,when i creating a slide show there is an itunes button, you will see you song now and can play it.
I just tried this and it worked
in my garage band general preferences i have 'render a preview when saving checked, not sure if this is any thing important.

Help moving a few songs to my library on the external drive

My iTunes Library is located on an external drive. I have now downloaded some songs and podcasts from the iTunes store while my external drive was not attached. Those songs then ended up on my local disk. I now want to move those files to the proper locations on my external drive.
I know the "consolidate library" function will do that, however, as my library consists of 50,000 songs and are about 1.3TB, I am hesitant to mess with a function that will go through the whole library. Is there any other way of doing this. i.e. just telling the song in the library that the file has moved? Or should I just do the consolidate library function and not worry about it?

Connect the external, start iTunes.
Set iTunes prefs -> Advanced to the location of the music on the external.
Then menu Advanced -> Consolidate library.
This should copy only the new stuff on your internal to the external.

Error when importing songs/effects into GarageBand

Whenever I try to import a song or iLife sound effect into garageband, it comes up with an error reading.
Any ideas?

this may sound silly, since you've done these things, but in order try this
close the GB project first, then quit GB
log out of your account
log back in, and repair permissions again
launch GB, and create another new project
after that, i'm not sure what else to suggest at the moment. i can't quite figure out what directory GB can't find if it's not the project itself, or a general permissions problem.

Why does emailing a song from iPad Garageband distort the music?

When using Garageband for iPad (which is amazing by the way), when I export to iTunes, the sound is perfect. When I use the email export function, I find that there are almost always often distortions, artifacts, or ommissions.
My process is usually to make the song, make a screenshot, switch to photoshop, rotate the screenshot, go to Photos, copy the screenshot, return to Garageband, export to email, wait for the encoding to take place, paste the photo beneath the song in the email, then send the email (usually to posterous).
If I export through my mac in iTunes it seems to work flawlessly.

I've found that the AAC file exported through iTunes or through email are exactly the same... however... I've noticed this: Sometimes when I first boot up iPad garageband and start playing a song, I get distortion, dropped notes or ends of notes. If I stop the song, rewind and play again, it sounds fine. Just recently I booted up garageband and WITHOUT opening or playing the song, I exported the AAC (.m4a) file to iTunes and also emailed it to myself. Both versions had chopped notes, stuttering, etc. throughout the whole song!!! On a hunch, I went back to garageband, opened the song and played it. Sure enough, at the beginning it played like sh*t. When I touched the 'go to beginning' button and played again, it played fine. I then closed the song and exported as the above procedure. Both files played fine!
Maybe it's my earbuds but the imported songs sound duller than when listening to the originals on the iPad.

I'VE HAD IT WITH iTUNES- Moved library, now "songs cannot be found"

I have HAD IT with itunes. Apple NEEDS TO FIX PROBLEMS RELATING TO ERRORS WHILST MOVING THE MUSIC LIBRARY. "the original file could not be found" seems to be an all too common error.
I'm using snow leopard, and have an external hard-drive, which has my music library stored on it. I plug in the drive whenever I listen to music. The drive had an error and I was forced to copy the entire music folder to a separate drive, format the drive, then move the music folder back.
I kept the path to the music folder the same, the files the same, and even the name of the drive the same. I opened itunes and in 'advanced' I selected the new itunes music folder location. I figured that it would be fine, as everything was the same as before.
WRONG.
Now, 2/3 of the songs cannot be found when I try and play them. This happens every time I move my library, even when following Apple's step-by-step instructions!!!
I have just clicked "consolidate library" but now I fear that I will have thousands of duplicates, or worse the songs still won't be recognised.

That setting in Advanced doesn't tell iTunes where to find your library, that setting tells iTunes where to put files when you import them. I'm not well versed on the Consolidation function and what that they may have done. I can say that what you should have done was launch iTunes while holding down the option key and navigate to where the library is located is prompted. I suppose you could do that now...but I'm not sure if you might already have dupes from consolidating. If so, you could check for Corral Dupes, a script over at Doug's Scripts, get rid of the dupes, then follow the launch with option key step.

Moved Library - rated songs didn't update

I searched and didn't readily see this topic.
I recently had a drive failure and had to rebuild my library - I imported my library and did all my setup and some song ratings on an external firewire drive. Once it got it all together I moved the drive to my server.
After the move I changed my preferences to the new location and all was well until I tried to play a song that I had applied a rating to. Any of those songs were not updated in the music library - confirmed by checking the xml file to find that their locations still point to the old location via attached firewire drive, not via mounted server share.
Now, I should ask why the **** a song with a rating would have a full path applied to it in the library as opposed to unrated songs that dont, but that's probably for another discussion.
Is there any way to change the locations of these songs to reflect the new location? I'm currently forced to double click on each one and then locate it in its new location to get the song to update. I'd prefer not to do this with all the rated songs.
I've tried consolidating the libraries since I ripped more songs to my local drive - that didn't force the update. I tried to disable and then reapply "keep music folder organized" option and that was no good either.
Any suggestions?

After the move I changed my preferences to the new location
If you thought that would have changed the song locations, you're misunderstanding the meaning of the 'iTunes Music folder location' (like many people do)
Changing that location will only tell iTunes where to store the next ripped CD and purchased music.
The song locations of your library at that moment stay unaltered, as you discovered yourself by examining the .xml file.
The correct way of moving your music is:
Organize.
Change location.
Consolidate.
This will let iTunes do the move and update the song locations in the 'iTunes Library' file.
All necessary steps are described in iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder.
If you can revert to the old situation (backups?) you can try again.

Home Sharing only moved a few songs across

Hi,
I have just purchased a new laptop, I have turned home sharing on and I can see about 257/3000 songs have moved across.
Why have only a few songs moved across? Will it only move across purchased ITunes songs?

I'm trying to do the same thing - I have a G5 iMac that I want to use as a Media Center. I want it to connect to both my daughter's Macbook (and her iTunes account) and my Intel iMac (and my iTunes account). It looks like you can only Home Share one iTunes account.

All automation has MOVED, rendering entire song useless. Why? Help!

I have been producing an album for 2 years.
One of the main songs has a LOT of automation in it. Mainly I am using the ringshifter, which has hundreds of automation edits to make a crazy effect.
My Logic was freaking out recently. I was trying to save presets to the desktop. They wouldn't appear, but in the save box they were visible, on the preview.
So, according to Apple's advice on their official site, I deleted the preferences file; something like apple.com.logic
Now, when I loaded the song, all automation had changed. It was as if it had shifted by a fraction. But it's not just that; it all sounds slightly different somehow. All pitch automation on snares and kicks etc has also moved by a fraction. Shifting the timing of the automation doesn't rectify the problem. The original settings were so perfect and sensitive, they can never be replicated. I tried changing buffer size, delay compensation, everything to no avail.
This is unacceptable really. This project is my life, and I gave up everything to do it. It's nearing completion, and now one of the integral songs has changed for no good reason.
Can anyone recommend what I should do?

It didn't really do anything to be honest.
I reinstalled Logic. Same problem.
It is disturbing. I have been making an album for about 4 years and it was nearly finished. We have a promo campaign in place and everything.
EVERY song has changed in some way; particularly delay automation; pitch automation, and ring shifter automation.
This being electronic music, the tracks now just sound ridiculous ... everything is out of place.
I just can't believe this is happening...
