Moving selected photos to Macbook pro

We're giving the grandkids a macbook pro. Don't wish to migrate our harddrive to their's but would like to send all the photos we have of them to iphoto '09 on the new computer. We have iphoto 08. What's the best way to select events we want them to have and transfer, via firewire at set up I guess, without transferring unwanted data as well.
Thanks

either use iPhoto library manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - or export the photos to a desktop folder and move that folder

PS - it is a good idea to post in the correct forum - in many cases the answers are different depending on the version you are using - this is the iPhoto 5 forum

  • How do i view photos in macbook pro, and while viewing how can i delete the unwanted photos with delete button?

1 My questions are about viewing and managing photos from a folder.
    a. How do i view photos in macbook pro - i know the space bar thingy but does not help my purpose?
    b. While viewing how can i delete the unwanted photos with delete button?
    c. How can i increase the size of the photos that i am seeing in the form of icons?

double clicking in iPhoto will open the photo.
The left and right arrow key will move between photos, as well as swiping on a trackpad or Apple mouse.
See >System Preference>Trackpad or mouse  for options and tut
While selected or in the smaller icon view hitting the Delete key will delete the pic.
Command Z will undo the last action taken.
Periodically you have to empty the iPhoto trash.  iPhoto drop down menu>empty trash
Same applies for viewing pics in a Folder NOT in iphoto,  Use the up and down arrows does not work in Preview, but as you know in QuickLook (spacebar) the up and down arrows will navigate.

  • How to sync photos from MacBook Pro to iPad 3?

How to sync photos from MacBook Pro to iPad 3 without it automatically deleting previously synced photos, or replacing them with new ones?

How can I create albums in the Photos app on the iPad
Photos that were taken with the iPad (or any photos in the camera roll) can be deleted right on the iPad. Tap the trash can icon in the top right corner if you are viewing the pho,to in full screen, or if you are viewing as thumbnails - tap the arrow in the upper right corner - tap the photos that you want to delete and then tap - Delete.
Photos that were synced from your computer using iTunes can only be deleted by de-selecting them from the folder from where they were synced -  and then re-syncing.

I have pre 08 iphotos saved on disk. When I try and open the  disk in I photo on macbook pro I get the following message Unreadable file, The following file could not be imported.(The file is in an unrecognized format)

Here's a test you can run:
1 - copy a set of photos from the disk to a folder on the desktop.
2 - download and unzip the Automator workflow Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile. You can download it from Toad's Cellar.
3 - select the files in the folder and drag and drop onto the workflow app.
4 - try to import the resulting files.

Get info then check permissions then add your curent user name (it was probably different on old Mac) and give your username full read/write permissions.

I have moved everything from my macbook pro onto my iMac. For some reason I cant see any of my music in iTunes even though I have logged in with my normal apple ID. Please help me before I kill something!!

How did you go about transferring your library onto the iMac? There are specific instructions one must follow to do this correctly without causing loss of data. Simply signing in via your Apple ID won't do much of anything unless you are an iTunes Match subscriber.
Did you just copy the entire iTunes folder over? If so, Quit iTunes then hold down option and click the iTunes icon in the Dock. Don't release option until the popup appears asking if you want to create a new library. Simply navigate to the library in the folder you copied over.
If you didn't go about transferring your library in that way, and you still have the MacBook Pro, follow these instructions to transfer your library properly to avoid data loss.
    Hope that helps!

  • HT1386 selected itunes on macbook pro will not sync to iPad

selected itunes on macbook pro will not sync to ipad

Might there be an ownership issue --- such as:
Might the tunes that do not sync to the iPad have been purchased using a different Apple ID and password than are either used on the iPad or authorized on the computer's iTunes?
Remember, purchased music is protected.  It cannot be indiscriminately shared.

  • I use iPhoto and want to know how to get the 'key photo' i select on my MacBook Pro to be the one that gets used on my iPhone when i sync them. Any ideas? also, i want the events to appear in the order i choose on my MacBook too

My new yahoo account nestles comfortably in iCloud on the mine iPad.
No, your Yahoo account is not in iCloud (which only handles iCloud mail), it is in Yahoo, and the Yahoo mail account is on your iPad.
But the MacBook Pro will have none of it! I write this question now as I fear that I will be totally demented very soon and unable to formulate my thoughts clearly!
Get the correct settings for your account from Yahoo and set it up manually.
By the way, I also find the "password" issue problematical. It seems Apple want my Apple password rather than my eMail password. All very confusing.
That would depend on what you are trying to do.

  • Transferring photos from MacBook Pro to a SD Card

Hello, New chap on the block and a complete ignoramus!
I have just moved from a windows 7 based laptop to Macbook Pro with OSxLion.
I am slowly learning, howevr I have two problems that I cannot seem to resolve.
1: I put my 2gb brand new SD Card in the slot and up it comes as a crd icon with the label No Name.
I try and transfer photos from my MacBook to the card so that I may take them to the shop and put the card in thier machine and print them off.
No Joy! I cannot drag or paste anything to the card!
I have been to disc utilities to format to what I do not know but anyway  the only thing I can do is verify, everything else is grayed out.
    Please can anyone advise?
2: I did manage to transfer  some of my photos to a USB stick, but when I went to the shop and put said USB into the machine the stick was not recognized!
So, there are my two questions, any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you for reading this.  Mike T

Is the Lock slider on your SD card in the locked position?
Is your flash drive formatted FAT32 or NTFS? It probably has to be to work in the store's reader.

  • Having a hard time transferring photos from MacBook Pro once they have been cropped or colored enhanced to my iPhone or iPad. If they have not been manipulated then they transfer fine. How can I fix this?

I've been cropping and editing pics in my MacBook Pro but once I try to transfer them to the iPhone or iPad 2 only the photos that have not been manipulated transfer with no problems. How do I solve this problem?

    Option 1:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.
    If that fails:
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Use the option to check and repair library permissions

  • How to move photos from macbook pro to iPhone 6 plus

I am noticing that my brand new iPhone 6 did not load pics from the cloud so want to transfer photos manually from macbook pro onto the new iPhone 6 plus could you direct me how to.thanks Gerald

Are your photos housed in the iPhoto app on the Mac? If so, then hook up your device, click on the Photos tab in the Device Profile Screens to the right, select what photos you want sync'd, and then sync your device to iTunes.
    Cheers,

  • Delete photos on ipad, but save photos on macbook pro?

I want to delete a large number of older photos (2000+) from my iPad2 to free up space.  I have already synced the iPad to my Macbook Pro,
AND, I want to save these photos only on my Macbook Pro.
I only backup and sync to my Mac directly, and do not use iCloud (I don't particularly want to unless necessary to solve this problem).
Once the photos were backed up to the Mac, I found that they cannot be deleted from the iPad.   I cannot see how to delete them using the
    Mac either.
    Ipad2 has IOS 8.1.1   64GB storage, 23.80 GB free
    Macbook Pro OSX 10.9.5
    iTUnes 12.0.26

Photos in the camera roll can be included in the backup, but what you realy want to do is import them to your Mac using iPhoto, Image Capture, or Aperture, if you have that on your Mac. Take a look at this.
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
IF you cannot delete the photos on the iPad, you must have synced them to the device from your Mac at some point. The only way to remove the synced photos is to connect to iTunes on the Mac, select your device, click on then Photos Tab and then uncheck the Sync Photos From heading and click on Apply in the lower right corner to remove all photos, or to uncheck the albums or events that you want to remove and then click on Apply to remove those specific folders of photos,

  • How do i move photos from macbook pro to a freeagent drive?

I am trying to move photos from my Macbook Pro to an external FreeAgent hard drive, but it will not allow me to "drop and drag" or copy and paste to that drive. Any suggestions as to why, or how I can get these photos onto the external drive?

Are you able to move other file types, such as documents, to your external hard disk using your Mac?
If not, the hard disk may be formatted in a file system format known as "NTFS" which is used by Windows, which can not be written to by default using Mac OS X.
To resolve this issue, you can format the hard disk as either "FAT" (which will maintain compatibility with other operating systems such as Windows) or "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" (if you are only using this hard disk using your Mac).
NOTE: Erasing and reformatting your external hard disk will remove any data that is currently stored on it. Ensure that you make a back up of any important data before proceeding.
To reformat the hard disk, open the Finder and from the menu bar choose "Go" and then click on "Utilities". Double click on Disk Utility to open it. Select your external hard disk from the list on the left hand side of the Disk Utility window, then click on the "Erase" tab on the right hand side of the window. Choose the appropriate file system format and give the volume a name (such as "Storage HD"). Then click on the Erase button.
Once Disk Utility has completed formatting your external hard disk, you should be able to copy your data to it.
Hope that helps, have a great day.
