Moving Sharepoint online to another tenant

Hello
I have a client (lets call them Business A) that has purchased another business (Business B). Business A has a Office 365 Tenant but hasn't been really been used apart from Lync, while business B has also an Office 365 tenant that they use Email, Lync and
SharePoint online. We need to migrate all of Business  B in to Business A Office 365 Tenant.
My question is around SharePoint. How do we move Business B's SharePoint Online to Business A Office 365 tenant?
Thanks in advance.

You would need to use a migration tool, like Metavis or Sharegate to export, then import the content to the new tenant.

  • Moving or Copy from One Project Server Online Instance or Tenant to Another

    Hi
Has anyone tried to move or copy an instance or tenant of Project Server Online to another instance or tenant of Project Server Online?
We have been recommended FluentPro's FluentBooks for this.  Has anyone had any experience with doing or using this?

    Hello,
I have clients that have done this before and clients that are planning to do this (client currently in the implementation phase) using Fluent Pros tool. Fluent Pro's tools will save a lot of manual effort and the only other option currently to
date is to reconfigured the other online instance manually.
Fluent Pro's tool will easily copy over all of the Project Online instance config, if you have custom look at feel for PWA, custom pages, custom lists etc., these will need to be manually recreated on the target instance.
If you have anything specific you need to copy over, give the Fluent Pro guys a call to see if their tool will do it out of the box or see if they can customise the tool to meet your requirements...

  • Missing SharePoint Online Client Tenant Silverlight dll

I'm trying to find the microsoft.online.sharepoint.client.tenant.silverlight.dll to develop a Silverlight tenant control solution but I can't find it any where. It is mentioned specifically in the documentation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.online.sharepoint.tenantadministration.tenant(v=office.15).aspx
I've installed the SharePoint Online Client Components SDK: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42038 but I still don't have the dll.
    Any ideas?

  • Documents stored in SharePoint Online are slow to open if moved out of SP Online

My organization has had several instances where an employee will receive a document from a co-worker and then store it in one of their SharePoint online sites.  The employee then moves the document to another location not on SharePoint online.
From that point on the document is incredibly slow to open, often taking 30 seconds or more.  In addition if a user who doesn't have access to our SharePoint online environment receives the document via email and opens it a Office 365 logon prompt is
thrown up during the time the document is attempting to load.  It seems that once a document is stored in SharePoint online it will attempt to check in to the site it was stored in in some fashion when it is launched.  Any ideas as to if this behavior
can be changed so documents which are removed from SharePoint online continue to open quickly?
    Thanks,

  • Call an Non-SharePoint Secured RESTful API from a Workflow in a SharePoint Online Tenant

I have a scenario where I need to be able to make calls to a secured web service from a SharePoint 2013 workflow that will be deployed in a SharePoint Online (Office 365) environment. It is a REST web service that is secured in a 2-legged OAuth-like manner
(the service expects a hash of the data being sent that can then be validated on the service's end of the communication). The problem is, I can't figure out how I can hash the data, since I can't run any server-side code in the SharePoint Online environment.
The way I figured this should work is 1) user creates an item in a List on the SharePoint Site, which kicks off the workflow process. 2) the workflow process takes the user data and hashes it using a client secret assigned by the web service. 3) the
workflow creates a web request to the web service, passing the data and the hashed values. 4) the web service processes the input and returns. 5) the workflow continues to the next step.
I can't figure out how to implement step 2 in that process. I thought I could do a custom workflow activity that would accomplish it, but since it would pretty much have to be a code-based activity (i.e., not declarative), it can't be deployed in SharePoint
Online, according to the domentation I've found. I could potentially add a third layer in the process and have an auto-hosted app that I could call to do the hashing of the data, but that seems to defeat the purpose somewhat from a security perspective.
Has anyone else run into this kind of scenario? Doing this in an on-premesis environment would be easy, but that's not really an option.
    Thanks!

You should implement this by passing the values to a public (forms based auth) web method (secure over SSL) that does the hash for you and returns the value to your workflow so that it can pass it on to the other service.

  • Sharepoint Online Moving/Copying a Dev Site to a More Permanent Site

Hi everyone. I built a SharePoint online Workflow with forms etc within a Dev site collection. Now that it is working properly the way we'd like, I need to put it on a more permanent Site Collection. I am having trouble figuring out the proper way to do
this. My searches come up with some instruction that don't exactly match up to our site configuration settings so I am reluctant to actually try it as I'm afraid of wrecking something I've already built. Any tips or links to a good instructional forum or site
    would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

    Hi sragen,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to copy a workflow from a Dev site collection to other site collection in SharePoint Online.
If the workflow is a reusable workflow, you can save the workflow as template in SharePoint 2013 Designer, download it, then upload the workflow template into other site collections as a solution, and activate it.
Or, you can use a third party tool to do it, like:
    http://www.metalogix.com/Products/Content-Matrix.aspx

  • Project Online with an existing SharePoint Online tenant

Hi, As I understand Project Online includes his own SharePoint Online infrastructure, my customer needs evidence on if they implement Project Online this service will not interact with an existing site information on very customized SharePoint online intranet,

PWA is special site collection and like every site collection in SharePoint it is independent of other site collections.

  • Add Right Side Column and Web Parts to custom Master page in SharePoint Online

    Hello everyone,
I hope this is a simple question, however I was fighting the issue it presents for a while. I am in the process of customizing SharePoint Online Look-and-feel with a new layout.
The site collection was created as a
Team Site before I got involved with the project, and populated with numerous sub-sites and pages. I activated required
publishing features, created html with corresponding styles and graphics, and used the Design Manager to convert the html file to the custom Master page. While SharePoint automatically assigned “ContentPlaceHolderMain” div area, I
also used default Oslo page as example to copy sections of the code for dynamic components (left column and navigation, recent items, the ribbon, etc.) from it and placed them in my new master page, pointed all CSS references to
my custom style sheets, etc. Everything works great, however I need to make one last addition -
my task is to make changes to display web parts such as Calendar and Recent Documents in the right column in the Master page.
My custom layout has a header, footer, main pan and two side columns. Most of the default master templates come with the LEFT column already embedded and populated with several placeholder
to serve dynamic content (PlaceHolderLeftNavBarTop, PlaceHolderQuickLaunchTop, PlaceHolderLeftNavBarDataSource, PlaceHolderLeftActions, so on).
My challenge is that I have the RIGHT side column as well, for which I don’t think the default placeholder exists. I need to add a small Calendar box and Recent Documents parts to it, so they
display across the entire site governed by this master page.
    The issue is –
even after activating Publishing features (enabled SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure under Site Collection Level, and SharePoint Server Publishing under the Site
Level), there is no Snippet feature (usually available under the generic Publishing Site); this customization of the Team Site allows using Designer and apply custom templates, themes, so on, just like you would under the Publishing collection, but not the
Snippet utility I could use as the solution to embed the web parts on the master page.
Recreating the entire site under Publishing Collection is not an option due to the directions I was given, I am to use this existing one, and need to see if
there is a workaround to either activate the Snippet feature or use another solution to display the web parts inside of the column in the Master page.
If the only solution is to use Web Part Zone, what are the steps to add it AND populate it with the abovementioned apps?
Can anyone suggest how to create a workaround and add this feature? The environment is role-based so both elements need to be dynamically rendered based on the user’s role and activities.
I am more of a front end designer than developer, so if any custom coding and set up required, please kindly provide some basic steps, if possible?..
I greatly appreciate any help and suggestions!
    Thank You!
    Jeff
    Jeff V.

Updating your Master Page to also include a right rail should be sraight forward enough with a new div or divs in your master page and then the proper styles to make room for this column as well as position the column.
I have not seen why you cannot find the snippet gallery link when previewing a HTML Master Page in the browser. Have you tried loading the snippet gallery by its url? As an example, for my tenant on SPO, I can load the Snippet Gallery for the olso.master
    with the following url:
    https://pixelmill.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/ComponentConfigureControls.aspx?ComponentName=TopNavigationNoFlyoutWithStartNode&Url=%2F_catalogs%2Fmasterpage%2Foslo.master
Change the domain to match yours as well as update the "Url" querystring var to point to your master page. See if that loads the snippet gallery.

  • Routing documents using SharePoint Online workflows

    Hello,
I am trying to design a workflow for SharePoint Online, but have run into a few problems. Basically I need the workflow to work as follows:
     1. User submits a document (which is already in a Document Library in SharePoint) to a designated Supervisor for Approval
     2. Supervisor receives an email that a document is ready for approval. After reviewing:
           a. If Supervisor rejects, the document remains in the original folder
           b. If Supervisor approves, the document is automatically moved to a new folder named "Approved" within that same Document Library
I thought there would be a template in SharePoint Online that would offer these features (i.e. the Publishing Approval workflow template I am currently trying to use), but I can't seem to enable an option to have the file automatically directed to an
Approved folder. I have been reading online for the last hour or so and this seems to be possibly using Visual Studios, but I currently do not have that application. Are there any other options available?
Please note - each user has their own "Approval" folder. So, if possible, I would need to apply this as a template to each user and specify the path of the Approval workflow for each user.
I really appreciate any suggestions or advice you could provide.

    Hi,
You can create a SharePoint Designer approval workflow to achieve this requirement. In the workflow, on approval,  add a step to copy the file to your target location. The following link demonstrates the use of Copy functionality in SharePoint Designer
    2013.

  • Follow-up question about forms and SharePoint Online

I asked a question about life after InfoPath earlier, and got a good answer:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/fb23b3d9-8a09-4267-aab5-09929f6a3082/life-after-infopath-seeking-advice
After looking at all of the limitations of SharePoint Online, I'm wondering how developers are dealing with the limitations. Lets say you are asked to develop something that has complex logic, including fetching data from external web services, dynamically
displaying parts of a process to people depending on role, and ending up with a printable document. In our on-premises environment, InfoPath is well suited to this task, with some code behind for some things. Or, if not using InfoPath, we would use application
    pages and workflow.
Neither of those are available in SharePoint Online, so what would you do?

Some things, such as the conditional display of content, can be done via JavaScript. More advanced items, such as integrating external web services would likely require a SharePoint "app". A SharePoint app is essentially a link to a separate site
that is running an asp.net web app (or PHP, or whatever). This asp.net site can do anything it needs with any web services, or conditional formatting, or anything. Because it's registered as a SharePoint app, it can also call back into the SharePoint site
and work with data. So, a SharePoint App could present the user with a robust form that simply sends the data back to a SharePoint list. The SharePoint app can also be surfaced on the SharePoint site itself in an iframe, so the user won't know that the form
    is hosted by another server.
By the way, the ideas behind the app model permeate the entire SharePoint environment: instead of having the SharePoint server itself run all kinds of custom business logic, that workload is handled by other servers, so the SharePoint servers can be focused
on running the core bits of SharePoint. InfoPath puts a large load on the servers, so it's out.  XSLT list views also put a load on the server, so they're also out. SSRS is an amazingly fantastic tool, but is not supported in the cloud (and there's no
alternative). Timer jobs, event handlers, workflow, and many other things have been re-architected to take the load off the SharePoint servers.

  • Creating a folder for a document library in SharePoint online

Hello I am looking for a good place to get started on creating a folder for a document library using a powershell script. Thanks in advance for any help.

Here is a guide to creating folders and items in a document library for SharePoint Server/Foundation: Creating SharePoint Folders
and Items with PowerShell. You will need to tailor it to your needs as it's a demo for creating 50,000 items.
That's step 1 and contains the bulk of what you would need to do. Here's an example of connecting to a library in SharePoint Online using CSOM: Office
365 - PowerShell Script to Upload Files to a Document Library using CSOM. You won't be uploading files, but the parts where you connect and get a list are what you're interested in.
Now you'll combine bits from both of these scripts:
    1. Connect to SPO
    2. Get your list (looks like you need to first get the site collection and then the site)
    3. Create a folder
I figure it would look something like this (note I haven't tested this at all):
#Specify tenant admin and site URL
    $User = "[email protected]"
    $SiteURL = "https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sites/site"
    $DocLibName = "DocLib"$FolderTitle = "Example Folder"
#Add references to SharePoint client assemblies and authenticate to Office 365 site - required for CSOM
    Add-Type -Path "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\ISAPI\Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.dll"
    Add-Type -Path "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\ISAPI\Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Runtime.dll"
$Password = Read-Host -Prompt "Please enter your password" -AsSecureString
    #Bind to site collection
    $Context = New-Object Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ClientContext($SiteURL)
    $Creds = New-Object Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.SharePointOnlineCredentials($User,$Password)
    $Context.Credentials = $Creds
    #Retrieve list
    $List = $Context.Web.Lists.GetByTitle($DocLibName)
    $folder = $list.AddItem("", [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFileSystemObjectType]::Folder)
    $folder["Title"] = $FolderTitle
    $folder.Update();
