Moving SMTP mailbox

We are migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.  In Exchange 2003 we have 5 Mailbox Stores and in each Mailbox Store there are SMTP and System mailboxes.  After moving all user mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, do we have to
move all these SMTP and system mailboxes to Exchange 2010 also?  Please let me know.  Thank you.

You don't need to move the System and SMTP mailboxes. However, in order to uninstall the old server, you will need to make sure there no connected mailboxes. After that you can delete the store by dismounting it. This will remove the system mailboxes.
You can then safely uninstall the 2003.

Above is the Error i get when moving a mailbox to another database on the same Exchange mailbox Server 2013 using the EMS

    Hi MikeVATX,
Using the EMS I ran the Command
    below,
    Get-MailboxDatabase DBName | select name,*provision*
The result displayed that the Parameter IsExcludedFromProvisioning was set to True which i had to set to false by running the command below as per your guide.
    Get-MailboxDatabase -Identity DBName | Set-MailboxDatabase -IsExcludedFromProvisioning
    $ False
Then i was able to move the mailboxes.
It now works fine. Thanks for that solution.

So I'm about to do this, but the guide doesn't mention 2010 really, will the move affect any 2010 functionality? I will likely need months to migrate all users from 2010 to 2013 and am nowhere near ready configuring Exchange 2013 to start receiving emails
(I publish Exchange in TMG), does that need to be configured prior to moving this mailbox as well?

Moving the three Arbitration Mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, will not affect any functionality in Exchange 2010 at all. This is something you should do so that eDiscovery and Admin Auditlog works just as it says in the Deployment Assistant.
And no, you don't need to change the email routing or your namespace before you do it.

  • Who moved the mailbox

In Exchange 2003, how to find the user account who moved the mailbox after its moved

    Hi,
You can look up the detail log files of the move mailbox operation, which is save in XML format into the
\My Documents\Exchange Task Wizard Logs folder. The XML log file is generated on the disk with the errors pertaining to each failed mailbox move operation. The log file contains mailboxes that failed with message ID, date of message and subject
    in the log.
Note that the XML report may not be viewable
on a machine that does not have the XML parser installed. And the XML parser is automatically installed whenever you install any Exchange 2003 binaries on a machine.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks

  • Lost emails when moving between mailboxes

    Hello all
I encountered a huge problem today when sorting out some of my mail.
I'm currently running Mavericks and have several accounts set up on the Mail application - these include an Exchange account, and a Gmail (Google IMAP) account.
My Exchange account is expected to expire soon, and so I decided to drag-and-drop mail items from the Exchange mailbox to the Gmail mailbox. This appears to have worked flawlessly for all Sent items from the Exchange account - all sent items have been moved and I can now find the items on the Gmail web interface as well as through the Mail application, and as a result, the Sent items folder is empty on the Exchange account.
I repeated the process for all Inbox items, but it seems to have failed drastically! I cannot seem to locate the inbox items from neither the Gmail web interface nor the Mail application, and worse yet, the Inbox items folder is now empty on the Exchange account. I logged in to the Outlook web interface to see if perhaps the Exchange Inbox items would still be there, and oddly enough there are 13 messages there (the inbox previously contained hundreds of Inbox items) - so there is also some disconcordance between Exchange on the Mail application and on the Outlook web interface.
I'm quite confused as to how the drag-and-drop process appears to have worked well for the Sent items from Exchange to Gmail, but so poorly for the Inbox items. I'm not too happy with the fact that I seem to have lost nearly all of my Inbox items. I have checked the Mail 'Activity' window in the hope that maybe some sort of process was stuck - thus explaining this error, but there's currently no activity.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I would really appreciate anyone's help in resolving this matter/finding the mail items that appear to have gone missing.

    Dear Eric,
Apologies for the very late reply - I just thought I'd provide an update on my experiences.
From what I recall, neither rebuilding nor reindexing my mailboxes helped to recover the emails that were lost after dragging-and-dropping from the Exchange mailbox to the Gmail mailbox. However, after reading your reply to WilliamCWL, I explored the 'V2' folder from a Time Machine backup (one that was made not too long before I posted this thread) and found the Exchange mailbox. From there, I located and gathered the Exchange Inbox 'emlx' mail files, which I then converted to 'mbox' format, using a tool that I found online. I then imported the 'mbox' format file into Mail, and from Mail I was able to drag-and-drop the Exchange Inbox emails to the Gmail Mailbox!
Many thanks for your assistance in this matter Eric, it's much appreciated.
@ WilliamCWL - I hope that you were able to resolve your problem.
    Regards

  • "Message could not be moved to mailbox Trash" Error message

When I delete an email, either single or multiple, I get the message "Unable to Move Message" with the explanation "The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash....OK". Other than that it all seems to work OK and the emails do get deleted but how do I stop the message popping up every time?

I've had a similar problem, though it doesn't seem to happen with 4.2 - I think this was due to the fact that you can't do much with Exchange connections (e.g. for Google Mail) when you are not online. In iOS 4.2 the delete button stays grey'ed out when you are not online.

  • Could not be moved to mailbox

One of my mailboxes is not allowing me to put new messages into it. When I try to put a message in it, I get the response "The message “XXXX” could not be moved to the mailbox “XXXXXXXX” Any ideas about what's wrong?

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Moving Arbitration Mailbox growing size, taking hours

I am following the instructions in the deployment assistant to migrate an in-place Exchange 2010 setup to a new Exchange 2013 server.  I have reached the stage of migrating the arbitration mailbox from its original server to a database on the new one.
This process has now been running for 7 hours and as far as I can see the migrated mailbox size is larger than the database which used to house it.  The deployment assistant estimates this stage as requiring 10 minutes to complete.
Is there a problem and if so what can I do to resolve the issue?

    Thanks for your response.
    I'm moving one arbitration mailbox.
    The first command shows that
    DisplayName                                    Status
    TargetDatabase
    Microsoft Exchange                             InProgress
    Mailbox Database 0761821460
The second one, run on all the existing mailbox databases shows historical moves but nothing about this one.
I could be wrong about the database from which I'm moving the arbitration mailbox, but to the present time the details on the move show
    Data migrated:
    2.395 GB (2,571,811,149 bytes
The task has been running for 11 hours.
This is of concern for a task which is described as taking 10 minutes to complete.  Obviously if this is normal  and the deployment assistant is wrong in it's time estimate then I'll just let it run through.
    Thanks again

  • Columns Switching Position when Moving Between Mailboxes

I organize my mail with the "From" column first. I have done so since I first began using Mail. I find and recognize e-mail by sender. Lately whenever I switch to a mailbox that does not have the From column (or in which I do not need to see the From column), like Sent and drafts and then return to the Inbox, the From column is automatically moved to the end of my column views. Moving it back does no good as it relocates again the next time I look at a mailbox without it. I tried re-setting it, then quitting to preserve the settings, but one trip to Sent mail and the column relocates.
This is NEW behavior and if you ask me, buggy behavior. I count on my mail view being the way I left it last. Consistency is very important when you manage a lot of e-mail and this is definitely inconsistent and inconvenient.
Any ideas as to the problem?

Try going to the affected mailbox and then to the View menu.
Uncheck all boxes and the message will move to the left column.
Check the desired setting for the first column.
The column will show to the right of the message list.
Drag the subject heading to the right.
    Now Quit mail.
    This should save the preference.
    Reopen mail and check.
If it doesn't work then create a new user in system preferences and set up your mail in the new user.
    Test in the new user.
If it works in the new user move the com.apple.mail.plist from the user Library into the affected user and replace the plist with the one that works.
If it doesn't work in a new user either then you have a system wide issue.
That would require reinstalling Mail or the operating system.
If a reinstall is necessary use disk utility to determine if the system has any underlying problems first.
Go to disk utility and Verify Disk.
If it passes then pull the Mail program and reinstall it using the Optional Installs package on Install Disk 1.
Then download and install the 10.4.10 Combo update for intel from the Apple site.

  • Beware of Linked Mailbox status - Moving Unity_server mailboxes to Exchange 2010

    Hi all -
Here is a problem I encountered that I want to pass along to you:
When partnering Unity to Exchange 2010, the Unity_servername, USBMS_servername, EAdmin, and unitymsgstoresvc inboxes are moved from the old Exchange to the new 2010 server.  Using the Exchange Management Console, the users should show up as User Mailboxes, not Linked Mailbox.  A Linked mailbox in Exchange 2010 is an external account, i.e. an account in another forest.  If this occurs for the Unity_servername mailbox, external caller voice messages remain in UMR (UnityMTA) and you will see many application event log errors.  In EMC you will observe the account mailboxes show in Disconnected status.
If this happens to you, here is the fix:
Disable the Account from EMC in Exchange 2010.  Note you will get a prompt that the Exchange properties are being removed but the email inbox is NOT deleted.
    Re-enable the account from ADUC.
In EMC, go to Disconnected Mailboxes, select the Unity mailbox and select Connect.  In the Connect wizard, re-associate with the existing account. Re-enter the user alias and complete the wizard.
    Restart AvUMRSynchSvr service on Unity.
Hope this helps someone in the future!
    Sincerely, Ginger

Thanks Brad :-)  I forgot to mention I discovered a number of Internet hits that say this can happen with Move Mailbox.  Here's the link I used to begin researching the problem (hint: go all the way to the bottom of the web page - http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/Q_26308671.html).  Got to give kudo's to this most excellent Exchange resource - has helped me a bunch over the years!

  • Mail body is blank when moved to mailbox

    Hi all;
Recently (after Maverick was installed?), the mail that I organize into mailboxes (moved from my Inbox) is showing up with blank content. I regulary use three machines; the issue presents on my MacBook Air and my 27" iMac; the MacBook Pro seems to be OK.
    Wassup?
    Thanks;
    Chris

    Aha!
I figured it out. The names of the folders (mailboxes) into which I moved my archived mail (sent and received) started with a tilde (~) so that they were grouped. Removing the tilde seems to have solved the problem; all the missing text reappeared!

Base on my experience, Windows Azure Platform does not provide out-of-the-box mail server (neither SMTP nor POP3). You could use SendGrid to sent mail. About this issue, I recommend you could refer to
