Moving songs from i-pod mini to my i-tunes

I have two minis, a shuffle and a new nano. Two adulst and two kids, all sharing one i-tunes account. I have a new computer, and have songs on one of the minis. I want to get the songs from the mini onto the i-tunes account. I can move songs from the library to any of the i-pods, but can't figure out how to move from the i-pod to the i-tunes

I need to transfer my song list from my i-pod mini to my new IBook. The only issue is that I do not have the old computer. Is this possible without the I-Tunes library folder from the old computer?

    Jeff:
Thanks for the info, but I am a computer novice. How do I get my i-pod in disk mode? My i-pod mini is called Ann's I-Pod, and my user name is Ann & Tony or the quick name is anntony. Can you help me?

  • Moving songs from I pod to I pod

I have bought my daughter a new I pod for her birthday - how do I go about transfering all of her music from the old pod to the new one? Not all of the music is purchased as she has transfered songs from her CD collection too.

You can't transfer directly from one iPod to another. If the songs you had on your previous iPod are still in iTunes they will load onto your new one. You just need to connect your new iPod and follow the on screen instructions to register and name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like.
If the songs on the old iPod are no longer in iTunes you need to copy them back there so they can be used by the new one. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

  • Deleting songs from an ipod mini

If I delete a song from my playlist for my ipod mini does that mean that when I reconnect my ipod to the computer and it updates the ipod then the deleted songs will no longer be on the ipod?
If this is not the case can someone tell me how to delete songs from the ipod mini.
    Many thanks

    Dear Tula
I am not sure where to pull up the control window application that you mention. Where exactly is the link on the Itunes window?
Thanks for trying to help. It is very much appreciated and Happy New Year!

  • Transferring songs from an iPod Mini

I have an iPod mini and used to have a PC. I recently bought a MacBook, and now have iTunes 8 on my MacBook. How do I transfer to the songs from my iPod mini and transfer them to my MacBook into iTunes?

What about iTunes purchases that you buy on your computer, I can not transfer any of those songs onto my daughters iPod that she gave me since she got an iPhone for Christmas and no longer uses her iPod. We reset it and erased all the data and now it will only transfer one song. Sorry for getting in on this thread, no one responded to mine when I asked the question.
    Thanks,
    Vicky

  • How do I transfer songs from my ipod mini to my computer or to my itunes library? Songs/playlists show up as being on ipod but cant move to itunes library.

How do I transfer songs from my ipod mini to either my computer or to my itunes library.

    Hello Christopher,
There are 2 ways to go about this.  One is to use the manual method which is a little different depending on whether or not you use a Mac or a PC or you can opt to use a 3rd party software that can help you accomplish the task as well.  See this older thread for a list of possible software you could use.

  • HT1386 moving songs from an iphone to a computer

need help moving songs from an iphone to my computer

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use it to put everything back.

  • MOVING SONGS FROM PHONE TO SD CARD

I have a Palm centro that I just syncd for the first time and moved songs from my computer to the phone but I want to know if I can move it to the sd card??  I have at&t with windows computer please.
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
You can move songs to the card via Hotsync, or if you download and install a freeware application called Filez, you should be able to do it directly on the Centro.  When you put them onto the card, you will want to put them into a file folder called audio right off the root directory of the card.

  • PC (Windows) died - can I transfer tunes from I-pod mini to new PC?

Checked FAQs etc to see if possible to transfer tunes from I-pod mini to new Windows XP PC but can't see anything useful. Old PC crashed and I-tunes went with it, no chance of retrieving Library. Can it be done?
    TIA

    I pod mini   Windows XP

Before you try 3rd party software, try this.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), then the Yamipod program previously mentioned is good, and it's free.

  • Retrieving Songs from I Pod

Help!! I lost all my files on my computer along with it all the music I have on my I pod. I had to format the HD to get my Dell back up running. I have re loaded I Tunes on the computer. My question is how do I retrieve my Music off my I pod back to the computer? The support only shows how to do this if you still have the original I Tunes file on your computer and never lost all your files. All music on my I pod came from CD's not purchsed from I tunes store.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Transfer songs from a ipod mini that was created from another account

I bought a used ipod mini that came loaded with over 400 songs which I would like to add to my itunes MAC account. The ipod mini is in Windows format and I understand that at sometime in the future I will have to restore the ipod mini in order to convert the device from Windows to MAC format thereby losing all the songs and data that are currently on the ipod. My itunes level is 7.6.1. I am running OS X 10.4.5.
Is there any way to transfer or upload the songs from this device to my IMAC itunes account even though the songs were purchased and downloaded to the device by the original owner using his Windows itunes account.
    Thank You.

Since you did not purchase the songs, they are not legally yours to keep.

  • Moving songs from a shared music library on my laptop to my desktop

I have the music libraries shared. But I cannot drag songs from my laptop music to iTunes in my desktop. Why not? These are not iTunes purchased songs but songs downloaded off internet in flac format, converted to aiff and loaded into iTunes on my laptop. I can play them but I cannot drag them into the desktop library. I want to put them on my iPod, which syncs with the desktop. I guess I'll have to burn them to cd to put them on the desktop. But it seems I should be able to copy from one shared library to another.

I have the music libraries shared.
Just to be clear, there is plain ol' sharing, and then there is "home sharing", the latter being an extension of the former. So, you turn on sharing, and then enable "home sharing", per those other articles I referenced in a prior post.
But if you are technically proficient, as JG said, copying the files using the Mac Finder is the best option. Preserves playlists, rankings, artwork, etc. The iTunes "home sharing" is really well suited for keeping two machines libraries synced and is probably a tad easier, but for that initial copying/moving of a library, doing it at the Mac Finder option is best, if a tad more complicated.
