Moving songs from ipod to itunes

is there any way to move music i've purchase from itunes from my ipod back on to the original computer?
recently i purchased some items on itunes and moved them to the ipod. 1 day later the hard drive on the mac failed. since i backup to an external drive about once a week most of my library was on the backup drive, but now the recent purchased are only on my ipod.
its not a huge loss, but i'd like to get those recent purchases back in my library if possible on my new hard drive.

Help moving songs from ipod to itunes

I had to do this a few months back and was able to contact someone about this and I did it, but then my computer crashed and I had to get a new hard drive so I think I have everything on my ipod ready, but I just need to know how to put my songs back on my computer. I authorized it and I was able to move all my purchased music on there, but thats it.

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

I know this has to be incredibly easy and I'm sorry for having to ask but I can't seem to find the answer. I have all my music on my iPod. Old computer was stolen and I want to move it to my new computer. What are the steps?

Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. Moving playlists from ipod to itunes?

I've recently bought a new computer and ipod, no problems moving my itunes across, but the playlists (some of which took hours to create and maintain) are only on my old ipod.
Anyone know a way to move a playlist from ipod to itunes, sorry if I'm being stupid but I can't figure it out!

Sorry I can't help...but I have dumber question I think. I've bought songs at itunes store and they only download to one of the ipods I use when sync. does anyone know how to get the songs i've paid for on multiple ipods? thanks

There're lots of programs that can help you doing this. Transfer songs from yoou iPod and bought on iTunes Store is even easier, you just need to click "Transfer Purchases" on the left Source Panel.

Make sure your not connecting it to more than one PC. A new iPOd is set to "Auto Update" by default. With this setting all you do is plug the iPOd into the PC and iTUnes automaticly opens, loads all the songs it has listed in iTunes to the iPod, and after its done, ejects the iPOd.
If you connect it to another PC tho with iTUnes on it you usually get a promtp that in short says "iPOd library linked to another PC, do you want to link to this one" if you click yes, it wipes the iPOd clean and loads only whats on that PC.

One last thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

You could try , at your risk, purchasing a third party program that may extract info ( not supported by Apple).

How do I get my legitimate songs from iPod to iTunes? Old computer died and have new iMac but same apple id?!!

I won't lie, iTunes confuses the **** out of me. I thought I had it sussed though, clearly I was wrong...
Okay, got a new iMac when my last pc finally died. Synced my ipod to it no worries at all, never lost a song. I assumed it was because I had home sharing or because I'd authorised my new computer using my old apple id?
Now I have a problem though. This is the first time I've actually had a good look at what happens when I connect the ipod to itunes. It will let me add new music that I've burned from my cds. However, it won't let me save any of the previously burned music on this ipod to the itunes library, even though I used itunes and the same apple id to do it originally on my old pc. I want to do this so I can transfer some of the music to my iphone which has less memory (we have an ipod playlist and iphone playlist because of the memory available).
Is there a setting I've got wrong or is this because itunes legitimately believes I'm trying to infringe a copyright? I thought my apple id would mean they knew everything I'd done under that id before? Do I have to burn the cds all over again?
Pls ask me to clarify anything if I've not provided the right info.

A lot of content is available to down load from the purchased are of Itunes Store on all devices and computers.
If you do not use iTunes Match, I don't then the computer is your source of your own non purcased content. This you can share with 5 Computers and 5 Devices.
That is why it is important to keep a backup of this data so it can be restored to that computer or mover to a new one and you can resync it to your devices

the trial version allows u to recover up to 100 songs..
if u want to recover more..
u have to purchase the full version..
and make sure u dont update ur library..if u do ur songs will be gone forever

Well guys,
To make a long story short, I'm helping out a friend who just converted from a PC notebook to a Mac Pro. A sweet choice, I know...
But he thought that he had backed up all of his music on an external but erased it thinking he had backed up his collection elsewhere. So now his collection of music is lost, except for that his songs are still on his iPod classic. It's not stored in disk mode, unfortunately. It's just synched up normally.
There must be a way to put his songs on his new computer. We've scoured the forums and can't find much. Can you help, please?

Go back a couple pages in this forum to an article about moving songs to a new laptop and using your i-pod as a hard drive. It might solve your problem.
