Moving songs in Ipod shuffle

I have all my songs loaded in my IPOD shuffle, and they play fine, but I would like to rearrange the songs in my shuffle to put them in a certain order. I have tried clicking and moving them and it does not work. Do I have other options to rearrange the song order, or would I have to delete all the songs and put move them in, in my order of preference?

You've tried clicking and moving them where? In which playlist? Are you thinking you can just fiddle around with the iPod playlist there in Source? You can't.
Oh, well, and leaving aside the whole question of why have an iPod Shuffle if you really want to play things in defined sequences ... the way to do that is to
a) create a playlist in iTunes, then
b) set iTunes up so that it's not shuffling things on its own, then
c) move all of your desired tracks into that playlist, making sure that it's sorted on track number and not on something else, then
d) rearrange the contents of that playlist to suit you, and then finally
e) drag that whole playlist into the Shuffle icon there in the Source list.

  • ITunes Unable to Retrieve Songs from iPod Shuffle on newly reformatted lapt

I just reformatted my computer - reinstalling the OS on my HP Laptop (uses XP)....and now, after trying to retrieve music files, which apparently I did not save correctly, iTunes will not allow me to import the songs from my iPod shuffle. I get a message that my computer is not authorized. I followed the instructions and "authorized" my computer, but to no avail - it will not recognize my shuffle - and I cannot even get the music I put onto my shuffle from my personal CD collection - which had been placed onto my music lists prior to my reinstalling the OS. HELP........!! Please.......anyone.....if you are an Apple employee and reading this - why is it so doggone hard to get help in understanding how to use this technology???? Can I get a little help here ????????
thank you anyone -- Robert Bond

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in iTunes enable it for disk use, this is required for most if not all the utilities listed below so they can access the files: Using your iPod as a storage drive
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and you need to check out that they work with the shuffle as well as the larger iPods. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
Once you have copied all the songs back to iTunes it will be safe to "Erase & Sync" the iPod on connection to link the shuffle to this new library

  • Can't sync songs to ipod shuffle anymore

Since being on itunes last, about 4 0r 5 months ago, something has changed. I can no longer transfer songs from my playlist to my ipod shuffle. my ipod shuffle does not show  so i can download songs to it as I use to be able to. What has changed?

I received the same message a while ago and I just kept trying over time and finally it worked. It appears there is a problem with Apple's servers since the computer and to communicate with Apple to authorize/de-authorize.

  • How to arrange songs on ipod shuffle the way I want them to be played

I just got an Ipod shuffle in India.....2 GB....I want the songs to be played in a particular order only the way I can do on MP3 players....How do I arrange songs the way I want them to be played serially?

If you have iOS 5 on the iPad then you can create new albums directly on the iPad - you should get an Edit button at the top of the Albums screen in the Photos app. That will allow you create and 'copy' photos into those new albums (you can't copy photos into synced albums), but you can't delete the original photo - if you do delete it then all copies of it that you've put in other albums will also be deleted. I don't think that the total number of photos increases on the iPad when you copy photos into new albums, so I think that you effectively just creating pointers to them in those new albums, so if you delete the original photos on the iPad then all pointers to it will also be deleted.

  • How to put songs in ipod shuffle

how to put songs in ipod shuffle

This document describes the ways to put music on a shuffle (and also shows the four shuffle models)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
If the shuffle is the current 4th gen (or 3rd gen), here is one convenient way to do it.
Create a new playlist in your iTunes library, and put all of the songs you want on the shuffle on that playlist.  (Or you can use an existing playlist.)  Back on the shuffle's Music screen in iTunes, check the checkbox forSync Music.  Choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, find that playlist under Playlists and select (checkmark) it.  You can select other items on those lists if desired, including other playlists.
When you click Apply, the songs in your selection(s) sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, to update the shuffle's songs, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The shuffle does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the shuffle (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes automatically updates the shuffle with the same changes.

  • Cant seem to put more than 41 songs on ipod shuffle

i cant seem to sync more than 41 songs onto my new ipod shuffle and can not figure out why. i have tried to sync my entire music library on itunes and still the same 41 songs that i put on first appear and nothing more. plz help.......

Even with 2GB storage space you should be able to sync more then 41 songs although bear in mind, it's not about how many songs but the song files sizes.
Instead of trying to sync your entire library, try syncing your fav songs first, say 25 at a time.

  • Trouble deleting songs from iPod Shuffle, 2nd generation

I have a 2nd generation iPod Shuffle. I have songs on my iPod I want to delete. These particular songs no do not show on my playlist on iTunes. How do I delete them from my actual iPod? I have tried in vain to do so. Thanks so much.

Thanks, Brenden. I was able to restore my iPod Shuffle, following the provided link. All of the songs on the Shuffle were deleted.
I had the songs in my iTunes library that I wanted to sync with the Shuffle. I checked the songs in the library I wanted synced, but none of them came back on my Shuffle. Odd. It stated the "sync was complete," however, my Shuffle remains empty of any songs.
Oh well ... Will work at this more to see what the problem is. At least I have the songs in my iTunes library.

  • Retrieving songs from ipod shuffle... Help!

I have an ipod shuffle that was linked to my home computer's itunes. I loaded it with tunes (some that I bought from itunes). My computer crashed and I had to re-initialize the whole hard drive. (I did not have the songs backed up. Stupid, I know!) Now when I plug my shuffle in, I get the message about it being linked to another itunes library. That library doesn't exist anymore. It says if I relink it to the current itunes (which I want to do) it will erase the songs from my ipod and replace them with songs from the current library. I don't want to erase them because the ipod is the only place that they exist. When I say no it ejects the ipod icon from my desktop. How can I get the songs from my ipod to my new itunes or at least add new songs to the ipod without losing what's already on there?

It always seemed like iPodRip should work, and we played with it a lot, but always seemed to keep rubbing up against the same problem — it only works if the iPod stays mounted and, unless the Shuffle is in Disk mode, it always unmounts as soon give the standard "No" answser to iTunes.
We couldn't figure out a way to get iPodRip to work while iTunes was still in the loop at all, and there was no way to get her Shuffle into Disk mode without .... well, going into iTunes and therefore dumping out all of her songs, which was what we were trying to avoid in the first place.
Working with my own iPS, which I always keep in Disk mode, was just fine and it does seem to be a slick little app. I still have it on my own system but, of course, I haven't needed it for anything else. My friend has been off looking more into this on her own, and I have no idea what her progress in the past week or so has been.
Based on that, assuming we didn't just miss something really obvious, it seemed that it's only partially good on Shuffles. I've never heard of the other one but will take a look and see if I can get that to work any better. In the meantime, if there is some little trick to getting iPodRip to work with a normal (not in Disk mode) iPS I'd be interested in learning about that, too.

  • How to add new songs to ipod shuffle from different computer with different itune library without change old songs on ipod?

    Hello,
I am using ipod shuffle. Now it's having some songs.these songs was synchronised with my old desktop itune library. Now i changed to laptop and downloaded latest itune software. Now i need to add more songs to ipod without change old songs on ipod. How it's possible? Please help.

The way iTunes and iPods are designed is not compatible with what you want to do. The best approach would be to open iTunes on your old desktop, and make a backup of your iTunes library, from which you can copy across all the songs from your old library onto your new laptop - not just the ones that were synced to the shuffle. One place to start for instructions on how to do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364
The other approach is to search online for a utility that will copy songs off an iPod without syncing it, add those songs to your new library, and then erase-and-sync the Shuffle. This way, you only get to save whatever was synced to the Shuffle at the last sync.

  • Certain iTunes Music Store songs cause iPod Shuffle to crash

Are people still having problems with certain songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store causing their iPod Shuffle to crash? I am!
The following threads deal with it, but they are now closed to posts:

The 3 songs I am having problems with are off Enya's Amarantine album (12 songs+3 videos):
    Long Long Journey
    Someone Said Goodbye
    Water Shows the Hidden Heart
(these 3 songs are not the videos on the album)
Is anybody else having problems with these songs, or others? iTunes Music Store support have not been able to resolve this issue for me yet.

Okay, I returned one of the shuffles, the one they sent as a replacement, and kept the original. I was told that they particular person I spoke with was not able to completely refund my money for the original shuffle. Perhaps if I had taken this farther, I would have gotten a full refund since there is obviously a defect with the product in the current state. I settled on keeping the shuffle, hoping that there might be a software update in the future to fix the problem, in addition to accepting a RAM upgrade to my Mac Mini for my trouble. I am satisfield but I think there is a bigger problem here thet needs to be addressed or Apple might find themselves with another unattractive class action lawsuit. It seems obvious that the shuffle is sensitive to the way certain songs are encoded that does not pose a problem for other iPods. This makes sense since the shuffle isn't even capable of playing the same abundance of codecs that the other iPods can play. I think the decoder used in the Shuffle or the software used has a problem that needs to be addressed.
I did take the three problem songs from the Enya album and burned them to CD and then ripped them back with the word "copy" at the end so they would not conflict with the original purchased songs. It worked perfectly! I'll keep any originals around to test as software updates become available in the future and if the problem gets fixed, I can just dump the ripped copies.
Hope you all work your problems out to your satisfaction, they were quite friendly about the whole thing.

  • I can't play song using iPod shuffle 2nd generation

No light at all when i want to play song from my iPod shuffle 2nd generation

This is the official Apple part
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA694G/A
It's somewhat expensive compared to the cost of a brand new shuffle.  There are plenty of third-party replacements that cost less, if you search eBay, Amazon, and elsewhere on something like "shuffle cable."  Some of the third-party cables have a dock and some just have a connector.
It is VERY important that the product's description says it is for the 2nd gen iPod shuffle.  The 3rd and 4th gen shuffles use a cable with a different connector, so it will not work with a 2nd gen shuffle.
