Moving Tabs in the timeline

Hi
Is it possible to organise the tabs in the timeline window? I had them perfect but then FCP crashed and when i restored the project all the tabs were out of place. I tried moving/dragging them into order along the timeline but that didn't work. It's not a biggie but it helps with my workflow
Thx

Have solved the problem by dragging each of the tabs into a new window

  • Premier Pro v7.0 : Missing Sequence Tab in the Timeline

I have two sequences named Blue and Green in my project.  Both were represented by tabs in the Timeline.  One of these tabs (the Blue Sequence) has disappeared so that I can no longer access the relevent timeline sequence for any further work on it.  I have added a third empty sequence called Sequence 03 simply for illustration purposes.
I have obviously pressed the wrong key at some point which has caused all this data to disappear but I can find nothing in the help information here or online that can identify the fault.   The screenshot appears below.

    Many thanks ; problem solved.

  • I am moving clips to the timeline and they arrive zoomed in.  how can I stop this?

need some help.  I'm moving clips to the timeline and they arrive zoomed in.  I don't want this effect.  How can I stop it?

To expand a little on John's questions and link, every clip and every sequence has its own frame dimensions (and pixel aspect ratio & frame rate). By default, Premiere preserves the dimensions (or "resolution") of a clip when you add it to a sequence. That means that if a clip's resolution is greater than that of the sequence, it will appear to be zoomed in on the frame. Conversely, if the clip is lower res than the sequence, it will appear shrunk, with black borders.
If all of your content is the same resolution (which is the ideal case), then you should use a sequence that matches. The easiest way to do so is the "New Item" method that John refers to--dragging a clip to the Project Panel's New Item button--or, in later releases of PPro CC, dragging it into an empty Timeline panel. If you're working with content of mixed resolution, then you have to pick your poison and scale smaller clips up or larger clips down. The latter option is generally preferred because the former--scaling clips up--often results in unacceptable pixelation.

  • Moving clips to the timeline

I have a partially edited video in the timeline. I also have a lot of clips still sitting on the clip pane (or whatever it's called). Is there a way to transfer, say, next 34 clips to the timeline all at once, in order? I really don't feel like dragging clips 34 times.

    yikes!!
    sorry
there is just so many threads. *but thankyou for the
    info!!*
as for reading the manual... sometimes they do not explain the "clear & understanding" way - exactly what i need to know. i figure if i asked somebody that "knows" i would beable to get much better info .... from somebody who knows the tricks
I did some messing around last night and figured out how to crop .. its just growing pains. (i have been using pc's my whole life) ... this mac experience is fun though!

  • Problem Moving Clips in the Timeline

When I edited previously, I was able to drag one clip close to another, and it would automatically go directly next to that clip in the timeline. Also, when using the razor tool, bringing the razor close to the playhead would cause the cut to be made exactly where the playhead was in the timeline. This suddenly stopped happening--now when placing one clip next to another, it does not automatically stop where the next clip begins, and I have to be very careful so that they don't overlap in the timeline. The razor tool is likewise not drawn to the playhead.
I'm sure that I must have inadvertently hit a button that caused this, but cannot figure out what I did. I've looked around trying to find out how to fix the problem, but I haven't been able to find anything. I'm sure the answer is probably quite obvious, so I appreciate the understanding, and I would be very grateful for any help.

    Welcome to the forum!
Sounds like you have inadvertently turn Snapping off. The n key toggles it off and on. There should also be a button near the upper right of the Timeline window for it.

  • Moving clips in the timeline

    Hi
I would like to cut out a clip or two with CTRL + X to cut them out, but can I place the marker between two clips and insert them (not as overwrite)
    Thanks
    Ulf

Yes. You can use Clip>Insert to insert edit a clip into the timeline from the source monitor. If you mark an in point, that will be the point where the clip is inserted. If you don't have an in point marked, it will insert the clip from the playhead.
You can also do a paste insert (under the "Edit" menu bar item) if you have copied a clip previously. All these can be mapped to shortcuts.

  • Trouble moving songs on the timeline

I have several songs on the timeline which I want to adjust/move around but when I click on the song all I get is the "plus" sign curser and nothing moves. It was working fine yesterday but today not so good. Any suggestions? I have closed and reopened the program but the problem still remains.

Your recent prior threads suggest that you are using Premiere Elements 11. Did you resolve your audio out of sync issue that you reported in your last thread? I ask since I did not see any follow up on that from you in that thread. If you did resolve the problem, how did you do that?
In this present situation, if you open a new project, do you have the same issue that you are now having in for the existing problematic project?
What is the format of the audio in this case and on what audio track in Premiere Elements 11 is it? Are you working in the Expert or the Quick workspace?
We will be watching for your further description of the issue.
    Thanks.

  • Not happy with moving around keys on the timeline

I just changed from Final Cut to Premiere CS5.0 and I really like it. Working on a Macbook Pro i5 2.3GHZ, Mac OSX 10.7 But I am not happy with moving around on the timeline. I was used to using the up and down arrows to move to next video edit point, marker point or audio edit point. I tried everything to change it, highlighted the track etc. It only works together with the FN key, which is a bit uncomfortable. And then it definetely is not going to any audio edit points (very annoying!!!) and marker points (have to use Q and W keys). It makes me doubting if continuing with Premiere or not. Its such an esencial and easy to use tool while editing in a normal fast editing rythm. When I change it in the customize keyboard menu, into a Custom keyboard or FCP keyboard, it would ignore my changes on the arrowkeys, although it recognizes any other changes I do. Is it so complicate to change this issue in Premiere to how it is set in FCP? Its such an obvious tool, using the arow keys to move around, cannot beleive that we have to live with such a limitation. Please!!!

You dont have to live with that at all if you are fixed only to what you have previously done.

    There ya go!

  • Gaps between clips on the timeline

I wonder if there is a way to gain control of moving clips on the timeline. If I grab a video clip on the timeline and drag it left, it bumps the adjacent clip and moves it left. If I haven't let go of the mouse and move the held clip back towards the right, the clip I bumped doesn't go back to its original position. If I leave the held clip where I dropped it, there is now a gap, which looks bad and can mess with the playback in iMovie.
I would like a way to drag clips so that they butted up to the adjacent clip without moving it. I would also like a way to remove any gaps in one fell swoop.
I am relatively new to the app: but to remove a gap, the only (lame) way I can see to fix it is to manually move each clip to the right of the gap. But because the clips that I would bump can move, that screws up everything. There must be a better way.
    thanks,
    Jim

Catspaw's solution is a good way to remove all the gaps. Note that to see the gaps represented as "Black" clips (instead of gaps) you must view the Timeline in Clips mode. Click on the little rectangle icon above the left end of the Timeline.
Gaps disappear as you describe when you've previously added a gap by dragging a clip to the right. Creating that gap was probably a mistake, so losing it isn't usually a problem. If the gap appeared when you moved a clip right, the Edit > Undo Move command lets you undo that move.
If you created the gap intentionally -- to serve as a placeholder for a clip you want to add later -- you can make it "permanent" by changing its color from black to some other color. (With the timeline in Clip mode, double-click on the "Black" clip to change its color.) Now the gap won't disappear as you drag clips towards it.
All dragging functions are made easier by turning on these two features in iMovie preferences: 1) Snap to items in Timeline and 2) Play sound effects when snapping. When you drag a clip it's a lot more likely to land where you want it.

  • How do I automatically centre all clips in the timeline?

    Hi,
I imported a clip, spliced it up into several clips, added a bunch of effects... and then realized it wasn't centered to begin with. As a result all my clips are positioned off-screen in the exact same manner. Is there a way to automatically centre them? CS5.5
    Thanks.

Hm. Are you sure about that?
I just tested this: I imported a clip. I moved it into the timeline and it was aligned properly. I clicked the preview window which allowed me to reposition the clip; which I did towards the right. Then I spliced the clip up into multiple clips and also copied a few splices.
Result: All the clips were mis-aligned to the right. I believe this is what happened initially too.
I highly doubt it's project settings or something of that sort. I have all of those settings saved as custom settings and my source files are recorded identically to files in the past where I used this custom setting with no such problem.

  • Encore 1.5 -problem getting audio on the timeline

hi - newbie question!!!- i am trying to add audio to my mpeg2 video clip on the timeline in encore 1.5 - i believe you drag and drop the asset from the projects tab into the timeline but when i open the timeline and click the projects tab the timeline dissapears so i am unable to drop audio into the timeline.
is there any way of ensuring both tabs are open at the same time to allow this ?

What workspace do you have set up?
In our installation of Encore 1.5 it is perfectly possible to have the project assets list and a timeline both open at the same time.

  • ODD issue with the "timeline" getting moved over

notice the left side of the timeline how its been moved from the left side of the full interface window. even if i close the projects tab on the left the timeline "still" does not default to the very left side. what happened is i was pulling a clip away from the far left and i actually pulled the timeline instead. ive thrown away preferences and set as best back to any defaults i could find but nothing fixes this oddity.
also, it has nothing to do with the scrolling bars!
i ended up just throwing away the whole app and am now downloading the full program again. has to be a bug?

something is different still i think? zero meaning the beginning is just zero. in your example you have an audio clip laying further to the left than where your 00:00 actually is. how is it that you can get a piece of your audio to cross  over that point and butt up to the side of project panel? my clips only go to the edge of that opening, not in it?
id swear it wasnt there until i notice i pulled it over. maybe im dreaming.
    david
EDIT: yep, i must be on drugs or something because its there on some tutorials ive been watching. never noticed before until i did something then there was the illusion that i made that space. id still like to know though how you got your file to lay to the left of zero. thanks for your help!

  • I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but can't it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

You cannot drag the effects themselves to the timeline.  You add them to a clip in the Viewer, just as you have done.
If the clip was already in the timeline when you  opened it in the Viewer (by double-clicking it in the timeline to open it in the Viewer) and then added the reverb effect, there is nothing further to do, you have added the effect to the clip.  You don't drag it back to the timeline.
You only have to drag the clip to the timeline if the clip was not already in the timeline (for example, if you opened the clip from the FCE Browser; or set different In and Out points in a master clip to use a different portion of the master clip in a different location in your timeline).
Depending on the effect you add, you may have to render the timeline after adding the effect.  But I don't think reverb requires immediate rendering.  One other note, you said you were working with an audio clip ... audio clips need to be AIFF (not MP3 or something else) and preferably 16-bit stereo.

I came up with an alternative solution.
Instead of actually trying to move the JInternalFrame from one JDesktopPane to another, I added a single, maximized JInternalFrame to the left side. When one of the right side frames is to be docked, I merely copy its ContentPane to the single JInternalFrame on the left, set the original to be non-visible, and adjust the properties of the JSplitPane to make the "docked" frame appear.
When the "close" button on the docked frame is pressed, I simply undo this procedure to "undock" the frame and redisplay it on the right-hand side (with its content intact from the docked frame, but in its original position).

Maybe it can't put it on the track above it because you have the lower track set as the Source Patching destination.
