Using sharepoints you can create a public folder anywhere on your mac. You can also setup an external volume as a sharepoint on your network.

I am having a problem moving files from an imac in one location to an imac inanother location.  I have tried using Dropbox which is installed in both locations but when i drad a file ino yhe app it becomes an alias.  When I get to the other location it says I can't open the file because the " original application that created it is not present".  This is despite the fact that the app that created both files is installed in both computers.  If I use the Public folder in the idisc, when I get to the other location the file isn't there.  Am I forgetting to turn something on or off?  Should I manually sync the Public folder and if so how? Thanks

  • Error when moving Exchange Public Folder Tree Hierarchy

    Hello,
I am during the transition from Exchange 2003 to 2007.
At the end of migrating Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 I have moved all the mailboxes, Public and System Folders have been replicated and moved, Mailbox Store and Public Store had been removed, Routing Connectors removed ...
I then created new Public Folder Container in Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) and I attempted to drag and drop the Public Folder Tree Hierarchy from old Administrative Group to Exchange Administrative Group using ESM 2003.
During this I got the following error:
    Access Denied.
    Facility: LDAP Provider
    ID no: 8007005
    Exchange System Manager
Every public and system folders works fine (replicated to Exchange 2007), but the Public Folder Hierarchy is still on Exchange 2003.
Anyone has any idea how to continue decommission of Exchange 2003?
    Regards,
    Jacek

As I wrote before, when I tried to drag and drop the Public Folder Tree Hierarchy, I used account which had delegated Exchange Full Administrator role in Exchange 2003 and was also member of Enterprise Admins / Domain Admins in AD and Exchange Organization
Administrators in Exchange 2007. According to Sembee suggestion, it is more than needed ...
I think about manual deleting Public Folder Tree Hierarchy object from old Administrative Group (using ADSIEdit) and then recreating the new one in Exchange Administrative Group - using the following steps:
    http://blog.bruteforcetech.com/archives/766
But I'm not sure if System Folders will be accessible then. There are many Outlook 2003 in organization, so "old" OAB access is necessary ...
I can take report of permissions for the problematic Public Folder Tree Hierarchy object using dsacls.exe, if needed (there are many ACEs in DACL on them). I can also check Effective Permission for user I used for moving.
But in both cases, I don't have any reference. I mean correct permission set for such object or necessary permission set for user used for moving.

No. There is no iDisk with iCloud. You can use one of several third-party alternatives like SugarSync, ADrive, or MediaFire.

  • Drop Box folder in the Public folder not showing on the network

    Hi everyone,
I am running a MacBook Pro 2010 running OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion. We have an office and multiple mac computers connected to our network. For us to transfer files we use the Drop Box folder inside the Public folder (We do not use the dropbox website/service). We would use the finder and click on the computer on the sidebar, open the Drop Box folder and drag files in with no hassel. However my Drop Box folder is not showing up when other users are trying to access my computer via the network.
My file sharing is on and I have attached an image with the settings I am using. I have compared these settings to other macs in the office that have a working Drop Box folder and they match. Hope you guys can help me.

  • Changing the Public Folder name or owner's name of a MacBook running 10.5

    Hi
Does anyone know how or if, I can change the name of my Public Folder or alternatively change my MacBook's owner name?
It seems crazy that after years of releasing software Apple would default a folder name to the full name of the owner with no shortname option and not warn you that the name you use would become a long winded folder name.
    Thanks
    John

    Hi,
To change the name of your computer just open System Preferences from the Applications folder and click on sharing.
Click on the lock in the bottom left corner of the window if it is locked. At the top of the window there is a box with the computer name in it, just change this to what you want.
I would advise against changing the name of the Public folder but if you don't want it to be viewable on the local network click on it and press command + i, under the general tab you can untick the shared folder option. You can then create another folder within your home directory (name it anything you want) and bring up the get info window and select the shared folder option.
    Hope this helps

  • Owner of the public folder is not able to move or remove or create items underneath

    Scenario:
"ABCD" is the parent folder to which the user A given owner rights using EMC console.
system admin creates 2 new sub-folders underneath and given user A with "owner" rights. Now the problem is out of 2 sub-folders one works fine(it means "user A" got full rights) and other one does not allow the "user A" to move,
    remove, created items.
Issue is specific to only one user, any more ideas if you can suggest me to resolve this please?
this is for Exchange 2010 SP3 environment.

    Hi,
From your description, this issue affects only one user.
Please use the Get-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity "public folder" command to check the permissions.
If possible, please remove and re-add the public folder permission to check result.
If you have multiple DCs, please make sure there is no replication issue.
Besides, please run the get-mailbox  | fl default* cmdlet to check the default public folder mailbox and compare with other normal users.

  • Can I delete the "Public" folder?

I'm wondering if I can delete the Public folder, or if I should refrain from doing so?
I've tried to figure out what the purpose of the Public folder is, but I'm not sure if I've understood correctly..
As far as I can see, it's there for other people to access the files within (which I don't find very comforting in the first place).
Since I have no use for sharing files with people this way, I figure I have no use for this folder either.
So, that's my reasoning for wanting to delete this folder.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Where the Public Folder comes in handy is if you want to share files between other users of your Mac. Normally, when you log on, you cannot access other user account's files...except for the Public Folder. If you are the only user, then even though you won't really take advantage of this feature, you really won't gain much from deleting it either.

  • I can't get my pictures into the public folder on the iPad 3.  Can anyone walk me through the steps?

I can't get my pictures into the public folder on the iPad 3.  Can someone walk me through the steps?

Ok, I'll give it a try.
Presuming you already have a Dropbox account, and you have the app on your pad.
Open the app, navigate to public folder.  Touch the upload icon at the bottom.  It will show you everything you have already uploaded.  To upload a new picture, then touch the plus sign at the top right.     You can create one or more subfolders to organize it however you want.
Hit the plus sign again if needed, and the photo listing will show up.  Find the photos you want and mark them by touching them.  Then touch the blue word upload in the upper right.
( the directions assume the pad is in the landscape mode.)
That's really all there is to it.  As I typed this I opened and uploaded a couple of pics to get the steps right.

  • Proxying to Balancer Members - Can't see the public folder?

I'm following instructions in this tutorial:
    http://developer.apple.com/tools/deployonrailsleopard.html
I've created four Balancer Members and enabled the reverse proxy, so the requests to port 80 are being balanced to Mongrel processes running on 3000, 3001, 3002, and 3003.
But a strange thing is happening regarding my "public" folder...
I have a public folder containing some graphics, stylesheets, javascript file, etc. It is found at:
    /Library/WebServer/substruct/current/public
When I browse directly to a Mongrel process (ie: "http://localhost:3000), the public folder is found and the pages render fine.
But when I browse to port 80 (ie: "http://localhost), the public folder is not found and my pages look awful (ie: no stylesheets, graphics, etc).
When I first set the server up (following the tutorial), the pages rendered fine when I browsed to port 80. Then suddenly this problem started appearing, seemingly out of nowhere:
Pages look fine when I browser directly to ports 3000/3001/3002/3003, but they look bad when I browse to port 80 and the Mac Web Server does its "reverse proxy" because it looks like the contents of the public folder are not being found.
Anyone have ideas why this might be? It's 5:30 am. I'm pulling my hair out!

There are 3 Libraries on the computer. Go to Macintosh HD > Library > application support > iwork > Keynote > themes.

  • FILE SHARING for the PUBLIC folder

How does one use the public folder so that a client can upload file into that folder and ONLY that folder without having access to other folders?
And how will you know this is working?
What info (ip address etc) will the client need and how do you determine that info?
    thanks.

By only permitting the client to login as Guest. If the client does not have an account to log into, then by default they are only provided Guest access which limits them to the Shared folder on the server.

Adding media directly to the media folder does not make it appear in the library.  iTunes doesn't really 'look' at that folder except to go to specific files when you call upon them from a library. You have to drag new content to each user's library, that is assuming each user has their own library.

  • Using the public folder

So I connected to my friend's laptop using XP. But I don't understand the sharing system. I just made it so we could both write and read his public folder. But when it comes to actually sharing files it appears I have to literally copy and past into the folders or drop it in and lose it in it's place where it is.
I want to share some torrent files but I don't want them taking up twice as much space on my HD by having them in two places but I don't want them moved from the folders they are in. I can't seem to make alias files work, is there a way around all of this? I know there's the program sharepoints but that wasn't working

I hope I can bump this

  • ITunes, Vista nd the Public folder

New Vista PC, we have 4 IPods. We created the initial music folder under an administrative login but have multiple profiles/logins to this device.
Can i create a public iTunes folder and use that as the main folder for all the different profiles/logins?
Will that allow syncronization with multiple devices without having to be logged in under the administrative profile?

Log in with your administrative login so you can access your iTunes library. Assuming you stuck to the default options it should be in C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes.
Move this folder and all it's contents to somewhere easy to access from any account, e.g. C:\iTunes. Vista will now waste time calculating the size of the contents of this folder and perhaps ask if you really want to move it.
When it's moved, right-click on the folder, click properties and then the security tab. Make sure that each account you wish to have access to the library is granted full access to the folder and that the access can propogate to all the child objects.
Hold shift while opening iTunes and open the library from it's new location. Close iTunes. Switch profiles & repeat for each profile...
You should probably disable fast user switching so that iTunes closes when switching profiles.
    <hr>
Now that all your accounts can access the same library you'll want to know how to manage the iPods with it. Here is a link to the Apple Support Doc: How to use multiple iPods with one computer
I use method two with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's four iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.
