Moving the USR directory?

Hi All
I would like to know if it is possible to move the usr from one drive to another. Currentely it resides on our D drive and I want to move to the E drive, does anyone know what has to be changed in order for this to work?
Many Thanks for your help
Phil

Hi Phil,
did you check out the information in <a href="https://forums.sdn.sap.com/click.jspa?searchID=449785&messageID=87789">this thread</a>?
I believe the process is still not officially supported but should also work on NW04(s).
Hope this helps,
Robert

  • Moving the Users directory

Here are two tutorials explaining how to move your Users folder to a different drive in Windows 8 (very straightforward) and Windows 7 (a bit more difficult). You need two drives or one partitioned drive.
Windows 8 (I did it yesterday, it took 15 minutes, I don't see any difference in terms of performance, and I have now a system drive and a data drive) :
    http://www.itnota.com/move-users-directory-to-a-different-drive-in-windows-8/
    Windows 7 (not tested) :
    http://lifehacker.com/5467758/move-the-users-directory-in-windows-7/
Make sure you have a backup of your current installation before proceeding !
    X220t | i7 | 320GB HDD | 8GB RAM | WIN7 PRO
    IdeaCenter A520 | i5 | 1 TB HDD | 6GB RAM | WIN8.1
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    IMPORTANT UPDATE
Moving the Users directory might stop you from upgrading Windows 8 to 8.1 (the process will fail). If this happens to you, here is what to do.
Please refer to this page (same as above) and repeat steps 2 to 6 to access the command prompt. Then type
    C:\Windows\System32>C:
C:\>rmdir Users  (this will delete the junction, that is, the link to the Users directory location)
Now, you need to find out which is your Data drive (that you moved your Users directory to).The best way is to type
    C:\>dir D:
    C:\>dir E:
and so on, until you see your Users directory. Let's say this drive has the letter X.
    C:\>robocopy /copyall /mir /xj X:\Users C:\Users
Then reboot, and voilà, the Users directory is back on C: and you are now able to upgrade Windows 8 to WIndows 8.1.

  • Lync 2010 to 2013 migration - Moving the conferencing directory ?

I am in the process of finishing our migration from Lync 2010 to 2013.
Reading the technet page, I don't see any mention to migrate the Lync 2010 Conferencing Directory to 2013.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204998.aspx
But doing some quick research, I see that some blog are suggesting of doing it:
    http://www.oiboran.com/?p=1219
All my users have already been migrate to the Lync 2013 Pool.  No problem so far.
But I am still wondering if the Lync 2010 conferencing should be move or not?
    thanks
    John

    In step 7,
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688011.aspx
The following user account information does not move to the new server.
Meeting content. In order to move the content shared during a meeting, for example PowerPoint, Whiteboard, attachments or poll data, use the
-MoveConferenceData parameter as part of the Move-CsUser cmdlet.
    ====
Did you move users with the GUI or with move-csuser -MoveConferenceData?
If you moved with the GUI, the conference data noted above isn't moved.  If you think your users would care about this, you could move the directory to 2013 and forget about it.  Otherwise, you could just remove it as you decommission the 2010
pool.  It's rare that people would care about this data.

  • Moving usr directory on a JAVA system

    Hello All,
I have a Enterprise Portal 7.0 running on windows system
Unfortunately the space where usr directory is locates is very less,we have around 1 Gb left there, adding extra space will take 1-2 months,I have to perform EHP1 on enterprise portal system
So I am thinking of moving the usr directory to another drive,is it possible?
If yes any ideas how to do it
    Rohit

    Hi Rohit
Junction is an utility for creation directory symbolic links. It allows you to create a link to a folder. For example, you can create a link c:\usr to the folder d:\usr. So physically the folder usr will be stored in D:, but C: will contain a link to the folder. With the link you can perform the same file operations as you can do with the folder. So clients like J2EE server will not see any difference between the link and the folder.
    You can download Junction here:
    http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/Junction.zip
    See usage here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896768.aspx
We often use the utility in our company, because C: drive is too small to store SAP J2EE.

  • After moving shared profiles to Windows 7/32 Pro PC, I can't access them from XP box mapped to the profile share (P:\Profiles...) after editing profiles.ini to point to the network share. I can edit files in the profile directory from XP.

Previous configuration: Shared profiles located at D:\profiles\ on PC1 (XP Pro SP3). 2nd PC (PC2 also XP Pro SP3) mapped to \\PC1\Profiles via mapped drive P: and using absolute reference in profiles.ini on PC2. Remote profiles work OK on PC2.
New PC added (PC7) to eventually replace PC1 (Windows 7/32 Pro). Profiles moved to D:\Profiles on that box. Firefox and Thunderbird work fine on PC7 with the local profiles. Profiles.ini edited on PC1 to point to the network share and will not access the remote profiles. Access permissions are set to full for everyone. I can write and edit to files in the profile directories from PC1.
I tried adding a profile with the profile manager and tried to force it to use the network share, but it still located the new profile down in the default directory ...\application data\Mozilla\Firefox\

Well, try this (I was able to fix my with these steps):
    Go Utilities > Disk Utility
Select your Startup Disk, e.g. Macintosh HD
Then, under the First Aid Tab, click Verify Disk Permissions.
If there are errors, then click repair Disk Permissions.
After it is done, restart the computer and see if your problem is resolved.
    I hope this help.

  • Acroread 9.1.0 reads the full directory tree /usr/share/fonts

    Hi,
I was wondering why the startup time of acroread is that high on my system (Debian 5.0). I have found out using strace that acroread reads the full content of the /usr/share/fonts/ directory tree (more than 4000 files) during startup in a quite inefficient way.
First question: why does it read /usr/share/fonts during startup at all and is there a way to disable that behaviour?
Second question follows: the ext3 requires that an application reading the full content of a directory should sort the file list numerically by inode number before opening the files. It is explained in http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=417 why the application should be fixed and not the kernel. Can acroread be changed to qsort() the file list between the calls of readdir() and open()?
    Cheers,
    Torsten

    Hello Torsten,
Thanks for reporting the issue. Could you please let us know if you are opening acroread with a file(either by double clicking on it or giving it as a parameter to acroread). If yes, could you please see if launch time is still high when you do not open a file(launch acroread by clicking on the Desktop icon or launch it from console). Also, it would be helpful if you can mail the strace output to sanika at adobe dot com.
As for reading the location, it is one of the standard font locations mentioned in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf. If you do not want acroread to use these fonts, you can set ACRO_DISABLE_FONT_CONFIG to 1 on console.
If you do not want to set this variable every time you launch reader, you can search for "ACRO_DISABLE_FONT_CONFIG" in the launch script, uncomment the relevant section and save the script.
However, I should warn you that Reader would not be able to use these fonts to display PDFs(substitute fonts would be used instead).
    Sincerely,
    Sanika

I need help moving my Photoshop 7 from my old laptop to my new laptop which is running Windows 7 Enterprise. I’ve tried two routes unsuccessfully. I install the CD, it does not autoplay. I execute Autoplay.exe at the root directory, I am welcomed, I choose English, I accept the EULA, I get the Install/Explore choices window, with the Install button already selected, I click the Photoshop button, the CD spins, and nothing happens.  In the 2nd attempt I execute Setup.exe in the Photoshop directory, and nothing happens at all.  I’m never even offered the opportunity to enter my product code. What should I do?

There could is likely a compatibility problem between the old software and the newer operating system.

  • ITunes moving files outside of the "music" directory.

I can't understand why, but whenever I open up iTunes it moves files outside of the "music" directory and into the "iTunes Media" directory.
The files it decides to move are random and it does not matter if I try to play or edit any of them, it happens as soon as iTunes is opened.
Any idea why this occurs and how I can prevent it?

I don't think you guys are understanding what I am asking.
Since iTunes 9 was released I have had my media "reorganized" and consolidated according to the "organize library" option in iTunes. My music library looked like this:
    ../iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/<artist name>/<album name>/<track>
What has been happening recently when I launch iTunes is that it starts moving my music to this structure:
    ../iTunes/iTunes Media/<artist name>/<album name>/<track>
iTunes is moving files automatically outside of my "music" folder into the root "iTunes Media" folder even though I have asked it to keep my folder organized / consolidated and have run "organize library" several times.

  • HT1364 I followed this tutorial and iTunes moved my music to the specified directory on another drive, but now it doesn't show up in library. Files are all there.

I'm using Vista 32 bit and itunes 9. Don't want to upgrade to latest version.
I made the transfer with the help of itunes, but now the music while in the new directory itunes doesn't recognise it.
    Any guesses?
    Thanks

    Solved my own problem.
Actually, I just selected all and dragged into Itunes. Didn't work at first, butsince then has worked great. I have transferred approx 58Gb. of music. I also searched through 5 other HDD's and have just put all of my music on all itunes.
I then purchased the software "tuneup media". It is currently de-dupe'ing and fixing all the mis-labeled songs.
This is the problem with newsgroups. People name stuff whatever they want. Hope this helped you.

  • How can I use the /home directory

I'm doing development work on my Mac (running Snow Leopard). The output location for the production server I use is under "/home/subdir". I'd like to develop my files on the Mac so they reside in the same relative location, but from the default install this is not possible.
The /home directory is hidden by default. If I view hidden files, it looks like a mounted hard drive, but with no space. If I try to do something in the /home directory, I get "Operation not supported". For example, from the command line "sudo mkdir /home/test" returns "mkdir: /home/test: Operation not supported".
(Originally, when I was useing Leopard, I moved the installed /home to /home_old and created my own /home directory, but the install to Snow Leopard reverted it back to the locked out /home dir. The other one was preserved, but it makes me nervous enough that I don't want to try it again without some reassurance.)
So, the question: Is there a safe way to use /home on a Mac running Snow Leopard?

Found the answer in another forum post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2073807&tstart=0
To get the /home directory back. Edit /etc/auto_master and remove or comment out the line that starts with "/home". Then reboot.

  • Moving the log file of a publisher database SQL Server 2008

There are many threads on this here. Most of them not at all helpful and some of them wrong. Thus a fresh post.
This post regards SQL Server 2008 (10.0.5841)
The PUBLISHER database primary log file which is currently of 3 blocks and not extendable,
must be moved as the LUN is going away.
The database has several TB of data and a large number of push transactional replications as well as a couple of bi-directional replications.
While the primary log file is active, it is almost never (if ever) used due to its small fixed size.
We are in the 20,000 TPS range at peak (according to perfmon). This is a non-trivial installation.
    This means that
backup/restore is not even a remotely viable option (it never is in the real world)
downtime minimization is critical - measured in minutes or less.
dismantling and recreating the replications is doable, but I have to say, I have zero trust in the script writer to generate accurate scripts. Many of these replications were originally set up in older versions of SQL Server and have come along for the
ride as upgrades have occurred. I consider scripting everything and dismantling the whole lot pretty high risk. In any case, I do not want to have to reinitialize any replications as this takes, effectively, an eternity.
    Possible solution:
The only option I can think of is to wind down everything, such that there are zero outstanding uncommitted transactions and detach the database, delete the offending log file and reattach using the CREATE DATABASE xyz ATTACH_REBUILD_LOG option.
This should, if I have understood things correctly, cause SQL Server to recreate the default log file in the same directory as the .mdf file. I am not sure what will happen to the secondary log file which is not moving anywhere at this point.
The hard bit is insuring that every transaction in the active log files have been replicated before shutdown. This is probably doable. I do not know how to manually flush any left over transactions to replication. I expect if I shut down all "real"
activity and wait for a certain amount of time, eventually all the replications will show "No replicated transactions are available" and then I would be good to go.
Hillary, if you happen to be there, comments appreciated.

    Hi Philip
you should try this long back suggested way of stopping replication and restore db and rename or detach attach

I do not wish to be rude, but which part of the OP didn't you understand?
Specifically the bit about 20,000 transactions a second and database size of several TB. Do you have any concept whatsoever of what this means? I will answer for you, "no, you are clueless" as your answer clearly shows.
Stop wasting bandwidth by proposing pointless and wrong solutions which indicate that you did not read the OP, or do you just do this to generate points?
Also, you clearly failed to notice that I was on the thread to which you referred, and I had some pointed comments to make. This thread was an attempt to garner some input for an alternative proposal.

  • [SOLVED] Files in the /tmp directory are being deleted

    Hi,
I've been using Arch Linux for four weeks, but have now come across a problem which I can't fix after trying to search for a solution (and also checking to see if anyone also had the same problem). I would appreciate any help you can give.
A few days ago the web browsers I use (chromium and opera) lost their profile settings, and I had to set the profiles. This kept happening and the indicator of the problem was that I use profile-sync-daemon for both web browsers, which uses the /tmp directory. I then started noticing that a file I created in /tmp disappeared which pointed me to the fact that something was cleaning up the /tmp directory (this seems to happen hourly).
A quick search led me to systemd-tmpfiles and the /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf file. I have not modified the file, and if I have read it correctly only files in the /tmp directory that are more than 10 days old are deleted. I boot every day, so no files should be deleted by systemd-tmpfiles (unless I've misunderstood tmpfiles.d).
Here is the tmp.conf file anyway:
    $ cat /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf
    # This file is part of systemd.
    # systemd is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it

I think I have found the problem.
There was a gnome update earlier in the week. gnome-settings-daemon runs an hourly housekeeping job. I had set the "Automatically Purge Temporary Files" in the Privacy tab when setting up my laptop last month.
gnome-settings-daemon has decided to delete files in the /tmp directory (I can trigger this by clicking "Purge Temporary files" which then deletes my files in the /tmp directory). This does not happen in the previous gnome-settings-daemon. Anyway, I'll mark the thread SOLVED if my file in the /tmp directory survives the hour!
