Moving to an area without Comcast service, wondering if i have to pay an ETF or not

Due to matters out of my control (divorce) i'm moving to a new place next month.  The only service available there is Centurylink DSL and Wildblue/Hughesnet satellite.
What steps do I have to go through to avoid an ETF?  I would gladly transfer my service to the new address if Comcast offered it there but I don't think I should have to pay an ETF if they don't.
I know this question has been asked but it seems like there's a different answer in every thread I look at.

My escalation response was the same exact thing that I was told on the phone, and that the fee would not be waived. That's fine, I'm sure the legalese all checks out, and even if it doesn't, I'm sure it will remain unchallenged and unaddressed . I just want Verizon to be aware that it is a terrible business practice as I will be shedding any and all additional Verizon services I subscribe to as well. This includes 3 lines of cell phone service with a monthly bill that is almost triple what I pay for FiOS right now. Additionally, if I move back to an area with FiOS I will make a point to choose whatever competitior is available over them, and I will be sure to let all of my friends, family and acquaintances know why I am doing that.
It is no secret that it is common practice for localized telecom services that are bound by contract to have any early termination fees waived in the event that the customer moves to an area where that service is unavailable. It seems rather predatory to be the only company that does not do this, and furthermore, though this was not the case with me as I was not sold FiOS by a sales rep, from other posts on this forum it seems to me that Verizon likes to tell people that it will waive this fee if they move to entice them into contracts and then charge them anyway when they do move. I will be sure to do my part to make sure everyone I know does not sign any contracts with Verizon for these services, because Verizon seems to be under the impression that they should be involved in their customers decisions on where they should live.

  • I upgraded to Lion on my Mac Mini and I'm wondering if I have to pay 29.99 again to upgrade to Lion on my Mac book pro?

    I upgraded to Lion on my Mac mini and I'm wondering if I have to pay 29.99 to upgrade it on my Macbook pro also. Or since both computers are registered under the same account, is there a way to share the program?

    You can download it from the mac app store again on the other computer free of charge. Just go to purchases in the mac app store on the other computer and log in with the same account you used to purchase lion. Then you should see lion listed as a purchase along with a gray box that says INSTALL.

  • I just synced my my ipad and my daughters contacts from her iphone are in my ipad and our contactcts have merged and most of the notes i had under my contacts are missing. have they been deleted or can they be retrieved somehow?

    where to i look on my computer when im checking to see what i have just backed up? Itunes? Does my computer display what is on my ipad?

    Thanks, but I checked iCloud and it has none of them.
    If it backed up to my laptop, that died and I just got the new computer. The one that's crashed won't even boot, so there's no way to even tell if it was syncing the contacts along with all the phone photos. Literally happened at the same time - it was because I had the new computer that I was finally able to pull the photos off the phone and make room for the upgrade. It had refused to upgrade for lack of space for some time.
    I had thought it was set to sync to iCloud but it vanished from BOTH my phone and the cloud. That's why I'm so angry about it.

    hi guys,
    I want to know if I can still use the Blackberry on its own without the  Blackberry service such as email, Internet etc? And also can I still use the texts and calling on a Blackberry without the service?

    In addition to what bewaarse said, you will not be able to use MMS either (they require data).

  • Could not get access to download area on SAP Service Marketplace

    Hi All,
    When trying to download the SAP Mobile Execution for Motorola software in the download center in the Application and User Management work center, I get the following error message:
    "Could not get access to download area on SAP Service Marketplace."
    I have also search for this software in the Service Marketplace, but to no avail.
    I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of where I can download this software, or ideally the cause and solution to this error message.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
    Issue might be due to incorrect data in the system i.e., license codes assigned to your contract may be invalid or expired or Contract/ order is blocked due to payment issues.
    These information has to be checked in detail.
    Please report a incident.
    Thanks

  • I'm moving to an area comcast doesn't service but I would like to keep my email

    In setting up an account with Cox, I was informed that Comcast is the only ISP that does not work with clients in forwarding their emails(have had comcast for 20 years). Why is that so. Why not offer an hosted or Cloud based at least for a minimal fee. I think there should be something that Comcast should do to loyal customer for such a long time.

    As with most ISPs, the email with Comcast is proprietary.  When you cancel their service you lose access to your email with them.  What you need to do is set up the Comcast account in an email client like Outook or Thunderbird, and then you will have the contents of your Inbox on your computer.  But you need to do that BEFORE you cancel service.  That or start forwarding important emails to a free-standing account like Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook.com so that you will have them no matter who your ISP is.

  • HT4914 If I use I tunes match and have all my music on the cloud, will I be able to listen to it, meaning will it be on my device when I am without a cell or wifi signal....like on a plane or in an area without service?

    If I choose to use I tunes match, and store my music on the cloud, will I be able to access it when I don't have a cell signal or wifi?  For example, when I'm on a plane or in an area without a cell signal or wifi.  And, if its just cellular coverage, will it count as "data" against my limit?

    Yes, it would count against your data.  The transfer part is part of your cellular coverage, whether it be from Apple's iCloud or a totally unrelated feed.
    iTunes match - http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ - see FAQ at end too
    "Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?
    On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you don’t have a network connection. Apple TV only streams songs."
    So, from the above, if you are sitting in an airplane and suddenly decide you want to listen to a song that has not downloaded to your device then you will have to wait until you can use your service again (or pay the airline to use their wireless).

  • Comcast Services are not working in Sunnyvale today (7/28)

    We are experiencing Xfinity service outage now. Does anybody else in Sunnyvale, CA is experiencing any connection issues? Mathew

    Check on the Xfinity my account app for your mobile device or at xfinity.net.  If you don't call, that would be the place to see outages for your specifically.

  • The time-wasting/money-sucking mess that is Comcast service at new house

    Add me to the ranks of the unhappy comcast customers. I moved into a new house a month ago. I got Xfinity Home, Internet, and TV installed. The internet and TV did not work reliably - in fact they reliably did not work for most of that time, so I spent most of my free time calling, troubleshooting, having comcast people out to my  house multiple times.  After about 3 weeks of that I think my internet and tv are working more reliably. Now I have the time to turn my attention to XFinity Home Security, WHICH HAS NOT WORKED FOR ONE DAY.  I wont' go into all of the many ways it's not reliable, but it's not reliable.  and in fact I've never been able to actually set the alarm on my house.  I don't even know what's wrong with it AND I'VE SPENT ALL MY FREE TIME GETTING COMCAST TO FIX INTERNET AND TV AND DON'T HAVE ANY MORE TIME TO TROUBLESHOOT HOME SECURITY. here's the kicker: I spent all afternoon calling comcast, the first two people I got were helpful, or trying to be helpful - my main question is why I owe over $700 to comcast for one month of service.  Apparently $500+ of that is installation of the HOME SECURITY SYSTEM THAT DOESN'T WORK.  Also: I don't have that broken out anywhere I can see it. Anyway, the first two calls: the first one 20-30 minutes, the second one about 20-30 minutes I was put on hold while the person tried to figure it out and both times I was disconnected and they never called me back! the third time I got a guy saying I'm "way past my 30 day deadline" (I'm 5 days past it, thanks for exaggerating) when I got so fed up with why I have to pay so much money for somethign that has never worked adn I want it to go away.  He said if I want to cancel home security now it will cost another $660 to break the contract.  Break the contract?  I'm still waiting for Comcast to actually provide the service they contracted for.  How am I breaking my contract?  Not comcast? so...it will cost me over $1,100 to install and then remove and "break my contract" for a home security system that has never worked. and also: i get to go into comcast "customer service" land to try to do any of this.  Which means I will get disconnected and waste a bunch more time again. And since the comcast guys that installed my servie to my home actually cut the AT&T phone wires, i now can't just cancel comcast and get AT&T without another headache on my hands because comcast cut the AT&T cables that go into my house!!! all this, and I owe $738 that is due in 4 days!  I think the only thing Comcast worries about are accounts payable.  I don't think I've ever wasted this much time for nothing and been this angry and dissapointed with a service provider. there...all that venting and I'm still in the same place, which is nowhere.  Now that I think about it, the fact that comcast cut the telephone cables going into my house really takes the cake for me.

    Typically the phone line is just disconnected in the phone compay's box on the outside of your house (it's called the NID). In some cases the tech may not be able to access the NID so they may physically cut the phone company's feed. It's a technical requirement because landlines carry voltage which interferes with the operation of VOIP phone systems. You would need to do the same thing with Vonage or other whole house VOIP systems.
    Edit: I see someone already escalated your issue to corporate, so you should be hearing from someone at Comcast soon.

  • Follow Up To Verizon Leaves Me Without Phone Service

    My intial thread seems to be closed. The problem was moved up the chain and in the end here is what I learned. I no longer have a dial tone because my area was upgraded to Fios, this was the info I got during my call to Verizon. So my phone service was shut off without warning. I asked to have my service cancelled so I am no longer charged and the call was then transferred to India where I couldn't understand the person, probably because I have to now use a cell phone. So I am still being charged by Verizon for a service they disconnected. I can't believe this is legal so I filed a complaint with the Attorney General in my state.

  • Playing a ts-file in an application  (JMF,without Tuning/service selection)

    Hey there!
    I got a ts-File (1.438.1) on HDD and i am trying to play it using a jmf-player in my application. I know that MHP does not support playing video from HDD but the IRT RI (which i use) does..
    For a ts is also just a *.mpg-file i thought my solution would work..
    Anyway, my stream is found but i get a org.davic.net.tuning.NotTunedException.
    Here's a piece of my code:
    public void playVideo() {
    targetVideo = new MediaLocator(dvb://1.438.1);
    player = javax.media.Manager.createPlayer(targetVideo);
    player.addControllerListener(this);
    scalingControl = (org.dvb.media.BackgroundVideoPresentationControl) player.getControl("org.dvb.media.BackgroundVideoPresentationControl");
    player.start();
    transformation = new VideoTransformation();
    transformation.setScalingFactors((float)0.5, (float)0.5);
    transformation.setVideoPosition(new HScreenPoint((float)0.5, (float)0.0));
    transformation = scalingControl.getClosestMatch(transformation);
    result = scalingControl.setVideoTransformation(transformation);
    player.stop();
    player.deallocate();
    catch (Exception e){
    System.out.println("Exception thrown while using the JMF Player:");
    e.printStackTrace();
    I was wondering if there is way to get this run without using the service selection API or Tuning API?
    Hopefully someone has an idea or is able to explain me why this won't work!!!
    Thanks in advance,
    with best regards,
    Alex.

    Hello Steve!
    First of all, thank you for trying to help me out!
    I tried the code i posted above (using BackgroundVideoPresentationControl and a quarter sized video area in the upper right corner).
    The NullPointer is thrown at the following line:
    transformation = scalingControl.getClosestMatch(transformation);
    I also tried other positions and video sizes but nothing worked at all..
    For at least quarter size video should be supported i am not quite sure where the problem is..
    As i said i also tried AWTVideoSizeControl with something like:
    source = new Rect(0,0,320,288);
    dest = new Rect(source.getBounds());
    videoSize = new AWTVideoSize(source,destination);
    When i do something like:
    transformation.setVideoSize(videoSize);
    i get a NullPointer too!
    Do you have any ideas what my problems might be?
    Thanks in advance,
    with best regards,
    Alex.
    P.S.:
    My *.ts-File was captured with a DVB-Card and contains 6 Services (that only contain TV-programs). For i am not able to test it by now (because i don't see any video ;-( ) i have another question (Because i am a little bit confused concerning service selection):
    Is it possible to play the different services of my ts-File (that's on my HDD) with the JMF , or do i 0have to use the service selection API for adressing the different streams (or services)? I guess this is not necessary for i can just set a parameter in the
    line:
    targetVideo = new MediaLocator(dvb://1.438.3);
    that describes the service (3 in that case). Am i right or am i really really confused and a hopeless case??
    Thanks again,
    with very best regards,
    Alex.

  • Moving to an area with marginal Verizon coverage.

    Moving to an area in Florida (Manatee Co.) with poor signal for cell phone and MiFi.  Is there a way to boost my incoming signal, out going signal or both without abandoning my Verizon carrier?  If you care to email me directly with any ideas I would appreciate it.  The local outlets/stores do not have a clue about how to answer my question.
    Thank you,

    You must be moving to east of I-75 in Manatee County because the signal near Bradenton should be pretty good. I would suggest a network extender but it seems you'll be using Verizon as your internet connection so that wouldn't do any good.
