Moving to Canada

Hello,
Moving to Canada. Has anyone gotten the US and Canada plan? Is there data coverage in Alberta? I was sad to hear this plan is only for people who visit Canada and 50% of the calls need to be made from the US ---- has anyone got a solution or am I pretty much forced to get a canadian cell?

don't do it, if you only need one cell phone...
Canada data plans suck and their phone plans are terrible and expensive.
I am an american living in Alberta and keep your verizon phone if you can.
I got 3 Telus cell phones when I got up here, two with unlimited data plans and my bill was $270 per month for the first year.  I dropped everything after the first year and have 3 barebones cell phones with no data, no voicemail, minimal minutes, and I still pay $110 per month.

why do i have to create a new itunes account because I moved to Canada from the U.S.?( My current account won't let me change my address to canada so my billing address for account is incorrect, making it impossible for me to buy anything). Will it affect what I am able to put on my device i.e. already downloaded apps, music, etc?

    This is not possible...

    Change here:
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
You must have a verified billing address & be located in the country whose store you are trying to use.

  • Moving to Canada-- any hope of unlocking officially?

My son's just moved to Canada. He has an iPhone which was on our family plan. We had called and talked to AT&T service about what to do, and they told me that I could cancel his contract early for $100 because he was leaving the country. My son tried out their international plan for Canada for a month, but it is outrageously expensive compared to plans within Canada, so he wants to switch to a Canadian plan. So I called AT&T to cancel the service today and found out that although they will cancel his service, they still won't unlock the phone. Any suggestions, other than unlocking illegally? I assume that was in the very fine print when he signed up for the phone.

I guess that's what we'll have to do. I could take it myself but then I'd be upgrading to an iPhone contract, and I'm not thrilled with giving AT&T more money at this point.
For some reason I thought you had one already. As said, you don't need to change anything about your contract when you acquire an iPhone by other means than giving AT&T more money. Just put your AT&T SIM-card in and you're essentially set. I'd highly recommend either having a data plan or waiting until monday for iOS 4.0 to do that though (as it allows you to turn off cellular data entirely.)
I suppose we have learned our lesson with AT&T. I'm not sure what my son is planning to do at this point.
Well the lesson to be learned is about locked products. Especially if the provider refuses under any circumstance to unlock them. (Where I live, carriers are required to unlock phones; they can charge to do so within a year of buying it but after that it must be free). Unfortunately for Americans, AT&T is the only large operator that uses standard UMTS frequencies. T-Mobile has UMTS but it uses a frequency (1700MHz) that no one else in the world uses. So unless you manage to procure a multiband phone from T-Mobile you won't be 3G'ing anywhere else in the world, and vice versa if you get a standard phone it won't do 3G with T-Mobile. (Luckily their GSM is standard so you can always use it to, you know, call people.) So essentially if you want compatibility with the rest of the world, you're stuck with AT&T. A Sprint or Verizon phone won't work at all in Europe, for instance.

  • How do you change your account to reflect moving from Canada to the United States?

    Hi there!  Merry Christmas!
Just wondering how you can update and iTunes account with new credit card information from an American bank when my account doesn't allow me to change my country to the United States.  I moved from Canada and have an outstanding bill that I can't pay iTunes with b/c my credit card there has been closed.
    Any suggestions?

Because of copyright restrictions by publishers, it is not possible to change your account from one country to another. Your best chance is contacting iTunes Store customer support.

  • I'm moving to Canada, what happens to my iTunes account?

I'm moving to Canada from the UK, what happens to my iTunes account, can I convert it to a Canadian one and keep the same username and password and also keep all the content I currently have on my iPhone/iPad?

I really don't know what this means.
What do you mean "when I try to change the email on my itunes"?
Where on itunes are you changing an e-mail?  and for what reason?
Not sure at all what you are trying to do an it seems that you are confusing e-mail, itunes accoutns and libraries.
Please explain exactly what you are trying to accomplish.
You have music on your computer?  You want that music on your iphone?

A gentle reminder.   Unless you will be permanently resident in Canada and have a Canadian based banking/credit card arrangement you may not be able to buy from the Mac App store or iTunes.

  • HT5661 How can I unlock my iphone from Iusacel (Mexico) I moved to Canada and the Iusacel company told me they cannot do it. Can you tell me how? I want to keep using my iphone.

How can I unlock my iphone from Iusacel (Mexico) I moved to Canada and the Iusacel company told me they cannot do it. Can you tell me how? I want to keep using my iphone.

The normal process is to request the unlock with the carrier.  They process it and pass it on to Apple to be applied to the Apple's iPhone database.  The carrier would then inform you when Apple has provisioned the unlock, and you would restore your iPhone as a new device in iTunes to apply the unlock (you would get a message at the end of that restore as new in iTunes indicating the unlock was successfully applied).  You could then restore your iPhone from backup to get everything back as it was.
However, for some carriers, you seem to beed to complete the iTunes restore from within the country where they provide service.  Regardless, have you tried restoring as new in iTunes to see if it processes any provisioned unlock request?  Just be sure to backup the iPhone first, before restoring as new.

  • I moved from Canada to Australia and don't want to blow my iMac up

So I moved from Canada to Australia and dont want to blow the thing up when I turn it on. I'm wondering if I need to get a whole new power cord (different voltages etc) or i can just use an adapter? I'm not really keen on using an adapter though..
    It's a 2011 iMac 27"
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!
    Katie

2011 iMacs are suitable for power of 100V to 140V, 50hz to 60hz power. So you won't fry the system. You can either use a wall adapter for your plug or buy a new Australia-specific power cord from a local Apple dealer (find one at http://www.apple.com/au/retail) or an Apple Authorized Service Provider at http://www.apple.com/au/service/.  Or try Apple Australia Online at 133 622

  • Moving to Canada taking my Pro with me

    Hi,
If I buy a superdrive in Canada, will my pro then play both 1 and 2 region DVD's (ie region 2 in the machine and region 1 on the superdrive?)

I am curious if anyone has taken their iPhone (3G, v3.0) to Europe and had a new number installed on it.
The phone is carrier locked to ATT, so you cannot use it with another wireless provider. You'll have to buy a new phone in the country you're moving to.

  • I'm moving to Canada for the United States for 3 months.

I'm moving but I want to bring my own phone with me. Is there anything I can get so I can still have 3G up there? I'd like to be able to use maps if I needed too. I have sprint.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • I bought an Iphone in New York but i'm moving in Canada. Will I be able to tranfer it to a canadian company?

do I have to jailbreak it or something like that?

    Vinnylopoto wrote:

If you bought it as unlocked directly from Apple you can use it with any carrier in Canada. If you did not buy it unlocked (it will say so on the receipt) there is no legitimate way to unlock it for use outside of the USA, except under roaming agreements with the US carrier.

  • I'm moving from Canada to the US with an iPhone 4S

So, I'm going to need to pay out my contract with Fido and am going to need to find a company in the states. My question is can I keep my iPhone 4S and get a new chip with an American company? I'm not entirely sure how this works but I assume you have the chip for a reason -that your phone is transferrable.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Any idea what the cost is?
Can I go to the Apple store or would I have to go directly to a phone company?
    Thanks in advance!

Apple is not a wireless carrier or reseller.
They only deal with people buying/upgrading devices.
If you want service, go to a carrier.

  • Moved from Canada to Italy

Although I paid Rogers to unlock my iPhone, when I arrived in Italy, I discovered that it was still tethered to Rogers' system even after the SIM card was removed and replaced with one from a local service provider (Wind).
    I have an iPhone 4.
Is there something that can be done about this or am I going to have to replace my phone?

Thank you so much, or as the Italians say, mille gratie!
I was finally able to get it to work.
