Moving to Europe

I am moving to Italy soon and want to be able to use my iPhone. Is there any way to do this using a local Italian carrier?

Paul is correct. iPhones sold in the US are carrier-locked to AT&T, and cannot be used with other carriers' SIM cards.
Sell your iPhone here, and buy one in Italy.
Note that in Italy, iPhones are not locked to the carrier (local laws differ!), and thus the phone you purchase there can be used with an AT&T or T-mobile SIM card here in the US. But, also keep in mind that warranty service on iPhones is provided only in the country of purchase.

  • I am moving to Europe - can I bring my Verizon iphone 5 or should I buy a new one there?

    Hello,
I am moving to Europe, specificaly France, soon and would like to know if I should bring my Verizon iphone 5, or just buy a new one there, since I will have to start a new contract with a European phone company while I am there. I haven't bought my new iphone 5 yet (because I am waiting for this answer) but my mother is alligble for an upgrade with her Verizon account and can get a brand new Verizon iphone 5 for a great deal. She was going to give it to me, but I am leaving for France in 3 months where I will be living there for at least a year. I was going to just purchase a new iphone 5 with one of the European phone companies (like Orange or Vodaphone, ect.) since I will be getting a good deal on them too (when signing up for a new contract), but if the Verizon iphone will work exactly the same over in Europe, I would rather get it now. Either way, I will be spending about the same amount of money. Will I be restricted somehow using a US iphone 5 in Europe, or are the US iphone 5's any different from the iphone 5's in Europe (or tide to European phone companies? Do they offer an insurance plan? (I'm not sure if this even exists in the US. I will be a new iphone user!) I'm just curious what which iphone will be more efficitant to use, since I will be spending most of my time in Europe.
    I appreciate you answer!!

Click on the links on the right for some good information. The only concern is that a phone purchased in the States will only be seviced for any repairs in the States. You will not have any warranty coverage in France.

  • TS3297 How do I update my billing address.  Have moved to Europe and there are no country options.

Have moved to Europe, how do I update my billing address in I-tunes to reflect new EU address?

There is no "europe" or "EU" iTunes Store. You'll need to first make sure that you're connected to the iTunes Store of the country you now live in. For iTunes on a computer, go to the iTunes Store page and see if the flag icon correctly reflects your country, If not, click the icon and select the correct country. Then see this support article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918
Note that if you are using a credit card, that credit card must have been issued by a bank in your new country. You cannot use a credit card issued in another country even if the billing address is changed to your new country.

  • Moving to Europe - how can I keep my iPhone?

I don't want to unlock my phone and risk software update issues but I'm moving from US to Europe (will be traveling across various countries) and would like to keep my US iPhone if possible. Does Apple help with this at all or do I have to throw it away and start again??

You need to confirm this with Apple but the iPhone is sold in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T only so I don't believe it can be activated with Apple's carriers for the iPhone in Europe - O2 in the UK, T-Mobile in Germany or Orange in France or with any other GSM network provider without being unlocked via a method not supported by Apple.
But you don't have to throw it away. You can sell it to someone in the U.S. before leaving.

  • Moving to Europe...will Thunderbolt Display work?

Hi. I'm moving to Finland this summer and would like to take along my new-ish thunderbolt display. I have a power converter to go from 110v to 230v, but i was wondering if the 50hz vs. 60hz would cause a problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

    The display specs say:
    Input voltage: 100-240V AC; 50-60Hz
    So I would say, yes.

  • Can't transfer registration or buy subscription (after moving within Europe)

Hi all, hoping for some help.
I moved from Ireland to France.
My Account and store purchases are still registered as Ireland and cannot be changed online.
I contacted Adove Livechat and was told they can't help that it would have to be escalated and someone should be in contact withn me via email.
Problem is I want to take advantage of the Photoshop+Lightroom subscription deal straight away but I can't do it until my account and registered products are shown as France so I can pay with my French credit card, VAT details etc.
Fingers crossed someone can help or someone from Adobe Store has the answer.

    Hi Cormac
Unfortunately we cannot change the country associated with an Adobe ID.  Do you have another email address you could use to create a new ID with France as the country?  We could then transfer your product registrations to the new ID & you can then sign up for the Photoshop Photography Program.
    Kind regards
    Bev

  • Moving to Europe - how will this affect songs/ movies purchases on iTunes

Forgive the dumb question. I'm moving from the States to the Netherlands. I have quite a number of songs and movies I purchased on the iTunes US store. To be able to access them when I move to the NL, would I need to keep US as my default store, etc?

Note of course that unless you maintain a US residence and a US-based (and billed) credit card, you will no longer be able to purchase from the US iTunes Store. If you get a new Netherlands-based credit card, you'll have to convert your existing account or open a new one in the Netherlands iTunes Store (the latter may be easier). But as PT says, you should still be able to play the items you've already purchased.

  • Moving to Europe - Region problems?

We're very likely to move to Europe next year. We'll have to use the Dutch iTunes store which apart from being very empty compared to the US store also makes me wonder how we deal with music and movies we bought in the US store... can we continue to use these when we switch over or will we be faced with the same problems as with region locked DVDs? Any ideas?
Just one example of this might be... our iPad/iPhone with apps purchased on the US store that do not exist in the Dutch store. If we transfer to the Dutch store and then sync will we loose everything and have to start again? How can we retain the purchased apps/games/videos etc.
Grateful for any words of wisdom before we do anything.

You will need to keep you US account.
You can switch in iTunes between different countries and have all the music in on big library.
It's just challenging if you have Apps from the US store, you will always need to login to with the old US account to update the Apps.

  • I moved to Europe and now my iPod nano isn't recognized by French version of iTunes

    I have a laptop with Window 7.
Since in France, in order to buy music on iTunes I had to download its French version, letting me keep the music already there. But now I don't seem to be able to synchronize and/or update my iPods (I have one first generation and one touch 6 th generation).
I must say that, before I left the U.S., I downloaded music on the iPods from another computer - my main desk computer (and account with iTunes). So, would it be a problem because the libraries are different in each computer or because the account is now in a different country?
I am lost... Some help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks.

Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • Bought a MacPro in the US, moving to Europe

Two part question. Can I buy some kind of voltage converter? Is that the only thing I have to buy besides the plug adapter as well? I will be residing in Sweden & their voltage is 220-240, ours in the US is 110-120. I have a MacPro & a 30" Apple display (which I will be selling & buying the 27" Apple display instead).
& also if buying the 27" would I have to add something to my MacPro like a different graphics card or do some kind of upgrade? (I bought my MacPro back when the 30" display first came out). Thank you

Aha! Sooo that means I can still keep the original power cord (which I have a hard time finding in both the US online store & Swedish online store, weird) & just use an adapter to convert to the two circular plug from the American three-prong right?
Is there some kind of switch before I plug it in?
    Aww. Thank you so much!!

  • I have an unlocked iPhone 5 purchased from Europe and would like to use it on AT

    Hello-
I purchased an iPhone 5 in Denmark where I live.  It works fine here and when roaming.  I travel to the US every month and therefore have a post-paid full AT&T account.   In fact it is a shared data plan and I spend about $700 per month just from AT&T.  I have had an AT&T account for years but recently moved to Europe.
I can put my AT&T sim in my iPhone 5 without issue, and the basic GSM features work.  In fact, the phone recognizes 4G.  That said, the phone does not support mobile hotspot, FaceTime over cellular, no LTE,  or visual voicemail.
I first went to the AT&T store, and they said no problem.  They swapped my AT&T SIM card, and added features to my account.  However, after several hours still no joy with the advanced features.
When I called AT&T, and explained my issue, they escalated the call to tier 2 tech support.  They escalated it again and said it is an IMEI problem.  Basically, AT&T does not recognize the IMEI of my phone,   They view my iPhone 5 as a generic GSM phone.  I asked them to just "force it" and put it in their database, but they said AT&T was not allowed to do this.  Evidently, Apple does not allow AT&T to classify IMEI numbers.  Their system needs to know that the device is an iPhone 5, and that the only way they can do that is via the IMEI.
So question, how do I get AT&T to recognize my iPhone 5?  I don't want to carry two phones, and just want to be able to swap my SIM card when I travel.
I know that LTE will not work because AT&T uses 700 MHz for their LTE and my phone supports international LTE specs.
    Thoughts?

It sounds as if AT&T has already told you they can't do what you want. It doensn't sould like anything that's fixable on your end.

  • Would Toshiba SBX4250 Sound Bar work in Europe?

I am moving to Europe pretty soon. Just wondering if SBX4250 sound bar would work there (220v / 50Hz) without a transformer.

Is this a new hard drive or a used hard drive with someone else's operating system on it (from an iBook G4, perhaps)?
You likely need to use an OS Install disc or the Restore CD's that originally came with the iBook to Erase and Install and/or Restore the OS and applications to make it compatible with your G3 iBook. When erasing, choose to format the hard drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    Good luck.

  • When will iphone be availble in europe

who knows when is the i phone gona be out in europe and at what price, tnx

    Debbie,
It depends on how permanent the move is. If it is just for a few months, you might want to call AT&T and get a good International Voice and Data Roaming plan. It may be a bit expensive, but it will save you from accidentally racking up thousands of dollars in data and telephone usage.
If you are permanently moving to Europe, then it would seem to me that you'd need to get a new iPhone in Europe (in either the UK or Germany as it is now). There are two reasons for this: (1) You cannot use your AT&T iPhone in Europe for months at a time. If you are an AT&T customer and roam for what AT&T deems an excessive amount of time, they have the right to disconnect your account. And they will. (2) Recently, it was revealed that the American iPhone has passed FCC inspection but not EU inspection. This means that because the AT&T iPhone is only certified to work in America, anyone caught using an American iPhone in Europe can run the risk of having their phone confiscated by law enforcement. It is a very slight risk, but a risk nonetheless.
In any event, if this move is going to be permanent or even semi-permanent (>6 months or so), you may have to forego your iPhone and get a replacement unit in Europe with a European service provider.
If I'm wrong about any of this, please someone more knowledgeable chime in. Hope this helps!

  • Can I use my USA-purchased HP 6800 Series printer in Europe?

I'm moving to Europe and have several computers and printers that I want to take with me.  I know I can use my PC's, but I want to take my printers, too.  They don't appear to have a 110/220 switch on them, but I don't know if I can use converters/adapters to get them to work.

    Hi
My goodness you are making me work through my memory for this one.  That printer my be 5 or 6 years old now. I believe that you should be able to use your printer from an electric viewpoint.  However, you will also have to have your printer reset to accept European region cartridges.
    1. Electricity
I managed to find a work colleague who still has one of these printers and you should be OK as long as you check the power block (black box) that is on the power cable.  If you look at the specifications that are molded into the block it should say that it allows 100 - 220V.  If so, then you just need a standard power cable that goes from the wall plug socket into the power block.  If the power block says it only handles 100-120V then you will need to get a complete new power lead with a 100-220V power block.
    2. European region cartridges
Once you clear up your power issues you then have to get your printer reset so that it will accept european region cartridges.  For this you will need to call HP support.
If I remember correctly you will probably have to be in your destination european country before your printer can be reset because you may need the european supplies in order for the reset to work but maybe check with HP support before you leave the USA.
Here is a link to a document explaining what you need to do.
