Moving to France from North America - can I move my router

Hi,
Seems most of my computer equipment will be fine on the new voltages. Anyone know if my old Linksys router GHz will work with a simple wall converter plug?
Are there other network config issues I should consider? We're moving from Alberta to France, Paris specifically.
Thanks for any advice.
Dawn

Check the power adapter. If it's 100-240V you can use it. If not, you can buy a universal power adapter in an hardware store which delivers the same output voltage and enough ampere.
Please remember, that your router with american firmware can only use channels 1-11 on 2.4 GHz band. You are allowed to use 12 and 13 in Europe.
Also remember, that your old router may be too slow for a new, faster internet service, depending on how old the router is. Thus, you may get a 100 Mbit/s service and your router isn't able to deliver it that fast. In the end you may get a new router anyway...

  • Buying French or World music (itunes France) from North America through itu

    Hello,
I live in Canada and would like to buy French music (or UK or German music or Asian music) through itunes. If I connect to itunes store in Canada, none of the french songs I'm looking for shows up. I cannot get access to itunes France since they claim I don't have a credit card in France (isn't that a very lame excuse, pardon me but my canadian credit card is accepted anywhere around the world, why not on itunes France !!! Are they that special ?).
My beef is that people in Canada or USA should be able to buy music from anywhere around the world, not just in their own country, isn't that another lame implementation of itunes ?? Why should I limit myself to canadian music only ??
If I want to buy songs from Hong Kong, I should be allowed to do that on itunes as well.
If Itunes doesn't get this right, well many like me will flock to other services which will soon be ready to fill this void. Actually, to anyone who's listening out there, here's a perfect business opprtunity that itunes is stupid enough to leave wide open for others to exploit.
Do you guys at itunes have a valid reason to limit buyers to their local music selection instead of giving them access to a world wide selection instead ?
Hmm, waiting for a response ...

As I mentioned before, the official reason that I received from Apple was that my credit card wasn't accepted in th e local countries where I wanted to buy the songs.
What they mean is that you need a credit card issued in the country of the iTunes Music Store from which you want to purchase (or a gift certificate or prepaid card purchased in that country). That's how the iTMS (and most if not all of the other stores) verifies residence.
But as I said before, Napster is legit and I believe you can do cross border shopping through them ... That's what mp3.com would have you believe anyway ..
Nope. If you live in the US, you can only buy from the US Napster, and in Canada, you can only by from Napster Canada. That's why they have separate stores for each country. Try it and I think you'll see that I'm correct.

  • It is possible to convert an iMac from North America (60hz - 110V) to us it in Europe (50hz - 220V)?

It is possible to convert an iMac from North America (60hz - 110V) to us it in Europe (50hz - 220V)?

No conversion is necessary. Your iMac will run from 100-240V, all that is needed is a simple plug adapter that you can pick up at any electronics store or even at the airport.

  • IPod Nano bought from North America didn't work with PC in China

This sounds stupid, but I recently bought an iPod Nano (8G) from North America and sent it to my friend in China. However, my friend told me that the PC failed to recognize the iPod. What an embarrassment.
Is that possible? How to resolve? Thanks

First of all, get him/her to try another port on the computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time it's connected to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
Still no joy, see if any of these articles help.
Windows XP cannot detect an iPod.
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • Can I move only my iTunes movies, not my iTunes music, onto a flash drive? And, is there a program (apart from iTunes) that can play movies on MacBook Air?

I have a MacBook Air and I need to free up space...
    1) I have three series of a tv show on my itunes which are taking up loads of memory - see image - I want to move these movie files onto a Flash Drive. However I do not want to move my itunes Music onto the flash drive, only my Movies, and want to keep my music on my hard drive.
    Is this possible?
    2) I have managed to copy the movie files onto the flash drive, however when I tried to play one to check that they were loaded properly it didn't have a program that could run the file (they have copied over in a m4V format). Do the MacBook Air's not have a separate program other than itunes that can play movies? If so, is there a program I can get to solve this problem? I went onto the App Store to see if there was something I could download, but all the apps were for creating DVD's, not simply playing them.
    3) If 1. & 2. questions are solvable, will it then be safe to delete the movies from my itunes?
Thank you so much for any answers posted.
    Best,
    Eloise15.

If you can play the movies in iTunes, you should be able to open the movie files using Quicktime, which should already be on your system.  If you have already transferred the files to your flash drive, open the flash drive in Finder, and hold control when you click on the movie file (or right click if you have the enabled) and select Open With Quicktime Player.  This should play the movie directly from the flash drive.
If you want to set all .m4v files to open with Quicktime by just double clicking on the file, you can follow the steps here: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2573/os_x_how_to_change_default_application_to_op en_file_type/
    3) If 1. & 2. questions are solvable, will it then be safe to delete the movies from my itunes?
You can move the TV shows to your flash drive by dragging them from the iTunes window to your flash drive in Finder or the flash drive icon on the desktop.  When you are sure everything is transferred over to your external device, you can delete the movie from iTunes.  I recommend playing the videos from the flash drive first before deleting them in iTunes.
To delete the videos from iTunes, you can highlight them and press the delete key on your keyboard.  In the next prompt, you would want to move it to the trash so that it is deleted from your internal hard drive.
    I hope that helps!

  • After moving to spain from UK I can't get my phone to activate with my Spanish sim card

I currently live in Spain after moving from UK 3 months ago.  On first arriving in Spain i bought an orange PAYG sim card inserted it into my Blackberry and all worked fine. I Recently changed from Blackberry to iphone5 whilst back in UK, on returning to Spain I went to the orange shop to change my sim to a micro sim.
The guy in the shop used a press to reduce the size of my sim and told me to insert it as normal. On doing this the phone will not activate, the phone isn't locked to a specific network so I'm now without a phone. Any ideas?

    Dear all,
I bought my phone from an Apple store in Exeter so it is unlocked.
When I changed my sim in UK ( full size from Blackberry to micro for IPhone ) I had to register with Orange which involved a phone call then a 2 hour period with the phone off whilst it activated. In the Orange shop in Spain I was told I didn't need to do this.
I will visit the Apple shop in Alicante next week and see what they say if nobody can give me the answer.
I dont want to buy another sim if its unnecessary as I will lose my number and the credit on the account.
Thanks to all so far, keep them coming!

Just moved from Canada to Switzerland. Can I just plug in my Desktop and get started?? I've travelled with my laptop before so know that it is that easy!! Just not 100% sure about my desktop!!

You can, but the power outlet type may differ.  All Intel Macs have no trouble understanding current from 110 to 250V

  • Rented movie from iTunes but can't move it to my ipad

Just rented two movies through iTunes. Connected my iPad to my computer and went to move them to the iPad but get this error message when I hit "apply"
"movie name" was not copied to the iPad because it cannit be played on this iPad

The HD movie won't work, then. But assuming you're trying to move the SD movie separately, this is a long shot, but try restarting/resetting your iPad:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If that still doesn't work, and no one else here has a suggestion, go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store. If they don't have an answer, they might be willing to refund at least the price of the SD movie.
    Regards.

  • Can I move EA6500 router out of basement to 2nd floor of my house for better wireless range?

I am having issue with EA6500 wireless range from one end of house to other.  Currently, the EA6500 router is in the basement connected to my SB6141 cable modem.
Would it be possible to move EA6500 out of basement and to the 2nd floor of my home while keeping modem in the basement.
I was wondering if I could purchase a switch to place between cable modem and router which would allow me to place the router in closer proximity to my wireless devices.
I've already tried changing wireless channels and using inSSID but that has not resolved my problem.
    Please let me know.  Thanks.

It is possible to change the EA6500 router’s location from the basement to the 2nd floor. You need to have a long cable but it should not be 100 meters long since it will cause the connection to drop. It is also advisable to have a wireless AC adapter on our wireless devices/computers to optimize the wireless features of the EA6500 router.
For your Connected Home, you may use the 2.4 GHz network to connect your wireless devices to surf the Internet and email, share files and print.  The 5 GHz network is best for heavy applications including Voice over IP (VoIP) calls, online gaming, and streaming high-definition videos.

  • Can't move or copy files in Finder!

I installed the latest software update, something to do with Airport I think, and since then I am not able to move documents into sub folders, or copy items from a CD to the desktop or external drives.
My OS is up to date, I've repaired permissions, verified all disks including two external, I've ran MacJanitor, zapped PRAM, and after all that it seemed to be fixed, letting me move a file on my external HD to a subfolder on that same HD. I then tried to copy a file off an audio CD onto my HD and it wouldn't let me. I have done this many times before without any trouble, and this CD is not different to any other...
It almost seems like this is what stops any files being moved, as now once again I can't move any files at all. Frustrating!
Could this be a bug with the latest software update item??
    What should I try next?
    Thanks, in anticipation.

A Get Info on the volume in Finder says that I have Read & Write permissionsWell, of course, this only means you have these permissions on the top level of the volume.
The problem does sound as if you do not have Read permission on some parts of the volume. I think we'll need to resort to Terminal to find out a little more.
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window (don't press return yet):
ls -alNow type a space, then drag your problem volume into the Terminal window. You should now see something like
ls -al /Volumes/<nameof your volume>Now press return, and copy and paste all the output from the Terminal window to a post here.
