Moving to Germany with iPhone with Rogers (Canada)

Hello. I have an iPhone 4 bought from Rogers. I am planning on moving to Germany, is there any possible way that I can use my iPhone there?

If your iphone is unlocked, then yes.  If not, then no.
Contact Rogers and see if they offer this service and if you qualify.

  • Moving to Germany with the iPhone

    All,
I just purchased the iPhone and think it's spectacular. Now I found out that I may relocate to Germany in the near future (it's a business thing), and I'm worried that I won't be able to use my iPhone there... In case the phone is not SIM-locked (I think the SIM card can be exchanged), does anyone know what needs to be done in order to use the iPhone in Germany?
I heard T-Mobile won the exclusive marketing of the I-Phone there... Will I have to sign up to T-Mobile there? Or will I also be able to use Vodafone (my preferred mobile carrier in Germany)?
    Regards,
    Anja

    1) ATT requires a 2 year contract. I just upgraded mine from an existing contract (running for approx. one year) for the use of the iPhone and now wonder whether a move to a different country not will provide the grounds for early termination - without penalty.
When you activated your iPhone, you agreed to and began a new 2-yr contract with AT&T that was effective on the iPhone activation date. Moving to Germany should be grounds for AT&T to allow you out of your contract without being charged the $175 early contract termination fee but I don't know AT&T's policy in this regard. I worked for a large corporation for 17 years and when transferred, the company paid an additional one month's gross pay to take care of such things as having to pay an early contract termination fee or losing a deposit if renting a place to live, the same for a personal cell phone contract, any required deposits at the new location for living arrangements, utilities, etc.
    2) I read on CNN (and several techblogs) about iphonesimfree.com, who sell an application to unlock the iPhone and make it useable for any GSM system, with any carrier anywhere in the world. Nowhere is Apples or ATTs position available on this. Any thoughts on this as a solution to this sim-lock dilemma?
It isn't against the law to unlock a carrier locked phone but Apple nor AT&T is obligated by law to make the process easy or to unlock the phone for you and this will also void your warranty. But this won't matter anyway since you probably won't be able to have an iPhone purchased in the U.S. repaired or replaced under warranty anyway while in Germany or anyplace outside of the U.S.
The iPhone sold in Germany might be a 3G phone or have an additional feature, etc. that your current iPhone does not include which is why I would sell your iPhone here before leaving and purchase the iPhone sold in Germany when arriving there.

  • Moving to Germany with my IMac- Power Cord issues

    Hi,
Does anyone know how I can safely use my iMac G5 in Germany? I bought it in the U.S. but will be moving to Germany for 2 years. I would like to bring my computer with me but as far as I know, the line voltage of my computer cannot exceed the following:
     Line voltage: 100-120V AC
and Germany uses a 220 volt/50 hertz system. How should I deal with this? Can i just use a regular power converter?
    Thank you,
    heringji
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    G'day Jill,
You can find the instructions for replacing the built in power supply yourself at http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/imacg517inch_PowerSupply.pdf
These people will sell you one for $145 (the ALS PS also fits the "first generation" models), or replace it themselves for you for $195. (about the same price many Apple places charge for the part alone)
Expensive, I know, and you can get a 350 watt (about the size you need to relaibly run an iMac) "voltage converter" for significantly less, but if you go down the latter path make sure you get a good one.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • "No SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate" after updating to iOS 5. Living in Canada with Rogers service provider.

    Any solutions yet?
"No SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate" after updating to iOS 5.
Living in Canada with Rogers service provider.

Its an IMEI issue.  In my case, about a year ago, after originally purchasing my iP4 from AT&T store, I had a prox. sensor issue.  Went to the Apple Store, they replaced the phone.  Here is where it all stems from.  The IMEI of the new phone was never updated in AT&T/Carriers systems.  For iOS updates prior to iOS5, this was not an issue.  My phone did its iOS updates along the way with no probs.  However, when I updated to iOS5, the firmware did not match the IMEI with what AT&T/carrier had.  When I went to Apple Store for the issue about 3 days ago and was given a new phone....again....the new phones IMEI was never updated with AT&T/carrier.  I then again attempted the upgrade to iOS5 with the new phone and iOS5 bricked that one also.  Today, at the store, we tried 3 replacements with same outcome.
So, after 4 hours and 3 replacement phones with Apple Store Tech (BTW totally gobsmacked), we solved the issue.  Luckily, due to iPhone 4S launch, there was an AT&T guy there with a computer tied to the AT&T network to work along with us.  The issue is......once the IMEI's on carrier account and phone do not match, iOS5 shuts down the sim card reader within phone.....forever. How to reverse this?......this is a question Apple needs to come up with, because with my case, they have 5 "bricked" phones.
What solved the issue was to get a new phone with iOS4.3.5, new SIM from carrier/AT&T, have carrier/AT&T (in their system) change/match the IMEI to the new phone and activate new SIM.  Then, do iOS5 upgrade.
Simple and makes total sense..........however........there is an internal firmware (Apple Security??) issue that bricks the phone once IMEI's dont match.
I am now on iOS5.....no problems......so far.  Good luck to all others.

  • I bought an iPhone 5s at Tmobile and I'm moving to Germany, can I also use my iPhone 5s with the german Tmobile?

I need to know if I can use my american Tmobile iPhone 5s in Germany with the Tmobile company they have here. If I could possibly put in a top up card or something in and just use it because im going to be living here for 2 months for work.

    You're welcome.
I would advise against that for the reasons I provided.
Could I have my iPad 2 for the new one paying the difference between their values?
No. Sell the existing yourself and use the proceeds to purchase a new iPad.

  • Can I use my China iPhone 4S (MD242CH) in Canada with a Canada MicroSIM card

I live in China and have a China iPhone 4S Model MD242CH currently subscribed to China Mobile. I will be going on vacation in Canada and I want to be able to take my iPhine 4S with me and change out my China Mobile MicroSIM card for a Canadian carriers MicroSIM card (Rogers Wireless, Fido Solutions, Bell Mobility, Telus Mobility, ???). It would also be nice if the 3G (or 2.5G GPRS/EDGE) works. What about my iPhone 4S WiFi ???
Advise from anyone who HAS DONE THIS would be best but I will take subjective advise as well.
    Brian

If your phone is officialy unlocked, it will work just fine using any of those official iPhone carriers in Canada. WiFi is WiFi, doesn't have anything to do with what carrier you use.

  • Iphone 4 with Rogers

So, is it true that if your Iphone is defective. The store you purchase the phone from doesn't have to take the phone back? I purchased mine from Rogers Plus and I tried to return it under their return policy (15 days 30 minutes). Now, because the phone is defective I have to go through their tech support to get a replacement, which is a refurbished! How the heck is that fair? Shouldn't this be replaced with a brand new iphone if it's within the return period? AND they won't affect the phone back if I want to cancel my activation!

If you can't resolve an issue with the agent at the store then ask to speak with their store Manager. Failing that you can escalate to the store District Sales Manager via the store Manager. Failing that call Rogers Customer Care *611 from any Rogers cellphone (not the iPhone just purchased) or 1-888-ROGERS1 (764-3771) from any landline with in Canada to speak to a representative regarding the issue. Rogers iPhone 4 FAQ page the dealer must take back the hardware if a customer is cancelling the account under "Buyers Remorse" or exchanging hardware under "Buyers Preference" as long as he/she meets the eligibility. Quote from the FAQ page:
    http://www.rogers.com/web/content/iphone4-faq
"As with any device, our buyers’ remorse policy still applies. If you are not completely satisfied with your new iPhone 4 you may return or exchange the device within 15 days of purchase; providing that there are no more than 30 minutes of voice usage, and the device and all the packaging and contents are returned in like new condition. If you experience a problem with your iPhone, we will assist you in resolving the problem."
If though you are attempting to go through the manufacturer warranty option after 15 days or being over 30 minutes usage then it's a refurbished iPhone 4 under Apple's warranty. Based on the iPhone 4 was just launched there's a good chance you will get a new iPhone 4 but under Apple's iPhone warranty coverage they state providing a refurbished iPhone.

I am at Ramstein AB Germany.  My iphone screen was smashed badly on the flight to Germany this morning.  WHEN I access apple support for this subject it gives me 3 options call now, call me now or call me later.  As I am in Germany with no coverage and no working phone none of those options will work.  Can you get this e-mail to someone who can help.  My iphone serial # is C38xxxxxx. 1) I need to know where and how I can get a replacement somewhere nearby in Germany 2) If 1 is not an option I need to set up an appt to get a to get a new iphone at an apple store in Atlanta GA in the evening of 11 July.
Thank you very much, Phil Edelen

Thanks, my wife is the one serving I am retired and trying to follow her as much as I can.
I will schedule an appt for my next time stateside.  I have spent too much time on many Apple web sites trying to get an e-mail to communicate with anyone at Apple to no avail, only phone numbers. I guess if you are overseas with no international access you are out of luck communicating with them.  I did find one e-mail address but the reply was computer generated and provided useless links.
If anyone has any e-mail address for anyone at Apple I would appreciate it.
    Thanks again,
    Phil

Hey Guys I Travel to the States and I am from Germany. I want to buy an iPhone 4S 8GB white Version unlocked GSM. Can I use the iPhone in Germany with every SIM Card?

As long as you buy from an Apple retail Store (Apple owned ) an unlocked iPhone 4S it will work on GSM services worldwide
    from Apple.com
If you buy a SIM-free iPhone, you will need to purchase a GSM-compatible micro-SIM separately. When you travel internationally, you can use a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4s from a local GSM carrier.
The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.
However the warranty will NOT be valid outside the US .If you need warranty or post warranty service you will have to return the iPhone to the US in person ( cannot mail in to US )

I have iphone 4 with bill box evertything but i brought it from a person in germany with vodafone carrier but now its locked in india and i dont have that vodafone simcard and it is more than 2 years old so plzz help

FYI, many carriers can not unlock an iPhone if it is not active on their network. They probably don't recognize the IMEI because it's not registered to an account that's active on their network.

  • Operating iphone in germany with a german (Vodafone) sim card ?

hi there please let me know if i could operate the iphone in germany with a vodafone sim card

Unfortunately, that will not work. if a U.S. customer travels to Germany (like I did last year and will again next year) then they have to activate international calling, which is easy to do, and pay roaming charges. I believe when I took my Razr with me last year the roaming charge were $1.55 a minute (U.S.).
The question you asked has been asked many times before in the old Pre release iPhone forum. The way that Apple and ATT have tied activation to iTunes and the SIM card tied in with the firmware on the phone prevents other SIM cards from working right now.
It would probably be to your advantage to wait until the European release of the iPhone and see how they handle SIM issues there. European phone activation and use is a lot different then in the U.S, some would argue that it is better, and so what marketing techniques work here, may not apply in Germany or other countries.
Hope this helps answer your questions.

my text messages go to everyone except to my daughters. she has an iphone but with bell and mine is with rogers.  she receives them when she is at home or say at chapters/tim hortons where they have wifi, but if she is walking somewhere or at somewhere without wifi, it isn't working? i don't understand.  she has a text plan.  her phone is an iphone 4s  can anybody assist me if you know what the problem may be? thanks so much.

Have her go to Settings>Cellular and make sure Cellular Data is turned to On.  If she's having trouble with regular sms messages, check her carrier to be sure her messaging plan is properly provisioned.

  • I am in the military and will be moving to germany in a month. would the US bought iphone 5 work in germany?

i am in the military and will be moving to germany in a month. would the iphone 5 work in germany?

An unlocked GSM phone would work anywhere with any SIM card.  But, if the German iPhone 5 is th a1429-GSM only model, it will not work with AT&T nor T-Mobile's LTE frequencies here.  Similarly, the A1428 model sold for use with AT&T here may not work overseas as the LTE frequencies may be different then the two supported ones.
In terms of technology, 2 or 3 years is a looong time.  By the time you get back, the iPhone 5 will be ancient tech.  I would suggest you just get one in Germany so you know it will be fine over there.  When you come back in 2 or 3 years, sell it, donate it or whatever, and get something new that you again know will be fine for use here in the USA.
Plus that way, you could buy a contract subsidized German phone, and save on the initial cost of the phone.  If you buy from AT&T here, even if they will unlock it because of your service, what happens with the contract?  And if you buy an unlocked one (when they become available), ignoring the LTE compatability issues, you pay a lot more out of pocket for the phone.
No matter what you buy, it is going to be very, very behind the tech curve after 2 or 3 years (not to mention, it may well be needing a new battery, which might well cost more to replace then that old phone would be worth on the used market).
