Moving to India - Using my iPhone there.

I will be moving to India in June and am wondering how to use my iphone there without paying international charges. I will be in India for 2 months and then come back to the states for a month and then keep doing that over and over again. I need to make frequent calls in the states (elderly mom and kids) but will also need to use the phone in India. Can I get by using the same phone or will I need to live with two phones - one here and one in India? I don't want and can't afford international rates on my ATT phone plan.

So how do my children in the states call me while i'm in India. Will we be completely Skype based. I can see using an Indian phone and my I phone while in the states, but it is the International communication I am the most confused about.
It is very simple. Have your children make an account on skype on the computer. You can still make calls through skype while your phone is in airplane mode, as long as you have wi-fi on.
Also you can use your iphone in India but because you are going to use it internationally, you will or may need a international roaming plan, if you don't, they will charge you a lot of money. You may want to find out by calling AT&T about this one.

  • Traveling to the Philippines soon. How to use my iPhone ther?

I have a iPhone and an iPad.  I plan on visiting the Philippines next year.  Do I need a different charger than I have now, or will e chargers for both work there, without any difficulties?  .
Also, I have AT&T.  Should I bury a SIM card there or use the ones I have now?  Should I have the phone "unlocked" before I travel there?
My trip will be roughly 3 weeks there.
    Thank You!

Check to see what sort of power outlets they have in the Phillippines and if necessary take an appropriate adapter with you.  If your phone is locked and you want to use it in the Phillippines  with a local carrier then you will need to have it unlocked by your current carrier or pay for international roaming

  • I am heading to Europe and I would like to use my iPhone there

Is there a way to use a European carrier's sim card and swap it for the ATT sim?
    Thanks for the help

Unless you specifically purchased an unlocked iPhone directly from Apple within the last few weeks, no. The phone is locked to AT&T and they will not unlock it.

  • Moving to Germany with the iPhone

    All,
I just purchased the iPhone and think it's spectacular. Now I found out that I may relocate to Germany in the near future (it's a business thing), and I'm worried that I won't be able to use my iPhone there... In case the phone is not SIM-locked (I think the SIM card can be exchanged), does anyone know what needs to be done in order to use the iPhone in Germany?
I heard T-Mobile won the exclusive marketing of the I-Phone there... Will I have to sign up to T-Mobile there? Or will I also be able to use Vodafone (my preferred mobile carrier in Germany)?
    Regards,
    Anja

    1) ATT requires a 2 year contract. I just upgraded mine from an existing contract (running for approx. one year) for the use of the iPhone and now wonder whether a move to a different country not will provide the grounds for early termination - without penalty.
When you activated your iPhone, you agreed to and began a new 2-yr contract with AT&T that was effective on the iPhone activation date. Moving to Germany should be grounds for AT&T to allow you out of your contract without being charged the $175 early contract termination fee but I don't know AT&T's policy in this regard. I worked for a large corporation for 17 years and when transferred, the company paid an additional one month's gross pay to take care of such things as having to pay an early contract termination fee or losing a deposit if renting a place to live, the same for a personal cell phone contract, any required deposits at the new location for living arrangements, utilities, etc.
    2) I read on CNN (and several techblogs) about iphonesimfree.com, who sell an application to unlock the iPhone and make it useable for any GSM system, with any carrier anywhere in the world. Nowhere is Apples or ATTs position available on this. Any thoughts on this as a solution to this sim-lock dilemma?
It isn't against the law to unlock a carrier locked phone but Apple nor AT&T is obligated by law to make the process easy or to unlock the phone for you and this will also void your warranty. But this won't matter anyway since you probably won't be able to have an iPhone purchased in the U.S. repaired or replaced under warranty anyway while in Germany or anyplace outside of the U.S.
The iPhone sold in Germany might be a 3G phone or have an additional feature, etc. that your current iPhone does not include which is why I would sell your iPhone here before leaving and purchase the iPhone sold in Germany when arriving there.

  • Using my iPhone 3G in Italy - Any advice or info?

I will be traveling to Italy and am wondering about the best way to use my iPhone there w/o ending up with $1,000 of charges from AT&T after I return.
I have heard that if I keep it in Airport mode when I don't need data/phone, I can use apps like audio tours I can download from iTunes.
I don't plan to do much calling, maybe once every day or two to make reservations for trains or restaurants.
I would like to take pictures and upload them to FB each day, though. That might be expensive, no?
I'd also like to check email at least once or twice a day.
Any information you can share would be great.

This link may be helpful. You need to ensure that international roaming is enabled for your line/number by AT&T.

You can enable Airplane mode which disables all iPhone radios - phone, data, bluetooth, GPS, and wi-fi. With Airplane mode enabled, it is possible to turn on wi-fi access only. You can use this when there is an available wi-fi network that you want to access without worrying about receiving any calls or text, or data access via the cellular network.

i have new iphone 5s(locked) which is taken in San jose, Now i am moving to India for few days , how to use my phone over there

Contact your carrier and if your phone is locked then you need to use international roaming to be able to use your phone in India.

The warranty for the iPhone is not and has never been International.
Warranty and support are ONLY valid in the country of origin.  The only exception is the EU where the entire EU is treated as one country.
If the device will be used in India, buy it in India.
An unlocked iPhone will work on any supported GSM carrier world wide.  The LTE portion of a US purchased, unlocked iPhone is unlikely to work outside North America as it does not support the appropriate bands used in other countries.

  • I am moving from London to NYC for a year, will i be able to use my iPhone over there and insert a pay as you go sim?

I wondered if anyone can advise me on whether its possible to use my iPhone in NYC by getting a pay as you go sim in the US? Do companies offer pay as you go sims over there as i wont have a credit rating.
    Thanks!

The only supported GSM carrier in the US is AT&T. They will not permit the use of pre-paid SIM cards in the iPhone.
You can sign up for monthly post paid service with them and use it just fine (assuming your existing phone is legitimately unlocked).
You can get pre-paid service with T-Mobile or any number of other regional GSM carriers, but not all features of the phone may work properly (or at all).

  • Will my factory unlocked non contract t-mobile iphone 6 work in India if I use another sim there?

I am planning to buy the new iPhone 6 with the t-mobile non contract version which is factory unlocked. I will occasionally travel to India, so I will the Indian sim in India. I wanted to know if my Indian sim will work in this phone or not?

Not sure if your question was answered, but I just used a T-Mobile iPhone 6 in France with no problem.  T-mobile does not appear to have a lock on the phones.  In case this is relevant, I first turned on and set up the iPhone 6 in the US with the T-Mobile sim in it, but never intentionally "activated" anything with T-Mobile.  I just used the iPhone on Wifi for a couple of weeks in the US before returning to France.
Other than the "unlock" issue, iPhone 6 should work in India with any sim-based network.

  • I would like to know if there is such an app that allows my iPhone to act as a remote for my iPad ie if I'm recording something on my iPad I can use my iPhone to press record/play/pause/forward or rewind my iPad via my iPhone

As the King says, if your friends wifi router was relatively new, it likely has not been picked up by Apple's location based information database system and thus there is no location information associated with it.  So your iPad had no way of getting its location.
The wifi location databases are traditionally updated by wardriving - literally companies employ people to drive around sniffing out active wifi signals and associating an approximate location to it.  Some companies also have web sites to submit that information if owners wish to (Apple does not seem to have one though), and the various companies with wifi location databases buy and sell their information.  Bottom line is though, it can take weeks, months or sometimes even longer for a residential router to get picked up - depends on where you live (more rural, likely the longer time it takes).
When I moved from VA to NC it took up to 6 months for mine to reflect my new location (I checked it once the week I moved in, and then periodically thereafter, and it finally was getting it right after about 6 months) and I live in a pretty densley populated area (triangle NC).

  • I am moving to the Netherlands and want to be able to use my iPhone 4

    Hi There,
I am moving to the Netherlands in the next two months and I want to be able to use my iPhone 4 the same way I use it in the U.S. What would be the procedures that would enable me to do this? What phone carriers should I go through to allow this? I have unlimited data plan, texting and minutes. I know I'm supposed to get my iPhone unlocked, but if I do this what problems will I run into in doing so? Can I still get software updates? Will my voicemail still work, etc. etc. Thank you!

Sorry, but if your phone is locked to AT&T, there is no way to get your phone officially unlocked. AT&T will not unlock an iPhone for anyone for any reason. Sell it before you move & purchase a phone when you get there.

  • Is it possible to use an iphone 5s with contract(verizon) to use it in india after unlocking

is it possible to use an iphone 5s with contract(verizon) to use it in india after unlocking

The 5s claims it has more LTE bands than ever. Which is does if you read the tech specs on it. If I was going to go there, I would do some research. If you plan on sliding in a sim card from a german carrier, what German carrier and what LTE bands do they use? Thats what I would do.
There is a significant amount of LTE bands added on the Iphone 5s compared to the 5 yes. Will it work? It might depending on what carrier you plan to use like I said. I can't answer that sorry.

  • Can i use my  iphone of at&t which is bought from usa in india?

can i use my  iphone of at&t which is bought from usa in india?

Nope. All AT&T iPhones are locked to AT&T & there is no way to get them officially unlocked, as AT&T will not unlock an iPhone for anyone for any reason. You could only use it in India while roaming with AT&T-cost a small fortune.
