Moving to Mac from PC, need to buy everything again ?

I noticed that in my download list there are only Windows downloads, and I'm moving from pc to mac. Do I need to buy everything again or.. ??
I have Production Suite CS5.5 and Photoshop Lightroom.
Thanks

Um, I was hoping someone from the Store team would have answered. What you need to do is call Customer Service, and ask them to process the OS change. You will need to deactivate the serial numbers, uninstall the software, and send them a certificate of destruction for the Windows versions, and they should be able to provide you with keys for Mac.

  • Thinking of moving to Mac from PC--need iPhoto help

    Hi All,
I'm thinking about getting my wife a Mac to replace her PC to get a better computing experience. She's not very computer-literate, and the frequent Windows lockups and other problems are causing much frustration.
She mainly works with digital photos, creating slide shows for family members to view on their macs, pcs, and tv sets. She currently uses Photoshop Elements 5 for WIndows for her work. It's my understanding that there are some differences between PSE5 for Windows and PSE6 for the Max. The Windows version has Organizer, which is the component that allows you to organize photos (tagging, etc) and create slide shows. The Mac version uses something called Bridge.
My wife spends most her time creating albums, slide shows, printing pictures and the like, but she only does light editing. I'm thinking that she may be better off with something iPhoto than with Elements. One issue we have with PSE5 is that it creates photo cds, not true dvds, and the quality of slide shows played on a tv set isn't very good. Another issue concerns how we'd do the conversion. I guess we'd lose the slide shows we've already created, but can we preserve the photo takes?
I'm really flying blind here, having never worked with a mac or iphoto. Any help or advice from this community would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks much,
    David

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't use Bridge and iPhoto together. Metadata added via bridge will cause problems with iPhoto. To use Photoshop or PSE with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • I purchased Numbers and Pages for I-Pad, do I need to buy them again for my I-Mac?

I purchased Numbers and Pages for my I-Pad 2; if want them on my I-Mac do I need to buy them again?

You will have to purchase iWork (or the individual apps) for your Mac.  The apps you purchased for the iPad are only for iOS.

  • If I bought a new mac, but have match on my old pc, do I need to buy it again?

Bought a new mac and on my old pc i bought match.
But on my new mac it says i dont have match, do i need to buy it again?

You will just need to sign in to the match service under the store section at the top tool bar. You might need to authorize your apple id as well to work with the new computer.
But the service can be transferred from authorized computer to authorized computer no problem.

Anything you ever bought from the Mac App Store should be available for Re-download on your Purchases page:

  • If i buy a game or app from the itunes and a new version of that game or app comes out do i need to buy it again

if i buy a game or app from the itunes and a new version of that game or app comes out do i need to buy it again

It depends on how the developer chooses to release the new version. If they release it only as an update to the existing app in the iTunes Store then no, you won't have to buy it again. If they release it as a new app - usually they'll change the name slightly - then you will have to buy it again.

  • If i buy iwork but then get a new computer will i need to buy it again

i am looking into buying iwork however my macbook is three years old now and i will probably get a new one before the end of the year. would i need to buy iwork again to install it on my new computer?

If you have bought iWork on a DVD you can install from the DVD and do the updates wthout additional charge.
If you have bought iWork through Mac AppStore you can install from Mac AppStore again without additional charg if you use the same Apple ID as when you bought it.
If you have the downloaded iwork from Apple Store and a serial number you have to have the iWork.dmg on a stick and also have the serial number handy when installing on the new computer. Otherwise you have to buy the applications again from the AppStore. N.B. Apple store and appStore isn't the same store.

  • Do I need to buy Pages again for my new ipad 2?

I have Pages on my Macbook Pro. Do I need to buy it again for my new ipad 2? I can't seem to find a way of accessing it from the ipad.

Yes, you will need to buy the app version from the app store if you want to use it on the iPad - the version on your Mac (OS X) is not compatible with the iPad (iOS), they are different operating systems

The license is not transferable across different platforms.

  • I but garage band w my iPad can i also use with my laptop, or i need to buy it again?

i but garage band w my iPad can i also use with my laptop, or i need to buy it again?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The iPad and the Mac use different operating systems and different App Stores (App Store in the iPad, and Mac App Store in the Mac). In this case, you have to purchase GarageBand for your Mac in the Mac App Store, because the iPad version isn't compatible with any Mac. However, if you have another iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, you can install GarageBand for free on those devices. The same for Macs if you purchase GarageBand for your Mac

  • If purchase iWork  for mini mac do i need to purchase iWork again for iPad and iphonee

if purchase iWork  for mini mac do i need to purchase iWork again for iPad and iphonee

Yes. Mac mini runs OS X, iPad and iPhone run iOS - different operating systems
that require different versions of Pages, Numbers, & Keynote to run. Like
the iOS version, once you purchase the version for your Mac mini, you may install
it on as many OS X desktops/laptops/minis that you own.
