Moving to the UK with iPhone 3G

I live in the US and am moving to the UK in January. I have a US-purchased iPhone 3G and want to know whether I can switch it over to a UK carrier after I move. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Thanks Julian. I presume there would be no problem with bringing my iPhone to the UK and using it over Wifi as if it were an iPod Touch. Correct?
You can certainly do that and also make sure you turn off the Data Roaming to avoiod inadvertently getting hit by some unwelcome large bills.

My wife and i have an iPhone 5 6.1.2 firmware.. We both are having horrible wifi signals.  We have done everything we can.. What update will fix this? I get full bars on my iPad 2 through my whole house.. Be standing right beside the router with iPhones and it cuts in and out.. Drops from 3 wifi bars to 1

I am having the same problem with brand new Ipad Mini at my house.
It connects to the WiFi fine - but will not pull an IP address in DHCP mode, or if I set all the IP info statically - it still will not get any network access.
This doesn't look like a WiFi issue, as it does connect and is seen by the WiFi Access Point.  All the normal WiFi fix stuff doesn't help.
    - Using a Dlink DAP-2553 which is less than 2 months old.
Other devices connect fine, including Ipad 2.
This same Mini worked fine at another house and also connected to a mobile hotspot fine....so seems to be some weird IP issue with maybe this Access Point or maybe the older Router that I have (older Netgear)?
I am actually a network engineer and still have not been able to find a solution.  Both the Ipad Mini and the Dlink WAP have the latest firmware loaded.
Wondering if anyone has found a solution to this problem.

  • If I'm connected in wifi with my Macbook, can I share the internet with Iphone? Thanks

If I'm connected in wifi with my Macbook, can I share the internet with Iphone? Thanks

If you are asking about the Internet Sharing feature on the Mac, the answer would be that this option is not available for normal wireless, but it might work for BlueTooth.  Might be worth a try that way.
However, if the Mac had an Ethernet Internet connection, then you could create your own "private" wireless network to allow wireless devices to connect.

  • HT201328 Is this the same with iphone 5?

Is this the same with iphone 5?

Is what the same? The procedure for unlocking from a cell carrier? If that's what you mean, the procedure has been the same since the iPhone was first released and still applies to the iPhone 5.

iCloud doesn't syncronize the contacts with iPhone.

    Hey there keope5,
Depending on where you are editing the Contacts, the troubleshooting to be done can vary. If you are updating them at www.icloud.com or another device/computer and the edits arent being reflected on your iOS device, use the iOS troubleshooting in the following article on your phone:
    Get help using iCloud Contacts
If you are using another iOS device, or a computer and the edits do NOT reflect at www.icloud.com, use the appropriate section for that device instead.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • "The message could not be moved to the mailbox Archive" - iPhone 6

I have an iPhone 6 using the standard email app for my work (we use gmail apps), now using the latest iOS 8.1
When I try to swipe to Archive, it doesn't work and says: "Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Archive"
If I switch to 'Delete' instead of 'Archive' it deletes it, but I want to archive. It used to work, yet even before I upgraded my phone and iOS, it's started happening a month or so ago.
I used to never have this issue but it's relatively new. I've tried deleting and reinstalling my mail account and nothing works.
    Help please.
    Thanks

Is it possible to display iphone info such as notifications ect on the nano via a syncing app.

There is not.  Apps are only compatible with iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.  Sorry.

  • Computer crashed- need to sync the computer with iphone

my computer crashed and i have to erase and reinstall the os. However, this computer was synched with my iphone. How do i get itunes to sync with my iphone (just the contacts and the browser bookmarks most importantly). Basically- just to be clear, after I reinstall the OS- there will be NO contacts or calendar events- I just want the iphone info to to replace the empty info on the computer.
I'm just nervous that the iphone contacts/calandars will get erased. Is there a sure-fire method to this?
    thanks.

I plugged in the phone and basically it was a piece of cake. I basically "merged" the info from the phone with the empty computer info. Itunes prompts you with this after clicking merge contacts/calandars/bookmarks in itunes.I knew it had to be easy since this would be something you'd go through if you bought a new computer. It was scary for sure but all is well.

  • Keyboard problems out of the box with iPhone 3g

My iPhone 3g is showing strange keyboard behavior, typically starts when launching the SMS app.
The "P" and Backspace keys, the keys on the rightmost part of the touch area, are non-responsive. The issue will correct itself after 15 mins or so, but it's become very annoying.
I've made sure I'm not touching any other part of the screen as a possible cause. Showed it to and had three other iPhone users see what I see and they all agree it seems like a bug, just to confirm it's not me.
Took it to the Apple Store and of course the iPhone behaves when showing it to the Genius.
Anyone else experienced keyboard problems with 2.0 firmware?

Well, I took my 16GB iPhone 3g (white) back to the Apple Store today and the Genius looked it over -- said that's the first keyboard problem he's seen come in and mentioned that it was strange the "dead zone" on the touch screen was vertical since, according to him, most "dead zones" tend to be horizontal areas. He said the touch screen matrix is laid out in three horizontal bands on the screens.
Bottom line: he gave me a new working iPhone 3g.
He did mention that all returned iPhone 3g's are being sent directly back to the iPhone 3g engineering team for full "autopsies", not just sent back to factory for refurb. He said they want to fully diagnose and understand what defects are out there so as to solve the root cause moving forward.

  • Moving from T-Mobile with iPhone trade in ?

Is anyone else moving from T-Mobile to Verizon and making use of the trade-in program to get an iPhone 6 ? If so, what has been your experience with Verizon so far ?

I don't work for T-Mobile or Apple, so I can't say for certain, but T-Mobile has said that they expect to finally get the iPhone this fall, and if that happens, then you will be able to use their 3G/4G network.
There are actually now a number of smaller, prepaid carriers available for the iPhone. Virgin Mobile is just one of them, and they have a rather affordable plan.

  • Has anyone seen the quirk with iphones, yahoomail and outlook?

Here's the situation - and not really documented that I can find - I am interested in anyone's solution and if it spills over to apple computers with outlook as well.. I have a friend with a Dell desktop, Outlook 2007, and an iphone. She has att.net as a provider and uses their yahoomail. She has one primary and two secondary email addresses with att.net. She was getting repeated internet explorer errors (IE would close and reopne) and her Outlook client would indicate "communication error". Previously I noted - when installing her new PC and importing her pst file that we could not have her iphone on if we wanted to delete anything in outlook. That was maybe 8 months ago.. so when the errors weren't going away, we narrowed the issue down to the iphone being connected to email at the same time outlook was syncing - IE would crash, and outlook would kick out errors for the primary account. I am only guessing but I am thinking that for pop access, with att.net at least, one can only be accessing the user db once at any time, there perhaps is a file lock.. We turn off the iphone, no issue. Turn back on- and connected to email - issue... Thoughts? Experiences? Thank you in advance.. spit

    Steve,
I think your post #11 was being sarcastic, but you left a little wiggle room for it not to be. With the sarcastic interpretation, I must add my thoughts:
Here is the link to the Adobe bug report form
. It is important that users who discover bugs with reproducible steps file them - otherwise they don't stand a chance of ever getting fixed. Steven Gotz's advice was sound in this regard.
As to the discussion of workarounds - since this is a User-to-User forum, the best that we as a community can do is help each other out with workarounds, since none of us here have the power to actually fix anything.
The important thing to glean from SG's post is the definite need to file a bug report.

  • WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE UK WITH IPHONE COST IN UK - US CAME OUT BETTER.

From BBC Article Today from their Web Site... IS IT A BETTER DEAL.....
UK iPhone users get better deals
The iPhone was launched last summer
Better deals for UK users of Apple's iPhone are being launched as operator O2 overhauls tariffs less than three months after the mobile hit the stores.
The lowest £35 monthly tariff is to offer about three times as many texts and minutes, while the current £55 deal will be cut to £45 from Friday.
O2 is also introducing a £75 deal, with 3,000 minutes and 500 text messages.
Apple slashed the US price two months after the iPhone's launch, sparking rumours of slowing sales.
But the manufacturer later announced that it had sold one million iPhones ahead of its target date of the end of September. The phone had gone on sale in July.
UK customers will be switched automatically to the new deals by mid-March.
    Fast-selling
Those on the £35 deal will see their allowances increase from 200 minutes and 200 text messages, to 600 minutes and 500 texts.
Users paying £55 a month will enjoy a £10 cut on a tariff offering 1,200 minutes and 500 texts.
Sally Cowdry, O2 UK marketing director, said: "The iPhone is already our fastest ever selling device and this added value will allow us to appeal to an even greater segment of the market - it is an unbeatable proposition."
Contracts for existing customers are to continue for their 18-month term, but there will be no compensation for the previous period offering fewer minutes and texts.
Apple compensated US owners with $100 (£50) vouchers after cutting $200 (£100) off the price of the eight-gigabyte version of the iPhone.

This is OLD news: article was posted on Jan. 30, and there are at least two threads already on it.
If your question is is it a better deal for UK iPhone users, then clearly it is.
What is your point? Are you comparing AT&T's package with that of 02, or the price of the handset; if the latter, then after taking into account sales tax and shipping, there isn't much in the difference, as far as I can see.

  • Surprising the family with iphones for Christmas

I am looking for suggestions on a creative way to surprise my 3 teenagers with new iphone 4s for Christmas? Any good ideas out there?

One possibility would be iPhone gift cards. While perhaps not as impressive as wrapping up an actual iPhone, it might be less headache than to try to purchase and pre-activate an iPhone, and may be less expensive than purchasing iPhones without contract for activation later (the carriers usually subsidize the purchase when you sign the contract at the time you purchase the phone).
Others here may have additional suggestions.
    Regards.
