Moving to the USA - With a UK iMac

Hey everyone
I have searched for the answer to this with no such luck in finding an answer.
Im moving to Orlando, Florida in August and am taking my iMac with me (Obviously). I am going to need some sort of converter for the power and although apple do the travel kit and you can buy all manor of plug converters in hardware stores - i want to know im buying a high quality, reliable converter that will handle power surge's and things along those lines.
So, any ideas? Has anyone bought a iMac in the US for use in the UK and found a good product for the conversion?
Many Thanks

  • Moving to the USA from the UK with an unlocked iPhone - what options?

I currently have a UK iPhone 3GS on O2. The phone has been unlocked legitimately by O2 (i.e. Not jail broken). I am now relocating to the USA with my employer and want to obviously take and use my iPhone.
Since my phone is unlocked to any network I'm hoping I will be able to buy a 3G sim card from any provider (preferably T-Mobile) when I get to the USA and this should work when I put it in the iPhone and change the relevant settings - like apn.
If anyone has any experience of doing this or a link to some advice it'd be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks for helping!

Ok, one of my problems is that when I arrive it will take me a few weeks to get a social security number and only t-mobile will give me a sim without a ssn - but edge for a few weeks will be better than no iPhone.
Unless someone out there can suggest an alternative?

  • I have a iPad and I am moving to the USA!

I have a iPad and I am moving to the USA! How can I get my iPad to get to the usa version so it's dollars and the American apps! Or do I need to buy one there? Because I went there on holiday and had my iPod but it was still in the English version and had pounds and not dollars, and also I wanted the app pandora but I could not find it while I was there. please help really don't want to restart my iPad! Thanks

When you are in the US update your billing address on your account to be your US address (or create a new account with your US billing address) and the store's should then show the US and prices will be in dollars. Changing country on an account : Change the country of your iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, and Mac App Store account - Apple Support
Before you move there make sure that you have everything downloaded from the UK store (I'm assuming that you are here in the UK as you say pounds), and/or have copies of them in your computer's iTunes library or backup of your downloads/library, as whilst you are in the US you can only use the US store (you have to be in a country to use its store, including redownloading).

An iOS device can only be synced with one iTunes library.

  • I am moving to the USA I have a 3 pin plug on my 85 w charger

    Hi,
I'm moving to the US from Pakistan (our power is 220 volts like Europe). My charger has a 3 pin plug . Will the 3 pin work in America or do I need to get a converter plug? I also have a small two-pin plug lying around but I can't remember if this came with my new macbook pro or my previous macbook. It's just a plug- doesn't have a wire or anything - it does fit directly onto the magsafe power adapter but I don't want to use it if there might be a voltage issue when I get to the US. Is there any way I can try it out there safely?
my MagSafe specs:  frequency 50-60 Hz, single phase
    line voltage 100-240
    output voltage
    16.5 V DC, 3.65 A

The power adapter places one-half of the line voltage on the computer chassis/case.  In Pakistan, and much of the world, the AC input line voltage is over 200VAC, and the voltage sensation can be annoying.  In the US, the AC input line voltage is 120VAC, and only 60VAC is placed on the case.  Very few people can sense that voltage level and, even without a grounded 3-prong AC plug, you probably won't feel anything.

  • Can I use an iPad 2 3G bought in the USA with a different phone carrier in my home country?

I intend to buy an iPad 2 3G  in the USA and bring it back to my home country (Chile) but I'm not sure if the broadband connection will work here with a phone carrier different from AT&T or Verizon. If somebody knows the answer please let me know as soon as possible as I have to buy the iPad this week.
    Thanks in advance.

The ATT iPad model uses the GSM technology (VZ uses CDMA, which is used in very few places outside the US). Get the ATT iPad, you can plop in your local microSIM card, the iPad is not locked to ATT.

  • Moving to the UK with iPhone 3G

I live in the US and am moving to the UK in January. I have a US-purchased iPhone 3G and want to know whether I can switch it over to a UK carrier after I move. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Thanks Julian. I presume there would be no problem with bringing my iPhone to the UK and using it over Wifi as if it were an iPod Touch. Correct?
You can certainly do that and also make sure you turn off the Data Roaming to avoiod inadvertently getting hit by some unwelcome large bills.

  • What is the problem with my desktop imac, that ical has frequent pop ups that say I am not connected to the internet, gives me an option of going offline.

What is the problem with my imac, that ical has frequent pop ups that indicate I am not connected to the server. Gives me an option of going offline. This seems to have started when I began using icloud with all of my devices.

I discovered a simple work-around that is successful (at this point in time anyways) on my IMAC/Maverick when sending attachments (not inline or embedded) to PC users.
There are several threads in here on why attachments embed in mac mail when sending to PCs, and I have had similar issues. Not sure where the fault lies, but other than purchasing an additional program to make mac mail work as other mail programs work when it comes to attachments, I found no real solution that worked for my business PC folks. I did all the right things - sent my attachments in mac mail "windows friendly,"  "plain text," and "attachments at the end" and still got complaints when sending to my pc workmates using Outlook.  I tried another suggestion I found here - zipping the files and sending the zipped file, but my workmates did not like that either and still asked why?
By trial and error I discovered that when I attach any pdf to the email as well as the questionable jpgs, the attachments arrive in their PC inbox as attachments that can be used as needed. I don't know why this works, but it has made sending attachments a happier task for my business group.
I would be interested to see if this works for others.

I bought an Aspple TV at an Apple store in the USA  (110 v) and now am in Switzerland (220v) ans so far afraid to plug it in to the 220 socket.  Will it work okay without an external 220 v converter?

yeah and the connector in the appletv is std also used by my ps2 and old cdplayer so you need just get a new cable  then you don't need to use a plug converter

  • Is it possible for me to purchase UK Itunes store items when in the USA with a USA itunes account?

i'm trying to purchase an item from the iTunes store that is only in the UK iTunes store.  Is there anyway possible for me to purchase something from the UK iTunes store while my account is attached to the USA store?

    No.
You can purchase ONLY from the itunes store of your country of residence AND ONLY while inside the borders of that country.
    Sorry.

  • I have an iphone and just moved to the USA from England. Now, when I get a text from an English friend that's programmed into my phone already, it will notify me with a text from "04499929292" (not the contact) w/ a blank message.

So when I get a message from a friend, just the number will pop up, not the name of the contact. And when I click on said notification, it takes me to an empty message. I can go back, open my messages again, and see the real message, but this is sort of a pain. And I've tried the basic things I can think of - I've tried adding +44 to the contact name and the exact same thing happens... I've tried adding just 0 before the number (like I did when I was in England), and nothing happens. I've also tried turning my phone off and on, and I have the same issue. Can anybody help with this? It's just a minor annoyance but I'd like to have my contact names in my text messages, not just numbers - then it takes me a while to figure out who they are!
    Thanks
    -H

That number is for an apple server in the UK that is used for iMessage activation.  A hidden SMS is snet to that number when you turn iMessage on and is used to verify your phone number.  I suggest you turn iMessage off.  In settings/phone turn on dial assist.  Check with your carrier to see if you can send an international SMS as you end that possibility to activate iMessage.  Rest your phone (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).) then turn iMessage back on.

  • How to order a Macbook Pro in the USA with international english keyboard?

Does anybody know how can I order on the US Apple Online Store a new (2011) Macbook Pro with international English keyboard?
I don't see any possibility for that on the online store's webpage. I tried to contact an expert with the online chat support, but the link does not appears for me.
Thanks for your help in advance!

No. The US store does not provide anything but US or Spanish (I think) keyboards. You have to order from the UK store to get an English keyboard.
The current options available online are U.S. English, Western Spanish, French or Japanese keyboards. You might try calling 1-800-MYAPPLE to speak to someone. It's possible you might be able to get something else as a BTO option.

  • Can't get on the internet with my new Imac.

My new Imac arrived yesterday. It has Tiger installed and a Leopard disk in the box. I had already downloaded my usb broadband modem's drivers for Tiger 10.4.5 from my Isp and thought it would be a simple matter to install them. No chance! They won't work. It's running Tiger 10.4.10. The modem doesn't sync up and the computer says it doesn't exist. Then I had the bright idea of upgrading to Leopard and using Boot Camp to install Windows XP. Big mistake! I've only got an ancient XP upgrade disk and you need a full SP2 one. But of course I didn't find that out untill I'd put the disk in the superdrive. So now it's stuck in there. Every time I switch the computer on it just boots into the windows setup. Pressing F3 just reboots it into Windows setup. Does anybody know how I can get that cd out of my drive? And how do I get on the internet? My usb modem and it's driver works fine on an old powerbook running Panther.

    Hello again Nevertheless,
Probably! - Possibly! Almost certainly! Hmmm...
Belkin equipment has caused more problems than it had solved ( in my experience only )
Netgear equipment has solved all the problems I have, so far, encountered.

It's easy. It works and I DONT work for them.
    Regards once more.
